Hi, i'm from Katowice. Tomorrow should be another sunny day, so You have to, You must visit silesian park, next to park is very unique tauzen estate (osiedle tysiaclecia). Other day You may visit tree lakes (trzy stawy) area and culture zone near spodek (flying saucer). There is many other places to see. Have good time.

3:02 this building is called "superjednostka" which can be translated to English as "super unit". It is kind of variation about Le Corbusier's modernistic idea of city in the building - Unité d’habitation.

The Nikiszowiec and other industrial areas are great for fans of the architecture and Mariacka as well as similar streets are great for night life!

Katowice is the capital city of Silesia. You should've gone to the Silesian Park in Katowice which is the biggest park in the world with lots of attractions eg. Silesian Zoo, Silesian Amusement Park, overhead chair lift and gondola, etc. It's especially beautiful when the weather is right. You should learn about Silesian culture and Silesian language.

    • @Mikolaj91
      @Mikolaj91 2 года назад +13

First thing, you are lying Aaron Bogatch.
The "Silesian Park" is not in Katowice but in Chorzów (a neighboring town).
Once, this park was called "Park Chorzowski", only Katowice got out of this and changed its name for the sake of peace and quiet.
It is not the largest park as such, it is the largest man-made park in degraded post-industrial areas (620 hectares).
Info from the park's website: "Park Śląski is located in Chorzów at Aleja Różana, on the border of Siemianowice Śląskie, Chorzów and Katowice".
As for the attractions, I agree, there is a zoo, an amusement park, a planetarium, a Silesian stadium (once a national stadium, until Warsaw was reminded of it), a cable car and lots of green areas.

@@Mikolaj91 Sir You are just picking on mr Aaron:)
Silesian aglomeration and Katowice Metropolitan area is a large mining area, depend on the sources it has around 3,5 million people.
The park is in the triangle between 3 cities: Chorzów, Katowice and Siemianowice.
Its in the Chorzów borders but its not included in ANY Chorzów district, because of its-beyond-city character. It belongs to the whole Silesian region.
Silesian Stadium is in Chorzów borders.. would You say it belongs to Chorzów? The Colors of the Seats are in Silesia Voivodship colors. Even Ruch Chorzów football team doesnt play there- they have their own stadium :)
Katowice Złota and Bytkowska street are touching the park, i think You can find some trees from Katowice or Siemianowice which are part of the park..

      @Mikolaj91 2 года назад +3

      @@lord0qb
      * Yes, it is located in a triangle between three cities, but it does not change the fact that it is the area of Chorzów and the other two cities only border on them.
      * The park does not belong to any of the districts, it is rather understandable because the park itself occupies a large area, where would it make sense to add it to a district?
      * So according to your reasoning, the area between the three cities does not belong to any of them because it belongs to Silesia? Do you know that these cities also belong to Silesia? Your reasoning is strange.
      * I am not saying that it is Chorzów and nobody from outside the city has the right to enter there because it is the good of the whole of Silesia.
      * I only corrected the bad information that the park is in Katowice, because every Silesian (not Katowice residents of course, because they would like everything in Silesia to belong to them) know that the park is located entirely in Chorzów.
      * The area of the park belongs to Chorzów and you will not change it, just like the Silesian Stadium.
      * I do not understand why "Ruch Chorzów" would play there if it served as the national stadium a few years ago and there were matches of the national team there.
      * Team Ruchu has had a place to play for decades, which does not change the fact that it also played at the Silesian stadium.
      * Regards and please read a little and find out what it looks like because repeating bad information will not magically turn it into true information.

    • @lord0qb

@@Mikolaj91 I didnt say the park is not in Chorzów:)
I just treat it like a creation beyond city borders.
Chorzów is not the biggest city and they dont have enough money to maintain it. That’s why Silesian Voivodship owns 100% Park Śląski Spółka Akcyjna
they had to make the borders of silesian cities somehow. And true. The park is in Chorzów administrative borders
I think mr Aaron used some sort of mental leap, I have to agree, his comment wasnt accurate
*Ruch Chorzów doesnt play on Stadium Śląski because
      - it is a national and Voivodship stadium
      - they dont have enough fans to fill it
      - it wasnt built from Chorzów money
Ruch played over there only a few times.. with Sofia.. with Inter Milan, (i was there but not the whole stadium was open), few times Wielkie Derby Śląska with Górnik Zabrze.. and around 10 league matches.. that’s all.
I think Górnik Zabrze or Polonia Bytom played more games in European Cups over there than Ruch:)
I have nothing against Chorzów, its a nice city, i have friends over there and i wish Ruch to return to ekstraklasa soon where they belong:) Ruch football match on Cicha was the first game in my life where my father took me when i was little so i have sentiment
I live in Katowice for around 25 years but its never too late to read something new:) for example i didnt know that 100% of the park is in Chorzów administrative borders, i thought 1% could be in Katowice or Siemianowice :) kind regards -
      Have a nice day :)

There is big shopping centre Silesian shopping centre To be accessible by tramp ! Katowice was industrial town very neglected by the government for years ? Finally they did something for the city! Unfortunately many people from outside Katowice especially from Warsaw or Kraków looking down at the city and dislikes the people from the city created some not nice jocks sometimes! Not always but it happens! We do have different accents of Polish language and we have dialects very difficult to be understanding by other Polish people from different part of Poland!

