This was one of the most interesting takes on Batman we've had over the past couple of years
I am still keeping my save Deta on my switch for when one day they do a third one with the court of owls as the next bad guys
@@comicbookreviewer4856 That's gonna be amazing if they do the court of owls storyline.
fortnite zero point batman comic book
for me it was BvS, i liked the fallen batman idea, but god that movie was rushed
@@thesimpledude186 I love BvS because it's a different Batman who was broken by Dick's death breaking his code and I like that. What did you think of the Ultimate edition of BvS?
Thank you for addressing the reductive Batman “hot takes”. They never sat right with me and you basically nailed why. People go out of their way to miss the very premise.
I didn’t even know that was a thing
When you didn't get canceled for calling people "stupid cunts", there was a lot less people acting like stupid cunts.
Just sayin'
but why doesn't he just kill the villains
@@user-fn2nk9go5f From my understanding, the 2 reasons given are: 1 kill spirals into making Batman a serial killer (because mental instability), and/or Batman is determined (some would say stubborn) in believing pretty much anyone can be redeemed, which may or may not be true, but you certainly won't find the criminally insane or otherwise redeemed sending them to what is usually an outdated and corrupt facility that's essentially a super prison with no interest in rehabilitation (I'd actually like to see a story where Bruce is able to successfully use his fortune to renovate Arkham to assist with his mission as Batman, making Gotham a safer place while also seeing what becomes of his Rogue's Gallery)
TLDR: He spirals out of control or really believes they can be saved with enough effort
Side Note: I know I probably sound pretty negative in this reply, but I honestly really enjoy Batman's character despite of these details that could be considered writing flaws, or interesting flaws within Batman's stories
@@SubSero_he did help save clay face, Mr freeze, Harley and Ivy (kinda I guess), man-bat, two face (in the dark knight returns, I believe), kite man and some others, I remember it being mentioned that his limo driver is a reformed criminal. So he’s not completely wrong on the reformed part.
There’s also the matter of if he kills he’ll be alienated from the police department as Jim Gordon mentions in the killing joke ( a story that originally had a vague ending that implied Batman killed the joker, even if it was soft retconned ).
I do like a version of Batman where he’s driven by making amends for his family name. It shows that at the end of the day Bruce is a good person and despite how previous generations behave that doesn’t reflect who you are and only you have the power to make things better.
He is a good person even in the interpretations where his parents are good people
Amen to all that
he's a good person every time he's actually Batman the only time he's not a good person is when he's poorly written

@@baligong3592 joker, killer croc, Mr.Freeze, clayface, two face, etc. Most of these aren't poor but are mentally ill.
@@shinyagumon7015 the thing that people who are not familiar with Batman focus on is that his wealth is still ridiculously huge. So they think that he might not be doing enough, that he's just spending all his money on Batman. Even though that's not true and stories go out of their way to show that he is a different kind of rich.
What they don't realize that his wealth is actually very much a superpower on itself. It's his responsibility the same way Spiderman's powers are. It works with a comic book logic, as his wealth is endless. Obviously if Batman was real, Bruce would lose his money considering how much he spends on improving the city, helping the poor and Batman. But this isn't a real world, so people should chill.
@@KvngLeroy1
Some are Mentally Ill, sure, but their actions are still horrendous and shouldn't be defendable.
Imagine children being kidnapped and being mutilated to become a "cute" little Doll, like DollMaker. Imagine being a Cop and having to deal with an 11ft tall Crocodile looking Human, knowing he cannibalises anyone he finds. Imagine the entire City being held Hostage and the way to stop it is by Solving Complex Puzzles and Riddles within a Matter of short period Time, just because someone wants to flex their genius to everyone.
Like I said, no Batman villain should be excused of their action just because they're mentally ill. How many people would actually not give a Damn Joker is mentally ill and would prefer him dead? Not to mention the fact that these Criminals go beyond what a Police could handle.
Seeing how Telltale isn’t completely dead yet, I hope they have a chance to continue the story.

