The first Polish city I ever saw was Katowice after a train trip from Prague in 1991. The city was dark, dirty and uninviting. I have been there a few more times since then. This is the problem with all the comments about Katowice is ugly, because many of people visited city in early nineties whet it was ugly. Now Katowice is changing for much better. You should definitely visit us and see it :)
WOW - stunning! I loved this one so much. Your solution to the "no video" challenge is so creative and interesting - even better than if you could have used your video camera. What a stunning city. I love how you guys open our eyes to the beauty in unexpected places. Cheers!
Bless you guys! You made me feel proud of being Polish actually! I don't live in the country anymore for many years but when I watch your videos I want to go there again and wear kalesony, eat gołábki and see the places I haven't seen for ages. Thanks a lot for sharing the memories!👍🏻
What a great video about K-ce! Katowice is like my second home town, I lived 2002 in Poland for 3 months and I think I have been to this city, 2 or 3 times a week :) But since then it changed a lot! It is really great city, also because of its students and the cool pubs an bars! Thanks a lot, showing us these places and I am sure next time I will visit Nikiszowiec also for taking pictures :) Greetings from Switzerland, David---
Greetings from Katowice! Glad to see foreigners talking good things about this city! It is reaaally beautiful place to live. Katowice is a city placed in Upper Silesia - disputed territory during ages, territory that belongs to Czech Republic, Germany, Poland. Now you can see parts of culture from all this coutries here. Amazing city, amazing land with strong and proud people :)
Great video! I've only been in the train station in Katowice, but the city is definitely on the radar for the future! Fel, your Polish pronunciation is getting much better, when you said Zalipie a few times, it was really good! -Ken
so glad you were not discouraged by some comments and that you visited Katowice. I studied there and really like this city :) it's very different to many other big cities in Poland as it is quite new only 152 years! That's why the squares and main streets are quite big/wide. Next time in Katowice be sure to visit concart hall you passed by on the way to museum. It's called NOSPR (The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra hall) and it's amazing inside! Also you showed parts of the square with benches and water "canal", in summer we have palm trees there and a lot of fun. Cathedral in Katowice is also great example of 1920/1930 architecture, giant, massive white church, very, very different to cathedrals in other Polish cities. Anyway, great video! Have fun!
You should come to Katowice in june, for annual event called "Industriada". During that event You can visit places You normally can't have access to, like powerplants, old mines, old factories or other listed buildings and relics related to heavy industry mostly, as Silesia has long industrial history. Objects are in different places and cities, but usually theres free transport organised. Mikołów, neighbour city, is also worth visiting. It is rather small town, 700 years old, with pretty marketplace. I also recommend you see Pszczyna with it's palace and park which is part of ancient forest, inhabited by bisons. There are also few remains of castles in the area, like in Będzin, in Olkusz, and in Chudów if one likes this kind of things. PS. There are government buildings around the market place, is why there are plenty of flags. Also, we celebrate our independence day 11 of november, and they might be there at this time of year in a number :D
So cool! I loved Katowice! Great Museum, so entertaining and informative. Bummer couldn't go up the mine tower, great view. Hope you enjoy the dwarves. There is a Polish doughnut place a little ways off the main square. Open all day, always a line and what ever is fresh when you get to the window is what you pick from. So good and I want to say less than 2 Zloty.
Another great work from you guys. Next time you need to stay bit longer in Silesia , it's so great.Katowice are awsome , but hope you will find some time in the future to visit the rest of this great part of Poland.
Wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I was in Katowice in August and September (Summer) 2018. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments. Is a truly beautiful and exciting place. Highly commended.
Katowice is a beautiful city. About 5 years ago renovation was started here and it has really changed this city. Besides what you already saw there are also beautiful parks here. 3 stawy - its like a lake complex, very big and great for a walk or a bike ride. There's also Park Śląski with astronomical observatory, amusement park and cableway through the park.
Lard with onions and bacon!! I loved this video - I lived in Katowice 6 years (now I’m in Warsaw) and this brings back great memories. Good job guys! The Christmas market in Nikiszowiec is worth a visit :)
Katowice is my favorite Polish city, I love it so much, I feel there like I'm at home, and I'm not even from there. People who told you not to go there, because it's ugly prooably have never been there or been there long time ago. You can find there a lot of history, green parks, historical buildings, a lot of good concerts, exhibitions, good food, good school, everything! People are ignorants, Katowice is the most beautiful city in Poland, propably in the entire world ;) have a nice day to everyone!
