I don't actually send the food back. If it's not cooked properly or severely lacking in quality, my routine is that I go into the kitchen, challenge the chef resposible to an arm-wrestle, and if he loses, I get 30% of the restaurant.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with calling the waiter over for any mistake, big or small. The issue is when the patron is needlessly angry/upset about the error. They're probably raging at the wrong person anyway.
100% If my order is incorrect or there's something wrong with it, I will call the waiter over and address the issue. At the same time, I will do my best to not cause a scene in the restaurant since often times it's probably just a honest mistake by the staff.
Thank you. I’d call a waiter if there was a hair in my food but I wouldn’t be… Kicking chairs or flipping tables. I’d be embarrassed I had to call the waiter over and waste their time tbh but that’s just being nervous around people lmao. But yeah just a simple “Hey I found a hair in my food, I get it that this stuff happens, can I have a replacement please?”
Yeah, usually I’ll still eat the food to if it’s not a big deal. I don’t get upset and I’m nice about it when I let them know. They usually take it off the bill, or throw in a free dessert so I think it’s worth it imo
Oh absolutely especially if you are traveling in a foreign country, it’s dangerous not to send the food back if it looks questionable. Say you visit a Third World country like the Philippines or China. You could get dysentery or extreme food poisoning.
@@Wingzero90939 I don't think China is a third world country? I'm pretty sure it is a first world country and has a strong economy. Health standards for food might not be the same as where you live, though. So you could be concerned about that. Regardless, if you're in a foreign country or your own country, bad food can often not be determined visually, but if you see something you think is questionable, it is fine to google it, ask about why something looks a certain way, or ask what something is. As a result, I think trying to communicate concerns can be a better first option than sending the food back. Especially if the local dishes look different from what you are familiar with.
I work in fast food, and I have a lot of respect for people who come back to tell me their order was wrong calmly and nicely. Unless you work in fast food, you've no real idea of how many orders we have to prepare. We do our best to minimise mistakes but at the end of the day, we're human. Just let us know what's missing or what needs to be fixed, and we'll do it.
If you get something incorrect you can always get it replaced. Just don't be rude about it. Mistakes can happen and if you just state what's wrong and if they can fix it, 99% of the places will. Waiters usually don't care as it ain't their food costs. Same with chefs. Owners would rather have cost x2 for a customer to have a good experience and the chance to come back. So if it's something you don't want, and the mistake is on their side, (can't tell you how many times people have claimed they asked for chicken when we have them recorded saying beef), they will happily fix the issue.
As a Hotel & Catering student in France, you're perfectly entitled to send back a dish that has something wrong in it (hair, cold food, dead fly, etc) and even send it back because you simply found it disgusting. Yes, if I paid to have a meal a certain way, I expect it to come out that way. You don't have to be an asshole about it, but you should stand up for yourself and get what you paid for.
Listen I don’t care if it’s a hair on my food or the wrong order, I’m telling someone to fix it or send it back. I’m paying you my hard earned money so I expect at least my meal to be right or clean. All you have to do is be respectful and everything will be fine. When ever my meal is wrong I tell them and they make me a new burger or add what they forgot. I honestly don’t understand how you can just eat the wrong meal and be fine about it.
As a line cook for the last 15 years, I'll remove the hair and eat the meal. Then mention it once the dish is picked up. It happens sometimes and unless it's like, a lock or dread, it's easy to be rid of it.
There's levels how bad it gets for me. If it's something minor like they put pickles when I said no pickles I'll just remove it. I'll sorta moan to whoever I came with but that's it if it's something like I get a rock hard steak and I paid decent money for it then I'll call the waiter. But in neither circumstance would I throw a tantrum and make a scene
bruh I can spiritually relate with garnt not having to use hands to eat food and just straight up use fork / knife cutlery. From eating chicken wings with bones to straight up eating those chocolate easter eggs. I don't like having to get my hands dirty after eating meals.
One time a really bad waiter actually flagged down my friend demanding she leave a tip for their table. The waiter legit got in her face about the whole thing. She hadn't left a tip bc the server was extremely rude the whole time and got half their orders wrong on top of the restraunt not being busy.... That was the only time my friend ever asked for a manager.
For me, if it’s a little thing I’m not gonna get too upset. Forget the ketchup? That’s fine. Forget a fundamental part of the dish? that’s when I speak up.
