I think Jakob is not built for the longer distances, specifically above the 5000m. His best distances are arguably 2000m, 3000m, 5000m, although the 2000 is not a standard distance in most meets.
He proved that he already is able to keep good speed tor 10000 meters. I also will include 1500 meter among his best distances when he get the tactics right.
I think he was just getting a work out. there is no reason to run halfs when competing for much shorter distances, unless you want to shorten your career like I did.
I wonder why you havent made a video yet about Sifan Hassan, she has been doing what Jakob is trying to do which is perform at the highest level at every single long distance with her latest great achievement at the olympic games with medals on both 5k, 10k and winning the marathon. Would be really cool to see her get some praise.
idk, seems like he was running to win it (which is fine) but perhaps it would have been better to run it to see how he does. Run against himself and evaluate what he needs to work on to improve for next time. Redlining yourself to keep pace with runners specifically trained for this type of race seems counter-productive.
I don't watch a lot of Jacob's races, like some ,but one thing i have noticed is his sometimes lack of awareness of his pace. He lost the 1500m Olympic final exactly because of that. and, again, here, here he succumbed to the tactic, by others, of pushing the pace early. Long distance running is about being able to pace yourself without being surrounded by pacers or being on a track and able to see your opponents at all times. Interesting events!
He knew what the pace was going to be- it was arranged by the organisers. He wanted to see what it was like. If he had wanted to set a PB with a decent time he would have arranged a 14min per 5k group. That’s not what he’s after.
I had no idea that Jakob actually finished that race. Good for him. After the Diamond League 1500 final and the long and intense build-up for the Olympics, this half marathon was just too much on the plate. If he focuses on the half in the future, I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be up there with the top guys like Kiplimo, et al. ... But maybe a more interesting target would be 10K on the track. It's all good.
Not even comparable. Sifan specifically trained for it and broke an Olympic record. Jakub did this for fun or publicity and ran outside the women's world record.
@@GullibleTarget That's not true. After the marathon in Paris, she said that she decided to run the marathon along with the 5000 and 10,000 meter on a whim. E considered a global superstar for her achievements. Nobody comes close.
His Debut was a interesting, yet was an ok start for trying out the half marathon. I don't Jakob for not trying out the half marathon again because that is a hard event coming from a 5-15k run. Literally 6 minutes behind of the titans in the half marathon is insane for Jakob's debut. 👍
Yeah that is amazing... It occurred to me that the fastest one mile I ever ran was 4:47 (which felt pretty fast at the time!), and he basically did that for 13 miles in a row - and it isn't even his event. That just seems superhuman to me.
In the Olympic Final in Paris, he did what he had to do, he ran his race, a very gutsy race. And now he came out here and ran a half marathon. Actually he is in the best form of his life so why not. This is the best time to try new things when he is so fit.
Im seriously impressed. Jakob admitted he was straight up, not prepared for the elite pace. I feel like when he underperformed in the past, he was blaming anything he could. "Oh I'm sick, this hurts, that hurts". I like this version of him better
Not an Ingebrigtsen fan, but I have to doff my cap for his courage to go all out, and grit to finish strong. Definitely expect him to become a serious half and full marathoner in due course. Respect.
I've done two half marathons. One at 38 and one at 42. I was FAR slower clearly but I got them done (2:15 and 2:21.) the first one I cramped, walked and was bouncing off a mental wall. THAT'S an experience if you've never felt that. Like someone tapping you on the forehead continuously telling you to stop, stop, stop, stop. Even for someone as fit as he is we all have our limits!
If you find Ingebrigtsen hard to pronounce, try saying it like [Ingebrit zen]. This is not absolutely perfect to native standards either, but very close (judging by non NOR-speaker). Cheers for the great race summary! :)
@@Nintendofan184 i think he's trying to churn out more content, but there's too many preview videos too. most people who follow track and field know the big names who are set to clash in an upcoming event. we don't need their backstories over the entire season

When you said the finishing time if the runners kept it up being 57.50--57.57, I have seen this at a race one year but the race was a point to point and also was a 2.5--3% grade downhill the whole way so even if course had finished within the maximum from finish as per World Athletics rules on road races longer then 1 mile so in the 3000 meters on up.
That is why knowing your pace is so important in a race. If he would have stayed at 2 mins 52 secs - 2 mins 55 secs, he can still finished below with a very decent time. A constant pace will only get you finished just below an hour. Of course, finishing at 1 hour 3 min plus is still a superb timing!
