It’s okay… here in Southeast Asia, we use “Chinese” to refer to Mandarin / putonghua. When we wanna refer to dialect like Cantonese, Hokkien, etc., then you got to specify. I’m guessing it would be different in HK or in mainland China.

Yeah, in Sichuan province everybody speaks Mandarin/Chinese, as well as the local dialect Sichuanhua
