    Katowice are young and modern city. And you won't feel historical atmosphere here. But it's famous for its modernistic architecture from the mid-war period, which definitely should be mentioned in this video! It is located mainly in the southern part of the city centre, and I personally like this part of the city most.
    As for the higher education institutions, you should have mentioned medical university, probably the biggest in Poland.
    and finally - there is a plenty of attractions in all the neighbouring cities, like Gliwice, Bytom, Zabrze or Tarnowskie Góry. You should definitely go there too :)

      @@jm-np4mu well, the city is horribly degraded, first by predatory exploitation of the natural resources and by the heavy industry during communism, then by the post-communist transformation processes. The economy of the city is probably the worst in the entire region. But underneath lies pure beauty waiting to br uncovered.

    Śląsk was my first love in many ways. I came first in 2002 to Poland and stayed for almost 3 months in Bytom, which is a bigger city in the GOP-Area (Upper Silesia) and not far from K-ce as you know. So, when we spent the time in a bigger city, it was always Katowice, that's why I have spent many days there too. Since then... many things changed in Katowice but not really in Bytom unfortunately. Nevertheless... I love this region, maybe it is not beautiful from the first moment but from the second. I love the authenticity of this region and the people living there! Nice video, thanks a lot for showing the beauty of this city! Nice regards, David from Switzerland-

    • @MM-lq4xf
      @MM-lq4xf 5 лет назад

      I think public transport in Poland is so developed because not many have own car not so long ago. There's also much higher population density per square kilometer then it is in many parts of States, so it was possible to provide this services almost everywhere. Plus public transport is cofinance by government or local authorities. Actually many years ago I heard in radio that there was only one profitable tram line in Poland - tram number 6 on Katowice - Chorzów part.

    • @karampuk1974
      @karampuk1974 5 лет назад

      @@MM-lq4xf, public transportation in Chicago is a joke like the rest of the US cities. Citi bus, or streetcar is usually designed with many doors, so it can discharge and load people quickly. Why in the world in US boarding is done only thru the front door. Last Saturday I was sitting on the bus in Vegas for few minutes, while people were boarding, paying fare to the driver (one lady paid with handful of coins), not being able to scan the ticket and so on. I've taken busses in many US cities and again, it is the joke. Supposedly US had most efficient public transportation system in the world few decades ago...
      As for government subsidizing public transportation, they figured out, that it actually pays back in the long run.
      BTW, I love Metromover in Miami. But it's service is so limited..

    If we will all be able to travel again please visit Wrocław. Wrocław is one of the kind. People are uniek, student city, looooong history... Polish/German/then again Polish, beautiful city. City with the oldest restaurant in Europe and maybe the whole world. AKA Piwnica Świdnicka which is dated 1273 yo. With Panorama Racławicka which is 114 m / 15 m picture of the Kościuszko Battle. Japanise Garden in huge Szczytnicki Park... well... Our University has most of the Nobel prize winners than other in Europe...

    I wonder if you or someone would comment on my thought about this. I can't help noticing that Polish culture is under-rated outside of Poland. Apart from Chopin that is. There are many more great Polish composers, writers, poets and artists. Yet they are hardly recognized outside of Poland. Do you agree and why do you think it is?

    • @LoveMyPoland
      @LoveMyPoland  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, Polish culture and Polish historical achievements are most certainly under-rated!!! A huge part of why I decided to make this channel is to cut away at this very problem. I am thrilled to see that you sense that too.

      @@LoveMyPoland Yea, he's right! You can almost see that from that still shot of MCK and Spodek you have included in the film. That one doesn't do it justice though, you need more perspective to see that the space between grassy slanted walls looks like the aftermath of the saucer's hard landing:

      @@LoveMyPoland But wait, there's more! ;) Katowice really deserves part two, so much more to mention:
      - there's an elevator in one of the old city hall buildings that goes also sideways, making a round trip on a rectangular path. Also does not stop, you hop in and out. Some days of the year its open for the public;
      - the old workers' district, Nikiszowiec. Beautiful brick buildings with window sills painted red (paint "borrowed" from the coal mine) or green (same thing, paint from the ironworks). A glimpse tells you who lived there right away;
      - the new railway station with escalators not working from the very beginning and people celebrating the anniversaries of them not being fixed by throwing parties there with tv, cake, press etc. as a sarcastic way to remind the authorities of the problem each year;
      - that round corner of said railway
      station/mall that you show in the film dubbed "cyber clitoris" by people (you might want to skip that one though, hehe).
      - and it goes on and on...

    Film jak zwykle na wysokim poziomie, ciekawe jest to jak obcokrajowiec wzbudza uczucia patriotyczne w nas Polakach. Łącząc wątki o uczelniach i Jerzym Kukuczce, możnaby wspomnieć o AWF Katowice - uczelnia jest bowiem jego imienia.
