Great information! I’ve traveled with these before and said I never would again because the install was so loose and difficult (and scary), but this video solved a lot of the issues I was having. I planned to lug around 2 nuna ravas for my upcoming trips, but this really makes me think I can save myself the extra 100lb hassle! Thank you!!!
This is SO helpful and really encouraging for nervous FTM about to do some solo parenting for the first time while partner is away. I just love your approach & general vibes. Feels like getting advice from a lovely and non-judgy friend. THANK YOU!
Lol I was tightening from the shoulder belt before I saw your method of tightening from inside the seat, was wondering why it’s so loose. Thank you so much!
So helpful, thank you! I'm a Graco girl, but bought this for travel and for an extra seat. I am not a huge fan of the only recline option for my older toddler , but she fits well in it.
So helpful - I have found it tough to get a good install with the seatbelt on this but this totally helps. One that confuses me is that the manual says to put the belt "in front of" the crotch belt... I interpret that as "underneath" but I could also see how that could mean "on top of" so I'm just not sure. The picutre they provide is not very helpful. I wish manuals had both drawn as well as actual pictures to help.
The front of the car seat is the part closest to where the child's feet would be. The seat belt should be in front of the crotch buckle, aka on the side that the child's legs would be and not the side the child's bottom would be
@@safeintheseat Ok -after your response, I was still incredulous because the seatbelt was sitting on top of the crotch buckle which seemed strange. Then, because you put a picture of the manual page, I realized we had the crotch buckle in slot #3 which is not allowed in rear-facing. When we switched it to #2, the seat belt was perfectfly fine. Thank you so much!
Liked and subscribed! Excellent video ❤ I have a question - which method should I be using? Is it safer to use the metal clips? Is there a preferred method, and why? Perhaps the seat belt method is only for use in cars without metal connectors? 🤔
Any idea how to prevent the shoulder straps from falling back through the seat (when the seat is empty)? Seems like it’s from the weight of the splitter plate in the back, but haven’t noticed it happen in videos I watch of other people with this car seat. It’s driving me crazy 😅
Another video for this seat said that if the child can sit up on their own that the level marker for rear facing does not need to be level. Is that wrong information?
When I install it RF, I feel like the recline gets messed up when it tightened and goes more at an angle. Will the towel keep it reclined but still tight?
I have the same issue! When I pull to tighten the straps the whole seat slides up (even with a super tight install). I was hoping she would troubleshoot this! I have used a towel but I don’t find it to really help this problem.
@@safeintheseat I’ve used a towel and find it still slides when I pull to tighten the harness. Maybe I need more towels?! PS. That was a great video and super helpful!
Please help me understand where a tall child puts their legs in the rear facing position? My 2 year old is tall (not 40 inches yet) and his legs are scrunched up like a frog when he’s in this seat. He’s at the proper recline level, but he only has two options for rear facing - sit like a frog or sit criss-cross applesauce. Neither seem comfortable for an extended period of time, but there is no way for him to straighten his legs. Is the seat made for a child to sit this way? Cross-legged?
They put them wherever they want. He can also put his legs up on the vehicle seat. Kids have much more flexibility than we do because they have more bones since they are not ossified. It does not hurt them.
Thanks for rear facing seat installation. You did forgot to say that all seats have date codes per DOT. A friend gave me a car seat that is dated seven years after the expiration. I did not take it. I bought a new seat that you were demoing. Our grandkids are too important not to have a safe seat.
Wait... If you're installing this rear facing with the seat belt, don't the latch connectors need to be routed through the forward facing belt path before being put on the storage hooks?
Page 19 of the manual does state that 'When used Rear-Facing, thread lower anchor belt through Forward-Facing Belt Path as shown'. Maybe that changes with the model. Bought mine a few months ago. But a great video regardless. Much easier to follow than the paper instructions.
How comfortable does it seem? Im considering this for flights/travel because of its light weight and price point. But my hesitation is that it may not have enough seat padding/comfort? Edit: also thanks for this in depth video!! So helpful!!
The airplane buckle does make it uncomfortable other back so I used an airplane pillow behind my child’s back. Bring something for a little padding as all that is between the buckle and their spine is a thin pad.
Does this car seat have anything that jabs the baby in the back? I've seen some reviews about it but I'm curious about your thoughts on comfort since you're clearly an expert lol
So I have this seat as our travel seat and I cannot for the life of me ever get it tight -- it always moves around (and in your video with the LATCH straps it does the same) IS THAT SAFE?? When I tighten the belts around my son, the foot also rotates UP making the seat recline even more, and I've never been able to get it not to do that. It makes me very worried about safety :( I've done inside-out and I even tried with the seatbelt in a recent trip and it still rotated back every time I tightened the straps around my son (rearfacing)
It's allowed to move up to 1" at the belt path. The way it's moving in the video is fine. If you are having trouble keeping it at the proper recline, this seat does allow rolled towels or pool noodles. Using those would keep the recline from changing when you are tightening the harness
This seat only has one allowed recline, so if there's no way to get a different seat, you'll just have to continue using this one as is. Once this seat is outgrown rear-facing, it's going to be outgrown forward-facing as well due to a very low harness height. Plus, if your child is only 12#, it's a very long time until they can forward face in any seat. The recommended minimum age is 2 years old. Maybe you can find a Safe Kids Coalition near you who can assist you. www.safekids.org/safe-kids-coalitions-united-states
We got this as a travel car seat for the airplane, it’s just ok. It most definitely will not work up to 40” my toddler is 35” and he looks like he’s a circus contortionist when he’s trying to sit in it and he hates it. Also it NEVER gets tight, it still rocks side to side when he’s in it and I have to pin it down with the front seat to lock it into place otherwise it will literally tip over. Yes I followed all the tricks in this video, same issue.
It's usually outgrown around 36-37." Pinning it down with the front seat is not a safe option. Please meet with a CPST near you. You can find one here: portalskcms.cyzap.net/dzapps/dbzap.bin/apps/assess/webmembers/secure/manage?webid=SKCMS&pToolCode=CERT-SEARCH&pAdd=Yes
Hi, do you know how can I extend the arnes? I have this seat but the arnes is to short. My son is 2,4 years old and his weight is 12 kilos and 91 centimeters Thanks!
We bought this car seat for the plane and it was not good. The seatbelt on the airplane runs in between the cloth and the actual car seat which means the buckle of the seatbelt is right on the child’s back so he was very uncomfortable. This is the first car seat I’ve seen where the seatbelt actually runs right under the material That the child sits on. It might be OK for a car because the buckle of the seatbelt on the car is usually by your hip. But for the plane, the buckle rest right on your belly so it’s on the child’s back/butt when he sits on it
This was the most helpful car seat installation video I ever watched. Thank you for my first time mom❤❤

