The “you’re not alive” stuff is, I think, the most important thing in this video The bully saying “you’re not alive” and the video telling you not to check if you’re alive makes it seem as if you’re not the person being scared by the dead guy, you ARE the dead guy scaring the people. And the bully is just a victim.
Honestly, I liked it. You don't actually feel "scared" but the tension slowly builds up as the video goes. In my personal experience, the sudden music stops and the subtle messages made me feel quite tense and I was all the time expecting some sort of jumpscare. Good job, dude!
i absolutely love this. Unlike most analogue horror, theres no jumpscares, disturbing disorted faces, nothing. A few creepy moments and it builds so much suspense that never gets released. This is what analogue horror should be
My theory is that when the tape is referring to bullies, its not just someone who decides to bully others, they're actually referring to a type of entity or creature that they had nicknamed bullies, and that they take the form of any human being, similarly to alternates in TMC. The "What not to do" segment could be referring to triggers that could cause the bully to break character and possibly become hostile
and when they say "bullies can come in all shapes and sizes" they could possibly be referring to them to being slender-like or their body being slightly deformed
I possibly think it's just that you aren't real you are in a dream wake up you are not alive, check your pulse you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it you won't feel it
vehemently disagree, I think the entire point is that these bullies aren’t even anything new, just the ones that might break the script/character of reality for you (by telling you that you’re not alive (either interpreted as this being a fake reality or a dream))
I think it's that the premise is that you're stuck in a dream or other unconscious state and whoever/whatever caused you to get stuck made this tape to convince you to ignore the signs from your subconscious ("bullies") telling you to wake up or that you aren't alive or whatever.
I think literally ignoring the bullies won't cause them to get bored . Everyone doesn't take silence the same way. The way I think it is, some people, especially bullies, take it as you having nothing to counter their argument, meaning they are correct and hence encouraging them to get bolder, knowing you aren't going to do anything anyways and I believe most people know how that ends up.
I like to say this: "If a person just wants to annoy someone, ignoring them will probably work. If a person wants to ruin _YOUR_ day, then ignoring them will just make their attempts more aggressive. Maybe if you patiently ignore them for like, several months it will work, but it's not worth the effort. If you really want to get rid of such person, make their every encounter with you leave them dissatisfied and maybe mad. No matter what you do, punch them, insult them the way it hurts, anything. As long as they feel like it's not worth the effort they'll stop. "

Even though this is an analog horror, I find it somewhat of a lesson to not hurt yourself if you are bullied. Have someone to talk to. There are people in this world that love you and will hear your every word. If you are being bullied, PLEASE have the courage to stand up against them.
Lmao except for all the people out there who get bullied and try to tell adults about it but just get blown off, and then you stand up to your bully and they just bully you even harder until you end up killing yourself. Idk if everyone who's like "oh bullying is such a serious issue uwu" in the comments missed the bully saying "You're not alive"??
This tape here was actually very good! It seems like a legit tape, no over-the-top glitches, looks like a cheesy video from the early 2000s, builds up horror in a subtle way while staying interesting at it’s core, and has a sense of humor. Although I found the ending to be underwhelming- the way I see it, there wasn’t really enough of a climax to make it truly horrifying. I don’t have any real advice to help you with this, since I’ve never done this myself (so I really don’t have a right to speak), but if you are looking to improve the ending, make sure to keep it realistic to not only the nature of the tape itself, but to reality too. The true horror comes in the everyday situations that can really happen, and while the titans like Gemini Home Entertainment, Mandela Catalogue, and of course Local 58 can pull it off, it’s because those creators know how to effectively utilize their skill and idea to create convincing horror. Not saying you shouldn’t try a supernatural type of thing with your tapes, but you have to really know what you’re doing to make it work! And by all means, I’m not saying you don’t have the skill! This tape is very well crafted and humble, in a sense. The ‘market’ for analogue horror has become saturated with all sorts of different tapes, so being someone who knows how to make a good one is really something to be proud of.
I feel like that's kinda the point. I mean, there is nothing really horrifying, the video is mostly about something normal, but told in a unsettling way. I feel like something "truly horriying" would destroy the concept behind it.

