Ive got the manual dmax 1.9l manual, the first gear is kinda useless for unladen/daily driving due to very low ratio which is 4.92 if I not have mistaken. if you want tu haul something heavy like a ton of cement you really like the first gear.
I wish they would bring vehicles like this to the United States market. I really would like to have a small diesel truck with manual transmission. No all we get are 3 ton land yachts appointed like luxury cars with 700HP v8s that get 13mpg. I drive a mazda 3 because I can afford to run it. I used to have a fullsize truck but it costs $20 every time you move it.
Great review Tom. Its a shame that Mazda hasn't returned a low-rider cab/chassis 2.2ltr as they did in the Ford variant BT50 and not offering a manual for those that want one is a mistake.
Another great review Tom. Looks like the XS is a good deal for those wanting a basic ute... BUT, how does it compare to a GWM Cannon X for the same price but including all the bells and whistles, a little more power and torque, full time 4WD and a seven year warranty?
I've got myself a 2021 XTR 4x4, and I love every second of driving it. It's the closest thing to a "luxury" ute, but it still is no slouch offroad, even stock with the show room tyres
Good day Tom. A reasonable option for those who don't need 'the works' I wonder if you started selecting options (mentioned the adjustable suspension at $7k) does it get to a point where it is better to go higher in the model range where some of the options are standard? Being two wheel drive is it rear or front wheel drive?
For the price you can get a top of the range GWM Cannon Ute. Which has all the toys and 4wd. Why would anyone look at the base BT50 unless your wanting a bulk order of them for running round a mine. This is the bulk fleet disposable ute that you see mine workers bombing round in Kalgoorlie. No self-respecting tradie would buy one of these.
@@hsv215i true dat. Think on the safety front this has all the bells and whistles one would need and more actually so I am actually not too sure what others one would need actually. Think this is 4x2 guise would be a nice urban ute
@@mymingyen I can tell yo that you wouldn't want all the "bells and whistles" unless you're a terrible driver, in which case, you probably shouldn't have a driver's license.
As an owner of a couple of MY2021 Isuzu D-Max SX single cab utes, with the underwhelming 3.0L engine, I cannot bear to think how gutless the 1.9L variant is.
Why are you not reviewing the single cab tray back, at this level they probably be what the city councils will buy. Are they as bad ergonomic design as the triton with their stupid front pillar and seat bolster that prevents any taller than 5' tall getting in?
Always love your reviews Tom. So honest, down to earth and approachable
That's very kind, thank you.
Excellent honest review!
The new upgraded XS now has 390NM of torque @ 1600 - 2600rpm & can tow 3500kg :)
Great to see a basic Ute review! Thanks bro
No problem!

Then get the D-max, which is offered as manual?
@@JDMEVOVIGSR it’s not that I want or need one I was just expressing my opinion on a missed opportunity from Mazda.
Nice to see your video☝️
Love steelies on cars and utes. I also like Base models but think a bigger engine and 4wd would make it a perfect base model.
That's basically the XT variant which is the same spec (but alloys and 3.0L)
Hey Tom would love to see a review on the 2022 Triton GLX-R 4x2
8:25 your imperial conversions are still the ones from the 3.0L, not the updated 1.9L
Yes 110kw is about 148hp
Yes, we messed up there. Sorry.

Definitely fewer toys, but quality seemed very good on the two BT-50 1.9 XS we drove. Could make a good comparison video, though!
I think the ford maverick has shown there is a market for this type of product in the USA
I've got myself a 2021 XTR 4x4, and I love every second of driving it. It's the closest thing to a "luxury" ute, but it still is no slouch offroad, even stock with the show room tyres
Is the bt 50 xs 4x2 available in black colour ?
Love it. It just suits my needs. What are the color options?
Thinking bout how the outputs of this 1.9 are about the same as the 3.0 ZD30

How reliable is the Gwm though.. heard alot about assembly quality, rust and glitches. Is that true and/or worth it ?
Still prefer a base model Mazda then the top of the range Cannon. I don't need toys and gadgets in a car just dependability.
The luxury of choice, hey.

I thought it was fine, but that was unladen.
I feel like Mazda just wants a peice of this market without the effort of creating a good off road vehicle themselves.
Sure, but Mazda is a very small company, so that's probably a smart play given their R&D budget is limited
Why Mazda Have Isuzu Dmax Platform
Because Mazda is globally quite a small auto manufacturer.
Its 147hp not 188hp

This was the opportunity I had
here in philippines theyre selling the new bt50 with the 2.2/3.2liter engine 6speed AT. new look same old engine/AT under and expensive pricing :c
Why make a video on a model no one will buy? No one will be a 4x2 unless for business purposes
Big downgrade from the outgoing Holden Colorado. MY17 and on base model has 500nm and car play/android auto.
True, but Holden has exited the market so that is history.