The most underrated Batman adaptation EVER. And John Doe might be my favorite take on Joker
Personally I prefer the Batman tas joker
yess agreed!
As much as I didn't like Joker's eventual decline into a murderer, at least by the end of it, it seemed like Bruce still wanted to be his friend.
it certainly was such a unique take. Seeing the man right before he became the monster. WIth Bruce (ironicly) being the only one trying to legit help him. Also great voice actor. Love how he pronounces "rude"
Harley Quinn and the Joker’s roles being swapped was also one of the more interesting part of it for me
Season 2 was really fun. It introduced a lot of Batman villains in their own creative ways. You can dictate how the final episode will go depending on your interactions with a certain character. And when I mean that, I mean you get a drastically different final episode with its own narrative. Even within the two unique episodes they have some minor changes depending on you what you do and what happened.
I agree season 2 was my favorite, however there were some things that bugged me like, why couldn't Batman (or Bruce) have told Gordon that He was undercover and that Batman was staying out of it because if Batman showed right as they were doing stuff it would look to suspicious, or why you couldn't just tell Tiffany outright that you were undercover stuff like that but overall the game was amazing and season 2 was the best, hopefully we get a season 3 and a Wolf Among us 2.
@@JakNasty69 he didn’t tell Gordon anything bc he was scared that he’d piece it together and figure out he’s Batman, Alfred warned him that too many people knew already

This is super random, but you know what series would make a really good Telltale Game? Scooby Doo.
I just really think the atmosphere and game mechanics would be perfectly for Scooby Doo. So many Telltale game plot are built around mysteries so it's already a perfect fit and while the game guides you through the mystery, your choices can drive the character interactions between the Scooby Gang. You could end the game with the gang as even greater friends or as resentful former friends.
And in the vain of Mystery Incorporated, I think a more villainous and murderous bad guy would fit this game's plot. Like it'll still be a bad guy in a mask but the monster would look really scary and commit some serious crimes. If they all want to go all out they could even have multiple monsters with the Gang working their way up to uncover a conspiracy. The first episodes can focus on unmaking underling monsters with the real mastermind monster being the final opponent.
If Telltale can take an established character like Batman and rework his lore into a new yet familiar feeling experience, they could totally do the same with the Scooby Gang. And like I said, the mystery elements of the tv show would fit perfectly with the gritty, noir aesthetic Telltale games thrive on.
I'd like to see that happen!😁😉
Now that's an idea I can get behind!
Great idea!
This is a great idea but do TellTale even exist anymore? I thought they filed for bankruptcy and closed down.
It could absolutely happen, but is telltale breathing anymore

There’s a slight chance it may happen, there have been a few development teams that originated from Telltale and have made their own studios to continue the Walking Dead in its final season. It’s not a great big chance, but it’s a chance
It could still happen. Telltale is up and running again and they teased a season 3 a couple times.
Telltale is kind of back, and their only IPs left are this and Wolf Among Us. Wolf Among Us 2 is confirmed, so unless they get another IP, it might be coming after that.

That's why characters change as time goes on, not one famous superhero is exactly the same as their first outing.
Batman is like that in every interpretation of the character. He doesnt beat the poor and the mentally ill. He beats up hardcore psychopaths. The "he beats the poor and the mentally ill" is a hot take that comes from people.who want to look smart but know nothing about his character. Batman beats up the same kind of criminals that Spiderman or Captain America beats up. He doesnt go out of his way to beat up poor people
@@masamune2984 you shouldn't judge batman from his early days. He wasn't well defined yet and his character was basically a blank slate that future writers took and built up to be the character he is today.

