I'm 99% sure I have ADD, but I haven't been diagnosed. As a child I struggled so much in school and would often daydream whilst a teacher was talking and telling us what to do during the lesson. When I would snap out of it everyone was already working and I wouldn't have a clue what I was supposed to do. I was always getting I trouble with the teacher because of this. I would always try to focus on what a teacher was saying as they spoke, but after a few minutes I was in dream land again and the cycle continued. I was bullied a lot because the students were always seeing me in trouble with the teacher. When l left school I slipped into extreme anxiety and depression, I was in a very low place. I fought my way out of that and am much better. My ADD seems to be non existent these days. I'm engaged, have recently been promoted in my job and trying for a kid. Life is good. This video is interesting though as I do play the violin and paint a lot of pictures which people say I'm good at.

ADD doesn't exist, clinically speaking, not since the mid 70's since they decided ADD is a redundant term and is just ADHD.

    • @bigboss-wr5hb
      @bigboss-wr5hb 7 лет назад +32

+christian almli Even according to your own comment ADD does exist, only under a different name. The only reason people still claim to have ADD is because it better describes them and is generally more explanatory, straightforward and easy to use than "the inattentive subtype of ADHD" (there's also the stereotypical view of the hyperactive ADHD kid which evidently doesn't apply to people with ADD), nobody here's claiming to be a doctor and the video explained that ADD isn't used anymore, we're not fucking idiots man

Joshy Savage Yup, it's (I believe) the best modern music for people with ADD. A lot of people can't get into it because of the vocals, but if you can and you have ADD you will be healthily stimulated by the fast and intense percussion, the layering of melodies that two guitarists in a good band pull off along with INTERESTING bass parts (unlike most modern music where the bass just throbs on the same counts over and over again. In my opinion, Between the Buried and Me was some of the most stimulating metal out there for people like us. If you've never heard of them, start with the alum "Colors".
We need a new musical movement that ditches this obsession with repetition, basic chord progressions and generic vocals. A lot of classical music composers had cognitions similar to ours and they created masterpieces. We've regressed to the bland and the repetitive.

I have had ADHD all my life (now78). Yes it affected me in school at a young age. Could not concentrate when reading books. They did not give these tests in those days, unless someone was smart enough to ask for one? But I am very healthy, play very competitive golf 9 hdcp I was a 3 hdcp when I was 30- 40. Boat Captain since 1985. Doing quite well now. You just have to live a bit different life. No-one is perfect, but I am way ahead of a lot of people. Anyway, if you are lucky you will live a long and happy life, just go with the flow, exercise and eat healthy.

I have ADD, and it aggravates me how little information there is about it. I do not have any hyperactivity whatsoever. I just lost my job the other day specifically because I have distraction issues. My supervisor told me "you're just not getting it" and "you're unmotivated" even though I had informed her several times of my disability. Its outrageous...like telling someone who is paralyzed that they don't need a wheelchair and just need to try harder to stand up.

I have strong ADD. I've never really understood what this meant. I always just assumed it meant that I has trouble paying attention, which is what my parents told me. Im now 21 and am extremely insecure. I am still insecure about little things people would mention in a joking way about my appearance or intelligence. this led me to be unsuccessful i high school with my grades and with my social abilities. I realize now that someone with ADD is just affected internally by positive feedback as they are with negative feedback. So I try and surround myself with positive and uplifting people. For anyone else out there that has similar stuggles, just know that you are a beautiful creature and have so much to live for. Ignore the hate , because life is too short to let it consume you. I usually learn dances quicker then normal people because I love doing it and I’m really focused on it as if I didn’t have ADD at all, which is a little weird when I think about it😂 but everything else I can’t focus on like when the teacher at school if talking or if I’m at home doing homework I’m always multitasking then get tired and quit my homework and never end up doing it.

When I'm studying I can't focus and remember things so I either have to reread sentences because I was reading without paying attention, or because I can't retell anything except for the last word. Sometimes when i try studying something and I can't understand it I just want to cry and I feel so stupid. Even if I try to pay attention in class I still don't really get what teachers study, especially maths. Is this normal?