With getting the order wrong, if there's something missing (say a side of mash or mozzarella sticks) I usually ask the waiter for the extra piece but I'm never upset about it. If it's something I genuinely don't like that will stop me from eating it (say cinnamon on my apple crumble when I asked for without) then I ask for a redo, again without throwing a tantrum. If it's minor like olives in my salad, I pick out the olives. It's all dependent. But yeah, if it's a 10 minute food n I get it in 40 with the wrong stuff, I am way too tired to deal with that. Regardless of how busy or quiet the place is. I'll jus get a mcdonald's later or something. I'm sure waiters are more than happy to do something for you if you're one one of the few not rude/aggressive customers.
I have had to return food twice in my life. One was cause what I was given I was highly allergic to. The second time I was served actual raw chicken they took it back and it took an hour and a half to get me my order and it came back black from spices coating it like a crust. Needlessly I just gave up then.
Calling the waiter absolutely makes the situation better! they'll take the food and prepare some more for you for free. in some restaurants if you get the wrong order, they give you that one for free and prepare the food that you actually ordered. just don't be an asshole when you tell them about the mistake.
I couldn’t imagine seeing a hair in my food and just eating it anyways. At that point they’re the ones disrespecting you by giving you unclean food and probably cooked in unsanitary place
For me about the question with if they got your order wrong, I think it is a extrovert and introvert thing. I nearly always just accept it and say it's okay. Like if i ordered a burger without pickle or tomato but still get it, no big deal as I'am more of a introvert. But in my girlfriend case as she is really social and loves talking as being extrovert. Example when we were at mcdonalds on the drive through, they got my order wrong but I was like "no it's fine I can just pull it away or pick it off" while my girlfriend goes like full on out of the car and back inside mcdonalds, went up to the cashier and says to their face that they got my order wrong, while i stand in background saying it's okay, not wanting to make a scene, luckily it was few people there but still XD
It's probably a good idea to have some quality control system. Like if customers start just leaving a business, that business would prefer knowing the cause.
I once ordered a brisket and cheese stuffed steak and instead got a shrimp stuffed steak. I'm allergic to shellfish nd only found out half way into the steak, but was so awkward about bringing it to their attention that I got up and rushed to a pharmacy and then came back and got it as a take away
If I see a hair in my food, I usually call the waiter, politely point that out and in all of the cases so far they said "sorry", took the dish and brought a new one. You could tell it was another dish since it looked very different. Never encountered any problems with that.
If the waiter screws your order up you definitely say something. It doesn't matter if it's a 15min order at a pub or a 40min order at a fancy restaurant. You tell them they fucked up. You'll either get your correct order or (what they'll usually do), is comp that order.
I know it's a matter of cultural differences but it's really fascinating the approach of correcting (or not) wrong or gross food you get at a restaurant. The hair thing I get, just take it out but if it's a wrong order or something else is wrong with it just send it back. Seems way more reasonable than just accepting it and leaving a bad review.
I mean I don’t send it back but I still tell them. I’m nice about it. Usually they’ll make it free, or throw in a free desert or something. I don’t cause a scene or get upset. And they do something about it for me, so to me I see no reason to not let them know.
I was once at a Fancy Lunch event and they served those extremely small pickled onion things. Idk what they were called but they are small, round, white and squishy. Anyway, it was fucking abhorrent and I almost spewed it back onto the table. Then I realized I had a whole plateful of it. God forbid I ate the whole fucking thing somehow to not seem rude.
I'm not vegetarian, but my Wife and her Family is. We've had to call over the waiter, because now matter how clear you are when ordering something and telling them not to put meat on the plate or put something to the side they just don't listen.
Ive never experienced in a restaurant that made a wrong delivery to my table. Well there is one time we ordered a certain fish and it never came out. We never actually complaint that much but boy that manager is furious, we said its fine. The manager was the one who made a scene not us. Mostly in fastfood are the ones who well screws my order. Though if its just a minor like wrong chicken part ill let that slide, but if the food is too small or taste funny. I will eventually return it.