this comment aged remarkably well
@SirBlackReeds it ended up doing it anyways
The rework of the origin is god tier, Bruce fighting so hard to fix Gotham because his parents thrived in the crime city unbenounced to him, justifies alot of his actions in my mind, a bit like Bucky goin back and undoing what Hydra made The Winter Soldier do. He has an actual reason to be crippling the criminals and "mentally ill" when they have soured the reputation of Gotham like his parents and may have even benefitted from a move that they made.
So many of my friends hated this just because of how they handled his parents and characters like Cobblepot. Whereas I really liked the refreshing take on things
I immediately liked the Cobblepot much more than any of the other versions and felt genuinely attachted to Harvey throughout. Neither were perfect and had plenty of flaws but it was just nice to see something a little different from the norm. And outside of elseworld stories Martha and Thomas aren't really characters in my eyes.
I also loved how you can prevent Harvey's disfigurement but he still becomes Two Face, just internally. It shows that the scars only accelerated the process. Harvey is severely mentally ill, and its so sad to see his sickness consume him
@@puffpuffpassmako I dunno. I kinda always disliked that. His mental illness gets accelerated anyway due to the drugs, and he goes full Two-Face anyway. So it doesn't matter who you save at the end of the day; Selina or Harvey. If that's the case, why make it a choice at all? I would've preferred not being able to stop Harvey's scarring in exchange for making a choice that had an actual consequence or effect on the story.
I always end up chosing to save Selina even though I love Harvey. It makes later events make far more sense, and makes it feel as if my choices have some kind of consequence.
@@Birthday888 I guess these choices were supposed to matter in the next season of the game
@@Shift_Salt - I also liked the Telltale Cobblepot, but he felt much more like a fusion between *Black Mask* and *Hush* than the regular Penguin.
Childhood friend with Bruce, also from one of the OG rich Gotham families, has an axe to grind with the Waynes, wears a mask/helmet to hide his identity, mommy issues, etc etc...
They made Oswald slim to look more like his *Gotham* counterpart which I appreciated (gotta love Robin Lord Taylor), but he acted & looked more like his bastard son Ethan "Blacksun" Cobblepot (a fairly recent Batgirl rogue) than any version of Oswald I've seen.
This is one of the best takes on Batman I’ve ever seen. The twist on his parents not being innocent blew my mind when I first played it and I loved how it affected Bruce and his motivation to be Batman going forward. The little twists on the characters were always interesting and fresh. The 2nd game is great as well and also added a fresh new take on a certain character. Wish we could get a 3rd Telltale Batman game.
It's a shame you didn't mention the biggest change, John
I love how they did his character, it's interesting to see how his role is reversed from his regular depictions

I think what especially bothers me about how often everyone pulls this ‘lol what if Batman is actually bad’ hot take is that Alan Moore literally beat them to the punch 40 years ago when he made Watchmen. Literally the entire point of Rorschach is to show that a real Batman would be bad LOL
Isn't Rorschach suppose to be the Question?

@@Sneedmire Yeah. Watchmen’s Batman is Night Owl.
@@tommydemise4077 I read this a long time ago so this info could be inaccurate, but I think Night Owl was actually inspired by Blue Beetle (the Ted Kord version) despite looking more like Batman.
@@Sneedmire the question is already extremely right wing
I mean, Ozymandias is probably the closest to Batman. He even got "being seen as gay" part.
The games told out some of the bad past of Bruce Wayne’s father and that was very cool
I hope you cover season 2. I think that it had the strongest Joker in a while. We don’t really get to know who he is, his name literally being John Doe, but we get to see him become the Joker. I love that he builds relationships with Bruce and Batman. As someone sick of the clown it was a serious breath of fresh air to actually care about the guy for once.