I am from Poland (Warsaw) and often set out to explore Polish cities. I aimed at exploring evry prominent cities in my country. I am projecting to make a trip to Katowice next year encouraged by a few of buddies to do it. The city is comprised of the greenbelts in 40%. It has underestimated monuments, exhibits and secession style buildings. Not so far to Chorzów (has one of the biggest urban park in the world) and Kraków.
@ the museum: No videos? Not a problem - we can make photos instead. Haha, kind of rebellious attitude, and that part went off AMAZING! (including voice-over & music) I'm very impressed by your film-editing skills. Keep up the good work!
Great video as always! I had no idea how Katowice has changed since I was there last time and I'm only from Oświęcim aka 'Auschwitz' now live in UK. Keep up the good work guys, cannot wait for the next episode. 😚
The thing about Katowice is it is quite unique - people are bit different, atmosfere is bit different and sometimes you get this whole counterculture feeling. Sometimes people from Silesia feel more fellowship thing for Silesia than for a Poland as itself. Definitely not for everyone, but definitely not ugly place.
My hometown is Tarnów, but since one year i live in Katowice :) there is a lot of stereotypical thinking about Katowice and Silesia, my family and friends were surprised when i decided to move here, but the city is changing really fast and it's worth seeing especially in summer :) I haven't been in Nikiszowiec yet, but after you video i really need to visit this area and the restuarant with Zalipie theme :) The pictures form museum are super cool as well:)
Guys, come see me in the summer. Like if you ever come back to the seaside. I'm in little town in the middle of nowhere - Szczecinek. I'd love to show you around.
Kłomino isn't really there anymore. :-/ They demolished as least one of the blocks. I was saying, if they were already in the area, drive a couple of hours to Szczecinek. Spend a day in a nearby village. Hang out around our lake.
Hey guys! accidently found your video there :) I absolutely love it! I'm from (as we like to call it) KATO! For the past probably 10 years it has changed a looot and became more modern and open to tourists. I think if you liked it in the winter you'd love to go back in the summer, it's great to visit Mariacka st during the evenings, and ride bicycles around the city itself or even visit the neighbouring cities of Silesia which are so close to each other.. and as you already know our food is amazing and worth coming back for more :)
We're so glad you found us, Sandra! It definitely looks like Kato would have a great vibe in the summer and hopefully we'll get to enjoy more of Silesia next year. Welcome to the family :D
I am originally from Katowice. Glad you are enjoyed food and city. And yes is true poles avoid cameras lens not because we don't like to be filmed is just because we wont destroy others photos. Polish propriety ;)
5:10 Home-rendered lard from pork bellies is an art and tradition in Poland. People use different add-ons, makes it taste slightly differently from place to place.
Great video. I so agree with you...it's a pretty cool city. I too had many of my followers telling me the same thing "Why on earth would you go to Katowice?" I stayed at the Hotel Angelo aka Vienna House and was able to walk to just about everything that you featured. Anyhow, great job you guys for highlighting a lesser known part of Poland.
I am a 38 year old U.S male and first generation that will being going to this city for the first time. I have family I have never met that lives there. I have never been to Central Europe. I’m excited to meet the people and culture of my parents.
Most of people remembers Katowice from late 90's or even older. That's why there were so many bad opinions you've read. Since 2010 the city came through a collosal change and right now it is the best city to visit while you are in Silesia. Come back here in summer, see the park at the edge of Katowice and Chorzów city. And maybe you can also see some forests nearby. This is something very special nowadays, that you can go straight from a city center to a forest in less than 15minutes...
I've been watching your videos for a loooooong time (mostly polish videos, haha) and I'm very happy that you enjoy my beautiful country. The next time you will be here you must visit ZAKOPANE, best in spring, because of the thousands of purple flowers everywhere :) Lots of love!
Thank you for proving us wrong! It's great to see that you two are open-minded and willing to experience the less popular places, too. Great content, I'm a fan!
Fantastic polish pronunciation! And I loved the interaction in the restaurant - proves that you don't have to know the language to be able to communicate. Thank you for showing Katowice as it is - industrial and modern, with lots of history and culture.
It is so pleasure to watch your PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTIONS about traveling, and your brilliant ideas for shooting and staging. You definitely must have PATREON account, so we could send you a money. Time to move forward guys - You deserve it !!!
Next time you have to eat Kluski Śląskie with rolada and czerwona kapusta(Silesian Dumplings with Roulade and purple cabbage). It's traditional silesian food. I almost forgot. You have to try donuts from "Tradycyjna Pączkarnia" on street 3 maja.
Don't Go! Don't Go! What do you do? You go. Hahaha Love what you two are doing. Keep up the good work. I am preparing myself to do the same worldwide and studying people like you two who are actually doing it. Much respect. Namaste
Great Great part of vlog! This idea with animated photos is amazing! great job Wes ! and this 'butter' for bread in poland we called SMALEC and in winter days it gives you lot of power and energy specially in the early morning :) great to have you guys here again!
