As a violinist, the 1st part is challenging enough but to sing it is beyond description. Amazing voice quality and virtuosic technique matched by an inner and outer beauty. Way to go Kathryn

From the heart of a lonely poet
Came a song for the girl he adored
Though she tried very hard not to show it
    She was terribly, terribly bored
But then the poet asked her|if she'd like one
    And her eyes shone
    And the moon shone
    And the stars shone
    Above them
As they waltzed|through the evening together
    They were swaying
To the music of enchanted violins
He held her and told her he'd love her
Till the moon faded above her
As they waltzed|though she tried not to show it
She was certain she'd fallen before
    And her eyes shone
    And the moon shone
And the stars shone above her
As they waltzed|through the evening together
    They were swaying
To the music of enchanted violins
The spell of the waltz was upon them
And the stardust sprinkled on them
As they waltzed,|though she tried not to show it
You could see in her eyes a light
And it shone with the love for the poet
As they waltzed through the thrill|of the night"

She is a beautiful artist; ;and what a gem for MGM - her acting, her humor, her talent. She could make sense of the most far out stories - and strange songs - they always seemed just right with her presence. I love that when her time was over, she went right into teaching with a healthy attitude. One of my favorites, obviously!

If you look at her face 3 or 4 seconds right before she starts to sing she her look changes as she mentally prepares to sing. It's like a look of supreme confidence. I have seen her do this many times in different songs and I always thought it was very endearing.

Absolutely beautiful. Kathryn Grayson had beauty, talent, and class up at the most outstanding levels. She represents an older time before pop, rock, and the turning of the more modern age, and watching her really makes me feel like I'm looking at a whole different world, which it was in the 1940s. I love mid to late 1940s and early 1950s color films such as with great old icons like Grayson, Esther Williams, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante, Cyd Cherrise, Ann Miller, and the first films of Elizabeth Taylor

OK. So I realize that there are a couple of posts out here that address the lyrics to this song. Unfortunately, they are all Incorrect! I have taken the liberty to make a correction and post the correct lyrics. They are as follows:
WALTZ SERENADE (As vocalized by Kathryn Grayson in the film, “Anchors Aweigh”)
From the heart of a lonely poet
Came a song for the girl he adored
Though she tried very hard not to show it
    She was terribly, terribly bored
But then the poet asked her if she'd like to waltz
    And her eyes shone
    And the moon shone
    And the stars shone
    Up Above
As they waltzed through the evening together
    They were swaying
To the music of enchanted violins
He held her and told her he'd love her
Till the moon faded above her
    (Operatic interlude)
As they waltzed though she tried not to show it
She was certain she'd fallen in love.
    (Operatic interlude)
    And her eyes shone
    And the moon shone
And the stars shone above her
As they waltzed through the evening together
    They were swaying
To the music of enchanted violins
The spell of the waltz was upon them
And the stardust sprinkled on them
    (Operatic interlude)
As they waltzed, though she tried not to show it
You could see in her eyes a light
And it shone with the love for the poet
As they waltzed through the thrill of the night"
    (Operatic interlude)

According to my Mom, when I was between the ages of two and three, I earnestly informed her - while looking at Kathryn Grayson's photo on an album of 78s (“Anchors Aweigh” I believe) - that I “will marry her” one day. Kathryn was then 26 years my senior. You could say I've always had this thing for older women!
A few years before her death I sent Ms Grayson a fan letter noting this fact. She was at that time associated with a university music program in Boise Idaho. I may have said, “No need to reply” and graciously . . . she did not. If we meet in heaven I shall request “Waltz Serenade” from that movie - surely the best-ever operatic, coloratura (highest of the sopranos) performance on the 'Silver Screen.' (Which is to say, My favorite - yours too?)
Thanks, "bruno mortier" for sharing. Celebrated this night at Sinatra Family - Forum - "Siriusly Sinatra" - MY FAVORITE VERSION, YOURS TOO? sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/50225-My-Favorite-Version-%28yours-too-%29?p=1279287#post1279287

OMG-- If a live-action musical film of "Snow White" was ever cast....
Anyway, the MGM Technicolor was something to behold back then. And the beauty of coloratura Kathryn Grayson was its perfect subject. Wonder if this was a real screen test for Grayson- it is a scene-within-the movie of "Anchors Aweigh," but it looks genuine, with all the different angles and such. Well done.

You‘re mistaken. Hers was a classically trained voice, and this style of singing still is in fashion. The fact that an even larger number of people tend to something as gruesome and inferior as - for example - rap doesn‘t mean that they have better taste. On the contrary. It only shows the reign of quantity over quality as often happens.
Of course you have the right to your own opinion. But making it public might provoke responses you aren‘t exactly happy with. That‘s a risk everybody takes with their comments…
