I cancelled Netflix because I was spending most of my time on RUclips learning stuff. I unwind watching courses and it’s great to connect with other learners. Sometimes I just listen and other times videos really help. The videos have to be serialised, especially if you’re learning Python or geology. Serialisation is also helpful if you’re learning to cook. I also follow channels that cover my interests, watch documentaries, and rely on RUclips for most local and international news. Where else can you watch the proceedings of your municipal council, get advice on fashion and the latest software, check the weather, roam the streets of international capitals from the couch, get fit or find channels to entertain your dog or cat? Please don’t dumb down RUclips. That’s what turned me off Netflix and most other streaming services. Serialised fiction turned me off TV long before that. If I want to watch a series or a file there are plenty of other options. Branding and monetisation also puts me off. I already pay to not watch ads. They’re also the real threat to the future of RUclips.
@@BuonCo I really hope they have second thoughts about this. The beauty of RUclips is that there’s something for everyone to watch and anyone can become a RUclipsr. There’s nothing wrong with making some money on videos you spend hours producing, but over-monetisation could kill RUclips.
Well I agree but if it’s limited to only a few episodes not a whole channel, hats where the difference is. I can’t thank you enough for this video. You have inspired me to create a series that I know my audience will love. Not only will I enjoy making the videos, but I know the content will boost my channel. Thank you SO much!
I agree with you. I'm creating my gameplan for next year. playing some video games until completion (2 episodes per week) traveling around the city/vlog type (1 episode per week) Weight loss journey (episode and update every week) This is the future and I already see it coming. I believe the creators who create series will be pushed HARD.
When you’re dealing with the adult mind, I’m perfectly behind you. However, the youth, who dominate RUclips are still going to be looking for more brief content that entertains, with learning sneaking up behind it.
I think this prediction is accurate and very helpful. The "projects" paradigm seems like the next phase of RUclips's positive era because, as he said, this site is pretty dull now, especially with some of the old heavy hitters slowing down, retiring, or quiet quitting. The new wave will be dropping content in a very different way, and I think doing so as projects that create session time so that people can binge them just like Netflix is the way it will go. Creators will probably drop 5 videos at once instead of just one, all of them related to a similar topic. And then the six of that set would be a compilation of the original 5. Creators of the future won't drop videos, they will drop a series of videos that can act as instant playlists. It will be hard to compete with the people who can actually get that done, but I am gonna change my RUclips strategy to reflect this upcoming wave.
This is exactly right and I didn’t even think about the idea of dropping all of them at once that’s exactly what should happened and that’s the advice. I think I will continue going forward advising.
It’s only dull if you accept what the algorithm feeds you. I tell everyone to use the search feature and to scroll past what everyone is watching because the good stuff is often at the end of the list. Recommendations from RUclipsrs and real people are another way of finding good content.
I use this strategy for my blog. I create a 4-week series that plus into each other. Thanks for sharing your thoughts this is confirming for me.. Im on the right track.
This is an incredible prediction on the direction RUclips is moving towards. I really like the strategy you are suggesting Buon! A series which is encapsulated in this much bigger narrative. Very cool!
@@BuonCo the hooks just doesn’t do it for me . You could’ve started at least by loudly speaking out that RUclips is making some wild changes and this is what it’s gonna mean for your RUclips channel ! …. Channels that sorta have similar topics to yours are @vidiq & think media.
Years ago I wrote about how Netflix next step to thrive would be to become a version of RUclips. Now what happened is that RUclips is becoming a version of Netflix xD
I get what you mean. It reminds me of the Dissect and The Big Hit Show podcast, and other podcasts that devote a season to talking about one topic over the course of multiple episodes. This would be great for commentary and video essay channels. I think if channels think in the method of a project system kinda frame work they could find ways to make episodic content no matter the type of channel. If someone does current events, almost daily content, they can make a series breaking down one significant pop culture news topic in full on a weekly basis as a series, or something similar to that. Even if someone does movie reviews they can talk about a hit movie or a movie they love, breaking down the information they find out about the inception of the movie, to how the movie was made, to the themes of the movie and how it tells a story, to public reception and perception, however they want to tell it over the course of episodes. At the core of this kind of content creation, I think having a content creator with creativity and personality to make the audience want to watch each episode is what will make it successful. If they can make and keep someone interested in something they weren’t looking for, they’ll thrive in the format and in turn the format will thrive.
