  • Here we have Mr. Foushee's insane-o ported 461 Stihl. He wanted an extreme animal (extreme + animal = insane-o) 461. Fresh out of the shop. This is the second tree for it, so she is running a little rich....
    A nice young growth red with a 31" 3rd cut (that's 1780 bf Scribner - around 6k bf total volume) along Fieldbrook Rd where you can see the traffic going by in the background. Then, by default, we can ascertain that the margin for error here was zero. Probably could have wedged this tree but did not want to chance it.........
    I am currently available for port work if you are in need or want to try something different.

      Maybe I'm jaded - imho, using one in factory trim is like a nose bleed. I won't even venture off the landing with a stocker. They (all) cut painfully slow. However, once zipped the 461 (all again) is/are a force with a short to medium bar (32"-36").
      Thanks for watching.

    I like that saw. How do the performance enhancements affect the life expectancy? Assuming you don't go overboard on the mods and use quality lubricants. Will a saw as such the one in your video make it through a season or need continued work? I have never done anything other than a ported muffler.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  7 лет назад +1

      I can come up with 6.5 million boards - in my head - that my last 390xp with a modified combustion chamber deaded. I go "overboard" on the mods all the time. Sharp chain, good mix oil, new plug after 30 hrs, air cleaner that actually gets cleaned, and proper jetting for the conditions/chain.
      "Warning" once you go zipped, you won't EVER go back. You will also be wondering what took so long.....
      Thanks for watching.

      All the 562s are, so yes. Had two first gen 575s. Everything benefits from a good flow enhancement project.

    the 461 handled that tree it like a boss
    What type of chain do you use

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  7 лет назад

      It depends on the application. It could be Oregon, Stihl, Windsor, or Carlton (same as Bailey's house blend) - full comp, full skip, or semi-skip. Again, depending on the application and wood type/location.
      If you are asking about this particular video then, if memory serves, it is Husqvarna ( made by Oregon) full comp chisel chain that is 3/8s pitch and .063 gauge.
      Thanks for watching.

    I have a 461c-m. Have you ever done any work on them. Can that e-carb adapt to any mods?

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  7 лет назад

      Are you sure you have the nomenclature for your saw correct?
      No offense, but according to one of the biggest shops on the west coast, all the Stihl literature (both online and in print), and the Stihl USA tech guy, that saw doesn't exist - anywhere in the world.
      I 'm curious to see which saw you have.
      Thanks for watching

      We don't have the large hardwood patches locally like you experience. I have cut a fair amount over the years - just because of the number of years..... We have cut some really nice oak in those years as well.
      Thanks for watching.

    you know you could of dropped this tree with a lighter saw only 50 cc, the stihl ms 261 that saw could handle the 33 inch bar, that would be more impressive. i have a 89 cc saw, an older stihl 051, i want the 461 though with a 30 inch bar.
