Regarding Goodwill, you are wrong. They are the worst of handling donations. Watch videos and documentaries on them. I did. Containers and containers full of donations unprocessed, full of rats, snakes. No, what you donate is very likely ends up in a dump. The other disturbing fact is that the top management rakes in millions in yearly income while the workers make next to nothing. I will never give anything to Goodwill.

Womens shelters are a great place to donate clothing, too. The one near me offers facilities to women and children leaving a dangerous situation and many times the women have nothing but what they had on because they left in a hurry. So many great ideas in this video!

I had a Michael Kors bag in great condition but it was fabric and brown - a colour I don't wear often. A local consignment store specializing in higher end bags said it wouldn't sell as it was fabric and leather, not all leather. I also had a black dress made by a Canadian company (I'm in Canada) still with the tags on. I'd bought it just pre-pandemic for an event that was cancelled. I put both on FB marketplace and they sold for good prices.

Great tips! Another idea for helping you decide whether to donate or sell from your pile, is to sort them into nicer items (worth spending the time and energy to sell) and items that are common or have less life left (it would take too much time and effort to sell, for a very low return). I have a local consignment store that I use for the nicer items and I donate the rest to the thrift stores near me.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions where we can sell the clothes.
But all of these companies are in USA. Do you have any recommendations where an old clothes can be sold in Europe? Thanks

Where I live, charities rarely accept clothing donations, maybe only on one day per year or season. Then, the vast majority aren’t even looked at, the bags aren’t opened, they’re thrown directly into a dumpster that goes straight to the local landfill. As I only donate items in perfect condition, I would like for them to be worn, if possible. I donate the casual, comfortable ones to local homeless or women)’s shelters. Work clothes go to workplace-re-entry programs.

I’m glad you pointed out that not every piece of clothing is worth donating. If it’s in poor shape you’ve created a problem for someone to dispose of it and not a second opportunity

The girl that had clothes that her mother made could pick a couple of special pieces and get a shadow box to display them. That way every time she looks at them it will make her smile.
