I remember watching a video of Guthrie Govan a few years back and commenting that I can't imagine another guitarist coming along that could be more fluid and versatile than him... Well, I STAND CORRECTED!!!
First time I've seen/heard this guy play - what sets him apart from my perspective is that he genuinely makes music...he has a grasp of melody and feel to his fast playing...it is NOT just amazing speed and dexterity...he is making MUSIC with great emotion and FEEL !!
So, this 25 year old from Italy can play confidently - obscenely confidently - through Holdsworth's "Fred" AND Mason's "Hot Wired," while also, at that age, having developed a wildly creative and impressive style all his own? Okay, yep, I'm sold, 100%! I love this guy.
He's probably not as strong (yet) as either of those players, nor at the level of Al Dimeola in his prime, nor close to Paco who was also of course fingerstyle. But he is fantastic, and beyond the technical ability aspect, one of the most musical players out there now. I'd put him at almost the level of Guthrie (Govan). He is something special no doubt.
@@stevewilcock4767 Honestly I think Allan was capable of anything he could imagine but John? Not so much...two genius musicians none the less✌️🏴
Imposible compare this kid with galactus holdsworth. Holdsworth was more complex and unpredictable from horn vocabulary. Guitar for him was just a tool. Besides, allan didnt need play with two hands for his solos. Just with one huge hand! Come on!
unbelievable! He plays with speed but not just runs of speedy arpeggios but heartfelt phrases. My mouth was literally hanging open while I listened. I'll remember this name!
Just. Freaking. Wow. When you're impressing guys like Steve Vai, you're really doing something special. And I'll echo other posters: It's not just the chops, though the kid has all-universe-level chops for sure. But listen to his FEEL. Listen to how fluently he switches styles. Listen to his tone. This is a musician, and I can give no higher compliment than that.
Everybody’s talking about his phrasing! Yeah I’d say that’s what’s getting me too. I haven’t been blown away like this since the first time I watched Guthrie Govan play. Astounding.
99? I would say 100% of guitar players who aren't him can't do what he does. Sure, I would never go so far as to say so-and-so is better than this other guy since it's all just about personal preference, but I think he stands clearly on his own just in terms of incredible technical ability and speed combined with amazing feel, and being able to play across seemingly infinite genres and I don't think it's possible to confuse him with another person. His finger picking while sweeping totally blows my mind though. Edit: Sorry, guess I didn't really clarify this point, when I say nobody else can do what he does, I mean that everyone has their own unique way they play. In that regard, nobody else does what he does.
When Steve Vai says you're next level you are doing something right. His left hand is so fluid but it's the right hand doing some real crazy shit. I'd love to know just what it was this young man put up for stakes at the crossroads, in any case it would appear he won.
Is anyone going to ask if he can compose? I hope so because that is what seals the deal. What does HIS music sound like. Sure, commoners can see he is fast and smooth, and guitar players get blown away by the talent, but does this just translate into another session player career? Matteo, as a big Holdsworth fan, I love hearing your playing - how are your compositions going? Much success Matteo!
He scares me. Truly one of the best of the 21 century. He's easily one of the best guitar players ever. His fadt and tastful licks are out of this world.
Wow. I grew up listening to all kinds of things like Dixie Dregs,Pat Matheny and on and on. I love making noise trying to emulate all the classic rock tunes but I was always aware of the amazing musicianship of these type of artists. This guy and a few others just make my brain glitch. Such a different level.
I just love his videos where he is playing other instruments legendary solos, intrincate improvs by Coltrane, Dizzy, Charlie Parker... note by note... just amazing!
Somebody help me!!! Pick my whole body up off the ground! Matteo is extraordinary, plain and simple. For such a young age, his technique is second to none. LOVE this kid!!! Bravissimo!!
The guitar community needed new talent to *really* take the instrument into this millennium - not just Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen etc etc. All these famous names are without a doubt still very valid, impressive and musically relevant, but still it is based on what they developed last century. I'm stunned by the skills of young people like Mateo, but even more so by their dedication to their instrument!! Who said young people can't invent anything anymore?? 😀 The new generation will come up with sounds and techniques us old guys (I'm 57) never could even dream of. And that's as it should be 😎👍🙏
his articulation is trully unbelievable ...there is a bunch of shredding machines out there (especially in the jazz fusion genre) but none of them has reached this stellar level IMHO

relax dude. he might have the technique of holdsworth but in terms of note choices, phrasing and chord voicings, allan is just in another universe, basically an alien. but kudos to this guy. it's probably as close as mortals can get
@@hazardeur I agree. Some here are going over the top a bit. Yeah the dude can really play great but to be honest i did not get the same feeling like it did when i first seen/heard Lane, Holdsworth, EVH(in 1978) ,Malmsteen(1983),etc.
Technically, not even close to Shawn Lane.🤣It terms of style versatility, not even close to Bumblefoot / Buckethead.🤣
I agree, let's not get too crazy, holdsworth and lane are untouchable
@@hazardeur Excellent comment...
What makes ppl different is the fact that u do and find your style that alone makes u stand out
He plays like he's lived a hundred life times! Astounding!
