  • Abuse and violence against shop workers has risen by 50 percent to a staggering 1,300 incidents a day - according to a survey by the British Retail Consortium.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
    These range from racial abuse and sexual harassment to physical assault and threats with weapons. Shoplifting has also shot up to its highest on record. Retailers say the government's response has been "woefully inadequate".

    A child can choose between going into a £27000 debt by studying at university or to become a thief. It's incredibly sad that many equate being educated to being in tonnes of debt.

      Hi, it should be reworded “graduate tax” as you only pay if you earn a certain amount. I graduated in 2009 and have just finished paying it off. If I had gone a few years earlier I would have paid far less, had I gone a few years later I will still be paying for another decade or so.

      It's actually more than 27000, tution fees are 9k per year and Uni courses depending on what course you take can last as long as 4 to 5 years and that's without going for a masters should you choose.
      You then have maintenance loans that students take for their living arrangements, food and essentials for University.

      @@coppershark1973Shoplifters are thieves and criminals who want everything without paying for it. There are plenty of jobs around if they want to work. They know they can get away with it. Honest people end up paying for this crime. Learn to live within your means. Benefits are generous in this country and there are food banks, baby banks, free breakfasts, free lunches for children. Parents can give their children porridge for breakfast instead of sending them to school without any. Get priorities right and learn to cook ftom scratch. Most people have enough to live on if only they spend their earnings, benefits on necessities. Why have half a dozen children and being single when you can't look after them? People do not know how lucky they are in this country. Unfortunately the more freebies you give to people the more they come to rely on this. Majority of countries in this world do not have benefits, pensions, free schooling etc.

    My local Sainsbury’s (UK grocery store) have ramped up security: they’ve put a barrier at the exit of the self scan machines that will only open after scanning a valid receipt. I was told that this was a direct result of unprecedented shoplifting. I don’t think this will do much as the staff don’t have time to thoroughly check everyone’s bags when there’s possible need to. The measures have definitely made honest shoppers more annoyed and frustrated when they’re trying to leave. so on one hand you’ve got a problem of thieves and on the other you’ve got upset honest shoppers being treated like criminals…. There’s also the issue of the store’s security attendant who looks the most non-threatening person I’ve ever seen at 5ft tall and practically a teenager.

    • @user-bi8ko7kc6h
      @user-bi8ko7kc6h 3 месяца назад +2

      I was using the self check app in Sainsbury’s. A staff had to scan part of my basket then the scanner said full basket even nothing was wrong for the first scan and she wasn’t happy. So I asked her how about she cancels my order and I hand scan everything myself at the self scan till. She then shouted at me and threatened me that I’m going to be in big trouble if she catches me missing out one item in my basket. Of course I scanned everything. She scanned everything and left, no apology.

      I didn’t want to mention gender, as I knew I would be slated, but this was a 5ft tall young lady. She might well have had exceptional tact and diplomacy in dealing with tricky customers, and been a master of ten martial arts… I don’t know. To my mind, the head of security (male or female) should look at least look somewhat like they mean business and could take you down if you had two bottles of vodka down your trousers and were legging it!! This example happened in the same store but the security guard was nowhere to be seen and the thief got clean away.

      And the brazen violence and aggression used to do it is a sign of societal breakdown. It used to be a petty crime because it was nipped in the bud. People with a particular mind set- oh woe is me, nothing is my fault- start to pose a threat if not checked. No one in this country is left to starve. The problem with benefits is that it doesn't allow for none essentials. You can either eat, keep the lights on and have some heating or you can buy alcohol, cigs, drugs, nights out etc. You can't do both. And before anyone hits back, yes I have managed to live on benefits - with two small children. Not once did I commit a crime or blame anyone else for my situation. People need to take control of themselves and grow up.

      Yeah that's not at all what's happening. This is organised crime. They recruit drug addicts to shop lift for them and give them drugs or a small cut of the goods value. Then they sell the products online at 20% less than retail price.

    The local councils should roll out a combat strategy which consists of: branding the image of individuals who are known to be prolific shoplifters in the area, on public billboards.
    Which should contain details of their shoplifting offences.
    So have a huge poster of their face.
    With the following punchline headline:
    " ADVERTISING BOARD RESERVED EXCLUSIVELY FOR SHOPLIFTERS"
    (i think that's one way to make shoplifters think twice before breaking the law! 😬🤔🤔🤷🤷🤷)

      As bad and awful as the Tories are, this isn't a Tory issue. It is an issue of morals. What is a Tory issue is the fact that they have not invested in the police and justice system. The country clearly needs new prisons so that the courts can hand out serious sentences. Even if the money to build new prisons is available, the people themselves must accept that those prisons may be built in their locality.

    Police & Local Councils are responsible for commuinity safety. The Tories have defunded BOTH significantly. Met Police numbers cut by thousands and so the CCTV doesn't matter bcz these assholes know nothing will happen. LA funding cut by 40%. At the local Starbucks i frequent a man walks in there weekly, grabs sandwiches etc.. and just walks off- the staff are powerless! Eventually some of these stores close due to loss of hundreds per week to theft. Gosh, Britain, we need a reset 😔

  • @shadowisgonnakillya3047
    @shadowisgonnakillya3047 3 месяца назад

    This is due to the Crown Prosecution Service who won't pursue petty crimes such as shoplifting due to cuts to legal aid so they're not gonna pursue a prosecution over stealing stock not worth much as they see it as a waste of resources. This is increasingly becoming a problem. If the Justice System can't deal with those thefts then it should be left up to us to dispense justice but then that would mean the government admittingly losing control of law & order making their presence and the need of their presence obsolete.
    If the Tories ever get the boot we must make sure they will never be able to be in a position of power ever again.