I’ve watched various running clips, but this particular video stood out. Although Jakob is a skilled runner, promoting the idea of dropping out isn’t ideal for young athletes. Once quitting becomes a habit, it often affects future performances. Jakob himself mentioned in an interview that he respects long-distance runners who push through difficult conditions. Given his level of ability, it’s puzzling why he would drop out. It raises questions about whether there might be other factors at play.
This is really interesting. He could be one of the first Europeans to get that pace to a distance. His body is used to fuel for 10k, so he needs some adaption to maintain the effort for 20k. For him probably 5-10k intervals for 20+km. But I don't see him compromising his middle-distance times for the Marathon distances any time soon.
Hence tip of my hat to Sifan Hassan for her 5000m, 10000m bronze medals, plus Gold for Marathon in Olympics. All in 1 week! Quite surprised TRP did not cover Sifan's achievements actually
The coolest thing abt Jakob is that he actually races. Like he cares abt giving ppl a show, and actually attend races. Many you never see. Only in big championships. So while many just do a few races, Jakob, even in Olympic seasons still do several events. It's kinda sad that it is a think at all, and that many don't care about stuff like that. But the pace increasing so significantly probably isn’t good for his style anyways, since he usually builds into the race more gradually.
@@LightsTeamEuphoria I can also match the pace. But I also, like Jakob, have problems maintaining it. So I have a chance?
Props to Jakob. Most people who are at the absolute top of their game would not take risks like this to make themselves look weak in another kind of competition
Why would that make him look weak? He's not a marathon runner and ran two days after the diamond league. Nobody expected anything. He finished in a time outside the women's world record. It was just for fun. Nothing earthshattering or impressive. Just really good running.
Next he should run the 100m.
I think the "stopped again" Jakob referred to was the actual finish line. He pushed as hard as he could for the final km to the line and then "stopped " Accurate description.
Norwegian newspaper TV2 had video of Jakob walking at the 15K marker. Believe that’s the 2nd stop
He tried to join a different group but couldnt keep with them.
Crazy to hit the wall that hard and get back into the race
This is really cool. I’m Danish and from Copenhagen 🇩🇰
Wauw, a Danish person from Copenhagen! This is amazing!
The amount energy and buzz his arrival created here in Copenhagen was insane! Everyone loved every bit of it and loved that he finished it 🎉 and pretty damn impressive debut
Amazing work by Jakob! He never ceases to amaze me with his determination and ability to just get up and brush off a tough race. I bet he breaks another world record soon!
i really respect the fact that he finished! really brave to try to stick with the lead group. i wonder how he would do if he hadn't raced 2 days prior.
A time of 63 minutes is no joke.
Almost as fast as the women's world record over the same distance! Not bad!
Yes especially with the two stops. With a more experienced pacing, he should be able to get very close to the 1h mark.
@@MrHaggyy Yes and also with the 1500m he won and then immediately doing this half without proper training suited for half marathon. this is quite the bit impressive. No matter the mileage, he did not train for half marathon, his training are for the kicks and fast pace of 1500m and mile runs. Imagine what he would be if he trains for HM properly
@@GullibleTarget why are you fooling yourself? you know that he would have finished in 60-61 min, if he hadn´t followed the lead pack... but he decided to burn himself out and still finish in 63 min after hitting the wall hard which is pretty impressive, while you may call it cocky or arrogant.
I'll be honest. I didn't like anything about Jakob at first. The more I see the more I like and respect. The man likes to run. The man is good at running. He doesn't care what you think because he knows he's fast and willing to find his limits. The 1500m Olympic final, he knew the gravity of the race and went in with a plan. It didn't work but that race would not have been what it was without him. That seems to be all his races, win or lose. Racing this Half after the Diamond league win, name another person that had the guts to do it.
haters usually don't have a good solid reason to hate. Once you see a bit more of him then you see hes normal guy.
2024 was definitely an exciting season for track and field. It's been really great. And, as always, thanks for your commentaries.
Simple: He's human, he hasn't trained for this event, and he is exhausted so many world records and lack of rest will take its tool this isn't surprising.
He needs to take a month off allowing his body and mind to recover. He is still very young and has time to get back into training against the best.
Just like Hassan he is burning himself out.
Also, he is insane.
He did win the 5000m. People seem to forget that, I’m glad you mentioned that.
drugs can only take u so far...this boy wil kill himself with dope..
The fk 2:42min/km pace for 20kms, yeah, thats is basically most people's sprint pace for an entire hr...
yeah, messed up, these runners are soooo far above normal people.
