I graduated in 88. I miss this time so much. The music, movies, the big hair girls. What a time i had in my teens. 70s and the 80s were the best of times. Today, even with all I've got, doesn't come close. It was a time of freedom, peace, and easiness. If you weren't lucky enough to be there, i dont have the words to explain that scene. I was a teenager when this came out, and yes, it was just as awesome then as you have heard!!! I want to give a big shout out to anybody who was in middle school/high school around 1988. ❤ We lived it, loved it, and have the memories to last a lifetime. I also want to send love to anybody who is in their teens and twenties right now who loves this music. Just remember how much the older fans love you guys for daring to be different and check out great 80's music. You are an inspiration! ❤
I'm 22 years old and I've been a fan of the 80s since I was a kid when my dad showed me his favorite band, Scorpions. Then I started checking RUclips for music and here I am. I have always been a fan of those years, but especially of Heavy Metal. Not long ago I was lucky enough to work selling Judas Priest merchandising, my favorite band of all time, and they let us go in to see the concert in short periods, but my boss allowed me to see the entire concert and the truth is, WOW, I knew that already They are very old and I probably wouldn't have the opportunity to see them but I was there, crying like a child with the excitement of seeing my idols. Every time I remember it my eyes shine, It was Magic. Greetings from Spain.
RATT really started rolling in 84 when I was 16 in highschool still one of my favorite bands of all time, Warren is a guitar god absolute LEGEND. RATT is still one of my favorite bands of all time. R.I.P. ROBBIN.........
I was in high school in the 80s and this was the type of music the kids were listening to at the time...young and free considering what's going on in the world today.Oh by the way I still listen to Ratt in my late 40s.
I'm 52 and miss these days so much! These bands and their music kicked ass! It will never die as long as Hair Nation is playing it! My 11 year old son will not listen to anything but Hair Nation and the Boneyard! He's well versed in all of these bands and knows the music word for word. I'm very blessed!
i'm 24 and i try my best to spread the word on good music, but no one really cares. I wish i would've lived in the 80s man, i don't even have anyone to share cool music with
I was at this concert, recorded at The Palace of Auburn Hill in Michigan... what a great memory... wish I could go back and live this memory all over again... when music was at its best and the world had a moral compass
I can't believe nobody has tried to cover this song. The lyrics are so well written you couldn't make it sound bad if you tried. Highly underrated song.
Well it is hard to make a cover which sounds original when you are covering 80’s songs because they all sound amazing and there is really nothing you can do to make them better. It is not like covering songs from the 60’s or 70’s which you can give a spin on as they were pretty bare bones for a lot of them. For example it worked when 80’s bands covered old stuff because they cleaned them up and improved old songs such as Quiet Riot with Cum on feel the noize, Britny fox with Hair of the dog, Kiss with god gave rock and roll to you II, Mötley crüe with Smoking in the boys room and Guns n roses with knockin on heavens door.
Absolutely, RATT really started rolling in 84 when I was 16 in highschool still one of my favorite bands of all time, Warren is a guitar god absolute LEGEND, R.I.P. Robbin........ Part of me will àllways be stuck in this era and I'm good with it.
LIKEWISE! I'm, STILL, "in the dark" as to WHY A LOT of rock/metal fans chose to leave or abandon the-then 24 hour rock/metal party to "welcome" the God-awful grunge movement/era?! Well, THANK GOD GRUNGE IS DEAD SO THE FANS CAN GO BACK AND ENJOY LIFE!
We didn't give it up. Music was completely controlled by what the suits at the major record labels would publish back then. When they decided grunge was the next big thing, they closed the door on all those great 80's rock bands.
I agree. I saw it all and can't remember a thing except what an awesome decade. Hell I won't even be able to remember tonight now that I've got started on the RATT
Many of the Ratt vids were on and off because of the legal rights Blotzer went to court about and ended up losing,,Well hopefully Warren does not do the same in the future
It was so good and such fun that it drove itself into the ground and self destructed. Like driving a Corvette off a cliff. Cool as hell while your airborne but ground coming up fast.
The kinda funny thing is that the song lyrics are “I want a woman not some little girl”, and probably at least half of the girls in the video are high school age. Lol. They’re cute though! High five from the class of 1988.
We need A Back to Rock music revolution Back when music was part of our life's 80 music should come back In my reality it's never has gone away I'm listening to it every day above the ground 3:243:26
By sheer coincidence I had to stop the video as I'm at work so I could come back to it and play it. I stopped it at that mark. I agree w/your sentiment, that smile and that girl is beautiful. I wonder who she is and how she is today now an early 50's woman that might not even know the video w/her in it exists. I'm so glad I was around for the 80's and in high school for it, it was a magical, awesome decade. I miss the heck out of it.
