A traditional Japanese breakfast is amazing, but when you are on-the-go, you really want something tasty and easy, which a traditional Japanese breakfast is not.
I was satisfied with the coffee options in Japan although it is a step down from America. But I visited South Korea for a couple days and went to Dunkin Donuts (my hometown coffee chain from Boston) and was blown away that they don’t serve “regular” drip coffee. I don’t know how they prepare it but is all different. The closest is an americano Korean style which is nothing like American style americano. It’s good. It’s just different and this was a culture shock for me. The Koreans I mentioned this too were all insulted and thought I was rude to expect Dunkin Donuts to provide typical American coffee when it’s not a specialty coffee shop. My second culture shock was this unexpected reaction from the Koreans. Sometimes it’s best to just play it Japanese tatemae style.
Drip coffee is very uncommon in Korean coffee shops and restaurants. Anything 'drip' presently is cold drip. Other than McDonald's, I can't even recall seeing hot brewed coffee or a coffee maker that isn't an espresso machine. I reckon it exists in some places, but is so infrequently ordered that it's either been sitting around or must be brewed fresh. Back in the ' 80s and early '90s the only coffee one could get in Korea was instant coffee. This was even _in_ the coffee shops, which were fronts for the world's oldest profession and not a coffee experience. When Starbucks arrived in Korea in 1999 everything changed almost overnight. Now there are cafes in what seems like every third storefront. All with espresso machines. Most of these cafes are nearly empty. Given an americano is espresso plus hot water, it's kind of a hard drink to get wrong. I guess they're using different beans. Koreans are very thin skinned and defensive, so anything short of effusive praise they take as a slight or worse.
Oreos aren't good if you're not from the USA, I couldn't believe how overly sweet and tasteless they were when we got them in the UK after US tv charecters raving about them. Oreos are overly sugared, thin, crispy crackers faintly tasting of something that might resemble chocolate, with some gritty, hardened sugar slurry in the middle. It is so far away from an actual cookie or cream of any kind. I agree completely with Connor.
About the icecream machine always being broken at McDonald's: it's probably not broken at all. I used to work there, and it's a fucking pain to refill. So when it's super busy, it's easier to just tell the customers that it's broken
There is a reason that Starbucks failed in Australia (outside touristy areas like airports), with huge loses and more than 50% store closures. They had absolutely no idea about the quality of the coffee market they were trying to enter. Where top baristas are eagerly headhunted by prestigious cafes, which will live or die on the quality of their coffee.
6:05 That's because Nabisco copied the Hydrox cookies and then outspent the Sunshine Biscuit company on advertising so no one knows about the Hydrox cookies.
3:40 I can explain the issue with Starbucks on Ubereats. The issue is that you order from a menu created by Uber not the restaurant you order from and after making an order Uber orders the food from the restaurant. I work at a restaurant and when we run out of a popular items we continue to get orders for it from Uber and other food delivery services. Thats when we start writing "Sold out ask for refund" on the receipt. Weve even had delivery drivers come to the restaurant just to find out that the order couldnt be made and, they had to call the customer to tell them to cancel the order and ask for a refund.
I found it surprisingly hard to find a decent cappuccino or espresso in Japan. Far from impossible, especially if you're willing to settle for Starbucks, but much less pervasive than places in Southeast Asia like the Philippines where espresso culture has infiltrated heavily with tons of local shops and local chains.
Beans are in my earnest american opinion NEVER meant to be a part of breakfast. Lunch/dinner fine but for BREAKFAST? Blasphemy *however in regards to the english breakfsst dish i now realize is the thumbnail, thats a good breakfast yes*

As someone who used to work at a McDonalds, the oreo bits we used for the McFlurrys were almost always just powder or VERY small bits. It came in bags.
Did you guys try dairy queen's blizzard while you were in the states. Those are very better compared to mcflurries. Also Ice cream machines there work without is because the options they provide are not in demand. Take the US in the middle of summer for example.