TRP did you miss Aregawi being the main pacer in this race, went 12k or so. Yep, same dude who won the 5k in Brussels in 12:43 or so and was 2nd to Jakob in that 3k race in 7.21. Has run 26:31 for 10k this year,. Same age as Jakob I believe.
Agrewal is another monster. Kiplimo is a third monster all around the same age.
I like how you pronounce Jakob/Jacob differently depending on whether you are referring to Ingebrigtsen or Kiplimo.
Now I have got even more respect for GOAT Sifan Hassan.
Great athlete, love watching him, he posted on his instagram - Just realized the meaning of the term «run like hell». 😮💨 My deepest respect to all you long distance runners! As someobody said in comments, bro is actually human!
Jakob is going to be a 10k monster when he focuses on that. I think he could probably go under 26 next year if he tries to
I don’t know about that!
He bassicly ran 10 k all out in this race . His time was impresive but but switching focus to 10 k wont magicly erase 90 seconds of his pb.
@@lars3683 but he had had a 3:30 on his legs less than 40 hours ago as well as an extremely long season of heavy 1500m racing. He also ran that on the road. Well rested, I can see him run in the vicinity of 26:40-50 on the track with his current shape without changing his training.
Nah. He will continue to be the pace maker racer.
@@GullibleTarget Except in the 5000 where he dominates every time
This guy is an absolute weapon
He should have a license to carry himself
Hes not built for marathons- hes white..thts not being racist its genetics after 10miles africans cant be beaten
Very decent results and very honest review from the chanel. I hope Jakob gain something that could be useful for his 1500, 5000 races.
I love this guy. He deals with the pressure and fame seemingly without an ego
Yes, there are courageous men out there but indeed he is one of them finishing the race and admitting
I think Jakob is not built for the longer distances, specifically above the 5000m. His best distances are arguably 2000m, 3000m, 5000m, although the 2000 is not a standard distance in most meets.
He proved that he already is able to keep good speed tor 10000 meters. I also will include 1500 meter among his best distances when he get the tactics right.
super interesting. What a moment in running history
Ur commentary is wonderful keep it rolling brother
I think he was just getting a work out. there is no reason to run halfs when competing for much shorter distances, unless you want to shorten your career like I did.
Yeah, look at Sifan’s career in tatters.
I wonder why you havent made a video yet about Sifan Hassan, she has been doing what Jakob is trying to do which is perform at the highest level at every single long distance with her latest great achievement at the olympic games with medals on both 5k, 10k and winning the marathon. Would be really cool to see her get some praise.
right!! I’ve often found that distance based running content focuses a bit too much on the men, neglecting the fantastic women in the event
Very True Sifan Hassan deserves her own video.
props for finishing
this is my favourite season ever of track and field
idk, seems like he was running to win it (which is fine) but perhaps it would have been better to run it to see how he does. Run against himself and evaluate what he needs to work on to improve for next time. Redlining yourself to keep pace with runners specifically trained for this type of race seems counter-productive.
Jakob comes to race. Kudos to him for his competitive spirit.
Huge fan of Jacob. Such an interesting guy. Always up front and honest
Your videos are great!!
I LOVE this channel
Simply magnificent!
Amazing Champion Stubborn, Super Talented Yet Always Determined To Excel 🙌🏻🥇
Which makes Sifan Olympic Medals even more glorious ‼️ I’m waiting on her video.
Half marathon is his new challenge. According to his past record, hitting the wall surprised all of us. But still look forward to his next try.😊💪🏽
So crazy to think he significantly slowed down to a 16min15sec 5k. I couldn't even dream of running a single 5k that fast.
Jakob’s a beast!!
Agreed, that was an impressive performance.
I love it! This dude’s a super bad ass!!!
This makes what Siffan Hassan did in the Olympics even more impressive
Not even comparable. Sifan specifically trained for it and broke an Olympic record. Jakub did this for fun or publicity and ran outside the women's world record.
@@GullibleTarget That's not true. After the marathon in Paris, she said that she decided to run the marathon along with the 5000 and 10,000 meter on a whim. She said that she didn't know what prompted her to attempt these 3 distances in the same Olympics. She then said that once she decided to try, She just followed through with it. Sifan Hassan should. E considered a global superstar for her achievements. Nobody comes close.
Absolutely it does. She should be on every magazine, newspaper and video platform for her spectacular performance .