He was definitely being more likable humble and open with others in personality in this one. Now THAT'S the Batman/Bruce Wayne I remember!
One thing I like about TellTale Batman is that the reveal of the Waynes being corrupt has no cop out resolution like in The Batman where Alfred is like "oh, no, your parents were totally good guys, they were just afraid." No, the Waynes in TellTale were scum, through and through, and it reinforces the idea that Bruce's actions as both the CEO of Wayne Enterprises and the Batman is his way of cleaning his family name.
You know there are actually several stories that portray Thomas Wayne as a pretty sh*ty person but this games probably the first to have Bruce actually confront this fact surprisingly
which one's other then the joker movie
Definitely one of my favorite adaptations of the character. Hopefully they come back with more seasons!
They just might finally make S3 after they're done making S2 of TWAU.
Without spoiling anything about Season 2, the team did work on the whole Two-Face problem, even making two different versions of the final episode to let your choices have a real impact on the story.
So if I save Harvey he won’t turn into one face (that’s what I call normal crazy Harvey)
the overall episode is different but it still comes to the conclusion of John (joker) gradually becoming even more insane and going to prison no matter what you do. The way they handled it however is very interesting.
Season 2 of Telltale's Batman is my third favorite Telltale season behind The Walking Dead Season 1 and Tales From the Borderlands. What they do with Joker and Harley Quinn is incredible
Played game of thrones or guardians of the galaxy by any chance ? If so are they any good ?
@@T_995 game of thrones was pretty good, but Guardians was disappointing imo. They were trying too hard to be the movies instead of doing something new with it

"Never trust anyone who's Alfred had an eye patch." Oh man, the Best Friends Zaibatsu are super serial killers then. Punished Alfred is sick as shit though.
Of course they are, have you seen the Human Revolution LP?
Most superheroes have bad or broken homes with maladjusted parents in some way. The thing that makes Superman and Batman stand out is that they have benefited from having parents who loved and nurtured them, acting as an inspiration in their absence.
I get the feeling that the way writers obsess over characters with abusive parents isn't just because its easy boil-in-the-bag character development, but also out of a sense of spite due to their own parental issues. it ties into the issues twitter "people" have with Batman's wealth or Superman's power.
Being a present, loving parent is an integral virtue of the human animal, and the onus of being the recipient of parental love encourages a person to show that same love to their own children. Being the recipient of any blessing in life is a pressure to give back what you have received to others. Clark has the love of the Kents and their good moral judgement, and Bruce has the determination and prestige the Waynes gave him. This should inspire the reader to become better people, and ultimately better parents in their own right. Neurotics see these characters and feel nothing but envy and inadaquacy.
Don't be like Twitter. Stay the fuck away from Twitter.
Play Season 2. It has some really cool ideas.

Its like those twitter wokes purposely ignore that Batman has other villains besides the Joker. If their hypothesis was correct then how do they account for guys like Ra's Al Ghul?
What i like about Telltale‘s Batman is that they actually took time to make Batman and Bruce Wayne 2 different personalities and not just a mask someone else is wearing, which usually is Batman wearing Bruce Wayne as a mask. But this time, it‘s like with Daredevil. You have the buisness man that can take care of things in one way and the superhero in a different way anf both with different results! That’s something i haven’t seen in a LONG time! It’s usually just always Batman, only using his Bruce Wayne persona for the fame and acess and that’s it.

I really hope we get more of telltale’s Batman story somehow.
Wishful thinking
@@brucesmith2143 I know. :(
I’m all for a different take on a well established character, after like 80 years of Batman we can try some new things. This game is a good example of that. Also, Troy Baker is great as both Batman and The Joker, I really want to see something where he voices both simultaneously.
He voices both in the Batman/TMNT crossover movie!
Eh, his Joker is just an impression of Mark Hamill, and not exactly a great one. Seriously, he's basing his impression off of what Mark Hamill sounds like now instead of a younger Mark Hamill.
The idea of Batman as a rich bully is such a surface level, reductive take that it can really only work as a worn out joke. There are so many versions where Bruce Wayne is a philanthropist and Batman wants to see the good in his villains. He doesn't *enjoy* beating the shit out of Riddler, he does it because if he doesn't, Riddler is going to kill people.
The designs from this iteration are on point. Especially that chameleon Batmobile.
This is rather Ironic because this is the second Batman video that's sponsored by a wallet company with him even making the same joke of the wallet coming in black.