This sounds like the direction RUclips is taking. Should be interesting how things pan out. I’m not convinced small creators will struggle since all the trends right now are in favor of small creators. But time will tell what happens.
I've noticed this past year that I listen to videos more than watch. And I also noticed I enjoy videos that I don't need to pay attention too. I can totally see me getting tired of this and wanting something that has more of a story.
I'll also add that people have been experiencing view counts disappearing on videos. This is theorized as YT moving towards Netflix style too. YT has come out saying it could be a bug, but also have not truly denied it. If they got rid of the dislike count, getting rid of view count makes even more sense to me.
I’m so thrilled about finding this video because months ago I had a sort of personal revelation about this and I have a plan for my channel that fits perfectly with a Netflix type of content. This got me even more decided to move the pieces I need to move to make this a reality.
Dude this was such a great video! I have had this feeling with my escape-the-matrix-style dreamscape videos, thematic/episodic approach might totally work. Fingers crossed!
I find this with Disney holiday vlogs, starting watching from travel day through to each day. Like a series but someone’s holiday! I watch RUclips more than tv
Great video. Question for you: is there room for fiction on RUclips? Instead of "me" interacting with the audience it would be fictional characters. I call it the "Avatar Revolution". (Think of it as a writer transitioning to acting + producing), Cheers!
I think the reason people are enjoying more Netflix style content is because Netflix's content itself is kinda shit lately, the price has also gone up. The bottom line though, is that YT has ALWAYS rewarded good creators that make interesting content. Good - interesting content has nothing to do with budget either.
@DoughDash I really don't like that so many creators are dragging u for this. U have inspired a lot of people to start or restart their channels, especially people over 50, like me. Keep doing u, because those creators talking about u are driving up interest in your channel. ❤❤
Firstly, always make content that YOU want to make and choose it according to what YOU think might be FUN. Now, I can see the appeal in episodic content, but I don't think that it would be a good idea especially for newer creators. If a series is already going on, new viewers are NOT going to understand the context if the videos are highly interlinked. This might be good to keep the already existing viewers hooked, but also makes it more difficult to attract new viewers. A rule of thumb for any form of business is: "It is much more difficult to attract new customers than to keep the already existing customers hooked". In my opinion, the best form of content is Evergreen content, but it is also difficult to make such content. If you want to make series content, I would personally suggest to keep them as a content that you can watch without any prior context, but also keep just enough reference to previous video so that the already existing viewers can see the connection from previous video. Gaming creators have been doing series content since the very beginning of RUclips, so we know that it works; but we also know that how hard it is to enter a playlist of X creator who is currently making like #16th part of a series even though you know that the series is good and the views reflect that.
Love this idea... Got me thinking some big things... 🤔 As an AI creator, the tools to creating stories, entire universes, is almost within our grasps... to structure and create in this way, would be revolutionary..
Hi I have been telling my husband before RUclips announced it. I told him I am basically a tiny network tv show. In the future it might even be a place that is RUclipsrs will have to pay to even have a corner of the internet.
I have thought this as well and it actually makes me that much more interested in rebirthing my old channel and creating "journey" type videos so that it could be almost like a TV script and Im the main character.