So glad to see you've visited my beloved city! Love your movies and I am so glad you've visited Katowice and broke the stereotype by showing people how beautiful the city is! If you ever get a chance to come back there you may want to check out the NOSPR (National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio) - one of the best concert halls in Poland, bars in Mariacka street or i- f you visit during spring/summer - Katowice's beautiful parks - 3 Stawy, Park Kościuszki or Park Chorzowski (the biggest) . Not many people know that Katowice - despite its industrial nature - is one of the greenest cities in Poland (40% of its total area is forests and parks!!) + If you liked Nikiszowiec, you would like its older "brother" - Giszowiec too, it was created by the same architects but it has completely different style of so-called "garden city" - it is full of cute, little houses from the beginning of the XX century and interesting historical buildings :) Have fun!!
So few questions. 1. Do you don't have 'kalesony' in Canada? I think it is bit cold there sometimes also :D 2. Who had the idea of the motion picture story in the museum? It was amazing to watch it! And the last one 3. Do you know how cool you are? It is always great to watch you :D Big hugs, much love, keep doing what you are doing!
Hey guys, I'm so proud and glad that you enjoy Poland and polish cities! And now, you'll be in my city, Wrocław. Can't wait for your next film! :D It was so funny when that woman in restaurant was speaking polish to you >

You are guys amazing and it was great to see someone visiting my hometown areas, Im from Tychy, people call this place a "Katowice's bedroom" as many people working in Katowice were living in Tychy, very different, green and welcoming place with lots of parks and lake called Paprocany where you can drink well known local beer Tyskie while enjoying lake view! Great video! ♡

hi guys! you saw so many flags on main square becouse at 11th novermber is Polish National day. I live near katowice and i thing that is realy nice city, i hope you like it. Good luck in Poland trip ;)
Heey, it's so nice that you had given a chance to Katowice :) Beautiful city in my personal opinion. Judging by this video you have seen only a few, you should totally see something which is called Modern Architecture trail! You know, the whole region of upper Silesia is so complex (by this I mean: historically, geographically :), socialy as well) that not only the Katowice but also Gliwice, Zabrze or Tarnowskie Góry are worth visiting. By the way, did you know that this industrial region has enormous areas covered by 'nature-thing' places - I mean forests, lakes, it's close to the mountains..? I could be your guide throughout the Silesia, if you're visit it again. :)
Couple interesting facts for you guys. In Nikiszowiec, red paint on the windowframes is leftover from local mine. In different parts of the City you can, find different colours of paint, depending on what shade they used on mine or ironworks. Second thing. Silesians are not that proud of beeing poles. Is more like very light version of of catalunya. Thanks for visiting, hopefully see you again 😉
I forwarded this vlog to Lidka who was my Photoshop teacher at George Brown College and who is Polish. I fell in love with her as well as you two and she has invited Phil and I to her charming house in Beaverton a couple of times. Here's her response to discovering your vlog: "Oh WOW! thank you!!!!
I love the way you two interact! It was a pleasure to watch you travel the world. Keep it up, can't wait for more!
People are ignorants, Katowice is the most beautiful city in Poland, propably in the entire world ;) have a nice day to everyone!
it is so nice to hear that you enjoyed Katowice that much! :)
I'm so glad u visited Katowice! U have to come back on sumertime to see the party side of the city and enjoy Silesian Park - bigger than Central Park!
@ the museum:
No videos? Not a problem - we can make photos instead. Haha, kind of rebellious attitude, and that part went off AMAZING! (including voice-over & music) I'm very impressed by your film-editing skills. Keep up the good work!
Great video as always! I had no idea how Katowice has changed since I was there last time and I'm only from Oświęcim aka 'Auschwitz' now live in UK. Keep up the good work guys, cannot wait for the next episode. 😚
I love youu guys lol you are the greatest travel couple on the youtube honestly
The thing about Katowice is it is quite unique - people are bit different, atmosfere is bit different and sometimes you get this whole counterculture feeling. Sometimes people from Silesia feel more fellowship thing for Silesia than for a Poland as itself. Definitely not for everyone, but definitely not ugly place.
My hometown is Tarnów, but since one year i live in Katowice :) there is a lot of stereotypical thinking about Katowice and Silesia, my family and friends were surprised when i decided to move here, but the city is changing really fast and it's worth seeing especially in summer :)
I haven't been in Nikiszowiec yet, but after you video i really need to visit this area and the restuarant with Zalipie theme :) The pictures form museum are super cool as well:)
Thank you for visiting Katowice! Dziękujemy:)
I study in this city, I got used to it and you guys reminded me that Kato can be really interesting :)
It's such a cool city! Thanks Anita :)
You guys are great!! Love watching your videos! G'day from Australia!
