Great ideas here ! I section my wardrobe first by season, ( I live in south central PA) , then by lifestyle , and then by color and sleeve lengths within each of those segments . I am retired and so have decided upon 4 areas of my lifestyle - at home, local errands and eating out ( I live in a rural setting ) , nicer travel and out- of - the - house clothing, and finally , church and dressier occasion items. Capsule wardrobe by color shows me where ‘ the holes are” for any needed purchases . I have considered a monthly rotation of accent colored clothes, as I have and love a variety of them , while retaining a base core of neutrals with which to pair them. Of course, the neutrals become lighter or darker, depending upon the season. I am still working on just how many garments I want to keep for each of those lifestyle and seasonal color areas . I’m a bit of a color chameleon, but I recognize the finite limitations of my closet spaces , and don’t want it to feel jammed !
I loved the idea of garanimals when I was young too. I'm retired and have a lot of fun clothes and accessories. The only time I have utilized a capsule wardrobe is traveling because I can't take everything. I'll never be a minimalist but I like your idea of a monthly capsule wardrobe and color capsule wardrobe, just for a challenge that could be fun.
Right after Christmas I was getting desperate because it was taking me up to 20 minutes to find an outfit to wear. I had so many clothes I literally could not choose! So I made up about 7 outfits from clothes I had been wearing the last week and started hauling the excess out of the bedroom. As that was going on I unearthed more clothes I would like to have worn but that had been buried under the excess. So I added them to the 7 outfits. Shortly I realized I was creating a winter capsule wardrobe! Anyway, I plan to do a Spring Wardrobe too and I liked your idea about the colors. Color coordinate a mini wardrobe inside of the Capsule wardrobe. Great idea!
These videos are really resonating with me. I tend to only shop for work/church/going out clothing. But I also have many casual/athletic/outdoors activities and am never happy with the too few items that work for this part of my life. I need to work out this capsule pronto!
Garanimals!!!! Oh how fun that would be to have a company like that now for adults! And colors for each animal could be worked off colors in nature.....the marketing in me is showing! Love the video!
Thanks for sharing your feedback! I have a question for you. Why did you keep digging into the rest of your wardrobe? Were you bored with the options, did the capsule not fit your lifestyle needs, or did you feel like your capsule wasn't large enough? I'd love to know!
@@shoppingonchampagne hi thanks for replying. I felt my capsule wasn't big enough like you I like colour and most of my capsule was neutral colours. Ivr got lots of pink and other bright colours in my wardrobe I also purchase clothes often which I'm trying to stop doing that's why I wanted to try the capsule idea. I'm in the UK and there lots of thrift shops around which are very tempting because the clothes are so cheap but you end up buying too much which is a problem in itself
My wardrobe is organized by season. This really works for me even living in the desert!! I grew up this way and this just continues to work best for me!!! We do get cold weather here but we have extremly hot weather in the summer!!!
I love your capsule wardrobe series. Finally I seem to have understood the ideas behind it. Sorting according to colours is something I do for travelling, according to seasons as well. In the past I was too restrictive when attempting a capsule. From now on I should plan for my desire for quirky things. I hope that then it will work better.
Hi Nancy. I create capsule outfits to match my handbags. Usually about 7 looks. Then I get bored of that handbag and switch it out and create new outfits to match the next bag. This way I'm not having to switch out my purse each time I wear a different look. It's quite fun. It's fun to shop my closet. Also, I create outfits by choosing a color for the week. This method is quite simple to accomplish and I end up looking well put together.
Really great ideas I never would have thought of without this! I babysit on Fridays for my granddaughter, work part time and spend weekends with hubby dining, hiking, gardening, etc. I’m going to divide my clothes based on my lifestyle and days of the week! Thank You!
I actually have a hybrid capsule effectively, my wardrobe is seasonal, organized by activity, and I colour code the bottoms. My tops are prearranged so I only have to choose bottoms to go with my top when I get dresssed.
Loved the Garanimals concept😆 I did not realize until recently that for 20 + years as I travelled for work, I was creating a capsule wardrobe for each business trip. I chose clothes that I felt my best in, I used a colour palette, I limited myself to one pair of shoes that went with everything, each piece had to be part of more than one outfit, and it all fit in a carry-on suitcase. I could literally “ pull” the pieces in my mind as I drove home from the office the day before I left. All I had to do when I got home was physically put them in the suitcase. I just need to apply these principles (with some flexibility) to my non-travelling wardrobe!
I create monthly capsules that highlight 2 of my bold colors at a time. I have neutral basics that I use every month but then sprinkle in different color combos monthly.
I am so very happy that you have validated my most recent TAKE or ATTEMPT (lol) on capsule wardrobes. I have a beautiful store display rack that I purchased when our Macy's went out of business. The left side are peachy pinks and the right side are sky blues and whites and camels. 2 capsules. I'm at peace and know I can't change my capsules out when the season changes. I live in Central Florida. Thank you love your channel.
Hello Nancy I absolutely love your youtube video's. I would love u to advise me please about what kind of trousers I need to have in my wardrobe. I only wear jeans and leggings but would love to try wearing different trousers. Many thanks, jayne from England xxx
I do remember garamimals but I never wore them. Maybe I was a little too old when they came out? I also remember articles on capsule wardrobes in women's magazines over the years. Oh how I wish I had paid attention! 😅 Well now I'm hooked. I am into the monthly capsule right now; I don't think I could stick with the same grouping for an entire season. I've also been watching the channel "My Over 50 Fashion Life"; she does a monthly capsule where she can close her eyes and pick an outfit because she knows it's going to work 🤗.
Winter can depressing so I put some spring colors in my winter clothing. Spring tops can be worn under sweaters .jackets or under other clothing my way works for me.