Although I would say that 'well it's analogue horror it's supposed to be super spooky!!' but I feel like that's arbitrary and a rather black-and-white way to look at it. I suppose that would depend on what the true purpose behind it was: to horrify or to unsettle? Either way, it's up to 404 Archives, and as long as they believe their tapes are how they want it to be, then who's really to say otherwise? (Which DOES completely invalidate my criticism above, I'm aware, but I feel like I should've asked them if they wanted to hear it instead of just saying it outright anyways ^^'.)

And checking pulse breaks the illusion?). But it woulda been nice to have something more climatic, to hit home that there is SOMETHING to fear.

One of the most hurtful things a bully ever said to me that still lingers with me to this day is ''Your Jordans are fake as fuck''. It's a wound that has never fully healed and every time I remember it, I tear it back open just enough to undo any process I may have done in healing.

Something I think is great is the audio. Lazy creators and amateurs only put the grain filter on the video and call it a day. Usually they use sounds that were never used on tapes. Also the absolute shitty quality you can hear from the tape scratching and being used is excellent. A lot of people forget that analogue horror is more than a grain filter and some minor spooks. Kudos to you!
the expectancy was entirely there, even though it was the most scary part of the entire video, "you are not alive" feels like it's still rising the tension, not concluding it. that sense of dread as it grows longer and longer waiting for it to get worse, only for no large occurrence leaves a cold, scared feeling that feels like the tension builds even after the video is long completed

I liked it! It was subtle, which I really appreciate. It also looked really believable as being an old video instead of obviously fake like a lot I've seen. And I was absolutely bobbing along to the music. Very cool and I hope you continue with the series! 💜
I gotta say this is interesting,most analogue horrors are about supernatural things and they also try to terrify you,but this is something else,not only is this message about an actual problem in real life but you deliver this message in a very unsettling way almost as if it was not talking about actual bullies but who knows I’m sure the community could figure something out , also not to say that this isn’t scary this is in a whole league of its own and I would love to see where it will go from here. I’m pointing this out. When the girl responds to the bully, the bully is replaced with her, which makes the things she says feel like they have a deeper meaning. “I don’t care what you say”, “Your words mean nothing”, it sounds scarier and deeper when she’s talking to herself. Maybe she has schizophrenia or something. Just a theory.
Or she even just hates herself, self hatred leads to this, saying that you are wrong about yourself is a well designed way to say "hating yourself will lead to nothing"

this is a nice video, it doesn’t feel TOO overt but it’s still unsettling. It feels like a generic anti-bullying video made by someone who’s not right in the head. Good job!
I believe it is talking about a creature that they refer to as bullies. It goes into detail like “Be aware at all times,” and “Children believe bullies are in… but that’s not true, bullies are everywhere.” The way it says “You’re not alive” is very scary aswell.. It also tells you to “strictly avoid” doing simple things. It makes it seem like it is referring to a “human bully” but also a scary creature that people simply call “bullies”..
I like the idea behind this one!! At first I thought bullies was a term for some kind of entity. But the idea of dead people coming alive and not handling the fact they're dead very well is super interesting. Well done!!

