If you enjoyed this vlog, I took the train thirty minutes south to explore another city. You can find it here. ruclips.net/video/ns-wFVJcxbc/видео.html
Been there in may and I was totally surprised. I loved the neighbourhoods in the south with the pre-war-architecture. And it was overall so clean and modern… Chorzow and Gliwice also shocked me… I mean that positive. Zabrze however…
Thank you for taking me to this walk. If you like parks there is much bigger one in Katowice- the Silesian Park. It’s truly awesome. All the best in your travels!
@PK1999 you are most welcome. I wish I had more than 3 hours in Katowice. It's on my list to go back and truly explore the city including the bigger parks.
@@TravelwithMrJon 3 hours is a bit short. I guess a weekend stay would allow to see main attractions. See you one win Katowice! In the interim I hit the subscribe button 🙂
@PK1999 thanks 🙏 I guess I need to plan another trip to Poland. Still have to visit Zakopane too… a new city will be shown today just twenty minutes south of Zakopane or thirty minutes by train
Thank you for sharing the added explanations for these spots, especially the buildings. I only had three hours as I was on my way to Pszycna. I know the city deserves more time than 3 hours. Hopefully I can come back and explore it more. @anonimk1316
As to the cool building at 10:30, if memory serves me right it was built around 1910. It’s definitely not Art déco, as it does not resemble that style and was built before Art déco became more widespread in architecture. I would say it represents Art nouveau with a very distinct touch of Wilhelminism. When that building was built Katowice was part of Prussia, in the German Empire.
7:05 The monuments are dedicated to 3 Silesian Uprisings dated: 1919, 1920 and 1921 (one wing per uprising). As a result of the last of them, east part of Upper Silesia was connected to Poland.

If you like visiting churches and similar objects, you might want to visit the city of Częstochowa. It's about an hour drive by car, up north from Katowice. Or maybe 1.5hrs by train. There you can visit Częstochowa's monastery called "Jasna Góra" (white mountain in exact translation). It's huge and you can spend an hour or more in there. You can have a look inside as well as take a walk around on its defensive walls.
@@Cycling.Doughnut That's awesome. When I went to visit I took the train from Krakow, was there for a few hours and then did an overnight in Lubliniec.
I am from Katowice, now Londoner 8 years, from childhood I always heard from other Poles, that this is ugly city. Happy to see you found its hidden beauty.

Katowice koło Mikołowa 😀😀😀
@gerhadfranziksi so I should check out Mikołów next? :)
Czysto i zielono,bardzo ladna architektura.😊
The architecture was varied which I enjoyed @iwonajurczyk5231

@afjo972 it’s really a huge surprise so I agree with you and with the time to explore.
What? Chorzów is the worst city in Poland by far, and no park is able to change that
@@ACSR17 Why is the worst city?
There are some cities which are not for tourism which are: Zabrze, Swietochlowice, Ruda, Chorzow< Sosnowiec.
@@roberttwardowski9711 I heard Sosnowiec was worth visiting.

@MrBubunio thanks for that fun fact! :) Awesome.
Rialto is a movie theater. I watched Space Balls there in the 80s.

The building at 10:39 is not Art Deco. And Art Deco is not from 1900-1910’s. Art Deco is from the 20’s
@Wondwind good to know. I believe another commenter pointed this out as well. No expert here just a tourist
You could go in and try on some wedding dresses, I heard they have big discounts for Americans 😉
