- In todays video, I was curious to see what would happen if I took the same bag of clothes to buffalo exchange, crossroads and wasteland. Here's how much each of them paid!

Crossroads actually would have paid more for the 4 items they wanted ($40.20), compared to Wasteland ($37.80). I usually sell my stuff at Crossroads, then take any leftovers to Buffalo Exchange, and then donate anything left to Goodwill. This was a great video idea!
I noticed that too!
Planning on doing this rn. Would sell online, but I need to get rid of items real quick. Also is there a limit to the amount of clothes to bring? I have a huge box of clothes and shoes.
@@cherriedubios4194 did you end up going? I have a huge box too that I want to bring to Crossroads but I don't want to be *that* person who makes an employee waste half an hour.
@@wiildn I'm in San Francisco & have been trying to reduce my wardrobe by half over the past month so this is obviously a great way to make some cash & not be wasteful. We've got all the same stores here but after visiting my Parents last week up North in Wine Country I discovered my first Platos closet. So today I started at Crossroads then hit Buffalo in the Mission & drove the hour to see my Mom, while they went for their after dinner walk I drove 5 minutes & dropped off what was left for a quick $40 at Platos Closet which isn't much but considering they were the last stop & pretty much emptied the bag I'm stoked!
It’s important to clarify these are not vintage stores. These are Resell shops. Vintage is an item 20 years but less than 100years. A vintage store is also usually curated to specific eras.
This is super important! BTW if it's more than 100 years, is it antique?
@@AllySheehan yes exactly 100 years plus is Antique 😊
accurate! which areas areas are for selling vintage clothes?
I wish people would just wear what they like instead of things “on trend”. Our culture is just so wasteful when it comes to clothing.
35 now and I wish I'd figurted that out in my 20s, lol. But I look at trends now and some are so ugly or ridiculous, tbh.
@@MeganSaidThis seriously haha. I don’t get a lot of the trends 😂
That’s why wealthy people create the most amount of waste, consequently are the worse for global warming
I agree, my closet is so small because I’m so particular about what I buy. But, a lot of people think on trend stuff are the cutest 🤷🏽♀️

Another video idea!: best places to sell your clothes online. In terms of profit, time, ease of use, etc. There are so many options.

I love the composition of the shot at 8:44 of you holding the check. You are well lit with wavy shadows from the tree above, also how the background is bright, but not so bright that the whites get blown out. Also, the subject in this short clip was very well focused with a nice depth of field. Had to compliment.
Yeah : she looked so adorable there though, wonder what happened to her twin.
Haven't seen her on my own youtube main page either for a while
Thrift shopping is fun and all until you find pieces that are cute that aren't in your size 😅

In my area we only have Plato's closet and uptown cheapskate. I definitely agree that it depends on the sales associate sometimes they're nice and willing to work with you and sometimes they're not. I also recommend not taking your clothes close to a closing time, even if it's an hour or two before they stop taking clothes, they're usually tired or annoyed by that time and won't really care to look through your clothes much. Just my experience.
we also only have Platos Closet they bought my Doc martens I used once for like $20 I for real felt like I got robbed 🙄
@@maricrisvecina5328 yeah girl it just depends with those places :/
This was a great video! & interesting to see that there's such a big discrepancy between how much you'd get at each place!
What a great video.....Well there is always a sudden feeling when we see some of your videos,It took my breath away!!!!
It must be my extreme good luck to have got a chance to see such a beautiful video.
Thanks once again guys!!!
Love this video & the concept❤ Although, the title really should state that these are consignment shops not vintage shops, since the clothing items sold aren't 20+ years old.
I would love to see more in this series! Especially including online consignment shops like ThredUp.
ThredUp is a joke, nobody should sell to them honestly. They reject a ton of stuff and then pay like 20 cents per item, lol. Plus I have bought from them and they mess up on descriptions often. They listed items with the wrong sizes 2x, sent me an item with paint smeared all over the back and that same item they said was a polka dot dress but when I saw it in person it had the overwatch logo, which from a distance in the photo looked like a polka dot. I also got a stained shirt. I have given them too many chances already and no longer waste my time, rather just donate my stuff, tbh.
@@MeganSaidThis While I do agree that their original selling/pricing model was predatory, I have tried it again recently and I think it has improved. Now it allows you to adjust the selling price of your items before they are listed. I sent in two boxes this summer and have made over $200 so far off of those boxes. they did mess up on the photos for one of my items when they listed it, but I contacted them and they revised the listing. While you can definitely get more value selling the items on Poshmark or at a local consignment shop, I like the convenience of ThredUp since I don't drive. I'm sorry they have messed up so many descriptions/condition reports for you when you purchased, I haven't had that experience but haven't purchased anything from ThredUp in the last couple of years. I understand that your experience may be very different than mine though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Noooooo, please no more thred up videos