Despite being a Telltale fan, I haven’t really taken the time to play their version of the Dark Knight, so it’s nice to learn more about this thing I’ve been missing out on.
No wonder he had the whole segment about how in the end your choices don’t matter, he hasent played the second game. Probably also why he didn’t talk about John, because I would REALLY love to see what he thinks of John. Technically he’s still joker either way but, depending on how you treat him your relationship WILL change. I happened to get the best ending because I simp for John.
I though his Joker segment on how if Bruce had done something it could have been different was a John reference, but he doesn’t know, and I’m just too obsessed with John.
I think one of the dialogue options perfectly sums up your conclusion on Telltale Batman’s character development:
“I loved my father, but nothing can excuse what he did. I stand before you as my own man. Heir not to the Wayne family legacy, but to Gotham’s.”
And yeah, if you love the story dynamic of Season 1, Season 2 takes it to a whole other level.

Stellar Analysis my friend! I loved the Telltale universe and really enjoyed the freshness of it all, as well as the little touches. I can't wait to see your thoughts on how this series handled a certain character, but I won't spoil that for you!
Great video as usual!
Season 2 is a HUGE step up. For one thing, for the only time the original (non-revived) Telltale pulled off, your choices MATTER. The final episode can be two entirely different stories depending on how your choices affected John Doe in his evolution towards being The Joker. Either way he’s a villain, but it’s up to the decisions you make as Bruce and as Batman whether he tries to be a hero and fails, or if he simply lets the darkness envelop him. John Doe is a PHENOMENAL take on The Joker, allowing his origin to be “multiple choice” by way of the different decisions you can make and how it impacts the other people in the story. He’s a compelling, tragic figure (better done than the Joker movie in my book) that I think hits a lot of similar notes to Doc Ock in Marvel’s Spider-Man because, like in that game, you know you can’t stop his transformation but the story really makes you want to try.
I say season 2 has the most choices in telltale with episode 5 having two entirely different paths with your choices, like they made 2 separate episodes because of your choices
I thought that was Hitop films during the ad
Good video, I think this is well made and discusses something I think about as well. I especially like the addition of the scene in 18:15, as that (I think movie) was something I really liked to watch back then. That scene in particular was what made me realize Batman’s humanity.
Really hope you review Season 2 of the game. This version of the joker is one of the most interesting takes since the Arkham games
7:06 Yo I freaked out when I realized there was a hi top films cameo lol
Same lmao
What you said about the choices not mattering is facts. I stopped Harvey from becoming 2 face, and he still became 2 face just without the scars. Oh you actually brought this up
So this is basically “The Batman” before “The Batman.”
I wonder what Telltale Poison Ivy would be like. 🤔
I'm not sure but hopefully she wouldn't be watered down to just "a lady that just controls plants" Ivy is a seductress now don't get me wrong you don't have to dress slutty and all that to be a seductress but hopefully they add some kind of sexiness or something like that.
@@JakNasty69 Why not make her the ring leader of a black widow organization? It's members marry wealthy environmental offenders, subtly off them, take their life insurance & channel it all into Ivy's private, offshore account she uses to fund their eco terrorist activities. Some of it set aside for her botanical experiments, creating monstrous flytraps & cactus mutants (TAS reference) to serve them. Appearance wise I'm leaning towards her Daphne Demeter look from TAS in her college professor/lecturer day time life & her original, Silver Age appearance when Batman goes to confront her. I'd also include the whole obsessive stalker aspect of Poison Ivy's character we've never seen outside the comics. Either Bats agrees to join her or he's mulch.
@@alexlemonds2838 didn’t a similar plot line take place in The animated series?
@@andreahope7254 Yes, but, this time it's just regular women & men. Not plant creatures. Also, that was a one time scheme. Whereas my hypothetical Telltale Ivy's been doing this for YEARS. Her black widow ring is spread throughout the entire world.
I recently recall my sister saying to me “I say a really funny tweet that said Batman’s only real power is white privilege” I had never been so goddamn annoyed over a fictional character in my life
Wow
Glad to see you making a video on this
I like how the random coin flips are actually random