With the advances in AI image tools that can allow you to create images of consistent characters, the advances in AI text and speech to speech audio, and the advances in AI generative video, I think 1 to 3 person teams will likely be able to create episodic TV from script to screen in 8 days the same way the South Park crew does. I mean if you can write a script in a day or two. Once you have the base characters trained as LORAs in a generative AI image tool and you have character voices saved in a tool like Elevenlabs, you should be able to create images to build shots from in a generative AI video tool and with Runway's recent advance with Act One using video to drive a closeup facial performance and lip sync you can probably create the images needed to build a shot list in half a day. Take those single images and capture performances to drive closeups in a day. In two days get all of your generative shots created, in another day get any character voices created with text or speech to speech. Edit the show and add sound effects and score while putting out deliverables in another two days and have it uploaded to a channel that same day for a half hour show. Of course you are probably rewriting and tweaking the script on the fly, but 8 days to produce a show seems feasible to me for one half hour TV level show made with AI. The cloud computing generative AI is outputting files fast. You just need good writers who can do okay facial and vocal performances to drive the animation. I see this kind of production method emerging in the next year as a common thing on RUclips. These tools have some limitations today and they may not be perfect, but they are pretty good right now. Good enough to make a show that might be on the borderline of the uncanny valley or a great animated show, but they are good enough to produce content better than a Plan 9 From Outer Space or Tommy Wisseau's The Room, maybe not quite studio system quality content, but content that is pretty damned good. The hardest part is writing good stories. I mean if you can write a solid 3 Act Script, there are AI chatbots that will help you write the prompts to get the shots you want.
Wow, I feel this is so true! This is exactly why I started my channel just last month with the intent of demonstrating a journey of becoming a millionaire (with challenges, setbacks, success, etc, all you mentioned). The only problem is that people will need to take big risks investing without knowing if the payoff is there.
I totally agree, we can have our own show. And people tune in...but every channel should have substance. Channels should be penalized fir using all chat gpt for their content.
yes this is what I’ve been thinking of and preparing for. I’m trying to get the cliff hangers. Great content and I totally agree with you, even when I watch netflix I think about how I can do my series
I cancelled my subscription to Netflix because there was too many b & c grade movies. Friends of mine & family have done the same. Maybe there is better content on offer in the U.S.A.?
I would think that scripting is very important. Not as such writing in detail what you need to say, but more like detailed outlining so that you define up front what you want to talk about so that it follows the hero’s journey and the 5C’s for unraveling a mystery and causality to make it flow in a natural way. Then I guess just switch on the camera and start talking. Would you agree this would be a good strategy?
Great thumbnail and video Jeff!! Theres always gonna be shifts and changes as a creator depends on your end goal but staying true what you enjoy creating will always be a win in my eyes! Personally I'll always document over create for an algorithm, might be a slow way to growth but I love it!
YT content centered on build or construction stuff will milk this system given the constant update on their projects and how long it takes to reach the final form.
Heard of this a few weeks ago. Do you or anyone know if all eps/seasons are meant to be paywalled or that is optional? Or is it straight free which i would doubt.
i honestly couldn't find that much information about it other than a few resources from youtube themselves and an article here www.thewrap.com/youtube-creator-content-season-episodes/
Do you mean every channel will be a web show of its own, or it will be like a production house, where each playlist will be a different season of a show (series of RUclips videos) ?
I think you have it backwards, Netlix will actually become more like RUclips. RUclips is already bigger than Netflix because they have a better formula.
@@BuonCo I don't see the updates that way. Also notice how Netflix is using AMC and HBO content - they can't produce enough content. That's why RUclips dominates them and Google is too smart to change that formula.
This information is always so useless, but I never know how yo practically apply it to travel content. Could you provide an example of how to do episodic content for a travel channel. Lets say for example doing a road trip around the UK
I'll try. something like this. Episode 1: London Highlights Episode 2: White Cliffs Episode 3: Stonehenge Episode 4: Lake District Episode 5: Scottish Highlands Episode 6: Edinburgh Finale
oh shoot. yep. like that BUT, the big difference i'm referring to, is because these will have a season end. not just on going and going and going killing engagement.
@BuonCo That's the Netflix model. Make the cheapest show, that's completely inoffensive to everyone, memeable, bingable, and something that works as a show used in the background(while the viewer does something else). They're not throwing tons of money at everything now, only a few shows get the premium treatment, most get the slop treatment. And you're suggesting to use the Netflix model. So I pointed out that Netflix wants to make slop, so that's what you're telling others to make.
Well I’m not telling people to do that. I’m telling them what Netflix has put out that they are pushing. So it’s a matter of riding the wave that’s coming or fighting it🤷
Very interesting Jeff. Exactly my idea of starting this Gospel music channel. The idea is to post songs and while putting them on a playlist, I will then choose the most watched that month then further present them in a playlist, that way, my audience will be watching content by public demand so they dont have to go through the least watched. Subscribed to yours, thanks
On an other note, anyone else seeing their comments not showing up on the top line ,so that you can see that it has been submitted? Recently, my comments only show up at the scroll down refresh point.🤔

A display of unwavering faith to an entity in content creation, who would have thought.