As a person who was slightly younger than you are when this song came out, yes, I see what you mean. However, there was still a lot of bad, just like any other time. You didn't have cell phones. I didn't have one until 1997 or so. We used pagers. Why? Because a cell call was 1.00 a minute, when you might have made about 5.75 an hour. A tank of gas around 1990 was about 20 bucks. On a big car (I had an 81 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme), you'd give them 20 and get a few bucks back from dead empty. In a major city. Smaller towns were cheaper, but you couldn't rely on the quality of gas. If it sits it can make the car noisy or smelly (exhaust). Kids were big on FM radio. Songs I heard a LOT of are "Steppin' Out" Joe Jackson "Separate Ways" Journey "Oh, Sherry" Steve Perry (sang for Journey) "Round n Round" Ratt "Here I go again"-Whitesnake It strikes me as odd that the girl in the Whitesnake videos is dead now and she's only a bit older than me. We hung out at the malls a lot. It wasn't a big thing to drive as a young teen (16, tho lots of kids learned early on farms at 12 or much earlier). But taking a bus or train was pretty safe in most areas. Cars were made extremely solid. My mother had one in the Olds, and there was one dent, while the other guy's car was totaled. There was still lead in gasoline up until around 1980. The Blues Brothers mentioned it in the movie. That was a big movie for Chicago kids, as well as 16 Candles and the Breakfast club. They made little rubber band bracelets in different colors that were big, as was Swatch (watch) and Benneton clothing. There was quite a bit of neon colors and purple. Jordache jeans and Gloria Vanderbilt. Reebok high tops like Jane Fonda wore in workout videos. Also Nikes, but they look different than now. Steve Perry had some in a live Journey video... Sounds: expensive keyboards were big. Yamaha made a DX-7. It was ubiquitous in those 80s movies. Mad Max. Trading Places. Electronic drums were needed and VERY VERY expensive. The early Simmons ones you see in Total Eclipse of the Heart were probably 4 THOUSAND dollars back then! Nobody used their cymbals, b/c they were AWFUL. Some used a Linn drum.machine, too. They used acoustic cymbals. Which were much better up until fairly recently. Now, you'll get a very good cymbal sound, but the Roland v-drum set can be as much as 7 thousand dollars! They make smaller ones, but I still prefer acoustic. If you get a chance to learn music, DO IT. Most of us up here wish we did. Girls also like musicians and it keeps you out of trouble. It'll be easier to learn as you're young. Encyclopedia Brown, Choose Your Own Adventure and Sweet Valley High books were all big. .Atari of course. But I much preferred the ColecoVision. Much better graphics. 8 bit! Lol Spencer's gifts was big at the mall. Bookstores. We used to drive around with kids on the hood of the car on the mall rood. Literally hanging on by our fingertips! Nobody ever got hurt, tho. I knew a kid who used to jump off the garage. Don't do it. You mess up your back now, and it'll haunt you forever. Trust us stupid old people (way too young to be boomers, tho). TV. MTV was new in 1980. It. Was. HUGE. I can't even tell you. Actual music videos 24/7. 1st song was a horrible tune called...Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Pink Floyd the wall was also huge. The movie as well as the song/video. If you get a chance to see The Wall show, DO IT. Def Leppard. Motley Crue. Btw, Roderick's band "Loded Diper" in Wimpy Kid books was from those bands. We recorded from cassette tapes. CDs were out, but 1 disc was like 4 hours of work. About 20 bucks. A tape was about 7 or 8 bucks. 1st CD I bought was Black Sabbath hits. It was 5.00 in the bargain bin. Record Stores were big. Tower Records. Peaches. You had to go THERE to buy tickets or call and the line was always busy. People waited overnight and it was actually fairly safe. I never heard of anyone stealing or molesting anyone that way. People worked out in health clubs. Jane Fonda was a poster child. So was Suzanne Somers (3's Company). Benny Hill was big. M*A*S*H was huge. Bob Newhart show. All in the Family. Cheers. The Cosby show. Different Strokes. Facts of Life. Married with Children. Lots of cartoon reruns. Like Pepe LePew. Which was my favorite and it was extremely old THEN! Like 1950! Or more. Oh, Toto was huge. Africa. Wow. When that was NEW. The band is full of studio players. Many are dead now. Legendary drummer Jeff Porcaro died of a cocaine overdose/damage to his heart from using cocaine. So, never, EVER do drugs. If someone suggests it, it's time to go. Just trust us on that. Cocaine doesn't have a "safe" amount. It can kill you at any time at any amount. Even the first use. A lot of people did pot and drank, but it wasn't so strong as it is now. You never know what ELSE someone will put in it to addict you on purpose, so don't go there (fentanyl). Learn how to fix everything yourself. Asap. Nothing more useful than your own tools and knowing how to use them. It's all online. Just make sure the person is reputable first. Not just some celebrity. I remember very early computers when a jpeg via email was a HUGE mess to do. I remember thinking, "This'll never take off..."