Here in Finland, the vintage shops don't buy you when you take your stuff to them although they sell it out but I like the fact that they sell it at an affordable price and explicitly state where the charity money go to. Great video. Enjoy your weekend and stay safe
That's what thrift stores here in the US do as well 🙂 that's where I usually take my stuff. Although the exchange stores like in this video are definitely going to be picky about what they'll accept!
@@kate-ne I think do too.
Shelby I love your video ideas, they are always so simple but unique and interesting! Great video.
Why did you call them vintage shops? I wouldn’t consider any of these vintage shops, because nothing is vintage. These would be what I consider second hand/trendy consignment shops.
Definitely just a consignment shop
where i live its called charity shops and clothes are donated to the store not sold
Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
@@starr3060 There are donation-sourced thrift stores like that in the US too. That's where you take the stuff that curated resale shops won't buy.
Not to nitpick, but technically these aren't consignment shops, either. Consignment would entail leaving the items (usually high end clothing, jewelry, art, etc) with the seller and then getting your percentage when the item sells. The item still belongs to you until it sells.
I needed this video !!! Thanks Shelby 🙌🏼

Great video! Editing, camera, composition, content - excellent! I don’t know if anyone at Crossroads will ever see this, but you may want to finish filling out Crossroads on your spreadsheet so they don’t claim it was an unfair comparison. Especially since one of your commenters noted crossroads offered more for a couple items. You do an incredible job and you always come up with topics that are so interesting. You’re like a cool young millennial Martha Stewart (I mean that in a good way). You may have your own TV show someday (or whatever the evolution of TV becomes)!
Shelby, I so much enjoy all yours and Monica's videos because you both are so inspirational. You Are my two absolute favourites youtubers 👍🏼

So relaxing 💕
I’ve sold a handful of items at both crossroads and Buffalo exchange in the Chicago neighborhood of Andersonville. I’ve noticed that Buffalo exchange usually has wants more “edgy” clothes while Crossroads wants more “preppy” styles. For example I tried to sell a red outdoor voices hat to BF and they didn’t want it, while CR did. I think it definitely does depend on the sales person working on if they take your stuff. I’ve heard that if you bring the clothes on hangers or in a garment bag they make take it more seriously bc it looks well taken care of. There might be a great shirt in that trashbag of clothes but it feels like rummaging through the trash.
Love the stuff! Love from a fan!
Very informative video!!!!

I've only tried selling some of my "like new" things at Plato's Closet a few years back and they offered me around $50 for a bag about the size of the one you had. As a guy though, I felt like they were more lets just say "judgmental" about the fashion and the state that each piece was in (even though everything was washed and folded). I decided to just recycle (H&M or Zara have good programs) or donate my old clothing since then.
i’m so early! there’s a buffalo exchange where i live and the clothes are much different

It’s so scary walking in with your clothes. As the bringer of the clothes it feels like judgement and utter rejection when they don’t want it at all or offer you pennies for stuff you think is nice and paid kind of a lot of money for.😂
hahaha omg true honestly, its so interesting to see what they pick and don't pick!!
you’re not suppose to take it personally, it’s just clothes 🙄
Yeah, it’s not personal.
There has been a buffalo exchange in Vegas for over 20 years or more but I am not sure about the others. I have shopped furniture consignment the last few month but my apartment is now done. And a couple of thrift stores were I got some nice shot glasses and some matching wine glasses in perfect condition for 50 cents a piece. And I got a heavy duty 17 inch wok in perfect condition for $10 priced on Amazon was anywhere from $60 to $199 . You should do some thrift store videos.
What an awesome video idea!!

Maybe you could try this again with lower end, more common resale shops like platos closet and stuff. Then we’d have the best inside scoop.
We go to Rag o Rama here in Atlanta amd then whatever doesn’t sell we take to Buffalo Exchange. It seems that they don’t like buying a lot at once so there are usually several items that they return. Then we take them back a couple days later with a different employee and get an offer lol
I love crossroads in Berkeley! Always make good profit 👏🏻
I own 3 shirts in total and that's more than enough. Not into thrift shops but I always like watching Shelby's videos.
I've been trying to find spots to sell my clothes and it really does vary! I went to Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange two different times and the max amount of items I've been able to sell is like 5, which is crazy 😂 I've noticed the age demographic of the employees at Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads is generally 18-20 so that def could play into their styles and what they buy. I do really love Wastelands selection but I've never tried selling with them, great video Shelby!! 😊

I went to Buffalo in Berkeley once, and sold something for a very fair price. Not, sure but believe they have a style they are looking for if you fit this then they pay more

As someone that’s worked and managed at two different stores like these, I hope it brings you comfort to know I never judge the people. There were so many people that I would help and so. many. clothes I had to sort through that I didn’t even have time to think about the people bringing them in. And I sold it for around 55 dollars
My sis just dropped off a ton of clothes including BCBG, some still with tags on them...will Wasteland offer more $ for clothes with original store tags still on them? Thanks for the super informative vid!
I've heard they are more likely to take items if you bring in less...maybe something else to test
you get more selling stuff on FB marketplace than in any of these places

I live in San Diego and the closest Crossraods is in up in Orange County(Irvine).. we only have a Buffallo Exchange which is terrible. Buffallo used to give 35% cash back.. and then they lowered it to 30%.. and now its only 25%. It's not even worth selling at Buffallo Exchange anymore.
