James - 75 years old and just received a set of the ZX4's - PW - 4i. I've been looking for something to replace my Titleist T300's for the last year. I wasn't unhappy with the T300's, but just looking for something that would match their distance, have a little better feel and sound, and not sacrifice the dispersion. The first few hits (indoors) told me that these were perhaps what I was looking for. I've tested a number of other clubs and had a fitting with TrueSpec last year and they couldn't find anything better than the T300's for me. I've been hitting the ZX4's indoors for the last couple weeks and there is no question that they offer more distance, better feel, and no sacrifice in the dispersion. Still adjusting to them and looking forward to Spring so I can get them outdoors. Senior golfers should definitely consider these because they are really, really good. I went with the KBS Max 55 Senior shaft and it feels as good as the Mitsubishi Tensei that the T300's came with. Thanks for your review and confirming that these are definitely a quality set of irons.
I would like you to include some slower speed swings in your data, as not everyone swing at 90+ mph. This IMO would be more meaningful across a range of handicaps. P.S. enjoy all your reviews. Cheers
More about ball striking capability than swing speed when you are looking for a set of suitable irons. Strike quality and pattern should determine choice over how fast you swing it.
Exactly I know guys who swing in the 80s with their driver playing blades and doing it well. But yeah generally lower swing speeds need more help getting the ball up in the air. ZX5 is about the best looking/feeling/performing mid handicap irons I've seen.
Srixon has got to be the most underrated brand in US golf. They feel incredibly soft (Zx5 and Zx7) not to mention they have mastered the blending process in irons. No one does it better from loft balancing, to visual and feel there isn’t another company that has figured this out like Srixon has. They are so good in this area that the overall majority of the staff (tour players) have blended sets in their bag and they do this for a living $$$$
Buddy got fit into a combo set of ZX5's and 7's last year. Dropped his handicap from 18 down to 8-9 range. Another friend is getting fit today or tomorrow for them as well. Depending how they work for him, I may try them on as well.
I really like how you give the non big five manufacturers their time in the the sun. I definitely would give Srixon a look if I were to look at a new set. I watched your ZX 5 five wood review and I have to say I was impressed. Keep up the great vids.
I have just pulled the pin on a combo set pw to 7 in the zx7 6 to 4 in zx5 altered the lofts on the zx5 to match the zx7, and keeping 4 degrees of loft between each iron. Looking forward to them arriving!!!
Have been playing the ZX7 for last 18 months and they have been fantastic. Waiting for demo clubs to arrive at my local PGA golf shop to try blending the 5 & 7….Can’t wait 🏌🏽
Coming back after a 13 year layoff (time priorities, what can I say?), I found that my Mizuno MP52 musclebacks were basically a random event generator in my hands at the range. Great feedback to help me as practice time decreased back in the day, but they're still forged clubs from 2008. Soooo, off to the fitter for more forgiveness. I could not believe the ridiculous consistency of the ZX5s up against the usual suspects like Ping 430, TM 790, etc. And such incredible feedback for the category! Got the full set from 4 down, no need to blend from my perspective.
Nice and expensive. I'm enjoying my inexpensive Takomo irons but will be looking for a wedge set (gap, sand, and Lob). Those could be Takomo as well ...
Mid handicap, average swing speed, coming from t300’s, looking for more workability in the short irons and something to grow more into, and wow wow wow. Woulda told u the day before i tested em that i had no business with a club thats on tour in my hands. But everything about it is stunning. Looks, feel, performance, its everything i went into the test looking for. Gonna go with zx7 for 7-p and zx5 for my 5/6. For reference i was hitting the zx7 7i the same distance i was hitting the t300 but with better confidence, launch, angle, i was able to turn it over so much easier and just very shockingly amazing amazing irons! Every swing just made me wanna hit another.
Dear James I have a review for you. The Ram FX 77 irons. You liked the Ram VIP irons wonder what you would think of the FX 77 irons. $350 USD. Muscle backs with Lamkin cross line grips and quality shaft's. I have the set with the graphite shaft and love them in a simulator and wonder what you would think.
Yes, I would seriously consider them. They are less expensive compared to other brands in Canada. I wish we could buy irons based on needs to help lower the price. I want a set from 6 iron to pitching wedge. I like using my hybrids instead of the 4 and 5 irons.
Get fitted for the clubs. They can order just the clubs you want or make you a split set if that's what you want. Off the rack will always be 7 club sets.
You can order whatever set make up you want from Srixon or any golfstore , just take the cost of the irons (7 piece set ) divide that by 7 and multiply by the number of clubs you want ( 6 to pw, 5 irons ) and thats the cost , then your not paying for irons you will not be using but just be aware that a 6 to pw set is a lot harder for resale without at least a 5 iron.
