Great fun! Would love to see an episode of you playing Colin Montgomery.
The time Ian Poulter has for you, and his openness about his thought processes is just phenomenal. What an absolute gentleman. Best guest ever.
Absolute class act. Watching him talk through each shot was amazing too.
I was just thinking how a lot of viewers might find this boring, but I'm here lapping up every bit of it. True golfers will understand. This type of long form content with a pro is pure gold. Good on ya Ian, hope to see a win soon. 🏆

Ttue, even with the barrage of negative comments from the tour about them going to LIV, it cant dent the legendary armor of Ian. What a guy.... Tiger could play, but he has nothing on Ian when it comes to character!!!!!
Word. The OG
That last hole, Ian absolutely turned up the gas and destroyed the hole for the win. but the man cheered Rick on and complimented his efforts, gave advice fetched the divots and turned a high five into a hug. Absolute class act.
Completely agree, one of my favorite Rick videos all time
That's what's amazing about top tour pros. They can be absolute monsters when they want to
Wow 🤯
Loved it, as with a lot of the other comments, Ian was a true gentleman, encouraging throughout to Rick, great video!!
Fave guest so far. When he said "I hate losing" before the 17th, he suddenly seemed dialed in on every shot
Awesome episode
Of all your pro golfer guests, I absolutely loved how Ian handled this round of golf. He was your caddy, he took us through basically every shot and was just an absolutely amazing golfer. Well done Ian...loved it!
This is my favorite video you’ve posted thus far Rick. I’ve always liked Ian, but I’ve gained a massive amount of appreciation for him and his character after watching him interact with you and giving us, the viewers, great entertainment. Of course, you always deliver yourself! Thanks so much for your hard work.
Well said
Dito
Couldn't agree more, best 10 shot challenge yet thanks to poults
always the best dresser, for sure.
This is by far my favorite video from Rick. Hearing the thought process from Mr. Poulter was absolutely amazing.
Absolutely great content
gonna say the same thing . istening to a proper pro talking through shots shows the difference in levels and is great to get a chance to listen too
I’ve enjoyed all of the others but this one felt too long.. I got to about hole 4 and felt bored.. there was just too much waffle between the shots 🤷♂️
May be I’ve been spoilt this week with GG at pebble beach, Bryan Bros and Grant at the ProAm and last nights BDS with Paige?
1st class from both players:)
I love how you refer to him as Mr. Poulter, even in a youtube comment. Such respect 👏
How he vocalizes his process for each shot, his candor on bad shots, the way he plays to the camera, Ian is far and away the best guest for this challenge. Super entertaining and the golf was very relatable for the majority of us.
He's used to that LIV atmosphere now. Gotta love it.
So much respect for Ian Poulter. What a charming and warm man. Thanks to both Rick and Ian for sharing their round with us.
Ian’s looks at the camera while Rick is talking to himself are genuinely hilarious. What a treat of a human being! Hope he knows how much we enjoy him in content!
Imagine getting the chance to play a legendary clutch player, who is still playing amazing golf later in his career.
Ian Poulter must feel very lucky
this same joke is made on every 10 shot challenge video and it cracks me up every time
@@bolsterfightbecause it's my joke! It's fun making it different for each player.
😂
You must be lonely making the same pathetic joke every time
Brilliant 😊
What I love most about this is I've seen Poulter play loads, and heard him in interviews, but that is him being a pro. Here we feel like we're just hanging out making friends with him along with Rick. Plus the camera loves him and vice versa. What an absolute treat. Gold.
The section where Poults plays off the path around 33 mins is just an absolute joy. Poults giving a ridiculous level of insight into why he chooses to play off the path when 99.9% of amateur golfers would just instinctively take the free drop (if available) without a second thought is an amazing lesson. Couple that with Rick just laughing in the background at how lucky he is to be getting that sort of insight from Poulter and then seeing Rick's sheer joy and amazement when Poults pulls the shot off exactly as he described (albeit not to his own incredibly high standards) is wonderful. Brilliant video Rick - thank you!
Amateurs take the drop because we pay for our clubs. If I got clubs for free like ian maybe I'd consider it 😂
@@kourt2469
I was about to say the same thing I'd prefer the tufty lie over the dinked wedge
This whole series is like getting a bunch of playing lessons. Super interesting to get a peek inside the thought process of these tour pros. Congrats Rick and the pros on making something so enjoyable as well as being informative and educational. Great stuff.