I have that aswell but i find once i understand something iv got it dow pat. But yeah you might actually be dyslexic. I was diagnosed with add and dyslexia. Talk about being a trip. But the truth is you can study you just cant study by reading you need to write things down or take a test. I found i retain info better when i explain it to someone else you'll figure things out as you teach someone else

I haven't been diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I have it (ADD, no H). It feels like having fog in your mind 24/7 that makes you forget things and ignore people half way in their sentences. I'm lucky though, when I was in highschool all subjects were interesting to me, EXCEPT maths and I suffered greatly for it. My attention sucked in that class so much that I failed 2 math grades... I'm also purposefully avoiding math courses for when I go back to college, because I know I'll fail them...

Ayoo facts, it is the same for me but for my add experience, the only way I would feel like I was smart or just normal in a math class if the math teacher in some sort of way made it were it was engaging in a sense of the teacher adding or combing it with an activity not to big or small or just simply having an more positive approach teaching the lesson. And definitely the other subjects were never a lost interest for me especially the science subjects even if I didn't pass, understood, if I started to daydream it is like I never lost the interest or got bored now the history subject it Barry allot, during my middle school years history class was absolutely my most hated class in fact I slept a lot in those class but in my highschool years history class became a favorite and it majorly dependent on the teacher who was teaching.

I personally think meds just amplify it.(Or at least in my case.) I started out with meds in kindergarten(I'm 10 going into 6thGrd.) because my teacher check and saw that I wasn't on med and the school said meds on no enrollment. I showed some symptoms but at a low level then I got on my ADHD meds and they spiked. I've been on more meds the I have fingers and toes. Currently on two that "work".

overdiagnosing and underdiagnosing on adhd excist simulatenously. too many kids are given pills like candy, too many adults underdiagnosed that are sittinh in jails etc

    • @ThePhantazmya
      @ThePhantazmya 4 года назад

@@LiSa-fc5sp It's easy to see the patterns in children because they are locked in school all day under the direct supervision of one or a handful of teachers but some people are overzealous and see the symptoms everywhere or don't really understand the nuances of the behaviors. Adults are much harder because there is no one looking out for you but yourself. Your boss isn't going to come to you and ask you to get tested; if the behavior is a problem they will just fire you. On top of that there is this emphasis on childhood behavior as though the condition will just disappear when you get older, but the reality is that if you have ADHD as a kid, you'll have it as an adult. Either you learn to compensate or your life becomes a mess because there is no one guiding you anymore.

I was diagnosed with ADHD/ADD when I was 16 because one support teacher noticed my symptoms. From when I was diagnosed, I started geting help for it, therapy and medical. I was a C- average student with a few failed classes on my record, after treatment and help, I was in my last year of high school and was getting almost A's and at least B+'s (as my average). I remember when the concept of me was first associated with this mysterious thing they call ADHD back in fourth grade at about the age of nine. I had just taken the bus to school (and being someone with ADHD, I wasn't exactly thrilled to be at school in the first place) and as I entered the classroom, I noticed my parents sitting at the back of the room. I was surprised and stricken with a sudden surge of shame that quickly turned to anger as I noticed them talking to some old, uncannily tranquil man that I had never seen before in my life. Now, to be frank, it feels weird to have these people who birthed you who are supposed to fill the caretaker role in your life but have unconsciously filled the child role throughout your childhood try to put you on medications. At first you just feel shocked. Then you start to feel violated. Then, after that, you just feel kind of helpless and you passively accept their "offer" of meds in the hopes that it will get them off of your back. That way you can avoid the feelings of being responsible for them when they become frightened at the possibility that they could be wrong to have considered the option of meds.

I found out way later in life that my mom got me tested for disorders when I was in elementary school, I actually didn’t find out I had ADD until highschool when I came across some paper work that the school had to have for my 504 plan and it listed on there that I was diagnosed with ADD, I couldn’t even describe how I felt when I found that out so naturally I went and asked her why does it say that, and she told me.. everything started making wayyy more sense after that. There was a reason as to why I was always struggling. It’s good to know these things so you can try to work around it and get help with the struggles that ADD can bring you

  • @JennhasADHD

What needs to be included is that ADD and ADHD are life time things, yea symptoms are not as strong as when you are a child, but they still severely impact your life as an adult. You are only a child for a short amount of time. There is simply not enough information out there on being an ADHD adult. It is not something you "grow out of".....