That’s what I thought! Saying that….I’ve a few friends who are not the far behind him. Great plays.
Absolutely.
@@martrinshyde You need to get them on here. It's great to hear all these up-and-coming musicians
Just discovered him. What I like most is that along with his incredible ability is how musical he is. Look forward to following his career.
I'm a huge fan of Matteo. He's got the technique but first of all he plays so beautifully.
Reminds me so much of Larry Carlton, so smooth, so precise, melodic, just beautiful. What an extraordinary talent.
He way beyond Larry
More advanced musical consciousness but love Larry as well but ....,...this kid is the bar
Unreal talent. Love the fingerpicking mixed with a jazz fusion style. Technique is flawless.
Love his Style!
I remember watching a video of Guthrie Govan a few years back and commenting that I can't imagine another guitarist coming along that could be more fluid and versatile than him... Well, I STAND CORRECTED!!!
He is not more versatile than Guthrie in my opinion. Guthrie's rhythm playing is off the charts.
He’s only young, give him another couple of years, it can only get better .
@@johnwilkes681 Totally agree. For versatility like Guthrie I stated where he needs to begin to excel.
Matteo is a freakish lead guitarist.
Was looking for a Guthrie comment.
@Viet Nguyen fair enough. You must admit that his soloing and improvisation skills are, at the least, equal to Guthrie's.
Not normal !!!. What a talent !!.
Also young Josh Meader is a monster player and on the same level like Matteo.
Agreed, he is.
I have no words.
First time I've seen/heard this guy play - what sets him apart from my perspective is that he genuinely makes music...he has a grasp of melody and feel to his fast playing...it is NOT just amazing speed and dexterity...he is making MUSIC with great emotion and FEEL !!
Couldn't have put it any better myself!
Phenomenal guitarist
This guy needs a band, quickly!
Even his technique is very unique, i must say his tone, phrasing and musicality is even greater. He's just fantastic.
Matteo is like Allan Holdsworth and John
Mclaughlin on speed!
Mind blowing.
Have more respect for those 2 legends, Holdsworth reached out of this world speeds, and so Mclaughlin.
@@mikeanaro And yet,Allan and John
didn't see eye to eye.
Come on!
Him and Guthrie Govan should be an impressive and godly collab!
unbelievable!
Mateo Mancuso number one !!👍👍🙏🎸🎸
Hard to disagree with that :)
@@facemelters is no it ? 😉
Everybody’s talking about his phrasing! Yeah I’d say that’s what’s getting me too. I haven’t been blown away like this since the first time I watched Guthrie Govan play. Astounding.
That kid is fantastic. His style is the same as the great Danny Gatton's . Long live Danny Gatton!
"from rock to blues to Holdsworth" Allan you are a genre now.
The guy is a prodigy. 99 plus percent of guitar players cannot do that.
Much success Matteo!
he just released a solo album, go check it out
Check „Drop D“ for example, it‘s a delectation.
Brilliant. Period. Once in a lifetime player.
He scares me. Truly one of the best of the 21 century. He's easily one of the best guitar players ever. His fadt and tastful licks are out of this world.
No
@@maugrinder
Yes
Thank you Matteo for a slice of magic.
Wow. I grew up listening to all kinds of things like Dixie Dregs,Pat Matheny and on and on. I love making noise trying to emulate all the classic rock tunes but I was always aware of the amazing musicianship of these type of artists. This guy and a few others just make my brain glitch. Such a different level.
Good luck to anyone attempting to do covers of his material! You're going to need it! Incredibly unique technique!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
The new generation will come up with sounds and techniques us old guys (I'm 57) never could even dream of. And that's as it should be 😎👍🙏
Tim Henson comes to mind
Best music was around '60-'80, doesn't matter the type. And will remain the best ... forever.
Guthrie govan… 15 yrs ago
his articulation is trully unbelievable ...there is a bunch of shredding machines out there (especially in the jazz fusion genre) but none of them has reached this stellar level IMHO
An absolute beast! Followed him for 5 years now
Hardcore Mancuso fan in the house! Only discovered him a month ago 😳
5 years now for me also. I'm surprised that there's no clips of his original trio back when he first broke
Some can make amazing sounds, Matteo makes amazing music.
toca muito! grande talento!
This is why I'm glad I learnt mos ly without a pick as it gives you that ability to hit multiple strings at the same time and then tap harmonics instantly
Wow! He's got a good balance between styles.
Whaddya mean? It's basically one style until he did that country stuff.....not discounting his ability....just sayin.
Magnificent! He takes the rest stroke to whole new level, and it is not mindless speed.
He must have dropped or lost his pick too many times, and simply gave up on picks.
sounds better without a pick - as did many before him.
Lol!! 👏
😂😂😂 Agreed with ya
Picks are limiting
yes, like I do, feelin" free on Guitarplaying
I would also suggest checking out Julian Lage, esp playing Autumn leaves solo and playing scales in random order. Not only techniqually mind blowing but his imagination is on the highest level.
good to know there are a few guitarists that still work on their phrasing, taste and emotion and not only on speed.
Unbelievable. I've only recently discovered Matteo. I'll be watching for more.