💯% pure gold content. Ian didn’t simply participate in the 10 shot challenge, he performed and demonstrated an appreciation for us viewers. I've always liked him as a golfer, but I'm now a legit fan and will root for him whenever he's in a field.
Seriously, he just made this one of the best Rick videos ever, i've never had so many laugh out loud moments on this channel, as i did with this video. And you can tell that Ian wanted the win!
This video has changed my perception of Ian. The way he helps around the course and his patience is awesome to see.
Yeah, maybe you shouldn't judge people you've never met based on some golf and media footage.
How very true ,just shows how we can all get taken in by the professional side of someone until we see this side of them ,top man Ian and I wish you continued success .
lol, I almost didn’t watch when I saw it was Ian. This turned out to be my favorite “Can I beat”.
@@killuaonhorsevery easy thing to say. Unfortunately that’s usually impossible.
Ian and Rick defines why Golf is the best sport on planet earth. The joy from these guys is spinning round the world. Applause from Stockholm, Sweden. (Looking forward to Stenson challenge). Awesome!
This should be an annual match. Poulter is great on camera and the chemistry is great!
The look on ricks face after Ian hit the ball of the path. Priceless
Best comment
Best guest by quite some distance. Considering his standing in the game, it's brilliant to see how grounded his is, and genuinely supportive and encouraging towards his opponent. Absolute gentleman.
Meh. His LIV shenanigans have lowered my estimation of him. Not that'll he care with all that extra money that went his way.
@@RD-zx6pyI doubt he’d care that much anyway pal 😂
Standing in the game? Don't think I've ever seen the guy in contention to win any tournament
@@SL0409 maybe was a reference to his Ryder Cup performances rather than individual tournament play.
@@SL0409he’s literally got 15 wins between the PGA and European Tour 😂
What a player, what a gentleman, helping you to make the correct choices and telling us all about his choices. The one we always wanted to watch in the Ryder Cup, I hope he'll be able to be involved again, he'd be a great captain too
What a delight to get to listen to what was going on inside Ian's tiny gray cells. Ian's up and down on hole 6 after his first two shots. Holy tomato! I would give my eye teeth to play with Ian. What a great down-to-earth guy! Thanks SO MUCH, Ian and Rick!
Ian was helping with every single shot and sharing the course knowledge, what a great guest, the best you ever had Rick!
Hands down the best guest thus far. Ian was all class with time, encouragement, explanations. Unbelievable content I thought.
This was amongst the best golf vlogs I've watched. Ian's "asides" to camera were priceless. I was fortunate enough to play all three Woburn courses recently and this brought back great memories. IP is such fierce competitor and still so likeable.
What an absolute legend. Being new to golf I loved listening to Ian’s thought process, course management/shot assessment…and a thoroughly nice guy to boot. Great content as always Rick 👍
What an absolute legend Ian is, competitive without being arrogant and helpful, what awesome viewing 😎
Ian was an amazingly friendly competitor. I know he wanted to win, but I got the feeling Ian wanted RIck to play as well as possible too. The way Ian supported Rick throughout the round was awesome. Really a great example of sportsmanship. The commentary was top notch as well.
I already liked Ian Poulter but now I Love him!
As fans seeing pros talk us through the shots is always something we love to see (which is why Rick always asks the pros to talk us through it (thanks Rick always been a fan))
But what Ian adds is his geniue caddying at a high level and Rick doesn't have to ask.
I remember when Nick Faldo gave rick that wonderful piece of advice with the low 9 iron shot into the heavy wind but Rick basically had to beg for that and it felt like Nick reluctantly gave it because he is so competitive and I dont hate Nick for it . . . Thats his personality even against Rick he was there to win thats the way he is thats the mindset that won him Majors.
And no Ian doesnt have a major but his ryder cup career alone and his reactions in that tournament show how competitive he is and how good he is in these one on one scenarios
And we saw that competitive drive really kick him into gear at the death when Rick was somehow holding on (I mean that in the nicest way possible Rick but at one point I thought Ian was gonna need an 8 on the last to get it done)
But dispite it going to the wire Ian still helps Rick (without asking) as a caddy genuinely to the best of his abilities.
