The absence of all three Jamaican women at the Paris Olympics was probably one of the biggest shockers for me. All three women were some of the heavy favourites to medal or win in Paris, but didn't even get the opportunity to compete properly because of injuries.
I believe right now this is a rebuilding period for Jamaican sprinting on both the men's and women's side. The Americans are heavily in the mix with many medalists and champions. The Africans are coming up and developing very well. Even some of the Europeans are stepping up recently.
World Relays in 2025 will once again determine the top teams to represent the relay rounds at World Championships in Tokyo. I'll be interested to see if any of these Jamaican women will be a part of this and if Jamaica can put on a better performance across the 5 relay events.

@@DidiPortshe wasn’t one of those athletes who was immediately recognised as a great sprinter. She was kinda overlooked for a long time. Unlike the majority of Jamaican sprinters she came from a very small community and was doubted by everyone even once she started gaining momentum in partial because of Shelly’s dominance at the point Elaine was coming up. Then while being professional at the highest level she’s had to go through constant injuries and most years where they’ve happened there’s been questions about whether she’ll ever be as good again. Specifically in 2017 I’m thinking the year after she doubled in Rio she had a really bad injury and subsequent times for a few years were a lot lower and everyone thought she peaked only for her to come back in 2020 and especially 2021 to put on most likely the greatest female sprinting season of all time and legitimately breaking the 100m record (which legally was 10.62) twice with a 10.61 Olympic record and a ridiculous 10.54. She of course is the most successful female sprinter at the Olympics of all time and the second greatest in my opinion all around only after Shelly because of her dominance at worlds.

I don’t know; I mean Shelly Ann barely made the Jamaican team with a 10.94 at nationals. Think she ran a comfortable 10.9x in the first Olympic heat also. So she may have had a bit extra in the legs. Maybe she would have gotten bronze - maybe.
I say maybe because her semifinal race included Shelly Ann, Sha’Carri and Julien. Which meant that one of them was not advancing to the final. More than likely Shelly Ann would not advance. More than feasible that during her warmup she recognized she could not run full speed and decided to scratch.
I mean think about it. You’re the great Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce; do you really want to be remembered as not making it past the semifinal? Better to scratch and honestly I don’t blame her. Which would also explain the coyness regarding why she scratched.
Julien ran a 10.72 on a wet track into a slight headwind. So in ideal conditions that would be somewhere between 10.67 to 10.70. Shericka ran 10.84 at nationals.
It’s very likely that Julien would have still won gold and Sha’Carri and Shericka would have fought it out for silver and bronze.

Again go watch the Jamaica nationals and you will see that Shelly barely made the team on time with 10.94. It was obvious that her injury was still bothering her.
TaLou has been running in the low 11s all year. Maybe she would’ve been in contention for silver or bronze but just can’t see it for gold.

I am praying we get at least one final hot double performance from she before she retires, and I also hope Shelly has a proper salute. I feel Jacko has a little more time left; I totally did not expect her to do well this year because of all the insane improvements four straight years…her body definitely needed some R&R. But, I’m just noticing Jacko’s knee was taped in that 200M race this year…what’s that about? Either way, although American and wanting my girls, especially ShaCarri to thrive, I cannot write off my Jamaican girls! Also, funny, Paris seems totally weird to me, as well…I’m totally over the Paris Olympics due to my disappointment with several favorites, and the odd outcomes of many. I’m very happy for those who have thrived, especially those who have made history for their nations, like JuJu and Tebogo, but this has been my least enjoyable Olympics, honestly.

The situation I find most puzzling is the travesty of Fraser-Price and Richardson not being allowed entry into the stadium. It's possible to realize in warm-up that you have a problem, a pre-existing tightness, etc., but if your pre-race preparation is rushed you may not have time for a needed massage or proper taping. Going all out in those conditions could be risky. Shelly Anne will be back next year. An Achilles injury is difficult; you have to allow it to heal fully. Thompson- Herah will be back. I don't know much about Jackson, but I would expect her also to be back next year.

Shericka started her season late, was very overweight, rumours had it she had a early season injury,
Her coach hot someone to helo in getting her weight down, got that right, started to improve times, unfortunately she got injured hamstring again. Maybe having to pack so much effort to catch up didnt workout , who know??
Elaine dont have a coaching team now that can manage her type of injury while training.
It is what it is but jamaica will be back, shericka will be ok, shelly will be there plus 2 others for the 100m. Shericka you mention is on track to beat Alfred in the 200m .. Shelly Anne comes to the start in the Olympics and runs a brilliant race but then drops out? All these times and performances there were opportunities to test these girls. Therefore, we can rule out doping. Regarding Elaine, it seems backwards that Shericka and Shelly Anne kept Elaine out a bit?? Elaine is the one who has double gold two Olympics in a row, which the other two do not have. I think a mutual rivalry and jealousy has arisen. The strange thing to me is that Shelly Anne is so old she can still perform the times she does. Almost unlikely.

Fun fact. In Bodybuilding one reaches their peak in their upper 30’s and even into their 40’s . They die younger due to drugs, (steroids, growth hormones), dehydration, and create extreme injuries using weights that cripple them. Example Ronnie Coleman.
On the other hand most track and field athletes can be very young and still perform at levels never thought could be.
Examples, at Junior levels, McLaughlin Levrone hurdles, Quincy Wilson, 400 m junior 18-year-old record world record, Knighten 200 m junior record(Bolts old record), DuPlantis Pole Vault Jr n Sr world records, Jr records, Jacob Ingebrigtsen mile, 1500, world record 3000 meters, so on and so forth.
The main reason athletes spiral downward is injuries.
The other factor is they work themselves to the ground.
College athletes burn out due to their obligation to run hard all season during an Olympic year. Those that work out wisely sustain longer careers.
We have training backwards in the USA. Usain Bolt, Armand DuPlantis, Justin Gaitlin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and many others.
The reason Cole Hocker won Gold in the 1500 in Paris is because he peaked at the right time. He no longer ran himself ragged all year and it proved my point.
Of course Jacob is taller and can run more fluid than most but that’s an advantage most taller runners have. Example 6 foot 5 inches Usain Bolt vs the rest of the sprinters.

I think their age is the biggest factor. Elaine is 32, Shericka is 30, and Shelly Ann is 36. Most sprinters peak in their mid 20's. 23 yr old Julien Alfred is the one to watch now. Gabby Thomas will soon be 28 yrs old so her time at the top is nearing its end.

I believe the game is rigged. A lot of money was being bet on the big 3. Lol. Nike rigged the game for Sha'Carri, only for her to come second in the 100m, and Nike rigged it for Gabby in the 200m. It can't be a coincidence that all three pulled out, especially with similar injuries. The chances of someone winning the lottery are greater than all three pulling out. It's odd as heck. 🤦‍♂️

Usain Bolt and the Jamaicans🇯🇲 dominated the sprints for 8 years and fell off after the drug testing got tougher.
There're some who believe Jamaicans have some type of dominant sprint gene or something that helps them to run faster than others. But those of us who follow the sport closely know that the majority of CONFIRMED drug cheats have been Jamaican: Steve Mullings, Nesta Carter, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Marvin Anderson, Patrick Jerrett, Merlene Ottey, Allodin Fothergill, Sharone Simpson, Asafa Powell, Raymond Stewart, Donovan Powell, Yohan Blake, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Sherri-Ann Brooks, Lanceford Spence, Julien Dunkley etc.
