Returning here 2 years after I first saw the video, I realised just now how much I have learnt. I am so grateful for your channel, everytNice tutorialng
AMAZING! who knew that you could do all of that by just throwing around some audio effects. Took me a while to grasp everything you did but works like a charm!
Check out the video "produce like a pro with Chris Lake." Is there ANY way to do that pitch delay stuff he does with that percussion at 33:30 in the video in Logic X? I know Chris himself says it's difficult, but maybe with a stereo or tape delay it's possible? Now that I see what ableton can do with pitch and tempo it drives me crazy that it's this hard to figure out in Logic. Thanks.
As @raensongz said it’s probably just labeled “sidechain” so it’s easy to find when sidechaining but he’s likely using a ghost kick. It’s a duplicate of your kick or just a kick that is to sidechain on your compressor BUT the volume/channel is turned off. You can’t hear the kick but the sidechained items will react still without needing an active kick. It allows you to keep a “pump” sound going when you have breaks and transitions without having that kick going through a break.
Nice one homie, lots of nuggets in there. Why not just boost the volume envelope at the drop when the autofilter comes in, instead of using the utility?
Lenny, not to be contrarian, but could time-stretching create something very similar? i hope not! are the unique sounds you brought forth in this video not possible through time-stretching? (i'd hate to think time-stretching can do everything!)
+Naveh Halperin if you're on Mac it's the alt/option key. You will need to hover over the line you want to curve/bend until it turns BLUE , after it turn BLUE click and hold the blue line while holding the alt/option key and curve it out however you want. hope this helps!
Great video! I compose video game music and my favorite instrument to use is the square wave. I'm just having trouble figuring out how to increase/raise the pitch on every individual note. For example, like how sirens and emergency alarms build up in pitch. Any ideas anyone?
Who could tell me the connection between duet 2 and djm 900? I really wanna know sound flow between them. What is it to connect send/return on rear panel of djm900?
this is great but one problem, right after the drop my gain cuz some quick pop where the level quickly spikes in the red and it makes this kind of pop noise, even though right after its ok, can someone explain please and thank you
is there any way to mute the feedback whenever you stop the track? a gate wouldn't do it for me, this makes it almost impossible for me to actually use in tracks
what you talking about willis? think of craft in the artisan sense, very respectful. if you think crafts have to be juvenile, check out the renwick gallery in DC
You really got nothing to amuse either yourself nor the audience once you decide make music that way which you set everything in advance instead of really playing . Though it still a good tutorial vid which shows the feature of repitch jump and other funtion from simple delay. ^^

This is such a good tutorial, goes in depth to the technical stuff people need. Def going to try utilizing this!
i really like tuts where the end result is shown right at the beginning - nice one...you know if you want to learn more then...
wtf i never knew that you could change an effect's mode like that omg this changes EVERYTHINGHAHAHAHA
The man the legend thanks again Lenny your not only a master in ableton but also a great instructor
Really good tutorial, had heaps of stuff in it and it only took 8 minutes, appreciate it
This is a very informative and well-presented tutorial. Nice job!
Very helpful thanks! DJTT's videos have taken my knowledge of ableton to beginner to intermediate. lol.
Legend! I had no idea Simple Delay had the three different modes.
Great tutorial, I didn't even know you could do so much with the Simple Delay :)
YOU ARE THE MAN !!! THANKS LENNY !!!
I would love to see more Ableton Live tutorials like this. Preferably for studio work if it fits in this channel.
=)
For some reason it doesnt give me the option to map the frequency and dry/wet to macro 2. Any help would be appreciated!
I didn't even realize the simple delay could do that!
Simple delay is powerful. It can take ur track to a level u never thought
Thanks for the tips, very cool FX.
For some reason the Beat Offset Percentage isn't pitching the delay up and down? It just grooves it differently...
+Sound System Right click on the simple delay bar and choose repitch
+Elie ishac AH thanks! I always forget that brings up an additional menu. It's kinda hidden!
This is a Master, thanks Lenny great Job.
Very nice effect, thanks for that idea.
i just had a listen to your soundcloud page - your track: "This Time" is really nice....great sound there...
Very cool video man! Definitely subscribed 🇨🇦