Fantastic editing! I've never been to Katowice. Looks great!
Congratulations! I'm a Pole and you've just made me think of visiting Katowice. And follow you on Instagram as well ;)
Katowice is a nice citiy. I think they are rather safe, in the city center it is nice, also Gliwice and Bytom is interesting.
Wow, finally! You should visit Katowice again during summer.
That thing you ate with bread is traditional polish lard with pork rind ;)
Guys, come see me in the summer. Like if you ever come back to the seaside. I'm in little town in the middle of nowhere - Szczecinek. I'd love to show you around.
I would love to see this collab!😊
❤️
Oh man, can I join? The seaside would be perfect :3
I would also join for Szczecinek because I wanna see that Kłomino thing!
Kłomino isn't really there anymore. :-/ They demolished as least one of the blocks.
I was saying, if they were already in the area, drive a couple of hours to Szczecinek. Spend a day in a nearby village. Hang out around our lake.
Your 'photo' vlog editing in museum was amazing. Nicly done!
You did good job for Katowice, thank you very much.
Hey guys! accidently found your video there :) I absolutely love it!
Haha that motion picture stuff at the musem, 11/10!
I know Katowice and Chorzow. I lived in Dabrowa Gornicza for nearly ten years and visited Katowice once or twice a week. A lot of green and parks.
Katowice are great. I would Say that in every city im Poland you can find something great :)
We completely agree with you Kasia!
I loved the Restuarant and the old buildings
I would say anywhere in Europe, it is truely an exceptional continent
Maaaan, this montage from museum - sooo cool !
I've been watching your videos for a loooooong time (mostly polish videos, haha) and I'm very happy that you enjoy my beautiful country. The next time you will be here you must visit ZAKOPANE, best in spring, because of the thousands of purple flowers everywhere :)
Lots of love!
I was in Katowice and made a difference Vlog perspective of the city.Rented a car, went to Restuarant and it was fun.
Heading there in 2 weeks. The look on your face at the restaurant makes me so glad i will be with a friend that speaks polish. I would be so lost.
your videos are getting relay good and professional
It is so pleasure to watch your PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTIONS about traveling, and your brilliant ideas for shooting and staging. You definitely must have PATREON account, so we could send you a money. Time to move forward guys - You deserve it !!!
I agree, Katowice may not be a very historic or picturesque city but there are a lot of interesting things to see there. It's definitely not ugly.
I lived in many places including Cracow and Warsaw, but Katowice will always stay in my heart
Just came back from Katowice yesterday.. The nightclubs there are better than in Krakow and even West Germany where Im from...
there were so many Polish flags because on 11 November we were celebrating National Independence Day in Poland 🇵🇱
Im from Katowice! City of music and art
Don't Go! Don't Go!
What do you do?
You go.
Hahaha
Love what you two are doing.
Love the "lots of photos" / stop motion in museum... :)
Very clever...
It was so funny when that woman in restaurant was speaking polish to you >
Ohhh soo nice! I was born there and i live on Katowice for over 14yo :d
Awesome guys. Loved it..Love watching you guys enjoy yourselves... You guys are the cutest couple !! Much love my friends xoxo
I think it’s great that you couldn’t film in that museum because that photo freeze frame combination (or whatever you call it) looked cool.
i love the effect of doing lots of pictures instead of filming
cudze chwalicie swego nie znacie - tak było jest i będzie . ludzie nie zdają sobie sprawy że to co dla innych jest nudne lub nie warte nic dla innych byle detal jest inspiracją . WIĘCEJ WIARY:) thank you for movie - keep goin
Good job guys. Its nice to find a nice places in Poland thanks to You( even if Im Polish)
I love Katowice. People say Katowice are horrible because that is what it used to be like.
Im from Katowice , Poland. I was born here and love that place :), 1000- lecie zone check it :D
Ps. That public-places was restored 1 year ago, Center Katowice wasn't so impressive before :), greetings!
Place looks awesome.
hi guys! you saw so many flags on main square becouse at 11th novermber is Polish National day.
Thank you so much, Kinga!! We hope we'll be able to visit again and see more of Silesia next time. It would be great to meet you :)
I love the way they interact - total pleasure to watch them discover Poland!
Thank you, thank you ! I subscribed, of course :)".
Nice place to visit.
O wow, your method to avoid video recording ban was EPIC!