As a person with allergies I don't always have the pleasure of eating the order the waiter got wrong. But I'll just quietly call them over, quietly say that it's wrong and I'm allergic to X ingredient amd politely ask for them to change at least that dish. You don't need to make a scene when there is a mistake, amd if you're cool with the situation , the waiter is gonna be cool too(most of the times)
the waiter is there as an easy messenger to the kitchen for any issues. so asking the waiter to inform the chef isn't a big deal. it's being rude to the waiter and treating them with disdain that is a problem. the people that act like it's their fault are the worst
The only time when I asked a waiter to return something was when they brought me a shrimp dish where the shrimp was barely defrosted (calling it simply undercooked would've been a stretch). I politely inquired if they could heat it up a little bit more so that I could actually eat it. The waiter was nice enough to do that, but the restaurant's manager came out to stare at us condescendingly. Ouch.
Uh literally as a first date its common sense to give a good first impression. if anyone were to be eating like a slob at the table of course the other party would be grossed out, so idk what joeys trying to say here about "that girl not being the right one for you if she's grossed out with sauce on your face". If youre in a relationship or have been together for a while then its a different story.
ive only really sent back food for a bug in it, hair is whatever sometimes i get my own hair in my food cooking, its all good. one time though my friend got a legit huge ass WASP in her food; like if thats not reason enough idk what is. also; get ya someone that will eat wings messily with you
I would send it back any order that was wrong, unless it was very similar(like a rare steak instead of medium steak, or hamburger with onions instead of no onions). If someone gave me a chicken wings when I ordered steak, I am not accepting that.
That's so interesting, I'm from Brazil and have also been told to not put my elbows on the table. I wonder where that comes from. Plus, I wouldn't care if my date ate wings with their hands lmao that's totally okay.
Most places will just give a replacement soup. Personally, I don't really care about a single strand of hair in my soup - it's a minor annoyance but I don't want to wait for a replacement because of a small issue like that.
Not sure if being on the internet damaged how they act, because they are seeing as weird expecting a decent service. Is better to tell them calmly than just giving a bad review.
I don't see why they have no problem with finding hair in their food, it's a serious health code violation, if you can't expect them to follow that, how can you expect them to follow any health codes? people can get seriously sick or die from the lack of hygiene, of course you make a scene, it's unacceptable
You're being ridiculous. A hair in food that was just freshly prepared is not an issue - there isn't nearly enough time for significant microbial growth in the food itself and it could've just been the waiter's hair. Chefs and food prep staff do have to wear hair nets in the kitchen though, especially if they have long hair, but if a hair does manage to get into food it's ridiculous to make a huge scene over it - if you're grossed out by it, just politely tell the waiter/waitress and they will replace the food.
I sent my food back because it wasn’t what I ordered, the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, THEY SAT THERE FOR 20 MINUTES ARGUING WITH ME THAT THIS IS WHAT I ORDERED I was so mad I just sad fine and ate it I was so mad and it was gross. Soooo don’t go to Texas Roadhouse everyone
Maybe I’m just odd. If my order is wrong, send it back. I’m paying for the food and the service. I’m going to get the food I paid for and the service I expect. Accountability. I am allergic to basil. If I order something and failed to realize it has basil, I own my mistake and pay to order something else. Therefore, if I ask for no cheese and it has cheese, remake it please. Don’t be rude. The only time I've ever called a waiter over to complain about food, was the time they tried to serve me a rotten baked potato.
Casuals: Take the hair out of the food
Professionals: Eat the hair
I understand what Connor means about table manners being really british
I love how every time they say something is a british thing, its just a normal thing around the world lmao
As a waiter holy crap can Joey, Garnt and Connor please be my customers 24/7
Bruhh a hair in my soup is pretty bad... I would ask for a replacement in a nice way 😉
For me, if it’s a little thing I’m not gonna get too upset. Forget the ketchup? That’s fine. Forget a fundamental part of the dish? that’s when I speak up.
Sometimes sometimes you know sometimes you know sometimes you know you know sometimes
The elbows rule comes from medieval times the tables was boards placed on barrels, an if you leant your elbows on it you would flip the table
The real problem comes when you've half eaten and then find the dead cockroach in it.
What? Having both hands above table is common etiquette right?
I have had to return food twice in my life. One was cause what I was given I was highly allergic to. The second time I was served actual raw chicken they took it back and it took an hour and a half to get me my order and it came back black from spices coating it like a crust. Needlessly I just gave up then.