I have literally only once had a McDonald's tell me their ice cream machine was broken. I have never been able to relate with that common complaint lol
Boys. Gents. Lads. FUCK a McFlurry. Next time you're in the states, hit up a Sonic. Or a Culver's, a Friendly's, or any place selling "concretes." You'll thank me.
Not a local restaurant but a local music store for me. I have bought so much stuff from that place for like 8-9 years that they know to call me if anything interesting is in store(in my case is if anything was in a white color). They gave me free picks, free set up on my guitar and let me play with the drum kit when i waited for my bus. I bought like at least 10 guitars in that place, not to mention a couple of pianos, an unhealthy amount of guitar pedals, accessories and what not, and they closed down not too long ago because of the building itself. I was kinda devastated ngl.
Honestly I only get a McFlurry if there isn’t a Dairy Queen in town, otherwise I’ll get a Blizzard, cause they come in more sizes than Kids cup and Shot glass ( regular size and snack size respectively) and I have a ton more options than just Oreo and whatever other flavor your respective country has if any other

About the icecream machine always being broken at McDonald's: it's probably not broken at all. I used to work there, and it's a fucking pain to refill. So when it's super busy, it's easier to just tell the customers that it's broken
That Oreo take is abysmal
There is a reason that Starbucks failed in Australia (outside touristy areas like airports), with huge loses and more than 50% store closures. They had absolutely no idea about the quality of the coffee market they were trying to enter. Where top baristas are eagerly headhunted by prestigious cafes, which will live or die on the quality of their coffee.
6:05 That's because Nabisco copied the Hydrox cookies and then outspent the Sunshine Biscuit company on advertising so no one knows about the Hydrox cookies.
Here in Australia we now can get a Creme Brulee Mcflurry or pie. The McFlurry is awesome!
endless menu options freakout is the modern moscow on the hudson coffee scene
I think we hit our official first Trash Taste of the year “Oreos are garbage”
3:40 I can explain the issue with Starbucks on Ubereats. The issue is that you order from a menu created by Uber not the restaurant you order from and after making an order Uber orders the food from the restaurant. I work at a restaurant and when we run out of a popular items we continue to get orders for it from Uber and other food delivery services. Thats when we start writing "Sold out ask for refund" on the receipt. Weve even had delivery drivers come to the restaurant just to find out that the order couldnt be made and, they had to call the customer to tell them to cancel the order and ask for a refund.
The thumbnail with Bo's Coffee breakfast had me thinking that is there a branch in Japan aside from the Philippines?
It's called Brunch Connor. Yeah, only in countries that has past history with the British Empire seems to do decent brunch.
Imperialism Apologist lmao
They don't know that in the EU the ice cream machines work 99% of the time and you do have a big selection of flavors/toppings
Really? Oreo McFlurry the worst McFlurry? Not M&M?
I like the Oreo McFlurry tbh. I like cookies and cream. They don’t break up the biscuit that much here at all.
Have they had a rolo Mcflurry? For those that don't know what a rolo is its bite sized milk chocolate with caramel
Love the subtle jab Garnt takes at Joey about TimTam's just to press his buttons hahaha
Full English breakfast is the greatest British export. And black pudding is a requirement.
worst* British export
Fish and chips from the chippy is nice too.
Beans are in my earnest american opinion NEVER meant to be a part of breakfast. Lunch/dinner fine but for BREAKFAST? Blasphemy
*however in regards to the english breakfsst dish i now realize is the thumbnail, thats a good breakfast yes*
@@TheHonestSage Beans are a god tier breakfast food. I don't know why Americans are so weird about it
The best English Export is the apple pie; That's right US citizens, the thing that you always say is "as American as" is an English invention.
Custard is also a great English Export.
McDonald's Japan always has a new McFlurry favor every month to go with their collab or sales campaign.
