Great playthrough. You cleared up some questions I had about the solo rules. I did notice you forgot to put a 2pt objective marker on 13B. That makes a huge difference to strategy.
I noticed that too. That causes 13B to be highly contested and the center of battle. The solo rules also have you replace the 3pt marker on 5B with a 2pt one.
When will this be available, please? [edit] - Hi, I just saw a release date of 30 November (the internet ... so helpful ...) I pre-ordered a copy! Osprey, you are costing me a fortune, but you have published some AMAZING games lately! Thanks!
Would you mind share some solo reference cards for maybe two or three scenarios as a pnp or pdf at BGG? Then we weould be able to tell you more about the scnearios :) And we have something to spend the time on while we ware waiting eagerly for the release.. :D
At one point you said that you would have edited out your thinking-time if it wasn't a live stream; I'm actually glad that part was in there as I loved to see the gears turn!
What a really useful video. Got this game yesterday & there are a few confusing interactions in solo play, that the rule book is vague on, but you have 100% cleared up. Thanks 🙏
Think you’re missing a 2 value objective on 13b! Makes this scenario way harder in my mind. Thanks for this playthrough! Helped me learn the game as I followed along. Looking forward to some later scenarios
I am just learning this game and spotted the same. I have spent a couple of hours trying to work out why I am setting up wrong for this scenario so thanks for the confirmation 😉
I’ve had this game for months but have never played ! This solo mode will change that and can’t wait for copy which is arriving soon. Thanks so much for uploading
This is a great video and always pleased to see how games work solo as that's how I do most of my gaming, I have just ordered all 3 editions tonight as they were cheaper than I was expecting after seeing the hours of gameplay in each box and how good the solo variant is. The one thing I struggle with is games manuals so videos like this are such a help.
Thanks for this video. I played the AI bot version this afternoon for the first time and it has cleared up a lot of questions I had. I was surprised at how many cards the AI player gets in a turn though!
Very clear and informative play through with the clearest camera setup I have seen from any Undaunted videos to date! Have had Undaunted for a few years, but rarely get an opponent, so reinforcements Solo Mode was very welcome, and plays a pretty good game. I would say though that at [1:50:08](ruclips.net/video/RIUAnL7ccAE/видео.html) I think you should have gone to 17B because it is the tile CLOSEST to the uncontrolled objective. The tie breaker [C] only counts if you have multiple squares all same distance from that 17B (12B was 3 tiles away). At least, that's how I read it. 🤷🏼♂
I liked this video, it was good to see this play through. I love this game, love this Solo mode! With these logical Bot cards they have all the fundamentals for a Digital mode allowing Solo play 🤞🏻
This is a great video. Great explanations of what’s going on and provided a good sense of the flow of the game and the decision space. Enjoyed seeing your angst!
Thanks for the run through, I really get a lot from watching you play through the games. Reinforcements looks pretty awesome. I've been playing with One Stop Co-Op Shop's solo version and I think I'm going to hold on to his bolstering rule ("Bolster Priority"), where instead of rolling a die to determine if a leader bolsters or commands/inspires it relies on how many cards the bot unit has active versus in their supply and removed from game.
This looks a little complicated but still seem to flow smooth enough! Im waiting for my Undaunted Normandy delivery and while im excited to try it out with a friend, I bought it with solo in mind!
I picked up Reinforcements, North Africa, and now Normandy specifically to play with the solo AI. I'm delighted they went this route; the way these solo cards work reminds me of my favorite solo AI for WWII wargames, Conflict of Heroes (Eastern Front expansion.) That is so much fun to play--Attack of the Bear 2nd edition. or with some tweaks, Kursk 3rd edition. Undaunted looks to deliver something of that "feel", but with a shorter play time. Excited to give this a go, and cheers for another very helpful video!
Great playthrough!! I can't wait until my pre-order arrives. Technically you should keep playing until you control 5 points or are pinned (in this scenario). However, since you already had more VP, you were gauranteed a win and so you were able to call it when you did. If you had fewer VP than the bot, then it would have been a race between capturing sufficient extra VP before getting pinned yourself by their scouts. You could have used your scouts as cannon fodder whilst moving your Riflemen to better positions or moved the scouts to the same tiles as theirs. This would be more aggressive, but would have protected your riflemen a bit more (maybe).
