- The Film Companion Directors Adda 2023 had a great lineup of directors. They talked about their work and shared stories about the surprising ways their careers have gone and the emotional parts of making movies. They discussed how hard it is to make a film, how they choose actors, and what it's like to work alone as a filmmaker. They also talked about how movies deal with gender issues, how stories affect people who watch them, and how making movies has helped them grow personally.

Hindi language always had Class A directors. They take awful time to make movies. From 2000-2019, not even one director from Kannada was called to these meetings. That's what I meant

@@prafinsiva4033 There's a difference i found in kaathal. The love portrayed in this movie is pure without showing anything in physical. Mostly these kinds of movies(also the above mentioned)show intimate scenes which make people see LGBTQ always in a sexual way.

It's the rise of alternative cinema from Kannada that's pleasing which isn't some magnum opus. Wish the trend continues with the rest of the regions. P. S. Malayalam industry already does this.

More than saying its a good thing he did, I would say it was a good lesson taught to the Hindi speaking people who break into it without realising the communication gap they initiate. Not to mention the most irritating Punjabis who use the Punjabi language as an extension of Hindi! So in the end is the inference that we all agree English is the language that brings all of us in the country together, more than any other language in the country😅

@@Fugazi77 I wish I could say the same, but the only expression I saw on his face was of constant pain.. he had like 2 expressions in total in the entire movie. The girl was amazing though, she’s the only reason the movie was even remotely interesting.

It also shows how Tamil audience have evolved & matured to make even socially, politically strong films to be blockbusters allowing Tamil filmmakers to do more experiments & express/explore more freely without holding back...

@@Asecret-rd1qe Movie buffs and cinephiles definitely loved it for its making, I too agree its a slow paced movie but thats how its supposed to be ryt, we are in a phase of filmmaking where everyone wanna watch movies which gives them dopamine hit every now and then as reels do. We have to increase our attention span to truly enjoy these old school, slow paced artistic movies.

I think many of them explained what Nelson actually did with Jailer. Yes, it was all this slow-mo mass elevating scenes but he absolutely redefined it. To make such big stars in the film to do ntg yet bring the mass factor out by their planned executions was indeed refreshing. Now, that's a redefining commercial cinema. To make thalaivar be a regular guy and give a comeback at the right time with the right screenplay was such a refreshing moment.

Vetrimaaran has built good reputation. His all films are hit. That's why Viduthalai Producer is not afraid of budget. He knew that the movie will become superhit and he will get the money. If its vetrimaaran's film Dhanush will say ok to act without even asking story. Even if I have crores of money I will give money to make his dream project without any compromise.

Such profound thought processes and brought to the table by Hemanth Rao. Amazing to see directors discussing the challenges they faced in great detail, and their approach and thought process in different circumstances. Konkona listens so keenly and is absolutely involved in the discussion. So much to learn from how she conducted herself. It’s a delight to hear the directors of the South Indian film industry talk about their experiences, and narrate the sincerity and dedication they have towards their craft and their vision for a cinema!

Of all the directors who are here, so happy to see Jeo Baby give credit to the two writers of Kaathal, Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. Proud that he used this platform to promote Shruthy Saranyam’s (LGBTQI+ filmmaker) movie B12 to B44 vare which faced multiple hurdles for release. Jeo Baby is an excellent example of walking the talk-when you use the seat at the table that you earned to spotlight others who don’t have it yet! For those complaining about his English, his words have far more impact than any of the others there in stark contrast to Karan Johar. And to the Vanga fans, watch Jeo Baby’s Kaathal-The Core, another excellent example of men who are super secure in their manhood and talent that they can tell the story of a homosexual individual and their family with deep sensitivity and empathy. Kudos to Mammotty, artist and human being par excellence!

Apart from watching Vetrimaran, Karthik Subburaj and Nelson amongst these amazing directors. I was happy to see Jeo being able to convey things in his own way, despite english not being a language he is comfortable with, it can be very overwhelming for a person in such a scenario but I am glad he got through it by communicating and getting things across in his own way. Shows that when it comes to art you have to have a good hold of the language you are making films in and you have to be good in the art of film making which all of these people are..