The vehicle seat belt or the car seat harness?

You might be able to see, it’s can’t see what you mean by “in front” of the lower anchor strap. Do you mean to the back or front of the car?

They shouldn't be able to go far since there is a chest clip to stop that, so I'm not sure I understand what's happening with your seat
Thank you for another in-depth video!!
My pleasure!
Another video for this seat said that if the child can sit up on their own that the level marker for rear facing does not need to be level. Is that wrong information?
That is wrong information now. This seat used to allow that a few years ago, but it doesn't anymore. Cosco changed the rule.

A towel or pool noodle can be helpful to keep it at the proper recline
@@safeintheseat I’ve used a towel and find it still slides when I pull to tighten the harness. Maybe I need more towels?! PS. That was a great video and super helpful!
Yes this happens to me too! It makes the seat feel unusable! Would love a way to make this not happen…
The pool noodle would do the opposite… it’s tipping farther back away from the seat not towards the seat

Actually some seats just go by date of purchase instead.
What does that mean, per dot? Why would it not be safe to use?
Wait... If you're installing this rear facing with the seat belt, don't the latch connectors need to be routed through the forward facing belt path before being put on the storage hooks?
You don't have to with this seat, but you can if it's getting in your way

Can I make this more upright for older babies ? Does it have to be level?
This seat has to be reclined to the level line at all times, it's the only recline allowed
How comfortable does it seem? Im considering this for flights/travel because of its light weight and price point. But my hesitation is that it may not have enough seat padding/comfort?
Edit: also thanks for this in depth video!! So helpful!!

It doesn't

There are two lower anchors and you must use both.

Yes, it's actually very easy as long as it's a lap belt that can be tightened.