He also warned Rick about the 20ft spin at the end I felt like Rick didnt buy it because of how Ians landed.
Either way we saw Ian change gears to close it out.
Rick not your best round but I really applaud the way you played that last hole when the pressure was max and the confidence understandably knocked.
And Ian . . . Thanks for adding so much to a series that already on its own delivers so much . . . You have set a benchmark for the pros that follow.
Wish I could give this more than one like.
Thanks Lads!
Absolutely golden. No change in his openess and generosity of spirit at any point, despite the difficulty of his position in the match and the fact he had nothing to gain and everything to lose. Easy to see how you'd want to have him on your team.
For all the success he's had in his career, Ian Poulter seems like such a nice, humble bloke. No heirs nor graces, just down to earth.
Humble 🤣
Yeah, I especially like how humble he was when he took $30 million to play for a authoritarian, human rights abusing regime. Great guy!
@@drfell9105like you would turn free money down 😂😂
@@drfell9105Yet here you are living in the UK, the worlds biggest colonisers. You should move.
@@ArthurSymington1 Weak comeback. Things that happened before I was even born are hardly my fault. Someone taking money from murderers is indefensible.
I sincerely hope more people can see what a great guy Ian is after this. I've always liked him, even more now.
Funny thing, I never liked him but now I do. I really think these guys would do themselves a favour by doing more of this sort of thing.
@@dondyhrI could not agree more. Getting to see their personality really opens your eyes to just how down to Earth they can be.
I had not seen any interviews with Ian Poulter, so other than likely recognizing him, I had no idea of his game or personality. After watching this video, I can happily say that it was time well spent. What a gentleman.
This is such a treat!!! Confirming what I gathered from watching Ian through the years. What a guy!! Thanks Rick, and Ian
This has been my most enjoyable watch of these matches. The humility that Ian showed throughout is wonderful. A great bit of joking around but, he was so humble in his application in trying to help you out along the way and hearing him talk to himself about his own layups. Really, really good watch this, I think there should be a rematch between you both.
Keep smiling Rick and surround yourself with people like Ian who are willing to give you the time!
Gained massive respect for Ian for being super relatable and otherworldly composed even when he's not playing his best. What a guy
like Ian said he made some club choices his caddy would not have recommended at all . He could have easily taken 3 wood off more holes , Buttttttttttttttttttt he wanted to have some fun ;)
Yeah, I love this guy. Great personality. Dude has four kids, and you can definitely tell.
Until now I only knew him at work. I often get grumpy and whiny at work.
Never knew the warm considerate gentleman that is the reality of the man. Sharing world class golfing thought processes with us is manna for the masses.
PenguinGolf
What a brilliant piece of entertainment. Made so great by Ian's generosity with his time, knowledge, commitment and determination. The way he treated Rick as an equal and acknowledged the great shots while still wanting to win shows what a true gentleman he is.
Just brilliant
No other words just brilliant
super impressed by poults, honestly came across so humble and friendly. when people ask you can have a round with 3 others he's certainly jumped into consideration after seeing this. quality
That was pure enjoyment, and what a breath of fresh air, seeing a top Golf Professional behave in such a friendly manner.
Ians reaction to that epic 17th fiasco was priceless.
The most entertaining round of golf I have seen. Ian’s insight into the thought process behind each shot was a real eye opener
These 10 shot challenges are my favorite content on the channel. They never disappoint. Ian was a good sport and a lot of fun.
A few take-aways:
1) Aim small, miss small even counts on drives. I’m happy to hit a fairway, let alone actually intending it to finish somewhere more specific on said fairway;
2) I only dream of a day when I could hit my irons as far as I now hit a driver off the tee;
3) I wonder if I don’t think thru my options more before hitting recovery shots. Do I aim for a gap and try to draw it a little (good luck with that) or do I safely chip out onto the fairway for a clear shot instead? I usually opt for the safe out;
4) I admire how top-tier golfers even hit bad shots but refrain from crumbling under a bad attitude and then hit fantastic follow-up shots, instead of (like me) hitting a bad shot that gets in my head, leading me to a horrible follow-up shot, etc.
Great video on several levels…not just for its entertainment value! Thank you!