I did a fitting with the ZX4's, and man, the ball speed jump in comparison to my Callaway Apex DCB's was an additional 5 mph and I noticed the speed pick up in the downswing. When I have the $$, I will grab those up.
Getting fitted next month for irons, and yes, I plan to check out a mixed set of Srixon MK II irons. Comparing them to Mizuno JPX 923 HM and Ping G430 sets.
I currently use Titleist T300s/ Vokey wedges and Callaway woods. I have recently acquired a second hand set of 2016 apex CF16 iron set and two days ago I was fitted to anZX7/ZX5 combo. I’m getting rid of the T300s and looking forward to enjoying the Srixon irons. Just can’t wait to get them
went to several stores and tried p790, t200, cobra forged tec, jpx921 hm, jpx923 forged and none close to srixon zx5 in term of feel. definitely the best feeling iron!
Just put zx7 in the bag. So soft easy to hit. Thought going from a mavrik to these would lose distance but are so much more consistent and surprisingly forgiving.
Bought the zx5s 18 handicap the clubs aren’t at all intimidating easy to hit and very accurate the clubs also gives very good feedback would I recommend them 100% yes
The Srixon irons are definitly worth considering. I particularly like the look of the new Z forged blade. I hope that you will review this club as well.
I bought the zx5 mk2 with la golf 120 shaft, because of your review I hit zx 5 wood vs paradym, the srixon blew me away and I think it will be going in the bag
I know Srixon make/or made a full on muscle back version as well yet when I look at the witb on golfwrx most tour players use the zx7 or older 785 version. I'm eyeballing Cobra lately, those new King tours look solid...without yelling it.
I'm late to the party but thought I'd share this..... Just tested ZX7 mk2 7 iron against gamers (620MB) and Blueprint S. Hit 200+ balls and the ZX7 outperformed them both easily. Mishits were incredible losing only about 5m. Compared to 620MB mishits losing 10+m (kind of expected for pure blade with weak lofts). Then tested the ZX Mk2 utility 4/23 against my T200 4/22 and wow !! So much easier to launch and felt buttery smooth. Order placed. Ping want $400 AUD per iron and Srixon $200 AUD. Nutz.
If you look back over the last 2 years and see comparisons of players distance irons, the original zx5 had the tightest front to back dispersion in the category. So one of your points is wrong and one is right. These have actually outperformed the category in a lot of testing.... but you're right that the company is so bad at marketing that even the testers will say that they aren't outperforming anything even as they hit them.
Srixon have clearly put a lot of work into making these irons very blendable but that may very well be their undoing especially at the retail level. The issue with blending a set is that most big box stores do not like splitting apart sets. I normally just play 5-PW in irons and but I cannot buy that in store because they can’t just get rid of the 4 iron or Gap Wedge in stock sets, let alone split sets in half. Even if they could do that I’m pretty sure these 3 irons all have different stock offerings as their shafts and possibly different stock grips so I’m not sure I’d even want that if it was offered to me at a store. That’s not good for local sales since any combo set would have to be custom ordered. Maybe that’s how Srixon on wants it but I can say there are quite a few golfers out there who walk in and just buy what’s on the rack. Hope they do well because they look great.
Great review Robbo. I got the previous version of the ZX7 (4-PW, utility 3 iron and Zipcore wedges) and I’ve been very impressed by them. To be honest my game these days would be more suited to the ZX5’s or a combo set with 4-6 in ZX5’s and 7-wedge in ZX7’s.
I have the mk1 ZX7 4-pw, absolutely stunning! I've always played titleist irons and won't be going back after gaming these!! Being a single figure Hcap who likes the feel and workability I didn't like the offset of the 4 or 5.
ended up buying the srixon zx5 last year when I asked you several times how the takomo 201 was compared to the zx5 in size but no answer for me.. but love my zx5 irons
I had srixons for 5 years before my pings and am looking at these new irons with 4-5 in ZX 5 and ZX7s from there to wedge as I think they are possibly the only club in the market to rival mizuno.. the only issue seems to be stockist and fitting centres.. I’ve been trying since january to get fitted with no luck 🙈🙈
@@jackvliet I’m in between Manchester and Liverpool, all stockists I’ve phoned so far have said same as my pro that not getting fitting carts until mid March.. 🙈
Srixon irons are second to none. Being a Mizuno player for most of my life I tried Z585/785 3 years ago and put them in the bag inmediately. They will be replaced shortly by the ZX MKii. Still triying to figure out how to combo. ZX4 MKii look so good and are so easy to hit ...
