- Sorry this isn't better quality, age is taking it's toll on my VHS tapes, despite being stored in heavy plastic cases that were supposed to prevent this kind of damage.
This complete concert seems to have never been uploaded to RUclips before, so I felt it was worth it anyway. This is the classic 1982 concert date from Seattle, Washington, which was aired on MTV in this complete version, in late 1982 and an edited version (two songs shorter) on Nickelodeon and VH-1 in 1983-1984. It was also broadcast on radio stations around the USA courtesy a King Biscuit Flower Hour transcription disc that was edited even further. It features the original lyric version of "It's A Miracle", which at this time was still being performed as "It's America", but following a few critical notes sent to publicist Susan Blond's office wondering why Boy George was being negative about his US fame, the lyrics were changed to "It's A Miracle", which several people thought George was singing, ANYWAY.

Wow the Backup singer Helen Terry could have been a Star all by herself. What a Powerful and Soulful Voice. I cant remember ever a Band with just one Single Backup Singer. I see why Boy George featured her. What a Talent.
Helen sings like ARETHA! I don't say that lightly, since Aretha Franklin's my favorite female singer.

I watched this when MTV aired it. 😀 Their first album is amazing. The early 80s were incredible!

Kissing to be Clever was a masterpiece-and there was NOTHING like it out at the time. And now that I know what all the songs are about they are even better. Black Money has to be one of the best “Unrequited Love” songs ever.

My 2 friends and I blew up the balloons for this concert. We were promised free tickets and backstage passes if we could blow them all up. Just us and our teenage hot air. At first, the manager changed his mind until we pitched the biggest bitch. I wanted to stand center stage, but my friends wanted to sit up with the MTV cameras. That’s where we ended up. At least they regretted their decision as soon as it started. I remember how surprised I was at how tall George was. His hand was huge. He was so shy and quiet while talking to me. I asked how he liked Seattle, and he said he didn’t know bc he just got there, lol. Mikey is more adorable in person.
Serenity B...... Yes, George would comment in some of his interviews in the 80's that a lot of people... especially fans... we're so surprised at just how big a guy he was! He said in " 60 Minutes... Australia " that in Los Angeles... at the airport... some of the fans said, " OH, MY GOD! YOU'RE SO BIG!!! OH! JESUS!!! I had seen in a tabloid once... not long after Culture Club had made the" scene ".... them saying what a large guy George really was. I know that you cannot believe much of what a tabloid paper says... but, in this case... it was true! I noticed how large his hands were too. Matter of fact... When George was on a talk show ( usually most of the talk show hosts were men ) and he would shake the host's hand... George's hand was ALWAYS larger than the host's hand!!! OH... I envy you and your friends! I sure do wish that I could have met George!!!!

First time I saw them was 1985, the price had raised to an astronomical $29! 😆
That's was " 1983" now it's 2024, tickets are very, very expensive now.
In 2016, I paid $ 350 for an upfront culture club concert. I COULD NOT definitely afford $1,600 for M and G, VIP!!!!!!
I thought the prices were a rip-off.

It is surprising to see performers from the past did not need a headphone to remember the words of the song.
It would be nice if MTV would put these concerts on DVD.
MTV would have to get clearance from the publishing companies; they can’t just mass distribute it because they aired it.

@@australorp6367 The case is being heard next month (March) in London. Jon was pushed OUT of the band (by George) in the middle of their 2018 tour and is suing for missed payments (and I believe loss of future income also).

Michael Nelson8510.... I do too! The guys in his band were good musicians, something that is often overlooked. I liked George a LOT more as part of Culture Club than as a solo artist, or that other group.

@@arielspini1435 “It’s A Miracle” is about Hollywood and having your dreams come true. “It’s America” would have made a great title since it’s talking about the American dream essentially.
This is the George I remember and love, with his rabbi's hat and braids! I think his long hair was a good thing, looking back at the band's history makes me think of that biblical story about Samson, things started to go the other way after he cut his hair.
You can hear that VHS tape drag but you can still hear so much of the music and spirit, so Pure 80s+ Forever

Great stuff. I was 12 years old when this was aired. I remember at the time they were a really headline-attracting band with the UK tabloids. It's only in the last few years I have come to appreciate how good they were (and delighted they still are).
Thanks so much for sharing this! I saw them on this tour in Philly at the Ripley Music Hall. Following year saw them at the Tower Theatre. They were great live! Great vocals and stamina, killer band. They were much more than their costumes.

I'm mostly a metal fan and I'm really impressed at how sharp and cohesive the band sounds here. They'd obviously played together quite a bit, everybody seems comfortable and having a good time. Extra points for Boy George sharing the spotlight with back-up singer Helen Terry.

I was obsessed with George in the 80s, I've been to a couple of concerts, and shook his hand. I can't wait for the new Boy George movie, I hope they get someone that actually looks like him. The guy in the movie, " worried about the boy" wasn't convincing enough to play George, he didn't even look like him.

@@lessismore8533 He wasn't in cc when I saw him, first time was in 95 at Shepherds Bush, the second time was in my home town of Preston 2008. In Shepherds Bush I sang out "sing everything I own" he wasn't happy with me and said " if you want to be famous bring your own record out". That made my night, hahaha. And your right the guy in taboo would of been an excellent choice in that movie.

I've noticed artists like to play their new stuff at concerts so they can get it in front of people, I think a LOT of people were with you in wanting to hear "Everything I Own". I'd like to know exactly how many times it was played. I have another recording from Philadelphia (The "Gypsy Boy" bootleg CD), but those three times are the only times I know about. It must have not gone over very well with audiences because it was cut EARLY. I have a few shows that still have I'm Afraid Of Me (the other song that was cut from the set), and they are still fairly early in the itenerary.

The only song I like better than storekeeper is a tie between time clock of the heart and don’t go down that street