Very interesting I've tried to do a capsule but I keep digging into the rest of my wardrobe

I like seasonal capsules. Variety and color. Also have a travel capsule.
Yes, I bought those Garanimal clothes for my children back in the 70’s
Lifestyle makes a lot of sense!
I'm glad you found it helpful, Karol! 😍
Yes, I remember Garanimals!

Thanks for sharing! I love that, Natalie! 😀
That makes sooooo much sense. Thank you so much for the inspiration. BTW, I love the colors of your clothing, even when I wear mainly neutrals!
Garanimals yes!!
My capsules for lifestyle: work from home, dog training/agility, ranch chores/horses, going out/to town, church

That is a super idea! I just realized I had been carrying my black handbag all Winter! What a waste!

I never thought of doing it monthly. Interesting idea. It's so hot and humid here....I'm sure I wear more summer than anything.
Oh I like all the ideas and suggestions for different types of capsules! Thank you
I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Casey! 😍
This is really helpful, so obvious too! thank you so much

In high school, we had Units which I thought of as a grown up Garanimals. (Late 80s). I think they were by Benetton.
Hi Cynthia, Oh yes, I remember Units, too! 😀
I do remember garamimals but I never wore them. Maybe I was a little too old when they came out? I also remember articles on capsule wardrobes in women's magazines over the years. Love it! I'll have to check out that channel, too! 😍
Garanimals was a great clothing line for kids. I think it was at J.C.Penney.
I think I'll try the monthly challenge!
Yay! Let me know how it goes for you, Stephanie! 🤩
Yes, I remember garanimals! I thought it was such a great concept. Another great video.
Wish they still did the tags that would be a great help
My brothers loved garanimals👍🏽
Winter can depressing so I put some spring colors in my winter clothing. Spring tops can be worn under sweaters .jackets or under other clothing my way works for me.
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing your multi-seasonal wear tip! 🤩
I have wished they had garanimals for my husband. School uniforms then 40 years in scrubs😂🙄
No offense but I’m soooo tired of hearing “capsule wardrobe”. 🙄. It’s an overused word for favorites to me. Ugh.