I'm looking at potentially putting the zx4 MKii 4 iron in the set...then zx5 MKii 5 & 6 iron and zx7 MKii 7-PW. I'm also upgrading from my full set of 785s. Last year i replaced my 785 4 iron with the zx utility 4 iron and it was an amazing change. Turned that club into a weapon that I was never scared to pull when its yardage came up and gave me a better consistent gapping between my 4 and 5 iron. Also more versatile. Great off the tee...long par 3s and better peak height for hitting into par 5s. The ZX4 MKii looks so good and I think will perform similarly to the utility iron based on initial test. They've blended this line together so well that I love the little extra help in the 5 and 6 iron from the zx5 MKii and don't sacrifice anything really from looks or top line appearance.
Yes I would play them, really these are gorgeous irons, I am playing now the JPX 919 Forged, so I would like a combo set, PW ,9 in ZX5 and 8,7 in ZX4, for the rest I am playing hybrid, I am 69 years old and 11.0 hcp
I’d probably go zx7 all the way, they’re nowhere near as intimidating as some of the blade like cavity backs on the market. Very similar in size to the mizuno 223s
Probably not a priority, given your core demographic, but test data that also represents women and seniors et al, would be welcome, especially on improvement oriented sets.
I would go Srixon ZX Mk II Pitching wedge to 8 in ZX5 and 7 through 5 in ZX4. ZX5 Gap wedge if they have it. I already have the original ZX4 P-4 iron with the hollow head.
I was thinking the same configuration. AW & 8i 1 deg stronger in the zx5 and 6i, 7i 1/2 deg weaker in zx4. Going to get fitted when available. Also will be going with graphite shafts. Hopefully they can give me an idea of gapping. Ric
They sell the vast majority of their clubs to the Japanese/ Asian markets....i have used their clubs in the past.....good clubs but I won't be in the market this season
A shame that in the bag, theyre ugly. Otherwise, incredible performing. I dont play for dough, so I value the fun and appreciation of something aesthetically pleasing.
pulled the pin on a zx5 in 4&5 iron and 6 to PW in the ZX7 mks, 1000 cheaper than the big boys and boy i love these puppies, just a shame the wife won't them in the bed with us
James you have nice informational videos, but since I subscribed you told me I won something and you have not answered me on what I won even when I went to your email or other place you told me to go and asked you a few times to answer me what I won, it was right after you had the New Callaway Paradym driver package, wish you would just tell the truth would be nice.
You mentioned brand appeal in your video… seriously, if a golfer puts his clubs in the bag because of the brand name before performance, he’s missing the point.
😂 I think it's his job and at this time of year is when most manufacturers bring out their latest offering. He did put out a video playing Gaz in a club swap yesterday which was jolly nice 😁
Srixon also offers most shafts and grips for no up charge as well. I can get 4-p for $950 in my specs compared to ping i230 for $1500! If performance is close it’s hard to not go with the cheaper set. Also much easier to find Srixon accounts who get good discounts.
I just pulled the trigger on the ZX 4 mk2, been playing the TM m2 for past 3 years and tested JPX HMP and this. I am a high handicapper and the fitter said after testing me i gained 1 club on the HMP and a club and a half with the ZX4. He also put me on the modus xtra stiff shaft. I don't think its right as I am a high handicap.
I’m a higher handicap but got a full set of ZX5s. The ability to grow into them, while also still being super forgiving was very intriguing to me. They look fantastic as well. They’ve been super fun to play with so far!
Went in and hit all 3 heads.....thought about zx7 combo with zx5 mids and zx4 4 but zx5 mkii for the win !!! Just gives you everything ( well at least me) without giving up anything!!
If Srixon came out with new blades that fit the look with the ZX line I'd be highly tempted to replace my T100/T100s combo with a combo 8-P Blades, 6-7 ZX7, ZX5 4-5i.
I bought a brand new set of custom fit J Lindeburg MB irons limited to 50 sets worldwide at a third of cost just after Christmas. They have a pitching wedge at 44 degrees and a decent bit of offset. There's still some bargains out there and if you are a half decent ball striker you can consider almost anything. They would be too expensive for my taste
I’m very interested in blending these. Would have like to see you hit the 7i in zx4 and the 9i in zx7. But I understand that they probably sent them to you in this configuration. Thx, Aric
I bought the ZX 5 last year after returning a set of P790 Taylormade. Absolutely the best irons I have owned. I have a set of 1995 Hogan Apex that I have played since 95, and these ZX5 are the best. Love the videos.
Always used Titleist irons and was looking between T100s and T200 but now thinking about these too. I play off 11 but like a really thin top line. Put off by 'forgiving irons' looks. An ideal world would be slighlty forgiving, workability, and they all look like a Mizuno :)
Scott Gourlay Golf Technology (SGGT) is the only place I know who fit clubs using a 4,6,8 & wedge options. Not just a 7i. Having all those options makes sets or combo sets so much easier selecting the right clubs. I have ZX7s awesome clubs. Looking forward to the MK2s.