I have literally only once had a McDonald's tell me their ice cream machine was broken. I have never been able to relate with that common complaint lol
Boys. Gents. Lads.
FUCK a McFlurry. Next time you're in the states, hit up a Sonic. Or a Culver's, a Friendly's, or any place selling "concretes." You'll thank me.
best i got in my area is a jack in the box.
this Oreo and cookies and cream hatred hurts my soul lol
Not a local restaurant but a local music store for me. I have bought so much stuff from that place for like 8-9 years that they know to call me if anything interesting is in store(in my case is if anything was in a white color). They gave me free picks, free set up on my guitar and let me play with the drum kit when i waited for my bus. I bought like at least 10 guitars in that place, not to mention a couple of pianos, an unhealthy amount of guitar pedals, accessories and what not, and they closed down not too long ago because of the building itself. I was kinda devastated ngl.
Omg I subscribed the second you shit on Oreo Mcflurries haha
I can not believe how bad this McFlurry take is, Oreo is only one I'll ever get
An Oreo McFlurry with the chocolate syrup added >>>>>>
Oreo Mcflurry is the worst option? What- I feel attacked.
Honestly I only get a McFlurry if there isn’t a Dairy Queen in town, otherwise I’ll get a Blizzard, cause they come in more sizes than Kids cup and Shot glass ( regular size and snack size respectively) and I have a ton more options than just Oreo and whatever other flavor your respective country has if any other
The only option matter for me in coffee shop app is the size, if I carry a thermos cup I don't even need to click the size.
What an insane ice cream take
Oh man I love Black Thunder. They did some extra long almond ones a few years back and I used to freeze them and eat them. So good.
I have to try the Black Thunder McFlurry! That's my favorite Japanese candy.
The grubby little coffee hut around the corner from me can make any coffee drink a major franchise can. And they do it cheaper.
I still just get 4 shots with a splash of cream though.
WTF Garnt. Oreo McFlurry is the only McFlurry worth buying.
Oreos are definitely *bottom* tier
Canadian smarties mcflurry is hands down the best one
So then where does one get a good sub sandwich on japan, or lets say Tokyo?.
Connor needs to just make coffee at home lol
Oh my god oreo flavoured ice creams (and milkshakes) are amazing. Like and alt-chocolate flavor. The biscuit is alright.
Mcflurry's with fries is a surprisingly good W.
I've only ever known oreo Mcflurry my entire life and I fucking love it. Can't believe this slander.
Crap baskets, I know the feeling, bro. Had a breakfast spot I used to drop in at least every couple months, being a bit pricey for a limited income. Then I moved, and find out a year later they'd closed up shop. Ugh, WTF, man?!?
Japan done broke you boys. Oreo is the best McFlurry flavor. And Blizzard flavor if you have DQ.
Im listening to them ranting about coffee options after having finished my 13 hour shift on a saturday thinking "Im just happy to be here" lol
The starbucks in america is a character customization screen 😂😂😂
Garnt: Tim Tam's mid!
Joey: F*** off!
Y'all ordering coffee on ubereats. I don't wanna hear complaints
The McDonald's strawberry shortcake was my favorite as a kid- our swim teacher would treat us every time we got a gold medal 🥇. It was seasonal, but it was so good. I bet Japanese kids would like it, the love of strawberry shortcake is universal.🍰
Garnt talking smack about oreo mcflurry, very angy
man theyre lucky they can still get proper mcflurries, here in australia they dont mix them anymore bc maccas is getting rid of plastic, they're just fancy sundaes now😅
I tried getting a passion tea lemonade from Starbucks in Japan. They didn’t even have lemonade.
Truly living up to your name, I see.
To hear the Boyz talk about how much they love Black Thunder has me rolling.🤣
Honestly my Australian kicked in when Garnt called Tim Tam's mid. Luckily Joey verbalised my thoughts instantly with an elegant "Fuck off" truely a true countrymen.
