    Hi Suz, I thought the quilt was really cool looking before you added the colored strips. It looks good with the colored strips too, either way including the runner.
    Oh, sure I’ve had to make changes.. one time I had quilted a quilt 2/3’s the way finished, but I didn’t like it. So, I had a nice visit with Jack, took every stitch out and caulked up a new design and quilted it. I loved the end result. I hope you have a nice rest of the weekend, 🥰 Chris

      Omg! That was so much work! I know what it takes to rip out quilting stitches!

    I feel for you - straight lines terrify and often threaten to defeat me, but I liked yours. If in doubt add multiple borders in bright colours is my go-to. One such was a jelly roll race which everyone said would be fun. Hmmph. I hated it with a passion and hid it away for about a year but could still see it through the plastic tub. In the end I unpicked the ugliest fabrics and cut the rest into large diamonds, sashed like a lattice, triple bordered and made a waved edge. Also used a bright, contrasting binding. It really looks great but there are still bits of the ugly sitting there that get used up in scrappy projects. I still have 3 UFOs, sitting there, taunting me. One day. Either that or a bonfire at midnight
    🥴🤣Love your quilts!

      I absolutely LOVE this story and the way you're telling it! I think I've learned a lesson with this quilt. So many are commenting that they really liked the original quilt, wonkyness and all. My filmstrips were all pretty straight, but my huge squaring error changed everything for me. I need to learn to accept my ' adjustments' and embrace the quilt anyway. Thank you for your awesome story. I'm glad I'm not alone! Much Love

    i might be weird but i love love the very slightly wonky look the quilt had-- gave it great movement to my eye. it inspires me to try a version of this that is free- flowing wonky... i adore quilting that i don't have to fuss over reaching for that (for me) elusive perfection 😀.

    This looks like a male quilt to me. I would love to make a wonky one for males in my family. Great idea , Suze.

    I totally get it. If you don't like it. It doesn't matter what others really think. Ha I had a triangle quilt I was putting together with scraps. At first. I loved the color combo. Then all of a sudden I just did not like it at all. I boxed what I had finished. And the remaining scraps that I had planned to use. I gave it to charity. I thought someone there might like it. Maybe they can finish it. Maybe they can fix it to suit them. I wanted no more to do with it. It was a scapped scrap project for me. Ha BTW your wonky quilt would be great to just lay around or cuddle around in.

      Ha! Someone who gets me! I appreciate the comment and the story. Sometimes we all have projects like that. It always seems like a good idea at the time. I thought it was wise to share my whole journey, not just my successes. Thanks for watching. Much Love!

    Suze, this came out spectacular! I didn't really perceive the top as wonky, it had lots of movement and I don't think anyone would have noticed, but, the table runners are awesome! God bless.

    I had a quilt that was an okay quilt but when I quilted it, I had some tension problems with my long-arm. Had random sections that I had to tear out the quilting on. Problem was, I couldn't replicate the quilting exactly so it looked awful. Found a butterfly print that the colors worked well with the completed quilt. Fused some stiff interfacing onto the back of the butterfly print. Zig-zagged around each butterfly, trimmed and then zig-zagged again to finish the edges. I tacked the butterflies over the messed up stitching only on the body portion of the butterfly so that the wings were 3D. Turned out much cooler than the original plan.

      That's amazing that you turned that situation around and made it into a quilt you loved. You must have a lot of patience. It sounds alike an awesome quilt!

    Because I seem to have some dyslexia or maybe too many dogs😂 most of my sewing projects are like this. I make an error and then it’s off to the circus to see what happens…I’m usually really happy with results but I’m willing to roll with it. I also get bored really quickly and so I don’t like repeating a block after two or three and I start looking for ways to stray, lol. I really appreciate your attitude about making things and sometimes making decisions as you go.🎉

    I personally loved this graphic look of the quilt before you added the extra floral sashing! I would have absolutely no problem having left over half jelly roll strips. I would have either made the quilt bigger by adding extra columns or save the for another project. I am definitely saving this pattern to make my version of your wonderful quilt. Thanks!!!

    I loved the wonkiness of the quilt, I would have kept it! I had made Christmas table runner and 12 placemats. I had it all quilted and ready for binding, but I hated it. Thinking I may change my mind, I put it away for a year. Took it out and still hated it! So I ripped everything out, put all the squares into a lap quilt that I love. I need to sandwich, quilt and bind it.

    I had to surrender on my first attempt at designing my own pattern. I had a fabulous set of coordinating fabric, too. I did the math over and over, I double checked a bunch of times. I cut and I sewed and then all hell broke loose when it came time for the design wall. My poor husband and kids tried and they couldn't make it work, either. Then my felt design wall fell down because it apparently gave up, too. I just bashed the blocks together in a mishmash, tied it, bound it, and donated it to make it go away. I've never hated a quilt before or since. That one beat me, hands down.

    If I sew all my seams in the same direction, things will go wonky. When I to remember to alternate each row, things workout a lot better (but, I sometimes forget to do so). I even have to remember to alternate each row while quilting, Your table runners look beautiful.

    Wonderful quilt! Your demo and tips are very helpful. I’ve never made a quilt from such small pieces. I like the idea of using the leftover jelly roll strips as sashing. Aw, I’m so sorry the quilt ended up as table runners since I don’t use them. Good save, though :) And, of course, I’ve had a number of project disasters - I have a special bin for them hidden in the back corner of my walk-in closet.

    I really like the quilt. I have a problem of being a perfectionist- it is ridiculous because I always make mistakes when trying something. It is all downhill when I realize it- trying to figure out how to fix it!

    • @revelationquilts
      @revelationquilts  Год назад

      I've never been a perfectionist, mostly because I know that is something I could never attain and I have no desire to put that kind of pressure on myself. I'm more of an 'acceptableist'. (I know that's not really a word.) I think to myself, "is this acceptable?". If it is, then I move on. If it's not, then I change what I'm doing. Did you know that in the past, quilters would purposely make a mistake in a quilt so it wouldn't be perfect? Their theory was that only God is perfect, so they didn't want to equate themselves with God. I thought that was interesting. You can find old examples of quilts with a misplaced block or color. They did that on purpose. I appreciate your input!

    • @pjfoltz8810
      @pjfoltz8810 Год назад

      @@revelationquilts I was labeled a perfectionist during college by an instructor. I can see it when I do art or crochet. Since I am teaching myself to sew, there are a lot of mistakes and that leads to anger. I will be one to leave a mistake in my projects because I probably will not see it until I am almost done!
