    Thank you so much for this video. I used to paint die on silk with a mineral spirit that is no longer available because it’s so toxic. The mineral spirit was mixed with the gutta. I also have done alcohol ink and so I could really take advantage of your technique. Thank you so much! I had about given up hope🐉

      My pleasure Gail, thanks for watching. Please be aware that alcohol inks and isopropyl alcohol also have fumes so it's best to wear a respirator mask and work in a well-ventilated area when painting silk scarves. Enjoy creating.😀

    I’m just curious. Is it possible to use an airbrush with silk paints? How much control would it offer?

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  2 года назад +1

      Hi Christine. First, these aren't silk paints specifically. In this video, I use alcohol inks on the silk. While I haven't used an airbrush while painting the silk scarves, I have used an airbrush when using alcohol inks on surfaces such as Yupo or Nara paper and ceramic tiles.

    Great video!! Do you place anything under the scarf, when you’re ironing it?? Because it probably will stain a bit, I would think??

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Год назад

      Sonia I have a cover on my ironing board, but I don't put anything on top of that cover (or under the scarf) when I iron. I iron the scarf when it is dry (not wet). I haven't had issues with staining. 😍

    2questions: where do you purchase scarves? What is the ratio cold water to vinegar??
    Guess what my friends are getting for Christmas??

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  3 года назад +1

      Chris, I purchase the silk online at Dharma Trading Co. I don't really measure the vinegar and water, I fill my bathroom sink. However, it's about a 1/2 cup to a cup of distilled white vinegar to probably a gallon or so of cold water. I also just learned about adding salt (about 2 tblsp.) to that as it also helps prevent fading. I bet your friends will love their Xmas scarves. Thanks a million!

    Ok Debra, so I gave this a try because the colors are beautiful [Thank you!]. But mine never go in straight cool lines like that. When I put the ink it botches into circles that give a cool texture at the end, but it's not what I want. I want each color to be without the dot spreading lines around them. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Even with alcohol they create even more circles.

    • @DebraAJason

      It’s hard for me to tell without seeing what you’re doing. Are you pouring the ink across in a line like you see me doing in the video?

    • @DebraAJason

      You can hand wash them in cold water with little, if any, mild soap. Rigorous washing is not recommended Smita.

    Question: Can we do this cotton T shirts? The movement of the ink would be different, I'm sure.
    And how do we do wash and dry? Does the ink leach out?

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Год назад

      I have not used alcohol inks on cotton t-shirts (or any other cotton garment). So, my apologies, but I cannot tell you if it will work on cotton or not. 😀

    Hi Debra, I’m wondering if the ink fades. I’ll heat set it but I’ve not tried this technique before so I’m wondering about the fade factor as alcohol inks do fade over time. Thanks in advance and for a great short and to the point video!

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Год назад +1

      Kathy, if you think about it, all clothes fade over time. I recommend that it is only washed by hand in cold water with little, if any, mild soap (and to not wash rigorously). All I can say is that, to date, I haven't had anyone tell me their scarf has faded. Thanks for watching the video. 🥰

      @DebraAJason - do we have to wash the silk first? If so, just with cold water ?

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Год назад +1

      @@karenlewis8836 sometimes I simply soak the silk in cold water before I begin - mostly to get the lines out of it (as it arrives folded from the silk vendor).

    Debra - I did the vinegar and salt twice - but when I rinsed a lot of the ink rinsed off - what am I doing wrong? Please

    • @DebraAJason
      @DebraAJason  Год назад

      A couple of things to consider: 1) did you like the inks dry before you put it in the vinegar/salt solution? 2) did you use cold water?
      It might also be the ink you're using. Only once did I have some red ink run after rinsing the scarf and I think it was because while it was wet, I was squeezing the scarf (to get rid of excess water) and the color bled.
