That's brilliant. This is the little stuff that saves so much time that almost no one talks about. I think your niche should be all about showing short cuts and time saving techniques. Just one man's opinion.
Thank you so much man i have only got a cracked version of Ableton as a beginner with no external midis as of yet not even an audio interface, just some head phones! But, man i am learning so much and you dont complicate it like others do. Just subscribed and im happy to see you've still been uploading tutorials. Can't wait to go through all of them and gain more knowledge. Bless you man, hope all is well in these crazy times. More experimenting and beats suppose? Why not man ;)
glad i found this - thanks! i need to study it like 30x tho - lots happening there in the middle as you are furiously tweaking. my brain doesn't work that fast ;) super helpful vid-
actually thought of this the other day, but i used the rate to automate a single woodblock so it sounded as if it were scraping a bit of a different sound to ping pong / time delay
at 3:50 he duplicates the automation, but how does he duplicate just the automation?, whenever i do that the whole midi track gets duplicated with the automation and i end up with a bunch of spliced midi tracks
It doestn give me an option to insert midi clip when I highlight the bar as you did in around 1:05 mins in the video. Also I noticed you inserted a MIDI track and selected an audio clip, how does that even work?. Also I cannot hear the sounds of the snare when I dropped it down into the box below like you did. Can you help me with this situation, thank you.
HELP the Arpeggiator will not Work. I can not get my drum single hits to increase in tempo to achieve the Drop. The drum hits continue to play at the same rate.
Awesome tuto, I need some help, I'm new with ableton the point is sometimes when i try to clip to open INSERT NEW MIDI CLIP that option just don't appear. Could anybody help please? thx a lot
cleber nunes When you right click, make sure you click towards the top of the section you are in. the Insert New Midi Clip option won't appear if you right click below the top area. Hope that makes sense!
Hey guys, so Im having trouble with Ableton and I know theres a lot of experts and people who know what they're doing on it so why not ask it. I've been using it for a while now, but I mainly make stuff with headphones on. Now when I play it through my Macs speaker it doesn't sound anything like it does with headphones on? and sometimes I don't even hear sounds that I can hear loud and clear on the headphones? Is it because of my headphones or does something need to be adjusted on Ableton? Thanks for any answers in advance :) P.S- I'm using Dre Beats HD Solo's.
That all comes down to your mixing environment. Thats why people work in studios because they are built for the sound to be shaped to be heard everywhere and out of any device the same. Some stuff you wont hear in your headphones that high little snap or click, same reason you don't hear the bass as good coming out of your computer speakers because the headphones are just built differently. I would look into purchasing some more of a mixing pair of headphones...Beats are known to be pretty bass heavy. I mean bass is cool, but when it comes down to mixing everything else is just as important. But it has nothing to do with your ableton or headphones. Its all about environment. or headphones made for mixing. good luck
Without reading what erik said, It could possibly be your speakers on your mac? Generally you need good speakers for making music through (well what else) speakers. Ones that come built into computers/laptops are generally not the best
Don't mix using headphones they give you a false idea of what the mix will sound like on speakers. Like Rubix said above if your serious about getting a decent sound invest in a good set of monitors.Get some Near field monitors if you haven't got a lot of space.
Going back to my previous post, i found out that, if i change volume of my snare BEFORE insert new midi clip, it won't give a option to creat a new midi clip, but if i insert my snare and create a new midi clip RIGHT THE WAY, that option shows up. I have no idea why, but its wht is happening. hope that help newbies like me.
I know this is like 2 years late but, when i dp the rate and do exactly what you do, the beat stays at the same rate yet, the rate knob is saying that it is changing but i can hear that it is not? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THANKS
+Josh Kessell I'd have to make a whole video just to explain that. But basically there's two screens: the screen with all the clips... and the "composer" screen where you make the actual song. Basically what you want to do is create a new clip in the "clips" screen, write one note in it. (Can be a bass drum, snare, tom, whatever...) and drag that clip to the composer screen and make sure you drop it on the correct device. Then, the way that I do it, is I open up that SPECIFIC DRUM... whatever it was... in this case a snare. Open the options for the device so it displays all the drums... double click on the snare... you'll see it pop out... put the arpeggiator on THAT. Somewhere there's a little "Play" triangle looking thing ">" with some lines behind it. Click on that to make sure the composer is going out of the Master. Then you should hear the audio change when you dial it up or down on the arpeggiator.
The best comment ever! No school, the video will always be free. Knowledge should be free. Thanks for watching =3

That's brilliant. This is the little stuff that saves so much time that almost no one talks about. I think your niche should be all about showing short cuts and time saving techniques. Just one man's opinion.
This a seriously handy! Thanks a lot for this, man! Saved me hours of piano roll fiddling.

Omg what is that bass sample at 5:56 - I am dying, this is so good.
Very nice! I used to copy/paste my snares. Never knew you could "arpeggio" it! thank you!!!
Great tutorial mate. Best snare roll tutorial I've seen / heard by a long shot. Pun intended. Keep up the good work, and thanks!
automating the pitch up is also a cool effect, as well as automating the reverb amount and size.
This is great. Never thought to use the arpeggiator to accomplish this. Thanks!

I know this is six years old but the concept still applies to today and it’s a good concept. What are you sidechaining your kick with? Reverb?
Dude thank god for you and your channel.
great tutorial! sick bass after the snare build up, did you already show how to do this?
DUDE at the VERY last second you mentioned you could change the notes during the automated arpeggios! I’m searching HIGH & LOW for that tutorial!
dude, awesome stuff. pls do a tutorial on getting good snares for trance. How to EQ & get them to sound amazing.
Quite useful mate! Could you give us some ideas for making a minimal techno build-up? Thanks.
glad i found this - thanks! i need to study it like 30x tho - lots happening there in the middle as you are furiously tweaking. my brain doesn't work that fast ;)

it's very interestings how you work in ableton and the easy techniques with the automatization, greetings from chile!
This was awesome. 1 noob question though, what exactly is giving the roll that swelling sound that makes it come in and out?
Auto filter?
An excellent technique to build snare rolls....thank you sir.
actually thought of this the other day, but i used the rate to automate a single woodblock so it sounded as if it were scraping
a bit of a different sound to ping pong / time delay
saves a lot of time doing it like this , great vid again.

Bravo! Great beat too.
Cool that is perfect for a bass drop. Thanks.
i havent the option with the voice´s pitch option... Any ground setting i must have?
Simple and easy 💟
Thanks, i have been looking for this long time
do you have a paypal or something for donations?
ALSO, throw a groove palate on their for a more realistic velocity hit! You would probably have to use a sampler rather than simpler though
excellent video going to use this tonight . Keep up the great videos

or buy some "studio headphones" which have a flat frequency response if you dont have money for studio speakers