Calling the waiter absolutely makes the situation better! they'll take the food and prepare some more for you for free. in some restaurants if you get the wrong order, they give you that one for free and prepare the food that you actually ordered. just don't be an asshole when you tell them about the mistake.
Bruh of course the server is going to take the food back if there's a hair in it.....
I couldn’t imagine seeing a hair in my food and just eating it anyways. At that point they’re the ones disrespecting you by giving you unclean food and probably cooked in unsanitary place
Getting wings for lunch
Not being rude at the dinner table is not a British thing. It’s just a thing that a lot of different cultures practice.
As long as the hair's not shirt n curly 😂
A re-fire bc of a wrong order should never are as long to make as the original dish
Would not get wings, burgers, sandwiches or crepes in a date.
So.... which countries allow hand on the table and which countries don't?
Hand? Or elbow?
@@Dota2funny Hand
If the waiter screws your order up you definitely say something. It doesn't matter if it's a 15min order at a pub or a 40min order at a fancy restaurant. You tell them they fucked up. You'll either get your correct order or (what they'll usually do), is comp that order.
If something is wrong tell your waiter, just don't berate them because it's (usually) not their fault.
Yoo what is this crewneck? Its so good! Name pls?
I mean I don’t send it back but I still tell them. I’m nice about it. Usually they’ll make it free, or throw in a free desert or something. I don’t cause a scene or get upset. And they do something about it for me, so to me I see no reason to not let them know.
about the hair thing, the standard is that they will take the soup away, make you a new one wich hopefully doesn't contain hair.
It’s the same the other way around ladies. If a guy doesn’t like you bc of the way you eat it wasn’t meant to be
only the very worst people leave bad reviews without letting the business fix the problem first
I was once at a Fancy Lunch event and they served those extremely small pickled onion things.
Joey: Just suck it up and eat the meat
Ive never experienced in a restaurant that made a wrong delivery to my table.
Well there is one time we ordered a certain fish and it never came out.
We never actually complaint that much but boy that manager is furious, we said its fine.
The manager was the one who made a scene not us.
Mostly in fastfood are the ones who well screws my order.
Though if its just a minor like wrong chicken part ill let that slide, but if the food is too small or taste funny.
I will eventually return it.
Yes
If you order a burger at a proper restaurant, do you eat it with your hands?
As a person with allergies I don't always have the pleasure of eating the order the waiter got wrong. But I'll just quietly call them over, quietly say that it's wrong and I'm allergic to X ingredient amd politely ask for them to change at least that dish. You don't need to make a scene when there is a mistake, amd if you're cool with the situation , the waiter is gonna be cool too(most of the times)
Nah bruh if there’s a hair in my soup even if I pick that shit out it makes me too uncomfortable to eat it 💀
the waiter is there as an easy messenger to the kitchen for any issues. so asking the waiter to inform the chef isn't a big deal. it's being rude to the waiter and treating them with disdain that is a problem. the people that act like it's their fault are the worst
Ouch.
classic gigguk KEKW
Uh literally as a first date its common sense to give a good first impression. if anyone were to be eating like a slob at the table of course the other party would be grossed out, so idk what joeys trying to say here about "that girl not being the right one for you if she's grossed out with sauce on your face". If youre in a relationship or have been together for a while then its a different story.
ive only really sent back food for a bug in it, hair is whatever sometimes i get my own hair in my food cooking, its all good. one time though my friend got a legit huge ass WASP in her food; like if thats not reason enough idk what is.
also; get ya someone that will eat wings messily with you
why are auto captions in dutch?
I would send it back any order that was wrong, unless it was very similar(like a rare steak instead of medium steak, or hamburger with onions instead of no onions). If someone gave me a chicken wings when I ordered steak, I am not accepting that.
That's so interesting, I'm from Brazil and have also been told to not put my elbows on the table. I wonder where that comes from. Plus, I wouldn't care if my date ate wings with their hands lmao that's totally okay.
See the modern problem is they might be a pervert and have their hand on a different sword
Why are the captions in dutch
you could get a refund. why wouldn't you want a refund on the tainted soup
I only send food back like steak when i ordered rare and it's well done because i'm not eating a fucking shoe
Glory to Arstotzka!
good soup
But, accountability.