Miranda Irene Wow, I feel the same about everything you said up until the diagnosis part (I have ADD myself, and didn't discover I had it until I was in my early twenties)... The "avoid wearing socks because they make you mad" thing must sound incredibly strange to most people, but I can't agree more. I usually just wear three items of clothing around the house; shirt, underwear, pants (preferably shorts). As for annoying sounds: We have a washing machine here at home that starts to beep loudly three times every 90 seconds, when it finishes washing. It will keep beeping forever, until someone turns it of manually. Oh man... how I HATE that beep. The interval between beeps is JUST long enough to make me unwilling to drop everything I'm doing to walk up and down two flights of stairs - just to turn it off. It doesn't seem to bother anyone other than me and my ADD cousin who visits from time to time though.

ebin ugh I know how you feel... I rebelled against the meds as a child as all I could remember is how angry and miserable I was through-out my early teens to late teens so I stopped taking them never showed up to another psyc drs appt in my life as I was 18 and thought I could easily do without any meds and I did because I actually liked what I was doing at my job at the time and was making a decent living wage.
Anyhow, I worked for a sales distribution company of which I was in with since I was 18 years old.I ended up working my way up in the ranks until the market crashed in 08 we had to let go of 98 of the 200 + people who worked there and had to close down a few vendors(warehouses). The business slowly went under and went down entirely. So I'm going on 30 now and i'm having trouble finding employment as I became very familiar with the routine and people I was in with at my other job. It's been well over a year since I had worked somewhere for more than a few months and can't adjust properly to working somewhere else as I find it overwhelming and get irritated quickly...Yet, I know exactly what you mean! lol . Anyhow goodluck to you

spooninspoon my story is a bit different since my parents were very much against the meds and i only started taking them when the situation became unbaerable and i was about to be kicked out of highschool. the rest of my school career went very smoothly after that and i stopped taking them around age 18, but now at 23 i find myself unable to finish anything i start, i'm at university and it's borderline impossible for me to just sit around and memorize all this useless crap that i don't even want to know, even though i know i have to. i feel like the biggest idiot, my exams start in 6 days and i haven't even started my studying. instead i'm on youtube typing my lifestory to some stranger.
i think i'll try to get back on my meds for a limited time, to see if that's still my ADD or i'f i'm really just a lazy person.

I can’t sit still, and have trouble sleeping... I’ve done meditations; relaxers to help... but these just make it worse for me. 😭

Problems with anger management and high mental sensitivity? Uhuh! Definitely have. I've diagnosed with ADHD and I actually started searching for videos on ADHD because I wanted to make sure that these problems are related to my having ADHD.
I got into trouble at work yesterday for yelling at a colleague for no reason. I was simply very tense at the moment and completely unable to think clearly.
A person without ADHD would not have reacted the way I did. I received a lot of critique for my "unprofessional" behaviour. While I don't to use my ADHD as an excuse, I do feel a lot better that was the actual cause of the problem and I do intend to talk about this with my colleagues on Monday.

In school i used to make straight D's and F's and sometimes C's if i was lucky. My mom took me to a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with ADD. I started taking psychostimulents and i was making straight B's and often A's.

Bad parenting = Adhd. Just my opinon.
Adhd is actually ptsd from a narcissistic or abusive caregiver. Thats why there is the increased risk of being an addict. Your brain is stuck in trauma mode and your seeking dopamine triggers. To make you feel better. Thats why you can only focus on what interest you. ( addiction)

They asked where it comes from. Our natural human brains that we are trying to alter into some sort of chemical "norm" that fits that learning needs of our terrible education system??? I'm sick of how people with ADHD/ADD are treated like there is something wrong with them. It shouldn't even be called a disorder unless it is extremely drastic. I have ADD and honestly see how I act as a natural part of my genetics and personality. I am great at a lot of things and take AP courses without using pills because I know it is not me that's messed up, it's the fact that this system is handing me a mind-altering drug and asking me to use it so I can "learn effectively." How do we even know that the way we are learning is effective? Why do we have to change ourselves?