people who interpreted this as not scary, i want to say why this video unsettled me. having messages communicated to you from the outside world while you're dreaming is a common thing most of us experience. if someone tries to wake you up by calling your name, you process this noise but don't wake up, sometimes you dream the exact same noise coming from someone in your dream. but in this video, instead of dreaming, it's death. since we don't know anything about what it's like, you can't help but think "what if this video is true. what if i am dead?" it makes me want to actually check my pulse, but also makes me hesitate because of what would happen if I come to the realisation that I'm actually not alive.
I do really appreciate being a bit more subtle with the "music cuts out" thing - only deleting a few elements on screen, or a few instrumental tracks while you can still feel a bit of the music in the back, makes it feel that much more uncomfortable.
The sad part is that most people do not know that bullying is everywhere and the fact that anyone can bully. This is from what some experts assume but it’s 100% true
This was a very good tape, not super scary but eerie and interesting. I noticed that the most unsettling parts came from the black text. I think what happened was a little girl (because the girl is always the one getting bullied in the example parts of the vid) was bullied, but died. When she came back as a ghost or something, people told her she wasn't alive anymore but she couldn't accept it and thought that they were bullies because what they said made her feel bad, just like what the bullies' bullying made her feel.
technically well-done. you nailed the vibe of analog horror quite well. i'd like to see you continue. if i can give one criticism, it's that it doesn't give enough story-wise. the threat is too nebulous and too similar to what's already out right now. maybe this is a brainwashing video by a cult targeting kids. you can correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think that's been done yet. it could use something a bit more sinister.
I honestly really like it. As someone who grew up with that style of film (not analog but whatever) it just reminded me of how useless those anti-bullying psas were. I think that’s the real horror.

I remember being 90s kid and seeing a lot of anti-bullying content so this hits home. The aesthetic alone is amazing. Are we gonna tackle any other playground topics?
Im not sure where this will go but it is clear to me that the "bullies" talked about in this video are definitely some kind of super natural creature. And there is some kind of connection between the "bullies" and being alive since you are told not to do anything that would allow you to check if your alive.
I personally think the video is meant to be watched by ghosts, or people who mistakenly believe they are alive when they are not, and the "bully" just wants you to realize that you are dead. So the video wants you to stay in denial.

I believe it is talking about a creature that they refer to as bullies. It goes into detail like “Be aware at all times,” and “Children believe bullies are in… but that’s not true, bullies are everywhere.” The way it says “You’re not alive” is very scary aswell..
It also tells you to “strictly avoid” doing simple things. It makes it seem like it is referring to a “human bully” but also a scary creature that people simply call “bullies”..

having messages communicated to you from the outside world while you're dreaming is a common thing most of us experience. if someone tries to wake you up by calling your name, you process this noise but don't wake up, sometimes you dream the exact same noise coming from someone in your dream. but in this video, instead of dreaming, it's death. since we don't know anything about what it's like, you can't help but think "what if this video is true. what if i am dead?" it makes me want to actually check my pulse, but also makes me hesitate because of what would happen if I come to the realisation that I'm actually not alive.

I do really appreciate being a bit more subtle with the "music cuts out" thing - only deleting a few elements on screen, or a few instrumental tracks while you can still feel a bit of the music in the back, makes it feel that much more uncomfortable.
This was a little different than most analog horror but I still really liked it. Hope to see more!

This was a very good tape, not super scary but eerie and interesting.
I noticed that the most unsettling parts came from the black text.
I think what happened was a little girl (because the girl is always the one getting bullied in the example parts of the vid) was bullied, but died. When she came back as a ghost or something, people told her she wasn't alive anymore but she couldn't accept it and thought that they were bullies because what they said made her feel bad, just like what the bullies' bullying made her feel.
The scariest things when signing off in a video is like saying see you tomorrow or see you at home cause wow

Some of the information was actually good for standing up to bullies but then there was just subtle messages which was perfect
technically well-done. you nailed the vibe of analog horror quite well. i'd like to see you continue. if i can give one criticism, it's that it doesn't give enough story-wise. the threat is too nebulous and too similar to what's already out right now.

Im not sure where this will go but it is clear to me that the "bullies" talked about in this video are definitely some kind of super natural creature. And there is some kind of connection between the "bullies" and being alive since you are told not to do anything that would allow you to check if your alive.
I personally think the video is meant to be watched by ghosts, or people who mistakenly believe they are alive when they are not, and the "bully" just wants you to realize that you are dead. So the video wants you to stay in denial.
