- Hi Guys! I'm very proud to be part of this incredible project by Sebastiaan Cornelissen, He is currently working on an album honoring the music by Allan Holdsworth taken as Jazz-standards with world-class instrumentalists.

Hell yeah, it's about time that Allan's music starts getting the treatment it deserves
I agree. The thought of Holdsworth's genius being embraced by Matteo and him exposing it to his generation is incredible.
I don't know where you've been living, but he has been venerated by all the pro guitarists and hundreds of thousands of discriminating jazz-rock fusion fans across the world as the GOAT since the 70's. Of course, there are plenty of non-discriminating fusion lovers who swear by Shawn Lane, but that's another story. The annals of music history don't start when YOU discover certain segments of it.
During an interview in Japan, Allan explained that his music seemed to be too "jazz" for rock radios and too "rock" for jazz radios so nobody knowed him excepted a bunch of fans. A big part of these fans were musicians too. That was similar enough with Shawn Lane but Shawn died at 40.
Not many alive could play this stuff, even fewer could do it justice.
Mr. Mancuso, you never fail to impress me with the way you really capture the tone and essence of other such fine musicians.
Saw Allan perform 14 times and heard your tribute and it brought tears to my eyes....😢..thank you...
I usually lock into the guitarist's left (fretting) hand when watching videos like this. But in this case, I simply couldn't take my eyes off his right hand. It is a 2-minute master class on finger-style picking.
The amazing thing is that Matteo can get into Allan head and perfectly replay the sounds that Allan brought into the world. Allan would be happy about it and many would only wonder how it can be done! Matteo can do it!
I'm not sure that Allan would be happy about it. He often mentioned in interviews that he didn't like guitarists copying his style of playing or writing because he believed in everyone trying to develop their own style. One thing I am sure of is that he would be more than impressed by Matteo's chops and musicality, just like he admitted being impressed by Frank Gambale's technique. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather listen to a guitarist like Matteo doing fantastic renditions of other players' tunes or writing great compositions in those styles than being exposed to mediocre products of someone else trying to be original at all costs and failing.
Matteo is not "perfectly replaying Allan's sounds". His solos are a creation of his own in the style of Holdsworth. He is the only one that has Allan's technique and musicality for a successful reinterpretation of the Master without any compromises.
Matteo is one of my favorite young guitarists...and having followed the likes of Allan since 1977...it's no small feat to get on my list!
What I love about this kid’s style (besides obviously having insanely fine technique + unique improv skills) is that every note he hits is tasteful and not overly done like many of the shred masters... just amazing

The incredibly fluid soloing is great enough, but I love the way he also convincingly presents Allan's chord voicings, that involves some serious stretches!

WOW .... as a HUGE AH fan, this was a close as you can get to this type of playing now that our beloved is gone. I've been watching Matteo for a while now and marveling at his technique and loving how he stays musical and melodic while tackling some absolutely impossible scales and runs. Matteo can literally play ANYTHING flawlessly. I't scary to think what he'll be doing 10 years from now - when he'll still be only 37 !!
You have an incomparable technique, but the most impressive is that you manage to convey the soul of Allan Holdsworth. Magnificent

I used to play the violin and remember how much my enthusiasm for playing took off when I mastered the vibrato, the chief producer of the silky tone on that instrument. I'm pleased to see Matteo using the vibrato - something that guitarists don't consider to be an absolutely necessary technical device.

Altissima considerazione, un plauso per l'affinamento continuo e la disinvoltura di esibizione della raffinata tecnica che non sembra risentire minimamente del grado di difficoltà dei brani holdsworthiani. Ma un plauso anche per la sensibilità dell'interpretazione, testimoniata dall'attenzione alla dinamica, ai tempi degli slides, alla pulizia di esecuzione di ogni singola nota. Cervello, mano e cuore in un insieme irripetibile. Un talento che il mondo c'invidierà sempre di più!

Matteo, simply a superior mind. Everything starts from the brain. Technique, musical creative ideas, phrasing, musicality and more are direct consequences. First of all, he has an incredible head, that's what I think. In every musical genre his performance is the top.

PLEASE do a tribute to Shawn Lane. Allan Holdsworth was his most admired guitarist. I still have not heard any covers of his stuff w/ Jonas Hellborg and Jeff sipe. I know YOU can breath some life into the late and great Shawn Lane.
Replicating what Shawn did would be almost impossible, but I would love to see his take on it

@@yalikejazz4380 yeah, lane was deep. His albums have virtually no shred. a burst here and there. He was incredibly educated on his own, and did not have a singular style.
@8palms5fists please dive in more in Shawn’s music. Not that it matters but Shawn was one of the most gifted guitar players ever if not the most gifted. Yes he could shred, like no other, but you wont hear him do that very often in his songs. The emotion his tone and technique and playing gave me is beyond words. His simple bends at the right time are just phenomenal. Music is subjective, but technically speaking, no one could top Shawn. Allan Holdsworth was Shawn’s hero, he took a lot of things from Allan. Allan made some classics, but for me, his music can be too monotonic and ‘boring’. I respect him a lot, but his music is not for me.
