  • We meet the team behind the West End staging of The Shark Is Broken, which is a deep-dive behind-the-scenes on the making of Jaws.
Running to 15 January 2022 at the Ambassadors Theatre, the piece is written by Ian Shaw (who is the son of original Jaws actor Robert Shaw) and Joseph Nixon, and stars the younger Shaw as his father. Joining Shaw are Liam Murray Scott as Richard Dreyfuss and Demetri Goritsas as Roy Scheider.
The stage show follows the three actors as they sit on a boat and wait while their mechanical carnivorous co-star is fixed. It has direction by Guy Masterson, with set and costume by Duncan Henderson, lighting by Jon Clark, sound and music by Adam Cork and video by Nina Dunn. Casting is by Julia Horan CDG. The associate director will be Martha Geelan, the associate lighting designer will be Simisola Majekodunmi and the costume associate will be Deborah Andrews.

"Anyway, we delivered the bomb" ~ with no hyperbole I genuinely think that is the best delivery of any line in film history.

What a brilliant play, I saw it last week. It's an absolute treat, very funny but ultimately sad in parts. Ian Shaw gives the most extraordinary performance playing his wonderfully charismatic father. He delivers the Indianapolis speech at the end every bit as brilliant as his father did in Jaws. Robert Shaw would be proud of his wonderful son.

Jaws to me is the best movie ever made, it’s just perfect and before anybody starts, the rubber shark doesn’t make a blind bit of difference.

Saw "The Shark is Broken" last night. Awesome evening. Incredible acting. Humour, sadness, vulnerabilities exposed, poignant moments, truth, nostalgia. Everyone should go and see it. The acting and staging is superb and, for 90 minutes, you'll be transported back to 1974 in a claustrophobic environment where three very different characters are thrown together and are forced to face each other's insecurities. Bravo! to the whole team behind TSIB and thank you for putting on such amazing entertainment!

@@markthomas8018 I had covid & recovered in August so was granted a covid pass. The new requirements are a covid pass OR a lateral flow test result uploaded to the NHS website. I’d do it the day before you go. They did check the covid passes but they aren’t necessary. Just do lateral flow & show the text you receive back from the NHS. The staff were really nice & friendly, so you shouldn’t have any problems.
      Enjoy!

Whats the betting we get a major film or mini series in the next few years about the great Robert Shaw and played by his son Ian. i cannot wait because he looks the splitting image and with a bit of honing he could get his voice nailed down. I think it could merit Bafta, Oscar or Grammy nominations if done right and with the right script and director on board. Mr Spielberg here is your cue!

Having read and watched so much on the Jaws story, I would LOVE to see this but there's no way I can get there during its run. Please, Please bring it to Durham Gala theatre or Stockton Globe or Darlington Hippodrome. Or better still, bring it out on DVD as well. The casting is perfect, especially Ian who is so like his Dad it's uncanny - and who better to bring that part to life? Big pat on the back to the whole production team too. It looks astonishing.

Hey! I work as a Front of House at the Ambassadors Theatre, which is the theatre that has The Shark is Broken at the moment and if that can be of any reassurance: it is having a LOT of success, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ever gets extended or if it goes somewhere else :))