This is crazy, I came up with an idea like this as I see this is where we are going in the future
oh i hope it works out well for you!
Great points!!!
People are listening instead of watching becuase the video is podcast style. Who needs or wants to watch a podcast? Boring. Just listen to a podcast.
we listen with the yotuube app. screen off. etc. it's easier than other ways imo

This is exactly why I started my channel just last month with the intent of demonstrating a journey of becoming a millionaire (with challenges, setbacks, success, etc, all you mentioned). The only problem is that people will need to take big risks investing without knowing if the payoff is there.
I agree. Fully
Great timing...I've been prepping a new series I'm eight episodes in...
I kind of agree, but the transition will be tough for many.
yeah it'll be a minority, but those who do will win
Im excited for the future of youtube!
me too!
I totally agree, we can have our own show. And people tune in...but every channel should have substance. Channels should be penalized fir using all chat gpt for their content.
Interesting
thanks. but i don't see anything wrong with USING AI. it's just a tool like a drill to a screw. just helps you do the job faster.
Awesome
thank you!
great video
Thank you
Why Creators are moving to Odysee
Hint: views, subscribers, and monetization don't matter. There is no money here.
Well right. But no one talks about RUclips being a money maker. It’s a medium that builds your exposure
yes this is what I’ve been thinking of and preparing for. I’m trying to get the cliff hangers.
Great content and I totally agree with you, even when I watch netflix I think about how I can do my series
😎😀
Is there any channel examples you know of doing this currently?
Here’s a great example of how it was done, but she put it all in one upload
ruclips.net/video/T0CpOYZZZW4/видео.html
Thank you for this
My pleasure!
So we have come to full-fledged production companies instead of bunch of us yapping about stuff we as creators like. No, thank you, but no.
i don't think it'll run youtube. but it will likely be a change!
@@BuonCo I guess we will see soon enough.
I cancelled my subscription to Netflix because there was too many b & c grade movies. Friends of mine & family have done the same. Maybe there is better content on offer in the U.S.A.?
nah. i cancelled netflix too
Very interesting! And they are all going to need music....
probably!
Yes I would aimlessly creating wouldn’t work for this topic
Great thumbnail and video Jeff!! Theres always gonna be shifts and changes as a creator depends on your end goal but staying true what you enjoy creating will always be a win in my eyes! Personally I'll always document over create for an algorithm, might be a slow way to growth but I love it!
Hey Evan! Yeah I agree. I’m personally not going to do it for the algorithm but it does inspire certain creative ideas I’d like to start doing!
@ most definitely, I agree with the idea of series doing well and hooking the viewer! Gives something for them to follow along too!
Great video!! Agreed!
Glad you think so!
YT content centered on build or construction stuff will milk this system given the constant update on their projects and how long it takes to reach the final form.
it will take a while yes
Heard of this a few weeks ago. Do you or anyone know if all eps/seasons are meant to be paywalled or that is optional? Or is it straight free which i would doubt.
i honestly couldn't find that much information about it other than a few resources from youtube themselves and an article here www.thewrap.com/youtube-creator-content-season-episodes/
BINGO 💥
Do you mean every channel will be a web show of its own, or it will be like a production house, where each playlist will be a different season of a show (series of RUclips videos) ?
Yes but not WILL BE but occasionally
can we access the feature yet ?
not yet.
COUNT ME IN. DONT GOTTA TELL ME TWICE. Jan 2025 my episodic series will launch. Writing it NOW. SEE YOU THERE!!!!!! ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
Yessss!!!!! That’s what I’m talking about
Yes. Just start producing tv shows and movies for a roll of the dice. You Tube noticed the same thing. That you will make tv shows for free.
free is the best offer
@@BuonCo there's all sorts of situation when free is worst option. its why i dont eat free hamburgers. because if its free i know it's trash.
I don’t think you fully grasp what I’m saying or how RUclips works.