Dunno where some of these people grew up. But, where I'm from we blasted these songs through pioneer speakers and burned a shit load of gas cruising the streets. We didn't have a care in the world about anything. I'm sure in some areas it was different. But, in middle America we had a blast.

Warren and Robin are not given enough props for how good their harmony leads are. I saw Ratt a few times in the '80s and they always put on a killer show. Both of them would do a lead harmony solo during the show.
I will always cherish this period of my life🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Just like pretty much everyone else in this scene - I had a blast 😀😀😀 This decade still resonates to this day 30 years later and I am not surprised. “We are having a party and everyone is invited”
Yo, and we didn't need to put up silly "all are welcome here" yard signs to prove our wokeness. Everyone was welcome, to party, to mingle and rock out....and more!
I'd love to know who the female announcer person is. i graduated in 89' so the 80's were my formative years and goddamn the 80's were awesome! So many beautiful women in this video, presumably all now mothers in their 50's, for me it's the kiss at 2:10 and that smile at 2:18 that just seals it for me whoever and wherever they are I hope they're well and no doubt unaware of this video.
I was born in 69. I remember the 80s. Mtv was MUSIC. I remember getting up at midnight to see a video premier, All we talked about was music, concerts, action movies, The girls has high altitude hair. would actually spend time getting "dolled up" before going anywhere. We were young and had nothingbetter to do. Boomboxes blasting hair bands on the way to school, U went to a arcade to play video games and be seen, falling asleep talking to your girl on the phone, making "mix tapes" Looking back it was like I lived in another world. Growing up then was amazing. Im 50 and this is still what I play at home and LOUD! Music now makes me wanna puke. Rock and roll truly RULED it was EVERYWHERE
I love the solo in round and round when they do it live and you hear each dive bomb separately as they come out of the solos...seen it a million times and I still love it..both have a distinct but great style
The saddest moment, when we knew things were going south for Robin, was the live performance where they were soloing and he was one fret off from Warren and it sounded like air raid. No unison and everyone on stage stared at him but continued. It's on YT.
Whew... I was a high school senior when this album came out. Saw the tour with Britny Fox and Kix, in Philly. Loved this tune and yes, all the girls were this cute back then.
The 80s where the best. Weekend concerts. The house lights dim and it’s game on for 2 hours. All your cares went away. Kids days will never experience this. I’m glad we all did from that era.
Classic band, classic line up, classic song, classic vocalist, classic guitar duo, classic bassist, classic drummer, classic Era of 80s makes the classic Ratt...........
This is the ultimate party song, right? BRILLIANT musicians, BRILLIANT songs. Who cares about the lyrics...? One of my favourite bands EVER! None of the other "hair metal bands" even came close. Right?
I have to echo what a lot of people have said here. 1981 to 1991 was a great decade for rock, the later years more so. No cell phones, We hung out at Mickie D's, cruised the parking lots, we rocked on Friday and Saturday nights at keg parties. We had a lot of fun without getting killed. The 80's girls had some of the best hair and sexy outfits ever. Had I not been so damn shy when I was a teenager, I probably could have gotten laid a whole lot more. I wish the girls had shaved back then, bush was still popular. But you can't beat the music and good times we had back then. That era was probably the last one that kids could be kids without getting in too much trouble. Too much media, politics, and freaks nowadays.
LIKEWISE! In my opinion, (back then) things were or life was great-until that "bad apple called Kurt Cobain reared his ugly head and, literally, SPOILED THE BARREL!" In my opinion, in other words, we TURNED TO or RELIED ON MUSIC to "HELP US BOND with other rock fans and to ESCAPE THE STRAINS AND DEMANDS OF LIFE" and NOT THE OPPPOSITE! THANK GOD HE AND NIRVANA ARE GONE!
Actually, hard rock killed itself, with the help of record execs looking for the next band that sounded like _________(insert any top band here). They signed so many generic sounding bands, it flooded the market and watered it down. People got tired of it. I know I did. I lived it. I have come back now though to loving this music again.
+AngelofAnguish I wouldn't say Cobain or any of the grunge bands killed it. Nevermind is a great fucking rock album. It's just a different style, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Of course I still love the 80's metal bands, but you have to admit the 90's produced a lot of good music also. Both the 80's and 90's are far superior to today's music. As for what happened to rock, I've heard people claim it was the internet and the loss of royalties making it less appealing for people to spend thousands of hours mastering the electric guitar. It was most likely multiple causes for the decline of 80's rock. Don't know if it will ever reemerge, but I hope it will one day.
I "hear" you! The thing that I find ironic or interesting is that if (modern) bands like Rage Against The Machine, Marilyn Manson, Slipnot, Pearl Jam, Melvins, and Green Day, and supposed to be the "future" of rock/metal, how come or why do they take SO LONG to put out new music-despite using modern or "cutting edge" technology? Not that I care, because I DON'T (to be HONEST, I wish they'd ALL GO AWAY!) but, "(just) out of curiosity." I mean, I go to amazon(.com) and a local music store, here in Seattle, called, "Silver Platters," and I see new music from ("old school"-ers like) Accept, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and Iron Maiden, to name a few. Not only THAT, A LOT of the "old school"-ers are STILL performing concerts (which I, proudly, "salute")! But, WHERE ARE the modern bands?!