War games are not my jam, but I got Pavlov's House after seeing your play thru. I mainly play solo and Undaunted having many scenarios makes this interesting to me.
Unless it has changed in Reinforcements, you are never allowed to look at your opponent’s removed cards. Page 15, top, in green box. You did that at one point. You have to be a card counter! 🙂
Thanks for that, I didn't know the official rule was that you weren't allowed to look. However, that is a rule I will ignore as I personally feel that having a good memory shouldn't be a part of a game like this :)
Thanks for the video. I'm not sure at this stage if it feels more like fun or a chore. I guess many of the algorithms would eventually become more familiar and help streamline the AI process.
Honestly, it's very smooth, quick, and fun. Paul's choice of strategy turned this scenario into a drawn-out plinkfest. You can do it very quickly and easily by just moving your scouts down the lefthand side of the map, with your riflemen following behind, to capture the objectives. You can essentially, in this scenario, ignore the German troops entirely. The AI actions become second nature very quickly, and are simple and obvious during play.
Fantastic playthrough! I do have a question. At 1:49:21 , wouldn’t the enemy rifleman move onto the forest with your scout? Since it is targeting the scouted, uncontrolled objective in the top left, doesn’t the rifleman want to get closer to that objective? Moving down he remains two tiles away and gained no progress. On his second inspired turn he would then have moved onto the uncontrolled tile. I’m just curious for my own understanding for when I play.
I played a game of this last night w/North Africa. The bot system was pretty intuitive to me because it is very reminiscent of the COIN bots, which I have some experience with.
Sorry if I missed it, but why did you remove the objective from tile 13B (below the American deployment)? Is there an updated version of this scenario?
Paul- great video!! I immediately subscribed to your channel after watching this and "bolstered" my Undaunted collection with Reinforcements and North Africa (as solo gaming is my most frequent method of playing). One question I had around the end of the 55:00 minute mark when you move Scout A from tile 13B to 6A... why did the scout only move and scout once during its turn? I would assume it scouts 6A and then immediately scouts 16B as the second half of it's two tile movement/scouting capability. Am I missing something? Please let me know! Looking forward to more of your videos in the near future!
Hey Paul. Thanks for the playthrough! Got a rules query - At 37:30 you said that tile 5B was secure and moved Rifleman A off the tile. But earlier when reading out the criteria for whether a tile is secure or not, you said that a tile is secure if any one of the following is true: (1) the bot does not control the tile (false as the bot controls 5B); (2) the bot has OTHER combat counters on the tile (false, as Rifleman A is the only combat counter on the tile). Are there other criteria apart from those two? Because if it is just these two, and if my reading of the second criterion I quoted is correct, it means tile 5B is not secure and Rifleman A will attack instead of move.
The 3rd bullet point is: • You have no units with the Control action on the tile Phew! So yeah, the Germans controlled the tile, there was a riflemen there and nobody else, but... I didn't have any units there that could control it.
@@GamingRulesVideos Thanks for checking. The bot rules are clever and I'm really tempted to get all three games now. Had held back because there was no solo mode since my gaming group buddies are diehard eurogamers, but there's no excuse for me now!
Great video. My copy is coming today so will hopefully get it to the table over the weekend. The AI doesn’t seem all that interested in controlling objectives. Was that just in this game, or is this in general?
Great play through. I really enjoyed that. One question - what are Klingon subtitles? How do I turn them on, please? I know what Klingons are, and what subtitles are, but not Klingon subtitles. Am I just being dense? I want to see your errata, but the only subtitle thing I can turn on is the standard closed captioned option.
Thanks for the reminder. I do need to add some in. If I haven't added any, that's why none will show. I did get the setup wrong (objective markers in the wrong place), but made no mistakes during the playthrough (as far as I know)
Thoroughly enjoyed this playthrough. The AI pushed its deck too far overextending Scouts and it was definitely the correct decision to hammer their Riflemen. Side note, is the scenario different from regular Scenario 1? I know the starting German VP is decreased but I thought there’s a VP on the space beneath the American starting area? 1:35:20 At that point it actually is better to be stubborn. If you’re going to move, do it early to maximise the amount of time you have increased hit chance for. What you could do is move the Scout to distract the Scouts in the corner.
