Was planning on it then I got hit and totaled my truck
I am broke asf. Looks like I will be keeping my car.
Our 2 vehicles are 14 years old. No plans whatsoever to buy anything else.
I'll weld the lug nuts before that happens.😂😂😂
Agreed 👍
We've been considering replacing our 10-year-old daily driver, with only 56,000 miles on it, but found ourselves walking out of both a Chevrolet and a Subaru dealership recently after deciding to not pay these stupid prices or interest rates. If sales are so bad and prices crashing, we're not seeing it. They act as though it's still just a wild party where people were bored staying at home and had free taxpayer money to blow on whatever. We can afford whatever we want but we didn't earn the ability to retire early by throwing our money away. America has a serious and incurable addiction to shiny new objects and the inability to deal with their urges. I would make the bet that the overwhelming majority of car buyers on dealer lots today have a WANT versus a NEED. And with that attitude, it's not going to turn out well for many many people.
I always say if you don't understand the difference between what you want and what you need you will probably end up with neither
Go live outside of the USA if you don’t like consumerism. Your money will go further in the Philippines or Latin America
@@AntilleanConfederation uh oh someone's living in feelingsville USA
MAGA @@bensheard3969
Nope. We're good because we make better choices. American's are free to spend until they drop if they're that stupid. Consumerism as apparently you see it will destroy American families. Credit card debt at all-time highs, bankruptcies, foreclosures and car repossessions up double digits. Hardship withdrawals from retirement accounts at a 10 year high. Yeah. That's a good path. Let's hear it for consumerism.@@AntilleanConfederation
Just bought a 2024 Mazda CX-5 0% 60 months. Love it. 31K loaded. Old car had 155K on it still in my driveway as we needed 2!
You got 12k off MSRP? How?
I assume by loaded you mean the top trim Signature, which is roughly 40-42k depending on dealership location.
@@christianjmj6460 she went into the finance office, closed the door and " worked something out"
@@christianjmj6460 oops. S Prefered but imo compared to many other Companies vehicles it came loaded with leather / moon roof / heated / radars / etc. only draw back is not touchscreen which is annoying but drive is really nice. Delivery fee was 1375 so yes we got near 10% off MSRP. 0% was the kicker
@@kurtrussell5228if that’s where you mind immediately went to, I assume you’ve done the same in the past… 🤨🤨🤨
Everything will be great until that 3 year bumper to bumper warranty ends. Then the costly repairs on top of the high payments will end the party. They're fighting hard to keep things going. But they can't do it forever.
Your car is supposed to be fully paid at he end of the warranty.
Have a 2015 civic. Would really appreciate a new car but it's really not worth it. I could buy a luxury car cash but my savings will suffer along with all my life goals
Same here. I was at the dealerships looking at the new Tundra to replace my current truck. My current truck is absolutely fine and almost paid off. Once I took a step back I realized I was looking for a new truck just to have something "new" and not out of any real necessity at all. I'm grateful that God gave me the wisdom to step back from the silliness of it all.
Why? A 2015 civic still has 10 years of life, minimum. Why go onto debt?
@@TheRealCatof I wouldn't be in debt. But I already said it wasn't worth it
Hold onto it..
A civic? You good to go for a while. Better than the new ones.
Not gonna lie. I wish I didn't have a car now. My old car was totaled in an accident back in May, and I was in a rush to get a new one. I really should have taken more time to think things through. I recently did some math, and a figured I could buy a monthly bus pass, spend $500 a month on Ubers, and STILL come out ahead compared to owning a car.
Crazy...😢
You can still sell your car. The used car market prices are still up. And since fewer people are buying new, fewer cars are being predicted to enter the used market in the near future, as people are hanging on to their vehicles longer, reducing supply in the used car market and increasing value of used cars.
@@cloudoftime I just got the car six months ago, and ended up paying a dealer mark up. So despite putting 7500 down on it, I still owe significantly more than it's worth. Right now, you can get a 2024 model of what I have for not much more than what I still owe on my car.
@@seanwilliams7655 That value is just going to keep going down though. The longer you pay, the less time you have to reverse it. Unless you plan on keeping the vehicle for much longer than the payments run, but that's a gamble depending on the vehicle and how much you use it. You would have to do those specific calculations. But if you're paying more for it now, you're still going to be paying more if you keep it, because if the car market is coming down, your cars value is continuing to decrease.
@@cloudoftime There is always the time value of money. Walking to the bus stop, waiting for the bus in the cold. Uber prices fluctuate. When I had to Uber for a while to work, the low price was like $12, the average maybe $18-19. But on the day when it hits $52 for the same ride, and your building physically shuts down so you have to wait 30 min in 10*F weather for the price to drop to $22, you will appreciate having the car.
Also, more important: if you do regular maint on the car, it should last at least twice as long as your loan on it. So it's free sailing (well, gas, ins, maint) after that. Think long term.
So why are all of you shouting that dealership are in trouble?
They are.
The problem is going to be the negative equity in these cars when reality sets in that they've overpaid. That money just doesn't go away. It either remains with the car (repo) or the knucklehead rolls it into a cheaper car.
Your only talking about knuckleheads that keep trading in their cars or have to have the newest shiny thing I buy new cars and keep them till the wheels fall off.
Lol the problem is the negative equinox in ALL cars that lose their value as soon as you drive it off of the lot, they lose value every mile you drive any car. Just about every single car will lose value every year even if you don’t drive it
Yep
I prefer the zero installment method for buying a car. Zero percent interest because of a single payment.
I was able to get there, because I always spent less than I earned.
Brilliant.
How about the ridiculous car insurance premium?
If you drive a beater, you can skate by with just liability which will save lots of $$$.
Yea insurance premiums have went up big time since early 2000s a brand new modern day family sedan insurance rate can be almost equal to buying a mustang GT even if you have good driving record a brand new Honda Accord can be over $200 plus a month it's ridiculous
Good point.
I’ve got an 09 Subaru forester that’s 1k miles away from 200k. Has lots of leaks, but it still works great. I was thinking of getting something newer, but with prices still sky high, I’ll opt to drive this thing until the wheels fall off

