"Can I have more monitors please? Alaaalaalahalalalaaaauuuummmmore please? Mmmm. Okay. I feel like I'm just hearing the house right now and nothing else. Hi guys. Sorry 'bout all this. Can I have more please? Thank you." Even the banter makes me swoon.
I knew she had something original with her voice, and I knew that she was an amazing songwriter, but I never knew she was such a talented harp player. The part starting at 3:10 is seriously insane!
oh my god I love Joanna so much she's just so sweet.. great concert here in Portugal Aula Magna Lisbon 2007... I was there! I'l never forget it one of the best moments of my life :)
@gnitleinad monitors are the speakers for the sound on stage, they need to be loud enough so that the sound of the speakers directed to the audience don't overpower her own sound. in other words, it's so she can hear herself better. when playing with a more full band, they are very important, cause other band members can overpower your own sound on stage.
My son introduced me to "Sprout and the Bean" from the movie The Strangers" So, I got us tickets to see her live in Tampa at the Ritz. She did this song, and Colleen, my two favorites! They were great that night!
I heard her collaboration with The Roots in 2010 long before discovering her music just last night and today. She is amazing and reminds me of Kate Bush in her style. Late to the party but glad I found her!
@MrMudfan You and your daughter are filled with life :) Mind you, it is difficult for children to escape the allure of pop culture icons. We all had to live through it and thankfully the majority of us survived :)
I killed my dinner with karate Kick 'em in the face, taste the body Shallow work is the work that I do Do you want to sit at my table? My fighting fame is fabled And fortune finds me fit and able
I think that speaks more to the people that enjoy her music than it does the music itself. The Beatles made amazing music but people still didnt shut up during the concerts.
i think i like when she sings live better than on that cd:) this songs so pretty..but the only way i would no about this song is cuz of that cell phone commercial haha :D
@TheJakwak Yup, get used to it. Just remember crap is more buoyant so it tends to float to the top :D Its your job to sift through it all and find the gems.
@gitchigoomi There are more than two opinions on a subject, not just mine and yours. Look at her music from an objective point of view, and she has a ton of musical merit.
@gitchigoomi Do you have any idea about music or how it is constructed or written? Clearly you don't, because if you did you would be able to put your opinions aside and appreciate her for the artist that she is.
Hahaha yeah this is the first time I've heard this song (though I've loved Ys for a long time), and what she does rhythmically in this song is pretty tight. All it takes is practice, though.
Why are you so angry? I don't know why I connected the two, it was just a random thought I had. I personally just don't agree with Ayn's interpretation of things, and for some reason as I was caught up in the aura of Joanna's kindness, had this random thought. I'm not creating divisiveness, I'm making a comment.
why do people have to comment :( Even when you say something true it makes it collective and destroys its originality. People who comment are immorally selfish at the expense of others watching. I encourage you to be morally selfish and enjoy it independently and hold your thoughts, they become sentimental instead of internet waste.
I'm glad this has been on youtube for longer than 10 years. I return to it every few months.
"I killed my dinner with karate, kick it in the face taste the body, shallow work is the work that I do."
And I'm just realizing this is why I love Strangers
Everythng about her is charming and amazing. I love how percise all of her notes and pronunciations are.!! I cant stop listening.
whoever dislikes this video obviously lacks the knowledge of what true beautiful music really sounds like.
"Can I have more monitors please?
Alaaalaalahalalalaaaauuuummmmore please?
Mmmm. Okay. I feel like I'm just hearing the house right now and nothing else.
Hi guys. Sorry 'bout all this.
Can I have more please? Thank you."
Even the banter makes me swoon.
so unbelievably talented
I simply adore this woman. Forever grateful we have such a talented genius in music.
i fell like everything is so simple amd complicated at the same time. this song makes me want to understand the universe and it's existence
How could anyone dislike this. She's an awesome musician and lyricist, and she's beautiful inside and out. She's a trifecta.
Hands down her best performance of the song ❤
words cannot describe how awesome this woman is.
I love this woman.
Still loving this in 2019/2020
In a class of her own~ i admire her uniqueness and intelligence
I knew she had something original with her voice, and I knew that she was an amazing songwriter, but I never knew she was such a talented harp player. The part starting at 3:10 is seriously insane!
The 'change' at 3:46 is toooooo good.... Sublime .
I saw her with my 25 yr old son last yeat in Tampa (I'm 54) and it was one cool concert! She was amazing!!!
beautiful. brings on applause followed by a broad smile.
this girl brings me shivers down my spine .. .
oh my god I love Joanna so much she's just so sweet.. great concert here in Portugal Aula Magna Lisbon 2007... I was there! I'l never forget it one of the best moments of my life :)
The Book is Right On !
She's mesmerizing - both to listen to and watch.
Потрясающе!!
This is real music
"the sound of people listening" - i like how you put it
she has such a lovely and blasting voice!! i cant believe that's possible to sound that amazing - its like inner peace immidately :)))
she had me at 'mmmm'
Joanna Newsom live is almost a religious experience. I saw her a couple years ago and I felt like I had just spent an hour and a half in heaven.