Definitely my favorite video. Ian has always been a favorite of mine. I giggled like a little kid when Rick hits the tree and Ian faces the camera laughing. Keep up the good work Rick
When Ian is done competing...he has a very bright future coaching! His ability to talk Rick through his shots is beyond impressive. Doesn't tell him what to do...let's him give his thought process then gives gentle nudges to a different approach.
This full rounds with tour pros are the best RUclips golf content. Always thought the Foreplay Boys round with Kisner was the best...until this one. What an incredible job by Poulter. So fascinating to see his level of focus and detail for the entire round, all while coaching Rick through every shot.
This
It's really special the amount of time he takes to explain what to do for your shot and what he is trying to do for his shot. It's great to hear the mind of a pro at work.
Everyone knows Ian's character, but he was absolutely fantastic - talking thru his thoughts and approach to each shot - you rarely get those sorts of insights into the mind of a top golfer 👌
This might just be my favorite video you’ve ever posted Rick. It really had everything. Hearing Ian’s thought processes on his shots was so fascinating!
The amount of times Rick changed clubs after Ian had given him his advice and opinion was mad. That’s the difference between a good player and a pro. They see so much more than an average golfer and they don’t over think things. Brilliant video
55 year old American here that absolutely hated Ian from his Ryder Cup days, but I gotta tell ya this video totally changed my perspective of Mr. Poulter. Greta video, love Ian’s play by play and his humility, class act!
Rick shot a 89 at River Club-Bradenton; your Complete Golf Swing videos are what any person who wants to enjoy golf needs to watch... Rick's Q School
I loved how much Ian was at ease, enjoying the battle and joking at the same time.
You bring out the best in them, Rick.
Ian is actually helping and giving Rick alot of reads and advises as he plays.
Best bit of RUclips ever. Saw every minute of it. Poults was amazing and so gracious with his time. He doesn’t need any celebrity but just shows what a true gentleman and champion golfer he is. LEGEND!! Shiels was entertaining as ever. Keep on golfin in the free world❤❤
I got a smile on my face the entire round! So fun to watch, thanks Rick, and thanks Ian!
I've said it before Rick, but to many after long week at work, these longer Friday night videos are like therapy. I sit smiling and laughing all the way through. Thanks and keep them coming. 🥇⛳
Nothing better on a Friday
What a great guest Ian was! Would love to see him more. He was made for RUclips.
was thinking the same, he's perfect for RUclips.
What a wonderful watch! Nearly 2 hours and kept me intrigued throughout, not often I can say that. Awesome interaction between you and Ian and what a truly humble, funny gentleman he is. Love your enthusiasm to win but also your graciousness in defeat...excellent
Just found this channel. This has got to be one of the best vids I’ve ever seen. Fantastic. Ian Poulter is such a great guy and so informative
This was an absolutely fantastic round of golf with a very humble and generous guest. Ian Poulter has now become one of my favourite professional golfers. Superb content Rick, keep doing what you’re doing.
I love how Rick calls what shot he’s gonna play, and then hits something totally different, ONE OF US
Rick hitting his ankle with his wedge was the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen on RUclips Golf.
I watched every minute of this video! I grew up with some of the best players in the world. Burke, Demaret, Kite, Crenshaw, Elkington. This was very entertaining. Most of all there are some life lessons for all here. One..Enjoy the game (your game) make it fun! Compliment yourself when you hit a good shot! Don’t be at all hard on yourself when you hit a poor one. You don’t have that right if you don’t practice 4 days a week.
Compliment your friends when they do well. Golf is the hardest sport in the world. Lastly, Ian is an ambassador of the sport. You made an old guys day!
Always been a big Poulter fan but seeing him in this element has made me a life long follower, what a legend!
Poulter's recovery shot on 7 was simply awesome. But I'm reminded that we can all play a shot like that now and again, it's part of the wonder of golf, those 'glimpses of glory' that keep us coming back. Ian seems like a fun guy to play a round with, and hearing him talk through his mind-set as he plays is gold. One of your best ever course vlogs Rick, well done.
This was your clip I liked the most! Ian Poulter is now one of my favorite ever! Great golfer, great person at all. Really god job rick!
This, in my opinion, is one of the best golf videos on RUclips, Mr Poulter is an absolute legend and the way you see and hear his thought processes is an education
Team Rick, thank you for making these giants human. The transparency lifts the veil of media hype or villiany, and makes them human. They're multidimensional and more interesting than what we'd otherwise see on a broadcast. Keep it up.