His Debut was a interesting, yet was an ok start for trying out the half marathon. I don't Jakob for not trying out the half marathon again because that is a hard event coming from a 5-15k run. Literally 6 minutes behind of the titans in the half marathon is insane for Jakob's debut. 👍
Excited for the team ing reboot
wait is that 4:49/mile pace with the stops? How long did he stop for? That's insane!
Yeah that is amazing... It occurred to me that the fastest one mile I ever ran was 4:47 (which felt pretty fast at the time!), and he basically did that for 13 miles in a row - and it isn't even his event. That just seems superhuman to me.
@@gdub999tub. Kipchoge did 4:34.5 per mile in a marathon, even crazier!
Not a bad one at all for your first one. that was great. He has to learn his own speed and pace for this race.
Love his character. He is having so much fun with running
In the Olympic Final in Paris, he did what he had to do, he ran his race, a very gutsy race. And now he came out here and ran a half marathon. Actually he is in the best form of his life so why not. This is the best time to try new things when he is so fit.
00:40 RIP the cameraman's lens on the spare camera 😂
Im seriously impressed. Jakob admitted he was straight up, not prepared for the elite pace. I feel like when he underperformed in the past, he was blaming anything he could. "Oh I'm sick, this hurts, that hurts". I like this version of him better
Not an Ingebrigtsen fan, but I have to doff my cap for his courage to go all out, and grit to finish strong. Definitely expect him to become a serious half and full marathoner in due course. Respect.
You always learn something
the pace these runners keep for these long distances are mindboggling ....
talk about jakob running the copengahen half starts at 4:08
Thank you, his intros are brutal..far too much backstory and set up
@@Nintendofan184 i think he's trying to churn out more content, but there's too many preview videos too. most people who follow track and field know the big names who are set to clash in an upcoming event. we don't need their backstories over the entire season
@@joddle23 agreed, don’t get me wrong he’s doing amazing work with really impressive efficiency. Maybe a time stamp to where the current event is that he’s talking about would be the way to go
@@joddle23start your own channel then. Oh wait, you couldn't because you don't have the skills or ability. Arrogant.
This channel does unnecessary intros everytime 😂
When you said the finishing time if the runners kept it up being 57.50--57.57, I have seen this at a race one year but the race was a point to point and also was a 2.5--3% grade downhill the whole way so even if course had finished within the maximum from finish as per World Athletics rules on road races longer then 1 mile so in the 3000 meters on up.
That was my perspective too! In two years, he goes again for the distance, and he will make under 1 hour.
The 2nd stop was at the 15k mark. There's some videos on IG that show him stopping after the 15k mark, you can clearly see it.
His has courage and is eager to try things out. That’s great.
The lure of a finishers medal.
He's going to challenge the record one day I'm sure.
There are videos of him walking at the 15 km mark.
It raises questions about whether there might be other factors at play.
did you drop out of watching the video? ;-) he dropped out, then dropped back in again and finished
He didnt drop out. He stopped twice and continued and ran 1:03:13.
I love that mindset, run until you die and then run until you die again 😮 that would be an epic training session
Cheeky interval session that was for the lad. Incredible
Really great even with the strange pronunciation of the word 'marathon'! 😝(Why do you pronounce it 'mara-thorn'?)
Jakob is a incredible runner. He will set many more records in the future.
jakob should farm the 5000m and maybe 10km from time to time
I think he's pushing it a little hard lately, if I were him I'd take some time off and relax a little.
Yeah, broke WRs this year, but was also a season he was injured.
Hopefully he recovers well for next season
And people think he can break the marathon world record... put some respect on Kiptum's name
Finishing with a 1:03 and stopping a couple times tells me one thing - his recovery is absolutely insane.
Hence tip of my hat to Sifan Hassan for her 5000m, 10000m bronze medals, plus Gold for Marathon in Olympics. All in 1 week! Quite surprised TRP did not cover Sifan's achievements actually
TOOO much CRAZINESS...he is pushing the button of doom
Barihu Aregawi was the main pacer. Crazy pace was expected from the gun..
It is nice to see someone with the confidence to just say, "it was difficult"
The coolest thing abt Jakob is that he actually races. Like he cares abt giving ppl a show, and actually attend races. Many you never see. Only in big championships. So while many just do a few races, Jakob, even in Olympic seasons still do several events. It's kinda sad that it is a think at all, and that many don't care about stuff like that. Cause, why do sports then, if you don't care abt the audience and fans? Sport without fans, it's like.. think the pandemic all the time. Also if ppl don't see you they don't know you. So even if you win gold, other than being a note in history, ppl will forget you. People will remember Jakob though
No matter what but Jakob still was amazing!
