This video was super helpful, I got a 20L Chrome Industries bag today since it was on sale for less than $100.
I've always found the Barrage Cargo to be the most versatile for commuting, and before they axed the repair program, Chrome was a no brainer with the lifetime warranty that would get you repairs and loaner bags while you waited. It's a little bit harder to recommend now, but they are still solid.
Great video, I'd never heard of the Rapha before, & will have to check it out. Currently rocking the latest version of the Osprey Radial, which I definitely recommend anyone considering the Timbuk2 Parker also take a look at. It's 26L but expands to 34. It has slightly more internal organization than the Parker, along with a more specialized back harness that has better ventilation. Also, for your next roundup of commuter backpacks I highly recommend you feature the Ortlieb Vario (formerly Vario PS). It's got a good amount of the features from the Commuter, but it's a pannier-backpack hybrid with a cool flap system that allows for easy attachment to a bike rack. Unlike a lot of other similar bags, this one has the best back padding I've seen.
Other options for welded weatherproof rolltop backpacks are Craft Cadence 21L and 30L. In my opinion, their back panel, comfy backpack straps with ventilation, inside organisation and exterior quick access pocket, and molle webbing make Craft Cadence superior to both Chrome Urban Ex and the Ortlieb City Commuter.
Did you guys happen to test the mous 25L backpack?
Hmmm. Personally, out of the bags showcased, the first Timbuk2, and the later Ortlieb are the most interesting to me. The latter definitely has ... fatal flaws, I think. Very close to being a great option, IMO, but needs some important refinement.
Mission Workshop Rambler also looks neat, but is a fair bit smaller generally. I think good for commuting, sure, but not likely not suitable for schooling. Even when opened up all the way! Wow, that's more space that I anticipated, but I still don't think it would be suitable if you need to carry a lot of books.
Great vid! Personally the Aer TP3s is a lot nicer with more features and not really all that much bigger than the CPP once I was able to compare them both in person. What irks me about the CPP is how thick it is and how it tilts as it hangs off your body. The TP3s has compression straps which do help a little, and load lifters which do help a lot.
Does TP3 mean Travel Pack 3 or Tech Pack 3?
I’ve owned that North Street bag for 5 years. It’s bombproof and the best commuter bag I’ve owned by far. It’s actually weatherproof whereas brands like Mission Workshop only claim to be, but wear out after a single winter of cycling.
great content!!!! however the background music is annoying
In my experience 22-24 liters are the best size. 30 is a bit too big.
The three A's. AER, ABLE CARRY and ALPHA ONE NINER...
who is the voice over the video belong to? name????
It’s ChatGPT 😂
Sorry to disappoint! That’s just our human producer, Sam 👍

Five roll tops? No Evergoods, no Goruck?
great carry brands, but not the best for commuting. evergoods might be. but goruck definitely not.
Love Evergoods and GORUCK - we rec’d both the CPL24 and GR1 from each respective brand in our best EDC backpack guide, but felt like they didn’t serve commuters as well 👍
Please wear the backpacks correctly if you’re going to be exhibiting them
