      I Imagen the bridges are independent star ships moveing around the interer. Joined to the ship by the discovery's protomater interface. Ship insides probably look like viger, ship saposedly to the same size scale. So the old viger footage from the original show could be reused. Only a enterprises discover, or vengeance saucer section is hovering in, and on a pool of protomater interface instead of the viger/ voyager model. Posibly with several human, with the sensore on the next. That spock mind melded with.

    • @obsidiansands
      @obsidiansands 5 лет назад +35

      A "mobile starbase" that is FLAT as a pancake and incorrectly sized in STO as well. For a "mobile starbase", it sure is small. My Vengeance class and Chrono Dreadnought ship are helluva lot thicker than the Universe class. There are a lot of people bragging about owning it in the game. There's also a lot of us that hate it as well. It's badly designed in a visual aspect. The windows are too large, etc. I once parked my T6 Oddy on top of it and even did a size comparison - Cryptic screwed up by making the ship small and not 1/1. I can understand a little why they did it - a ship that huge would dwarf Earth Spacedock and make it look puny.
      It's also slow as fuck.

    The way I like to put it is that the Enterprise-J is "ALMOST a great design." The general shape and proportions are really good, especially considering how big the darn thing is supposed to be. But you can tell that it was a rush-job slapped together for a single episode on short notice. I'm sure that if given some more time, Drexler could have refined the design into something really amazing. I know because I've seen versions tweaked by fans that look really, REALLY good.

    I imagine that the J would be similar to the advanced shuttle the Enterprise found that was larger on the inside than the outside. It would have a strange look to it, and wouldnt make much sense to people 500 years in the past. Nothing 500 years in the future can look comparable to the day's current technology.
    It would be 'alien' for sure...even magical!

      That time capsule in ENT was from like the 31st century or something, the enterprise J is from the 26th. It wouldn't be alien or magical to current star fleet at all, it would be like Scotty walking around the enterprise D. The Relativity was from the 29th century (built 300+ years after the enterprise J) and wasn't alien or magical to 7 or Janeway. Not just using star fleet ships as examples we have come across alien ships hundreds sometimes thousands of years more advanced the stuff current star fleet had and it didn't seem magical.
      I honestly don't think anything would be surprising to star fleet at this point. They have encountered god like beings like Kevin and Q and advanced alien races like the Voth who are thousands of years more advanced then they are.
      We're not talking about cave men here.

  • @adsilcott
    @adsilcott 5 лет назад +25

    Maybe an unpopular opinion but I really like the J. Its spindly pylons help to convey the enormous size of its saucer, and hint at the advanced technology that holds the ship together (one of the things I've always loved about Star Trek star ships is that they've always looked like they could only exist in zero-G and with advanced materials), and its size fits with the idea of a ship that would be exploring and colonizing other galaxies (its nacelles are actually longer than the total length of any other enterprise). It's supposed to be unusual and almost unbelievable because it's from the far future, and it does a great job of that.

    Would be awesome to have a new proper Star Trek series set in the far future on the Enterprise J. Lets get to know a new crew. Lets inspire a new generation. From what was revealed about future tech in Star Trek Enterprise, the ship must have a massive amount of room located in subspace, self-repairing armor, energy deflecting/absorbing structures, phasing cloak, and a transwarp drive. Who knows how powerful it's weapons systems are.

  • @oldtimefarmboy617
    @oldtimefarmboy617 5 лет назад +2

    In the original series, the warp core took up most of the engineering section. They also meet a group of extra-galactic travelers that wanted to use the Enterprise to get back home to their home galaxy. During that show, after most of the crew were turned into cubes that could be turned back into living crewmen when needed, they , in their attempt to get Kirk and his command staff to cooperate with them, showed Scotty plans for a warp core the size of a walnut.
    Obviously, the technology for Starfleet to actually do that did not exist but they did have the plans and 80 years later their warp cores were much smaller and more efficient which left far more room for crew, supplies, and whatever they needed for 15 year long voyages.
    So, after several hundred years, the fact that the engineering section and warp nacells would be made much smaller and the fact that they can power far bigger ships should be no surprise.
    That being said, as someone who fell in love with the original series Enterprise, I do think the Enterprise J looks weird and misshapen.

    What if, on the saucer section, gravity is arranged either pointing towards, or away from the edge of the saucer? The saucer and nacelles may look very thin, but keep in mind how large this thing is, this is probably a hundred decks or so stacked on top of each other.
    This thing is as high as a skyscraper and has the diameter of a large city.

    A ship that size, and they have that small a registry? The designer must've been an ancestor of the Sphinx designer.

      If the saucer section is over a mile wide, then the registry would be something like 347 feet wide, which would cover 22% of the Enterprise D's saucer section.