Such a neat trick!
Sweet....this is a must try!
This is great tutorial! Learned a lot! Thanks!!
Did he call us tools?
HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHAHAH
Mechabite, That was my VERY first thought
Thanks for the idea! Very practical
You side chain it to your own side chain? what do you have in that track? Am I missing something?
hes prolly using a ghost kick midi channel for giving that pumpy sound
As @raensongz said it’s probably just labeled “sidechain” so it’s easy to find when sidechaining but he’s likely using a ghost kick. Great tutorial! I didn't even know about this!
I usually set the delay to time instead of sync so that you have a larger range
This is some brainiac type of stuff. I knew I should've paid attention in algebra.
Arcade cabinet sound
AWESOME! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Excellent - Thank you!
thanks TJR
how do you map the pitch reset to a button for impulse/drum rack?
HELP! does anyone know how to do this curve? 5:38
on a mac hold alt or option on your automation ramp... i'm not sure which button it is on a pc mate.
Tyla-Joe Connett yessss also in windows. Thanks a lot man :)
Sebastian Carlos No worries man (=
Nice one homie, lots of nuggets in there. Why not just boost the volume envelope at the drop when the autofilter comes in, instead of using the utility?
it's harder to mix down if you automate the channel volume
Lenny, not to be contrarian, but could time-stretching create something very similar? i hope not! are the unique sounds you brought forth in this video not possible through time-stretching? (i'd hate to think time-stretching can do everything!)
Link to project file isn't working.
you are great man. Thx so much
How did you curve that automation line? Thanks!
+Naveh Halperin if you're on Mac it's the alt/option key. You will need to hover over the line you want to curve/bend until it turns BLUE , after it turn BLUE click and hold the blue line while holding the alt/option key and curve it out however you want. hope this helps!
+DAPPER Sweet. Thank you!
Gosh I've needed that for years without even realizing it was possible. Love you for that information budd!
I don't understand why you wouldn't just map the Time instead of Sync. Offset doesn't give you a full range
Great tutorial!
Is it possible to do this in Logic X? I've been searching for hours with no luck.
Great video!
I compose video game music and my favorite instrument to use is the square wave. I'm just having trouble figuring out how to increase/raise the pitch on every individual note. For example, like how sirens and emergency alarms build up in pitch. Any ideas anyone?
envelopes
Thank you!
Who could tell me the connection between duet 2 and djm 900?
I really wanna know sound flow between them.
What is it to connect send/return on rear panel of djm900?
whenever simple delay is on I get a clicking sound that slowly fades out in time with the speed, does anyone know how to get rid of it?
now you can use the simple delay in a creative way!
Excellent
amazing thanks!
nice vid man
Hej
How to format change Abelton Asl file to Wave Or Anther file?
thank you so much
Great Tutorial Man ! But I don t know how to make it for lauchpad S
very cool thank you so much
this is great but one problem, right after the drop my gain cuz some quick pop where the level quickly spikes in the red and it makes this kind of pop noise, even though right after its ok, can someone explain please and thank you
slowflowful or is that normal and its supposed to be masked by the kick drum and thats why he put a chain compressor to duck that part? someone?
slowflowful i didnt use a compressor by the way if that matters lol
slowflowful is the sidechain compressor supposed to duck that intial quick spike
is there any way to mute the feedback whenever you stop the track? a gate wouldn't do it for me, this makes it almost impossible for me to actually use in tracks
+azfiu just turn off the switch of the audio fx rack...
+azfiu you could probably use the auto filter
Cool ! Master!
very cool!
awesome
awesome.
appreciate you!
cool! thank-you!
got it from your site but cant apply it to my ableton -_-

"Crafting" is not a word I'd use if I wanted to be taken seriously.
what you talking about willis? think of craft in the artisan sense, very respectful. if you think crafts have to be juvenile, check out the renwick gallery in DC
Glad you took something meaningful away from this.
infinite zero Well... when you put it that way.
i don't even have repitch, fade and jump on my simple delay.
freshh...
0:18 "error error error error error error error error"
why add a utility gain when u could just use the make up gain. just sayin.
I knew he was annoyed af. @ 3:34 SPEED
"yeah well" "howard" "out"
1980
I thought this was great.
Pointing to nothing at the end haha

Sounded better before when the drop only had low pitched vocal. Very inspirational. The build up sucked.
guys gotta stop say "we're gunna wanna"
We're gunna wanna stop saying that
But we are gonna wanna
"we're gonna wanna"
Sounds off time and not good
Probably because it was automated live, if you automate it by hand it would be more in time. This was just an example.
Legend 😁