@@jeremybettis8446 I agree with most of what you say but let's not act like hair metal wasn't just as addicted to drugs lol.. The difference was these guys did hard drugs to add to the fun and the grunge scene used hard drugs to escape their shitty outlook on life. I agree tho this era was so much more fun and I hate that people discount hair metal because it had a carefree attitude.

I can't believe nobody has tried to cover this song. The lyrics are so well written you couldn't make it sound bad if you tried. Highly underrated song.
There's no way in HELL any band could cover this.
The double guitar part at 2:58 is just fantastic.

Good lord why couldn’t I have been born in ‘67 and not ‘97. My parents had some kickass teenage years.

Same, born in 1996. I wish to be alive in 80s. 😫

I’m 13 years old and this is my favorite type of music. I tell my dad daily that I would of loved to grow up in this generation.
Songs I heard a LOT of are
"Steppin' Out" Joe Jackson
"Separate Ways" Journey
"Oh, Sherry" Steve Perry (sang for Journey)
"Round n Round" Ratt
"Here I go again"-Whitesnake
It strikes me as odd that the girl in the Whitesnake videos is dead now and she's only a bit older than me.
8 bit! Lol
Spencer's gifts was big at the mall.

It's on YT.
Those guitarists really have their act together, whoa. Same with the whole band, but those guitarists, wow.

This is the ultimate party song, right? BRILLIANT musicians, BRILLIANT songs. Who cares about the lyrics...? One of my favourite bands EVER! None of the other "hair metal bands" even came close. Right?
Love Ratt...one of my most favorite bands ever.
I love Ratt. This is mindless 80s rock music that had one thing in mind, and that was to just enjoy yourself. I so miss this genre.
80's metal is the best genre of rock...