Agree that this is one of the greatest videos from Rick, or any other youtube golfer for that matter. Ian's commentary is such a rich addition and the amazing insight it gives into the mental process of one of the greatest golfers of our time is invaluable. Kudos to all! I am at loss for words to describe how much I learned from this video.
i love the fact that he talks to you rather than down to you. Seems really supportive even when offering critic
A lot of fun to watch! Really enjoyed the conversation, and the multitude of shots! The way both players amped it up at the end! Wow! You could tell Ian was really enjoying the match coming down the final hole. Really good stuff!
It’s amazing what a competitive soul Ian is. You can almost pinpoint the moment he decides. Amazing.
Ian just gets it!!! 🎉 Him sharing his thoughts on his shots as he plays is so awesome! Thank you for this series because you never get to be on this side of the ropes… incredible content!
One of the best !!!! Chilling in Ohio during the pre winter days I had to lower the heat in the abode again Ian's walk and talk through with his shot selection really opened up my eyes to somewhat the amount of "tools" a golf professional has at their disposal.
This has to be the best 10 shot challenge yet. Well worth the wait. Loved how Ian painted the picture for every hole and showed some real class throughout. Great banter and some cracking shots from you Rick. Last hole putt off to decide the match. Poults maintains the wins for the Tour Pro's. Epic. Well done 👏
I think all of your guests have been awesome and Ian is no exception. What an absolute pleasure it was to listen to his thought process as he approached each shot. And what an “on course” lesson it was for you personally. They way he’s asked you to talk you through your club and shot selection and then offered his advice was first class. What an entertaining video series. Long may they continue.
Poults is a natural you tuber. He engaged with the audience so well. His openness and relaxed attitude were fantastic to watch
This is a great video Rick, and Poulter is absolutely fantastic listening to his thought processes and course management is a fantastic lesson, a real insight into a great players mind. Thank you for bringing the video to us, and thanks to Ian for being such an amazing guest! Keep up the great work!
Thank you Rick. That was absolutely awesome allowing us to get an insight into the great golfing mind of Ian Poulter. One less double Bogey and you could have beaten Ian at home! Ian Poulter is a huge gofling hero of mine and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Congratulations Rick. One of the best yet. Massive credit to Ian Poulter too. His candidness in the interview and during this match was phenomenal and the postman once again delivered.
Absolutely phenomenal! Ian was just great! From him explaining the shot, to encouraging Rick, and playing to the camera! I’ve always been a fan of his but now I have a better appreciation for him! Thanks for sharing.
Love everything here: great course, great guys, great conversations and insights.
A big thank you for this one🤗
What an amazing video. Ian Poulter was fantastic, especially the way he talked thru his shots. You could tell that around the 14th hole he was in full match play mode and wanted to win.
A hugely misunderstood, and insanely genuine person. He seems like such a real friend. Always game to have a good laugh, always prepped for some sporty competition, and always so blatantly honest with his words. Huge respect for Ian with everything going on lately. He has truly become one of my favorite golfers. Thanks for the opportunity to watch this Rick. Best..
No... he's not misunderstood at all. He is very well understood. He's got a bit of "jerk" in him and some people do. He's put that on display so many times over the years that it's not even debatable. I saw it up close at a US Open and thought, "come on dude... get a tighter grip of your horses." Is it life and death that Poulter is that way? No... I've known bigger jerks than him, but until he comes out and admits some of his past behavior could have been better, no reason for anyone else to do it.
That said, I think HE should feel lucky he got to play a round with Rick Shiels. No one ever has to say "Rick Shiels is hugely misunderstood."
Those displays were pure competitiveness@@jcjbike
@martinmoore7551. Nah…. It’s a jerk. If you were right, all competitors would behave that way.
This makes me love Ian as a golfer and a human. You and him get along so well and he is very friendly and down to earth. You’re a great golfer and person too, but I’m always impressed when people who are at the top of their sport are so willing to give helpful information and have fun doing it.
I'm very new to golf, only did driving range twice so far but I'm hooked. I don't know most of what they were saying but even a person with no knowledge of golf can be entertained by these two. Great banter, loving this ⛳⛳⛳
