    I've seen Matteo playing few years ago on YTube and I immediately realized how talented he is. It's not just about mastering the instrument with total confidence and speed. He's using the guitar to express himself, as a tool for his language. I think this skill is a gift that only few people have. I can hear a message when Matteo is playing, the same way as I hear it when I listen to other geniuses though their language (music) may be different like Paul McCartney, J. Lennon, Leo Kottke, Martin Taylor, Mark O'Connor, David Grisman, Neil Young, Pino Daniele, Pat Matheny, LV Beethoven, J S Bach and so many others. Well done Matteo, keep going.

    My favorite right now is Mateo! I've heard a lot of criticism from guitar players, it's not just mathematical, sterile playing, I do hear the soul in his playing. It's so obvious that these people are seriously jealous 😁 and I get it, but his talent cannot be denied!

    My interest in music spans across multiple genres but I would have to say that the harmonic sophistication of jazz interests me the most. It's not about it being a contest about what's the most complex. I just find it more interesting, more possibilities than the confines of blues rock pentatonic universe. I still love a lot of rock and blues music, definitely. It's about contrast and variation and new sounds. With that said, it seems that a lot of people who mainly love rock based music are more in awe of Matteo for his shredding/chops/lots of notes/fast component. Sure, that's impressive, especially his right-hand technique. However, for me it's how he *applies* his knowledge of music in general and his use of sophisticated jazz harmonics, etc. It's the *notes*, not how many of them there are. I think I would love this guy's playing even if he played with a pick and his technique was half of what it is, because what he would be playing would still be creative and compelling melodically and harmonically.

    • @Cranio76
      @Cranio76 8 месяцев назад +1

      Nailed it. Of course I love "shredding" and technical playing, especially with such a novel approach to electric guitar soloing - but the man stands on the shoulders of giants also when it comes to phrasing, the confidence he has is just mindblowing.

      What I'm saying here is that, there are genius virtuosos, and then there are genius writers, my music professor told me once, "all the virtuoso artists would give their right hand to be able to write like the icons do". Which is quite a weird and incorrect opinion since a good player does not mean a good composer. Certainly Beethoven is not the best piano or violin player in history altough he was amongst the best composers fir both instruments. Genial outstanding players frequently never composed, Yehudi Menuhin to quote just one. Only in modern guitar and frequently rock there is that silly tendence to mix composing and playing with the absurd result that very bad players are considered very good guitarists because they compose beautiful solos or riffs. Being a virtuoso and mastering the instrument is what means being a great player. The rest is subjective useless opinions, generally by non musicians.

    I don't mind admitting that Matteo is incredible, but... let's not forget Guthrie Govan! Both of those guys have ridiculous chops and can play virtually any and every musical genre. I do think Guthrie is more comfortable with playing outside (no, not outdoors!) , or at least he does so more frequently than Matteo. There's also this young guy from Australia named Joshua Meader who's in that league though you don't hear about him as much. He does a lot of transcriptions of solos of everyone from Michael Brecker to Allan Holdsworth, memorizes them and plays it all flawlessly. But he's a great improviser and composer as well. Matteo blows me away, but I'm just saying he's not necessarily the undisputed king of modern guitar.

    Fantastic ability but needs to create something to stand the test of time to be able to join the immortal category... he may only be 26 but hendrix released are you experienced at 25, clapton was 21 in cream, Brian May 27 when they released bohemian and as for george harrison....... ridiculous output by the same age. None as fast or technical but songs still known 60 years later. Virtuosity can become niche as well, Alan Holdsworth and John Mclaughlin (both originating from near where i come from) were also virtuosos but didnt match the mass 'fame' of the others as their viruosity wasnt as popular. Matteo seems a great guy I hope he does really well in years to come.

    You know they say that you can't really determine who the best guitar player is which is true, but if you ask guitarists, most of them would agree that it is either Guthrie Govan or Matteo Mancuso.

    its really amazing .. 1000000 times sorry .. as a very low class guitarist my self .. we all confirm that music is a language .. language is based on letters, words ,phrases .. some of these giants talented guitarists out of their amazingly long practise they finalize in playing very very fast scales and arpeggios .. maybe i am wrong but i do not figure out in their playing the real communication with the scope of music as a language, so music ends up to become scales and arpeggios.. that any any talented guitarist can do out of practising hours and hours.. but the real communication with music it self is hiding in higher level.. they play very fast riffs but they don't speak although they are real talents .

    Matteo is absolutely among the greats, His finger picking on nylon string guitar is as great as his electric playing. Matteo's original writing, arrangement, composition, tone, cadence, feel, timing, in fact everything about his playing is about as close to perfection as humanly possible. Matteo always balances his profoundly beautiful melodic sensibility with blazing pyrotechnics that are always tasteful.
    Today there are a few others who occupy that space with him, Stephanie Jones, Josh Meader, Evgeny Pobozhiy and bass players, Mohini Dey and Michael Popoquhina.
    Also a shout out to Kevin Eubanks. While he is not an up and coming Virtuoso, but an established master who never received the recognition he so richly deserves.

      There's no best , I'd say Hendrix or Gilmore are in the Top 5 as the lyrics to their music mean more than guitar 🎸 notes if that makes sense , young Di Matteo needs to learn how to write ✍️ songs , Imagine if George Harrison or John Lennon only played guitar ? The Beatles would have sucked
