he has acted in some great movies over the years, as for jaws 2 i thought it was a decent sequel if there had to be one made, far better than some other film sequels that i could name, it is true that he did not want to be in jaws 2 but he was on a three movie contract with universal so he had no choice really. it also had a different director to start with that wanted to make it a much darker movie but he was axed. i think most jaws fans did want to see amity revisited and to see how the brodys were getting on four years after. regards the batman.

Jaws 2 was a definite step down from the original film but as far as sequels go I wouldn’t put it in the bad sequels category. It’s actually decent and entertaining enough and could have been total trash. 3 and 4 were but 2 was still entertaining enough to be a decent sequel.

It’s a decent film. Had it been the only Jaws film, it would have been very well regarded. The kids aren’t annoying, the drama and tension are well wrought and the conspiracy undertones, plus not being heard by authority, fit in with other 70s thriller. The shark is a bit rushed, admitedly.

The fact that they could only use the model shark scarcely in Jaws was a blessing in disguise and just like the first Halloween movie it's the parts your imagination has to fill in that are most frightening and why the film works so well.

@@MaryBrownIsTheBlairWitch That's true but I think Hooper explains in the first movie that Amity has a lot of fish so it was an ideal feeding ground. They allure that there were never any sharks - hence why everyone thought the tiger shark was “thee shark”. It could be gathered that a new shark would have little to no competition for that reason.
Jaws2 could also be an offspring of the first shark. Either way it was the last time a shark actually looked menacing in a Jaws movie and Roy gave a hell of a performance still.

I love Jaws, haven’t watched it in such a long time however my favourite Roy Scheider film is Blue Thunder. Saw it at the cinema and is one of my go to movies, thank you.

I was 9 years old when Blue Thunder came out. My Dad took me and my brother to see it in the theater, back in 1983. I really liked the movie. For Christmas, I asked for, and received, a Blue Thunder helicopter toy. My Dad also took me and my brother to see 2010: the Year We Made Contact movie, also starring Roy Schneider, in 1984. That's also a good movie. It was good enough that, even now, as a 49 year old, I still remember watching and enjoying it in the theater 39 years ago.

You really get the sense he pretty much disliked Jaws. NOT the movie itself, but the movie was so popular it obviously hit him after being essentially forced into making Jaws 2 that he was going to be known as Chief Brody forever.. A lot of actors don't like that..

I remember working at the Victoria theater in 1980 as a usher and i saw Roy just standing outside with his daughter and I walked out and asked “do you want to see the movie “? He put his arm around me and said “yes is that ok”as we were walking in the theater. I put him and his daughter in the closed balcony. He thanked me after the film ended. Great experience

Roy was part of my life growing. I am so glad I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s , they were the best years of my life and possibly the last best decades in America. Our technology was almost nil at the time so we relied on the good old fashioned movie theaters to see block busters that even today some are running sequels.. *Jaws, Close Encounters, , Raiders of the lost Ark, James bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Predator, planet of the apes, E.T, The terminator, The goonies, Friday the 13th, Batman, Back to the future* . ...To name a few.....The TV show line up on the networks were fabulous (this was before you got 500 channels like you do today and still nothing on is good) we had Dallas, knots Landing, Falcon crest, little house, The Waltons (No not the store that destroyed America). And every night of the week a network would compete and have for example, Monday night at the movies! Tuesday night at the movies ! and they would show a major movie release. It’s sad that so many that I grew up with have passed on. When you are young you don’t think about life ending and think you will be around for ever. But now 58 and having lost family members and friends it’s good that we have these great movies to watch to bring us back into time and escape all this horrible way of life here in 2023. I sometimes go an entire weeks immersing myself in the things from the 70’s and 80’s by listening to the music from that t8me on Sirius XM and watching a different movie each night of the weeks and tuning out the news and noise of this world….

It's a shame I only know him from the French Connection and Jaws. I'd like to see him in more noteworthy movies and roles, as he's such a natural and charming acting talent. At least there's still "52 Pick-Up", "Romeo is Bleeding" and "All That Jazz" to watch.