Free is the lead magnet to the good thing
I am actively thinking about how to do that with fashion, it has been my target since i create my channel 2 month before. Do somebody have an ideas?
What is B-Roll?
When footage of the thing the person is talking about over the dialogue
I think you have it backwards, Netlix will actually become more like RUclips. RUclips is already bigger than Netflix because they have a better formula.
Good point. But… RUclips updates say otherwise
@@BuonCo I don't see the updates that way. Also notice how Netflix is using AMC and HBO content - they can't produce enough content. That's why RUclips dominates them and Google is too smart to change that formula.
You could be right
I dig
This information is always so useless, but I never know how yo practically apply it to travel content. Could you provide an example of how to do episodic content for a travel channel. Lets say for example doing a road trip around the UK
I'll try. something like this.
Episode 1: London Highlights
Episode 2: White Cliffs
Episode 3: Stonehenge
Episode 4: Lake District
Episode 5: Scottish Highlands
Episode 6: Edinburgh Finale
@@BuonCo Gotcha so make it moreso location-based vs like steps to baking a cake. (or building a roof). Thanks for taking the time to do this
Right
Make sense
I already do this
Tell me about it
Why does RUclips hate RUclips so much?
Lol
1000 Sub 🎉
What's going to happen to news channels? Are we fucked?
idk. i haven't watched the news in well over a decade. Most people i know don't watch the news.
RUclips needs less cookie cutter hectoring wanaabees
Agreed
Oh you mean the Truman show.
oh shoot. yep. like that BUT, the big difference i'm referring to, is because these will have a season end. not just on going and going and going killing engagement.
also scammers like alex hormozi will be over.. i think they are already realizing that tai lopez type videos do not work.
I assure you, Alex is not a scammer. I know personally.
@@BuonCo he is at least a grifter in the same guru space.. there is no proof of any of his so called business expertise just like all these guys
Yes there is. There is a lot of proof. I wonder where you got this idea
@@BuonCo because there is no independent evidence.
Ok I can / might / possibly/ probably get it for You. What exactly do You want to see?
"You want to make slop"
Sorry I don’t know this quote. What’s it from and what does it mean?
@BuonCo That's the Netflix model. Make the cheapest show, that's completely inoffensive to everyone, memeable, bingable, and something that works as a show used in the background(while the viewer does something else).
They're not throwing tons of money at everything now, only a few shows get the premium treatment, most get the slop treatment.
And you're suggesting to use the Netflix model. So I pointed out that Netflix wants to make slop, so that's what you're telling others to make.
Well I’m not telling people to do that. I’m telling them what Netflix has put out that they are pushing. So it’s a matter of riding the wave that’s coming or fighting it🤷
@BuonCo What I said is what Netflix is pushing.
Emily In Paris, is what they want to make a million times.
I was just thinking this 2:50 recently stopped watching or listening to podcasts. They are still good but definitely a lot of “ filler episodes “ 😅
6:06 as I’m adding this to two playlist. I agree 💯
yep yep!
Very interesting Jeff. Exactly my idea of starting this Gospel music channel.
The idea is to post songs and while putting them on a playlist, I will then choose the most
watched that month then further present them in a playlist, that way, my audience will be watching
content by public demand so they dont have to go through the least watched. Subscribed to yours, thanks
That’s good but more of a playlist than what I’m talking about as making a series that together is one idea not many complete ideas. Know what I mean?
@@BuonCo 👍checkout "itchy boots", awesome. Better than the Cables & NF

I fully agree on this...
thank you! I like this comment haha!
video is great but the script fails it .
Thank you. How would you improve it?
@@BuonCoit isnt entertaining or makes learning new info about YT fun and enjoyable like vidiq &think media
On an other note, anyone else seeing their comments not showing up on the top line ,so that you can see that it has been submitted? Recently, my comments only show up at the scroll down refresh point.🤔
Not me
Can this also be done with SHORTS like a daily SOAP OPERA???
i suppose so. i don't see why not!
It is fine the way it is. Im glad rumble exist.
Rumble is horrible.
i really like rumble.
Rumble is great. but it's interface is garbage
I can’t figure out how I would create this type of content with a crochet account 🫣😬
easy.