+therightpaige I totally agree with you. But that extra Dopamine goes a long way for some people. You might not need it, but some people with ADHD or ADD have much worse symptoms and simply forget everything, cant concentrate at all without medication. It's what ever works you. Have a happy ADHD day :)

I'm 22 right now and I am really struggling to find out what I really have wrong with me, and I'm starting to think it was ADHD all along. I thought it was social anxiety or bipolar disorder, but considering how my school life has been I'm coming to ADHD as a conclusion (I loved to learn but school environment forced me to be class clown and I hated it but couldn't help it). In social interactions I can never listen, never make eye contact and can never remember anyone's name. I hardly even listen to anything anyone says, It's like I'm not even there and i switch my self onto auto pilot and smile and nod to everything they say. But there are times when I'm at a gathering and I go mental, talking to everyone about everything to anyone (sometimes with really positive consequences, sometimes destroying an entire friendship) and I can't control what I say. But it usually leads to me putting my own foot in my mouth or being simply scared to say anything, and hence can lead me into a depression that can last weeks. It's interesting though that in this they mention music because that really is one of the thing's I find solace in. If it all gets to bad I go somewhere private and listen to some radiohead.

ADHD and proud! :). You don't need to be treated like an outcast just because you think in a different way. We don't need to be drugged till we drown from side effects. We may need extra attention and more tolerance but when we are focused we do incredible things. For example Albert Einstein was ADHD and dyslexic he didn't solve probloms because he was just smart and had good grades. He solved problems because he looked at them in totaly different ways. And I bale ive anyone with ADHD/ADD Can do the same. Please don't shame yourself about this. Be proud of it , embrace it!

I've ADHD & ADD (environmentally amplified by trauma's) both of them will only get self-perceived as a curse, if you are intelligent enough or are forced to notice your own impulsive behavior (mostly in hindsight) knowing you can't rewind time to redo it, and notice yourself struggling with all the negative features, backlash & stigmas regularly.
I always excelled in school, academically and creatively speaking, except in math. Math.. One of the most important things in life right? The problem wasn't that I'm bad at math, the problem was that teachers have no clue how to teach adhd kids.

I have been diagnosed with ADD ever since I started school, my mother had to pick me up from school while everybody was doing their homework because i could never focus on it in class. Now I'm 21 years old and i still struggle with remembering things, and focusing...it resulted in me having a very very low self esteem which i battle with even to this day. It can be hard at times, but I'm graduating college soon and i can say I made it. If anybody with similar problems think they can't achieve anything...you're wrong, never give up:)

ADHD is perfect,, yea its true i fell into a depression for 4 years . From 5-9 years old but thats wasent why we lost a house we went bankrupped and my parents broke up... But ADHD is a gift, it's who i am its true i care about others .. And ager management... Oh boy i do lol. But still it builds your creativity and makes you, you, we are still unique. So a lot of the things on this video are not correct , im now 13 and am perfectly able to do what i want.. This is not a disability, we are just more hyper

+SKY-911☆CS:GO☆ ADD is bad because it makes you have trouble in school and you cannot be focused when doing something like listening to somebody like lets say I am in school and we are doing math I try to pay attention but my mind goes elsewhere and I can't seem to follow along in a lesson and when I get called do go up to the board to show everybody what the answer is I don't know because I didn't stay focused and didn't pay attention so it kind of hurts your grades in school and I know because I am struggling a lot in school.

please anyone who suffers in silence even adults with it, please seek medical help, life does get better when you get treatment
turning to alcohol and drugs for social acceptance does not work, ive done this and trust me it doesn't work, it makes it worse
when on medication, you have no need for drugs and alcohol, you can function just like everyone else when medicated
there is HOPE!! please get medical attention if you have been suffering for too long
it is treatable, trust science! don't give into the mis-information, this is a real condition and medicine has an extremely effective treatment for it

So I have ADD which is really hard but combined with my
    - OCD
    -Clinical Depression
    -Social anxiety
    - Panic Disorder
    - Separation anxiety
    - Aspergers
    - Dyspraxia
NONE of these things are jokes.
They will not make you cool.
They are not to be self diagnosed.
They are serious, real and sometimes horrible to live with.
If you believe you have anything like one of the many mental "issues" people suffer with talk to a doctor or trusted family member.
Do not think that because, for example, you like things to be tidy means that you have OCD. This is not only poking fun at a difficult life problem for some people it is blowing everything out of proportion. This is also like saying because I have a single zit that my entire face is going to fall off.
Thank you for reading this lecture.
    Sincerely,
A pissed off person who struggles with these things on a daily basis.
    💛