There is one important thing about Spodek - it's constructed in a technology called tensegrity. It's the most material efficient way of building. All stresses are at balance! It's engineering jargon for something like balancing stones on a beach, except you balance a stick on a piece of wire. I strongly recommend you to check tensegrity on youtube. Especially tensegrity towers. They pull themselves up by the bootstraps :)

It is too late to tell. Yet best thing to do is to buy 1 day ticket on ZTM. Hop on tram or bus and just ride. Hop on tram nr 6 in Katowice. This way You will ride to Chorzów and Bytom . Then You can go to Bytom bus station and choose. Tarnowskie Góry or Gliwice or maybe Zabrze. Each of those cities is quite different place to visit. Each one has something interesting in them. For 11 złoty ( 3 Euro or Dollar ) You are able to visit almost all Silesia. People underestimate Katowice but forgot how vast is and interconnected is this region. Sometimes it is hard to even see where one city ends and another begins ...

Katowice is hard coal. It's the reason this city was founded. We all know the history of coal mining. The older generation, the witnesses time of "Solidarity" remember Margaret Thatcher's crackdown on mines in Great Britain. Younger ones witness the process of propaganda against fossil fuels, which took on a new "flavor" after the mask fell from Germany and its dirty business with Russia following the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
Katowice shares the fate of all coal-related cities around the world but fights for a new future

What is worth to be mentioned, the mall "Galeria Katowice" is mergef with the train station Katowice. The station part is between the mall and tracks, a part of it you can see on the video in 12:08.
Honestly, in Poland there was several projects trying to merge the train stations with the shopoing malls and I think the Katowice one (and Kraków Główny station) are the only ones that succeeded.
On the other hand, the train station/shopping mall in Poznań is a total disaster, known for all the country how bad it is... 🙁

Since you mentioned who "liberated" Katowice, you might also notice that name of this city in 1953-1956 was Stalinogròd (Stalin Town).

Good for You for not listening some people in this case and finding out for yourselves. It has been quite a while since all of the Silesian aglomery was dull, gray and not interesting to visit. And yes there are lots of parks. Even many years before because "green places" were essential to all the pollution in this industrial region. Many years back some scientists from Japan came "here" and they estimated that there should not be any life in places like this (for instance) "Miasteczko Śląskie" - where there was a mine of zinc and lead. But of course there was life here. It goes to show you that science is not always correct. xD
And yes places like the Nikiszowiec are great to visit. It will take You back in time and show You how it was "here" at the "beginning". Those red buildings for miners are called "Familoki". The name was created from two words "family" and "block". This in silesian "dialect" means just blocks for families. After all the changes that came to Poland and Silesia in particular those are one of the last places considered to have original silesian culture.
You should also visit the surrouding cieties like Gliwice (there is a "Palmiarnia" - Palm House to visit). Radio Station - where there was conducted so called German provocation to start WW2. In Zabrze take a look at Guido mine... among other interesting places of course.
    Have a fun time. :)

I just saw this saturday there is a knight tournament in Będzin castle, only 15 min by car from Katowice
There are gonna be some knight fights, people in medieval clothes, fire show…
Great Opportunity to visit zagłębie (instead of Sosnowiec ;) Będzin is a former Jewish ghetto when Poland was under occupation

Indeed! When someone tells you "not to go there" - just go there! :D
Same in Waresaw - lots of ppl will tell you not ot go to the right side of the Vistula river, to Praga Północ, or Praga Południe... But, thet's the places you really want to visit! ; ]
(exactly the same situation when I've landed in Callao/Lima - ppl were like: "no! don't go here and there"! But that was the signal for me: go there! :D)

Another city that never gets visited by tourists is Poznań, which where I'm from. It's a beautiful stunning medieval city, pretty similar to Wrocław a bit, yet no one is visitting. I don't get it. So if you ever want to come back to Poland, consider checking out the capital of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) Region!

Maybe Katowice was boring in the 80/90-ties or before but now it is interesting. Polish people have low self-esteem so they (we) usually think that there is nothing interesting in most of the places in Poland. But it looks like for foreigners there is plenty to explore. If you like the mix of different styles of architecture in one place, Warsaw is the city which offers the biggest mix.

No, we don’t have low self-esteem. Please speak for yourself. I believe Poland is the best country in the world and I can afford to live very comfortably anywherevin the world. And I choose Poland. Miłego dnia!

@@markg1531 I love Poland too but I think each country has it's charm. And yes, Polish people have low self-esteem. Look at the comments. They are shocked that foreigners like Katowice and other places, they think it is boring, don't go there. And saying "Poland is the best country in the world" is the best example of low self-esteem.

Hi :) Could you please double check the chapters on the movie? It seems that they may be incorrect. For example "Why Krakow" instead of "Why Katowice", "Galleria Krakow" instead of "Galeria Katowicka", "Things to do in Warsaw" instead of "Things to do in Katowice". Cheers from Katowice :)

The best places to visit are the ones that nobody talks about. For example Northern Poland Masuria (Old Prussia) has the most beautiful nature, castles, historical sites. For example Święta Lipka, Wilczy Szaniec just to name a few. Do a bit of research on Northern Poland and you'll thank me later 😁😁😁
