I agree with you. It seems stupid to reward someone with a million dollars just for lucking out and picking the right case; a monkey could do that. But you have to know your stuff to be on Jeopardy. You don't win by luck alone...it actually requires much knowledge about various categories. I quit watching Deal or No Deal when it was on the first time around because it's not as interesting (for me anyway) as some other shows, and there are just too darn many commercials on DOND. That show could be made into a 15-minute show without the commercials and delay tactics. I like Howie Mandel, but I'm not a fan of the show. Jeopardy is so much more interesting, but I seldom watch that because I'm not a fan of Alex Trebek because he has a way of trying to make people look stupid when they give a wrong answer. I liked the original host of Jeopardy, Art Fleming, much better. He wasn't overbearing. Alex wants everyone to think he's super smart when he says what the correct answer should be, but anyone can look like that with the answer right in front of his face.
I loved this clip! The ultimate winner was so very happy that I cried for her joy. Don't you just love how her joy shakes her whole body? A moment she will remember for the rest of her life. How very special for her -- and us, that we could share in her happiness. And it was so special that the other contestants were happy for her too.
10 years ago as a young kid, watching this on TV this was so much money. Now I have more cash in the bank than all 3 of their winnings put together but still can't buy afford a house because the average price in my town went from 500k to 1.5 million over the last 10 years.
