Bytom before WW2 was German. this synagogue was completely burnt down during the "kristallnacht" by the nazis. the fire station was less than 200 yards away you had it behind you if you turned around. I love Bytom my childhood city

Yes you’re right! Such an interesting part of Poland in my opinion with that history and you can see it in the architecture. Thanks for sharing

Good to see you in Poland!
Instead of Gopniks we are calling them “Dresiarze” in English it would be “Tracksuit-ers” to celebrate their love of cheap Adidas knockoff Tracksuits.
Your pronunciation of polish was quite good, however there is secret Polish deep knowledge that almost 99.9% of foreigners get wrong. Combination of Letters “RZ” and “SZ” actually make a different sound than R or Z separately. ;)
And About Bytom.. it’s one of the cheaper (if not cheapest) cities in the Silesia Region.. There are a lot of problems but the city basically doesn't have money to renovate all these amazing buildings. (It’s echos of bad decision of going all in into coal mining business 70- 100 years ago it was one of richer cities)

Awesome. I have always wanted to see Katowice, Bytom, many other cities in Polish Silesia. I have relatives who live in Ostrava which is close. Great seeing some new towns.

Great vibes in Katowice. Might’ve been my favorite city in Poland. Eager to come back and explore more in the region!

      Finally now I know. Thanks!
Btw after my 3 weeks in Poland I can really say that I liked Silesia. It would be a big statement to make but Katowice might be my favorite city in the country. Loved the vibes there

I think the architecture in this region is really impressive. It looks like Germany. Perhaps because it was part of Germany a long time ago. The town square reminds me of Ostrava a lot. In Czech we say Jak se mas. There is an accent over the s.

Call me when you will visit Bytom next time, I'll show you some parts you possibly didn't seen. Common word for chums is 'dresy' (mentioned below) and 'patoly' (from 'pathology'). Local humor calls Bytom 'city of halant people - everyone starts conversation with the question 'what's your problem, man?' ;)