My son introduced me to "Sprout and the Bean" from the movie The Strangers" So, I got us tickets to see her live in Tampa at the Ritz. She did this song, and Colleen, my two favorites! They were great that night!
i seriously fell in love wit her!
Absolutely magic!! *-*
one of my favourite
This one and Colleen and she played both when I saw her live in Tampa! Just an amazing show!!!
I heard her collaboration with The Roots in 2010 long before discovering her music just last night and today. She is amazing and reminds me of Kate Bush in her style. Late to the party but glad I found her!
shes so gifted!

ALL I CAN SAY IS AWESOME!

This is one of those songs
Holy crap, I read this comment and was waiting for it and my jaw dropped. That was... wow.
I love you Joanna!!!
she is beautiful
I love it...there is something genuine going on here......
Thank so much for putting these videos online! I saw her on this tour in NC, and am so happy to relive it!
As far as I've seen, she's just awesome all around.
simplemente increible
Maan great song my hands would hurt alot if I played that long
HERMOSO!
@MrMudfan You and your daughter are filled with life :) Mind you, it is difficult for children to escape the allure of pop culture icons. We all had to live through it and thankfully the majority of us survived :)
Ok but why am i crying
Damn She got me
I think I prefer this live version to the recorded one. Both good but really like this.
Great performance!!
The beginning is nice **
I just wish she would've continued that extended version at 3:40 for like a minute or so that would've become like a memorable moment...
real music.
when i hear this music im really wondering about her story, about her feelings and thoughts
Omg I love her so much lol
@lindsayheehee11 OMG! i looked it up from the commercial as well. and now im in love with her stuff. i like the way this particular concert sounds.
can I have more please
Insanity the level of talent of certain people. I really feel inadequate after watching this. Pure beauty…
...am i mishearing or is she really saying
I killed my dinner with karate
at 1:34?
I killed my dinner with karate
Kick 'em in the face, taste the body
Shallow work is the work that I do
Do you want to sit at my table?
My fighting fame is fabled
And fortune finds me fit and able
nope, she said That
check the description. it has the lyrics and should clarify that
Of course that’s what she’s saying, what else would she say
I think that speaks more to the people that enjoy her music than it does the music itself. The Beatles made amazing music but people still didnt shut up during the concerts.
¿2019?
2020!
¡twentytwentyone!
2021!
i want to sit at your table
i think i like when she sings live better than on that cd:) this songs so pretty..but the only way i would no about this song is cuz of that cell phone commercial haha :D
3:38 to to 3:48 just takes me places
@teaClocks exactly, i tried but failed to come up with any words, its more a feeling.
@samsung56789 Its also the nature of the concert, its more of a recital :D where you dont say a word.
This girl is incredibly Musicalic....
@samsung56789 You sir, just explained the beauty of music for a musician.
MP3? This is my favorite version :)
lol lol lol ... right?! its ok man, were all thinking it.. she is beautiful!
Please somebody tell me wich the meannig of the lyrics....
maria xoxe
The book of right one is the bible
she is tempting him to "sit on her table"
@grumpkin3 Yes. Don't you know the lyrics?
@TheJakwak Yup, get used to it. Just remember crap is more buoyant so it tends to float to the top :D Its your job to sift through it all and find the gems.
@MrMudfan That's awesome. :) It's a rare parent who can raise a non-conformist.
@supahfly55 they are both string instruments....silly!
She married Adam Samberg from Snl. Fun fact for the day.
He's not worthy. 😄
seriously, who are the two people who disliked this?
Hahaha yeah this is the first time I've heard this song (though I've loved Ys for a long time), and what she does rhythmically in this song is pretty tight. All it takes is practice, though.
This is going to sound very strange, but she was such a pretty neck.
13 folks just don't get it.
the riffs - (eg 3:36-3:46) sans voice just sing to me - yes I realize that's an oxymoron, but hey?..
Awkwardly beautiful! Her inflection, musicality, and intonation remind me of a young Bjork or maybe even Tori Amos. Intriguingly odd!!
Hmm. I actually see what you mean ha ha.
@Revoma it's funny 'cause, noone cares what you think, and i doubt anyone will.
@ducrozet74 lol
I am a black belt in karate and kicking your dinner with it isn't possible. You must be Chuck Norris.
Ovo je tako komentar nekoga ko bi ima "Hajduk" u imenu 😆😆😆
why do people have to comment :( Even when you say something true it makes it collective and destroys its originality. People who comment are immorally selfish at the expense of others watching. I encourage you to be morally selfish and enjoy it independently and hold your thoughts, they become sentimental instead of internet waste.
00:24 may be one of the sexiest things I have ever seen. Ever.
LSD or something better?
and this is a particularly rubbish recording. Joanna is totally awe inspiring live.
I'd rather learn philosophy of life from her instead of Ayn Rand.
shes beautiful but thats it
who cares:)
