    The section where Poults plays off the path around 33 mins is just an absolute joy. Poults giving a ridiculous level of insight into why he chooses to play off the path when 99.9% of amateur golfers would just instinctively take the free drop (if available) without a second thought is an amazing lesson. Couple that with Rick just laughing in the background at how lucky he is to be getting that sort of insight from Poulter and then seeing Rick's sheer joy and amazement when Poults pulls the shot off exactly as he described (albeit not to his own incredibly high standards) is wonderful. Brilliant video Rick - thank you!

    I already liked Ian Poulter but now I Love him!
    As fans seeing pros talk us through the shots is always something we love to see (which is why Rick always asks the pros to talk us through it (thanks Rick always been a fan))
    But what Ian adds is his geniue caddying at a high level and Rick doesn't have to ask.
    I remember when Nick Faldo gave rick that wonderful piece of advice with the low 9 iron shot into the heavy wind but Rick basically had to beg for that and it felt like Nick reluctantly gave it because he is so competitive and I dont hate Nick for it . . . Thats his personality even against Rick he was there to win thats the way he is thats the mindset that won him Majors.
    And no Ian doesnt have a major but his ryder cup career alone and his reactions in that tournament show how competitive he is and how good he is in these one on one scenarios
    And we saw that competitive drive really kick him into gear at the death when Rick was somehow holding on (I mean that in the nicest way possible Rick but at one point I thought Ian was gonna need an 8 on the last to get it done)
    But dispite it going to the wire Ian still helps Rick (without asking) as a caddy genuinely to the best of his abilities.
    He also warned Rick about the 20ft spin at the end I felt like Rick didnt buy it because of how Ians landed.
    Either way we saw Ian change gears to close it out.
    Rick not your best round but I really applaud the way you played that last hole when the pressure was max and the confidence understandably knocked.
    And Ian . . . Thanks for adding so much to a series that already on its own delivers so much . . . You have set a benchmark for the pros that follow.
    Wish I could give this more than one like.
    Thanks Lads!

    A few take-aways:
    1) Aim small, miss small even counts on drives. I’m happy to hit a fairway, let alone actually intending it to finish somewhere more specific on said fairway;
    2) I only dream of a day when I could hit my irons as far as I now hit a driver off the tee;
    3) I wonder if I don’t think thru my options more before hitting recovery shots. Do I aim for a gap and try to draw it a little (good luck with that) or do I safely chip out onto the fairway for a clear shot instead? I usually opt for the safe out;
    4) I admire how top-tier golfers even hit bad shots but refrain from crumbling under a bad attitude and then hit fantastic follow-up shots, instead of (like me) hitting a bad shot that gets in my head, leading me to a horrible follow-up shot, etc.
    Great video on several levels…not just for its entertainment value! Thank you!

    I watched every minute of this video! I grew up with some of the best players in the world. Burke, Demaret, Kite, Crenshaw, Elkington. This was very entertaining. Most of all there are some life lessons for all here. One..Enjoy the game (your game) make it fun! Compliment yourself when you hit a good shot! Don’t be at all hard on yourself when you hit a poor one. You don’t have that right if you don’t practice 4 days a week.
    Compliment your friends when they do well. Golf is the hardest sport in the world. Lastly, Ian is an ambassador of the sport. You made an old guys day!

    Poulter's recovery shot on 7 was simply awesome. But I'm reminded that we can all play a shot like that now and again, it's part of the wonder of golf, those 'glimpses of glory' that keep us coming back. Ian seems like a fun guy to play a round with, and hearing him talk through his mind-set as he plays is gold. One of your best ever course vlogs Rick, well done.

And what an “on course” lesson it was for you personally. They way he’s asked you to talk you through your club and shot selection and then offered his advice was first class. What an entertaining video series. Long may they continue.

Always game to have a good laugh, always prepped for some sporty competition, and always so blatantly honest with his words. Huge respect for Ian with everything going on lately. He has truly become one of my favorite golfers. Thanks for the opportunity to watch this Rick. Best..

    • @jcjbike
      @jcjbike 10 месяцев назад

      No... he's not misunderstood at all. He is very well understood. He's got a bit of "jerk" in him and some people do. He's put that on display so many times over the years that it's not even debatable. I saw it up close at a US Open and thought, "come on dude... get a tighter grip of your horses." Is it life and death that Poulter is that way? No... I've known bigger jerks than him, but until he comes out and admits some of his past behavior could have been better, no reason for anyone else to do it.
      That said, I think HE should feel lucky he got to play a round with Rick Shiels. No one ever has to say "Rick Shiels is hugely misunderstood."

      If there was a major conducted at match play, not strike play, he’d have hoisted that trophy multiple times.
      What was even better was how Ian worked with Rick Tom make on course corrections & walk us through how he thinks thru a shot