    Finally got around to watching this! The J is actually one of my favourite Enterprise designs, in part because it looks to ridiculous to be anything but a far future ship. After watching the video, I have a couple of thoughts on the J's design:
    1. It's more pronounced on the model, but even on the renders, the windows look almost distorted, which to me implies a kind of warp field around the ship -- maybe as an advanced development of the warp bubble, maybe as a form of shielding that redirects incoming fire around the ship.
    2. I know loads of people have suggested the J's big windows could be in the walls if the ship had its artificial gravity flipped sideways from the norm on Federation ships, which is a possibility, but I also think that given the sheer size of the vessel, these could be windows for huge communal spaces, like sections of a starbase, or some kind of park / hyrdoponics section (I know this thing's bound to have super-advanced replicators, but even so they might want some form of backup in case of malfunctions).
    3. If you remove the saucer, the hull looks a lot like a very sleek, Federation-ised Klingon battlecruiser. The bow section with the replicator is like the hammerhead on most Klingon capital ships, while the mouth-like deflector, long thin neck and flared out, wing-shaped engineering section are all reminiscent of the D7 / Ktinga. Since this thing canonically has Xindi crewmembers, I think that Klingon involvement in its design really isn't that far fetched, especially since this is a far future ship. This Enterprise might, indirectly, owe a lot to Ambassador Worf for being what it is.
    4. Further to the idea of removing its saucer, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to separate it from the hull (it could go sideways, but that'd be super awkward due to the sheer size of the thing and the deflector section seems to curve round enough to get in the way). The Federation had a mostly functional Phase Cloak around the TNG era, so with centuries to advance the technology and potentially Romulan reuinion with the Vulcans (thus producing Federation Romulans), this is how I imagine the saucer escaping. The big J gets into a nasty fight and doesn't want to risk its non-combat crew in the saucer? Saucer cloaks, phases through the ship and gets the heck out of dodge while the Battlecruiser-style hull goes to town on the bad guys. You mentioned the NX class a lot, but the J also really reminds me of the Enterprise D, which brings to mind the possibility of similar features.
    5. The sheer size of this ship seems totally unnecessary to me, even if it is the future, unless it's not on ordinary starship missions. If the J were intended to explore other galaxies, or otherwise act as a colony ship with its own ready-made starbase (that huge saucer), then its size would be justified, but for missions like we see the other Enterprises undergoing, it is just beautiful levels of overkill -- unless, of course, everyone's trying to one-up the other with absurdly huge starships.

    I always envisioned the Enterprise J as something the size of an average continent. Each side of the saucer section could dock two ships each, roughly the size of Enterprise E. From the main bridge back to the nacells, there would be staggered bays housing advanced Runabouts, Defiant class ships, and almost one thousand stingers.... small overpowered combat ships. Very maneuverable, and very hard to target.
    The saucer section is still detachable. The primary haul slows to 1/4 impulse while the docking clamps release. The saucer section stays ion place while thrusters push off the main haul.
    As for the main haul, there are three options for propulsion; impulse, warp, and slipstream.
    Impulse we all know. Warp is for when you have to cover a long distance in a short amount of time. Slipstream is for when you have to get there now! Like, right now! It's powered by the engine, appearing as a dome of light between the nacells on the main haul. It sucks up power quickly, so it's used in only the most extreme emergencies.

    What part of the Enterprise J was Daniel and CPT Archer standing at? Based on the location they were standing, this would have to be beneath the saucer section and off to the right of the center, but there is no angle like that according to the model. Thanks.

    I remember something odd about the design when I saw this episode. The flat vertical window that Archer is looking out of doesn't seem like it fits anywhere on the how the ship is designed. The viewpoint and position seem wrong. I think the production team just needed a quick corridor redress and just didn't have any communication with how the visuals would be made.

    I thought the eliptical form of the saucer was a direct result of the angle of perspective we were given in the only shot we see of the ship. Because it was from a slanted, isometrical perspective, I always assumed that the saucer was as round as the previous versions.

  • @Gunnar001
    @Gunnar001 5 лет назад

    I like the design. The scale and possible technology it may have is very intriguing. As stated by the ship's designer, Doug Drexler, the Enterprise J is a _"multi-generational"_ vessel and would have _"large parks, entertainment zones, and entire universities on board. The ship is so large that turbolifts would be replaced with site to site transporters... You might even have freeways on the ship, where you can drive a car from one end to another."_
    So, really, those huge windows we see on the hull would be more like sky windows for some massive open area inside the ship.
    Also, it's not just basic warp propulsion the ship is using, _"They can fold space, and they are exploring other galaxies besides the Milky Way,"_
    I have no problem with the nacelle struts being that thin. Again, this ship is huge, so, the struts really are not as thin as they seem. More importantly, this is centuries into the future. We have no idea what kind of super advanced materials the hull is made out of. They may look fragile, but, the hull could be hundreds of times stronger than anything used in the past

  • @Malkiore1
    @Malkiore1 6 месяцев назад

    I think I remember some video explaining that the hull was trasnlucent or something. Like a energy field or some type of shield covers the entire saucer section and the so called windows are not windows but were something else. I dunno it was awhile ago.

  • @MrGeocidal

    As far as I had read, the -J was supposed to be able to travel around the Universe as quick as (say) the -D travels around the Galaxy. That's why it's so large. They don't need to stop at starbases. They *are* a starbase.

    Because of its shape, any way you look at it except from the direct front or top makes the ships nacelles seem asymmetrical. Its an optical illusion for sure. When I saw it displayed on the wall in Enterprise during the episode I was like "why is it bent awkwardly?" but it wasn't, it just looked like it was.

    i bet the glass is not on the ceiling, i bet rooms are dimensional shifted so when you walk into them they're in front of you but you actually go up from the main hallways or down. so it looks like your entering a room with windows in front of you and not above you.

  • @Vixzenn
    @Vixzenn 5 лет назад

    From what I remember of the Enterprise series didn't they have "TARDIS" tech with ships capable of being larger on the inside? Might account for the thin saucer section and window placement when in fact it could be many, many decks as well as running longitudinally rather than vertically perhaps.

    You know, having as thin a design as that along the axis makes sense from a tactical perspective. In battle you want to keep as little of a cross-section exposed as possible for the purpose of making yourself difficult to hit, and to detect. Admittedly the sheer size may somewhat negate this idea but it is still valid