😮 i was looking at new car last year and it was just to much I ended up buying a 2012 Toyota Tundra so far no issues or complaints....i pay lot less and im very happy 😮😮😮😮😮
Where I live in Nevada the DMV fees are based upon the MSRP of the vehicle. I assume that this is true for most states. The formula is that you take 35 % of the MSRP and multiply that by 5 % plus some other fees. That means that a new truck that has an MSRP of $ 75,000 will cost $ 1312.50 plus a bit more to register in the first year. That fee decreases by 10% per year until the 10th year when it reaches the minimum. When you add in the cost of insurance and payments, the vehicle could easily cost $ 1100-1200 per month to drive. This does not include the cost of fuel and maintenance. If you drive a lot, add another $ 500-600 per month. Keep your old car if it is still reliable and functional and drive the wheels off of it.
Good feedback.
Something tells me a lot of those sales were fleet/direct to buyer sales. Since lots are far more packed with unsold vehicles now than they were in previous years.
Lots were empty due to supply chain issues, lots are still more empty than pre COVID but I’m curious to see is what happens once people get their tax return money…..people will be able to start filling next month but most Americans always wait until the last minute
Maybe?
This information need to be put on a billboard so that the owners of dealerships can see it every day! An consumers can see it as well and STOP buying expensive automobiles! 13 percent tax and license here in California. Drive a 2007 tacoma, no plans for a new car.
What? CA sales tax is 7.25%. The highest combined rate by locality is 10.75% in Alameda. You're getting ripped off.
Fair.
I can only see a used car in my future. Not to mention the prices are stupid, there is not a single make/model that I would purchase due to technology that I don't want and/or quality issues observed. I will be very happy finding a low mileage 10 year old car.
Good luck. It's not like the used car market is any more reasonable right now. Also, people have the same idea as you so they are holding on to their vehicles longer, meaning there are fewer cars being added to the used market, especially with low miles, so there is less supply, which increases the price. Unless you want to consider other options, like auctions or rental cars being sold, you're not in a much better situation.

If you finance, have a plan, don't ever pay through the loan term.
Vehicle Insurance is doubling
Doubling?!
If you cannot pay cash for a vehicle then you can’t afford it…
yep
That's not true at all. That's an outdated concept. If that was applied to everything, no one would ever own a home, and many people in the current generation cannot even finance a home. We live in a system which was designed by the industries around rentism. Everyone wants you on payments or subscription service. It's becoming impossible for many to do it any other way. There is, however, a reasonable measure of percentage of income.
@@cloudoftime so taking out a liability (loan) to cover a depreciating liability? ….. sounds like willful slavery to me…. Things are not getting more expensive, the fiat purchasing power is drastically declining. The currency is worth less so it takes more fiat to cover that loss. Taking a Loan to cover a depreciating liability is not financially wise.
@@jamieprewitt Pay attention. I never said it was the best way for people to do it; I said that this is the way the system works which requires people to do it. How are you not getting this? If someone "couldn't afford" anything they could not buy with cash, then the vast majority of people would never own property. And with the increasing cost of vehicles, it's the same.
Again, and pay attention, I am not saying it's the system I want, but it is the system we have.
@@cloudoftime 👍🏼
This is why used cars are dangerous. Most previous owners do not do preventive maintenance. It’s a 50/50 crapshoot. Add in inflated cost 💲. Repo or out of warranty people are buying a vehicle out of their league, payments out of their league, then zero maintenance
There is a reason people get rid of vehicles. People keep vehicles until the cost makes it prohibitive. A person doesn't know what maintenance has been kept up or how the vehicle has been driven on a used car.
Do you not have mot or service records ?
Why not just fix it at home
Even paying a professional to repair it must be cheaper than buying a new car
I never buy a used vehicle that has no brand tires or battery. If it has Michelin or Bridgestone tires with a Intertate battery for instance then they could afford to maintain it.

Ill stick with my 2005 F150 and my 99 Jeep cherokee. Bought the F150 New w/ 0% financing paid off in 2012 and the jeep i just got in Oct for 2k. rust free and just needed a couple small fixes. I bought my wife a NEW Hyundai in 2019. Paid off in 2 years with a 10 year warranty. Well keep that until 2029 most likely. I will get a cybertruck in a couple years when production ramps and prices normalize.
Good luck if your truck's engine is a Triton V8. The Tritons have a history of engine unreliability (e.g., failed ignition coils, spark plugs broken off/stuck in the cylinder heads and broken/loose timing chains). From what I've read and heard, the 2004-2013 year models experienced these problems the most. I own a mid 2010's F-150 with the 3.7L V6 and a 6-spd automatic, and thus far, the truck has had any major/minor maintenance issues.
I've heard that too about the Triton 3V, but anecdotally I have owned one for over 19 years (2005 model) and have never been in the shop. Change the oil every 5k mi and you're less likely to see the cam phaser issue. I did change the plugs at 60k mi (none stuck). No issues with timing chain or anything else--just oil changes, new brakes and tires. It is an XL and bare bones so there is less to break.@@locknload4691