Super underrated Batman. Hope this series comes back!
I would definitely recommend playing Season 2 as soon as you can, all the stuff you said here is massively improved...
I absolutely love telltale batman, it's probably my all time favourite incarnation of the character alongside "The Batman" cartoon from the 2000's and the Arkham games. So much of what I like about batman and expect of his characters are from these two telltale games. I really hope you do a review for season 2.
This is one of my favorite depictions of Batman, love it
You should really play season 2, so you can do a video analysis on their version of the Joker. I love how they reimagined him
You have to play Season 2! Different UI, runs smoother, little to no glitches, brilliant reimaginings of some characters, and a refreshing story. Can’t recommend it enough. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
I love the telltale Batman games, they offer such a good take on Batman and his story, Gotham and the people
Great video man! I hope that you do a video on season 2, if you really liked season 1 then you will definitely enjoy season 2.
I think one of the things which makes the nature of batman's actions as a white dude in a battle armor beating people up turn up so much is that it's very ambiguous concept thematically and has allowed for different writers to explore it in different ways. Sometimes for better... and for worse. So in some instances you get the development of Bruce Wayne as a person and within that, moments (in the better part of most cases) where he gets stripped of his tech and his wealth, and we get to see how he succeeds not just because he's a very skilled and resiliant person but also because he usually gets help from his allies and family that he has cultivated over the years as a good man and a leader, turning a very individualist idea of "the dark knight" into a healthier, more fullfilling spirit of achieving succes through community and family instead of brute force or gadgets.
Other times tho, there's the other interpretation - which you can´t really say is _incorrect_ either, because then again, batman is a thematically ambiguous concept -, where Bruce is everything from a psycho, to a fascist, to an abuser. Also all of these have been written at some point by Frank Miller. You get the ocational de construction like in the Killer Joke, but then its stripped from its subtitly and gets milked like what happenned with Three Jokers.
In my opinion, you can't really have Batman still exist without acknowledging what defines his character. In today's era, where capitalism is bringing the world down, systemic attacks against communities is at an all time-high and rich people get rich thanks to people's suffering, Batman simply cannot exist the same way he did back in the 40s. Yet that doesn´t mean he can´t still be _a hero_ . I believe the current run has reinvented him as a street vigilante going against the Gotham goverment which has turned into a police state, while Luke Fox (the son of the dude who is actually responsible for Bruce's tech in many iterations) takes up the official mantle, which i think is great and an interesting re start for the character.
Bruce Wayne looks a lot like Sterling Archer in the telltale games but even still I love it.
I think it's cool how Bruce looks sorta like Archer.

season 2 is geniuanly the best thing telltale pulled off period🙌🏾. Like it just strengthens all the positives that you just mentioned focuses on the duality between batman and bruce and ur choices acc visibly change how some characters end up. Geniuanly love it.
I don’t understand why penguin has to be this skinny lil British boi but I like his design with the bird-like gas mask and suit
You really should play season 2, the final episode is completely different based on your choices. There are basically two final episodes.
If all these people who mindlessly shit on "problematic" media actually went after really problematic media or even real life problems the world would he so much better. These people care more about sounding smart than about actually changing the world for the better.
7:50 I'll never un-see that now...
That smooth transition into a sponsor ad is so freaking good🤣
Thank you so much for tackling the whole batman beats up the homeless twitter bs that gets recycled every week.
fucking sick of seeing those tweets every single time
I really love everything about Telltale's Batman, but what I find most interesting is they're interpretation to the Joker.
that was the smoothest transition into an ad for a sponsor i've ever seen
This does seem like a pretty neat take on the batman mythos. I always love seeing worlds like this one or the dark knight, more lowkey stories.
I've played walking dead, wolf among us, and batman. I thoroughly enjoyed all 3. I really like a story focused game if it's done well. And I like tough moral choices.