Was fitted into some ZX5s (PW to 5I) earlier this year to replace a very old set of Miz MX23. The Srixon has a slightly shorter blade length and a slightly thicker top line - overall I prefer their look. I think they are better than my old set on mishits but I still think a strike out of the middle of the sweet-spot feels better on the Miz. Overall, I am happy with them and enjoying using them.
I bought a brand new set of ZX5s off ebay (2021 model) for £450. They're lovely, really good. Only issue is they are soft and one round of carrying and the bag rattle had left some small dinks in them. 😭😍
Good vid, question when getting fitted here the main issue is that most fitters only fit you using a 7 iron only, so my concen would be are fitters now fitting golfers using say a PW, 7 and 5 iron in each model so you are able to make a proper informed choice and reflect what the data says, thoughts?
Hi James I had a set of zx7 last year and they were great irons a combo set I think that’s the way to go not available to March the new driver looks great as well cheers jj

@@uwrossl I am mulling over as I do not know how to adjust lofts. E.g. ZX4 6i 25,5º, ZX5 7i 31º. 5,5º gap is too big
absolutely would consider them. Have always liked srixon products
Played ZX4 for a year. Great clubs.
The zx5 PW 9 iron is really really good!
Well done James 👏
Yes I would play them, really these are gorgeous irons, I am playing now the JPX 919 Forged, so I would like a combo set, PW ,9 in ZX5 and 8,7 in ZX4, for the rest I am playing hybrid, I am 69 years old and 11.0 hcp
James, please do a video for the Z forged 2 blades too!
21 secs… you’re taking it back inside the line again…exactly what David Ledbetter told you NOT to do…. You’re a naughty boy James
Looking at these irons, to me they remind me of the Cobra Amp Cell irons
Very nice looking clubs.
Zx irons a pull machines. No offset zx7 would be grand.
Are you going to test the new c723 tour edges?
I’d probably go zx7 all the way, they’re nowhere near as intimidating as some of the blade like cavity backs on the market. Very similar in size to the mizuno 223s
Probably not a priority, given your core demographic, but test data that also represents women and seniors et al, would be welcome, especially on improvement oriented sets.
Yes. I’m going to look at them today.
Ciao
Mi hanno offerto un set di Z5 2021 a € 750 volevo sapere se i nuovi sono molto differenti?
Io hcp 6.
Grazie
The new zx5 spin is ridiculous for that type of iron
Thanks for the warning.👍
Srixon maybe not better than the big brands but it's certainly not worst neither (I'd that makes sense)
Course looks in good nick
Is spring on the way and or is there still time for another trip overseas?
Srixon must have boosted their adv budget by a bit.
All of his videos are like this now
😂 I think it's his job and at this time of year is when most manufacturers bring out their latest offering.
He did put out a video playing Gaz in a club swap yesterday which was jolly nice 😁
Put them in the bag!
I think Srixon are way underrated. Cleveland more than that. I am still playing TA-2 irons in pristine condition.
I love how brits say zed. We americans are boring with Zzzz. It just sounds formal
I’m a higher handicap but got a full set of ZX5s. The ability to grow into them, while also still being super forgiving was very intriguing to me. They look fantastic as well. They’ve been super fun to play with so far!
Same here, got fit into them as I was hitting them well and I can grow into them! They are so good!
How you getting on with them? Looking to possibly get some
@@Tommy7urbo How you getting on with them? Looking to possibly get some
@@George-cz9go still waiting for them to arrive. Go give them a test! Loved them
What's your handicap?
I already have zx5 and zx7 mkI best irons on the market.
I’m very interested in blending these. Would have like to see you hit the 7i in zx4 and the 9i in zx7. But I understand that they probably sent them to you in this configuration. Thx, Aric
What is the problem? Or is it a clickbate?
Watch the video buddy
@@JamesRobinsonGolf watched it twice 😀, buddy
I bought the ZX 5 last year after returning a set of P790 Taylormade. Absolutely the best irons I have owned. I have a set of 1995 Hogan Apex that I have played since 95, and these ZX5 are the best. Love the videos.
How you getting on with them? Looking to possibly get some
missing z forged 2 review
I have a combo set of the previous version. They are perfect I absolutely adore them
Always used Titleist irons and was looking between T100s and T200 but now thinking about these too.
Why are your titles always negative? Very annoying.
Saying something is almost perfect is negative? Maybe it’s the way your mind works that’s annoying you? Glass half full in my world mate
Nice. I’m playing PXG and love them. But going to try done Mizuno just because. Are these equally ?? In your opinion
Good vid, question when getting fitted here the main issue is that most fitters only fit you using a 7 iron only, so my concen would be are fitters now fitting golfers using say a PW, 7 and 5 iron in each model so you are able to make a proper informed choice and reflect what the data says, thoughts?
The last gen of ZX irons were nice
Hi James I had a set of zx7 last year and they were great irons a combo set I think that’s the way to go not available to March the new driver looks great as well cheers jj