And that was a key mistake, unfortunately, as it would have driven the action from 7A to 13B. I should know, as I made the exact same mistake in my game yesterday!🙃
@@GamingRulesVideos Just started playing this for the first time (bought it as a little xmas gift for myself) and noticed the same thing - there's actually 3 VP mistakes: 6A & 13B should have 2VP and 3B none.
@@GamingRulesVideos First thing I noticed! You are doing such a great job and everything! Maybe remove the video and replay it? This broke the whole game, all the moves done by the bot are wrong from the very first turn ^^ The bot would never have moved up there for the 1 pointer, it's way smarter than such a terrible move!
I have a question about the AI card play order ... You keep specifying that the AI cards coming out are in the draw order (your words, with emphasis: " ... in that order!"), but then you always reorder them by initiative number... If initiative is always the determinant, then why specify the draw order prior to turing the AI's cards? Thanks!
I have been playing Reinforcements for a few days, and I think I understand now: any cards drawn that have the SAME INITIATIVE VALUE are played in the order they are drawn, I gather.
Great run through... BUT I played 7 games now and won 6 rather easy. So I think the AI Bot is not that strong. I made a house rule already to not put a counter on the hit AI Bot when it does not have the initiative... So it keeps the card no matter what in its turn.
The AI isn't very "forward" IMO. It is far slower than human players are, and in scenarios where it's just about capturing objectives, you can nip around it easily, most of the time.
@@thelastmotel I have to correct my first remark now after having played 14 solo games. In the later scenarios it seemed more difficult to win against the AI. My stats now are 9 wins versus 5 losses. Especially the newer Reinforcement scenarios are a challenge.
One mistake that made this much longer than it should have been: the host is calculating the range bonus incorrectly. You don't include the tile of the attacker when calculating the range bonus, only the tile of the defender. All the shots taken were +1 more than they should have been. Page 14 of the rule book.
I’m pretty sure I played correctly. If two units are on adjacent spaces, the range is 1. Therefore you add 1. if there is one tile between the units, the range is 2.
@@GamingRulesVideos In those instances, yes. I'm referring to the German Scouts on the western tiles. At 1:15:20 (twice) and 1:23:15 (three different targets) you included the tile the Scouts were standing on in figuring out the Range Bonus. The rules specifically state this tile isn't counted and you didn't count it in the engagements on the northern tile 7A. Does any of this really matter? Not really. It's a great game, you demonstrated it (and the great solo mode) wonderfully and gained a new subscriber. Apologies if my original comment was overly harsh.
@@nealsheeran4011 He played range correctly. When he was pointing at the tile under the defender he was adding the tile's defensive bonus, not an extra range. Only variation from the rules was that he was counting tile range from the defender's perspective as opposed to the attacker's (which are effectively the same value).
This game seems to have gotten really fiddly. Solo really seems painful. I am cringing watching this trying to keep all the if then but, this and this and control marker on tokens.
Honestly, as good as this video is, it does make the AI seem far more faffy than it really is. IRL it plays more smoothly and intuitively. Having to stop to explain things to people, as Paul has to in his videos, can make a lot of games seem more twiddly than they really are.
Was hoping the solo version would be good, but the order the bot player's units has do stuff just makes it so easy for the player. The Germans were buggered the moment the AI had to move both riflemen to the same spot. That is poor game design sadly.
@@fyrnice25 I agree. Also, I'd wager that Alexis hasn't played the solo mode, and is just making a sweeping statement based on probably only watching a small part of this video.

Anyone else tried this BOT vs. BOT?
I dislike you immensely as now I *must* acquire the entire Undaunted line! 🙂
Was hoping the solo version would be good, but the order the bot player's units has do stuff just makes it so easy for the player. The Germans were buggered the moment the AI had to move both riflemen to the same spot. That is poor game design sadly.
You didn’t play the AI right
This is a two player game. Solo ai seems stupid af and boring.
You must not have played it right. That bold a statement looks silly with so many scenarios.
@@fyrnice25 I agree. Also, I'd wager that Alexis hasn't played the solo mode, and is just making a sweeping statement based on probably only watching a small part of this video.
