great review, to the point and accurate. I own a BMCC and I love it But id rather have a RED then a URSA at least until they change the sensor. for me latitude is more important than resolution.
Finally a digital camera that looks like a studio Mitchell! I'm so tired of those black magic jewelery boxes- I mean cameras. I'm looking forward to have a foot long Panavision-like viewfinder next- let's get on it!
dude! we use this camera in our university, and youre completely wrong... 1. the camera isnt back heavy, your tripad is not well configurated...on your tripod head you can regulate the weight line... 2. this is an production camera...a studio camera...the ursa isnt build do hold it on your shoulder, so dont mark that bad.. 3. we use an viewfinder and it works with and hdmi sdi perfect.. 4. the assistant monitor is to ASSIST the cameraman. you dont have to push record as an assistant... sry for my english
Hyvä meininki. Kiinnostaa päästä kokeilemaan joskus. Voiks samalle cfastille siis kuitenkin tallentaa eri resoluutioita? Mites cfast 1.0 kortit, toimiiks ollenkaan ja jos, pystyvätkö 4k:n?
Thank you for your feedback. What would be the start-up costs in US dollars to get the basic accessories needed to run? Tripod, Batteries, Lens. Anything else needed?
***** I was thinking about attaching the quick release plate to my Slik tripod. It should be able to take the weight of the Mini. But after lens and battery it may be pushing the limit. I sent you a email with my wish list. You are correct as the total is just over $5000 USD.
Thank you Julius for the great work and professionalism. A few questions: Your tripod, what model (and cost) is that? On the 4.0 vs 4.6 what would a sensor upgrade cost should I purchase the 4.0 version URSA? And any existing sideXside (with shot footage) reviews of yours (or others) of URSA vs, URSA mini that you can suggest looking at?
But my question refers about the quality of sound recording... Is it okay to plug a good mike or do you reckon a good external recorder does a better job ??
***** Thanks for the response! So around 75Wh power draw I imagine, which is expected with all the monitors and RAW, etc. Hopefully the Ursa Mini will be around 40W! Looking to get the 4.6K version, almost got the Ursa because it was the best camera for me for the price but luckily BMD heard my prayers! That camera was pretty much built for me, even though the big Ursa is still the better camera, I'm gonna be so jealous with the higher frame rates in 4K and when the 6K or 8K sensor comes around with 20 stops of DR (yes, I can dream! :P), then it will be the most worthwhile investment in the market ;)
Great video I have watched many times. what lens did you use to enable the iris function? is this limited only to fixed aperture lenses and will not work on primes such as samyang / rokinon that have decoupled aperture? I am thinking of getting some primes as well as Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD SP. Your feedback would be a great help ursa EF mount version a more in depth understanding of the iris function would be a great help there is little resource for this anywhere.
***** Your a legend thank you. Have you tried the handheld rig yet with rossette and shoulder mount, and the evf adapter? Would be great to see this in action. Also I noticed in your video that you did not use any nd filters. When you are shooting for real what filters would you say are an essential asset to using ursa - i will need to get these, and someone of your experience will know best! The more i see of this camera the more I love it, you summed it up nicely when you said "This giant here captures some beautiful images". I also watched the making of your short film. You got some serious skill. Keep up the good work!
***** Hi Julius, on the ef mount version would you use matt box to put filters in or attach them directly onto the lenses? and what sound setup would you use (im thinking of 1 x lavier and one rode ntg-3 mic) - im thinking of not using external recorder just what is built into the ursa as it looks like it can get the job done. Im thinking of having pocket camera on glidecam as B camera for larger scale productions. is there a device to output ursa's timecode to device such as iphone or ipad for when this is necessary? Advice please would be appreciated. not long not until i buy. Also any possibility to elaborate on your handheld tips as in this video you said it was not good. another video covering this would be awesome. Your review of ursa definately best on the net. thanks
hi there, I shoot with 5d3, and I really need more fps to nicely slow down my video. 5d3 just can't do this, even with ML hack. I did lots of research, and found the new ursa mini 4k version might be a good choice for me. this is the $3000 cheaper model, not the 4.6k one. I am not professional, so $3000 is the most I can afford to get a new camera. Do you think the cheaper ursa mini 4k will be a good choice for mr? What other suggestions do you have? 1. under 3000 dollars 2. high fps at 1080p 3. can take advantage of all my ef mount lens. thanks a lot.
Hdmi cables are very unreliable and most professional cameras don't include inputs for them. When I upgraded to this camera I sold my old EVF to upgrade to the Alphatron EVF brand. This camera when shoulder mounted I seem to forget about the weight especially compared with the broadcast cameras I use at work.
The graded footage is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bigger sized camera do have, indeed, a huge impact on clients.
Fantastic review many thanks.
Very nice but what ever happened with the sun at 2:05 !!! does painted pink ???
Also an impressive camera in 2021!
Sadly the upgradability never materialized. Somehow it happens every time a company releases a revolutionary upgradeability feature in a new product.
i love your wish list. completely agree!!
I'm so happy that blackmagic fixed the black hole problem for the ursa mini
great review, to the point and accurate. I own a BMCC and I love it But id rather have a RED then a URSA at least until they change the sensor. for me latitude is more important than resolution.
The performance is very professional.
The camera is fantastic. Incredibly good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome review. Please would you tell me what mounting plate/tripod set up you've got going there?
Great review, thanks a lot for the comprehensive rundown.
Thanks this video. Very interesting and reference.
Really nice work - thanks for the insight.
Great review!
Nice camera and some great footage!
Excellent review mate. Do you still have this camera?
Great review. It's a pitty it does not come with HDMI port.
Thanks for your review, very interesting!
Thank you for this review!!!!

Such a good review
Wonderful review. Thank you. How do you feel about this camera since the review?
great review, you really speak out something the end-users will concern
Great review brother.
is this still a good camera
You still have this camera? Tell us about that in 2021.

sry for my english
great vid thanks for sharing!
Thank you! really helpful!
I'd like Raw recording at the HD resolution as well.
They should also do a 2.5k res.
End review at 0:14

What's up with the Sun @2.02?
what kind of tripod head and tripod is that?
I don't know the exact head, but the locking system is a VCT-14.
cool!!!
does the ursa use 2.5 ssd cards, like the bmpc?
is that Zeiss ZE lens which used for 35mm ( Full Frame ) DSLR ??! ...
Enjoyed your review very much, I'm very interested in your thoughts on the Sony PXW-FS7 and why you didn't mentioned it as another possible option.
What do you think about the new URSA mini?
***** Thank you for your feedback. Do you have any lens recommendation that is low cost but still looks good?

***** Hello Julious, it would be too much asking you to copy the link of the tripod and the batteries that you recommend in the second option?
What tripod is that? What's the name and model please? Need a heavy duty tripod that can handle my new Ursa. Something under $1,000.
Thank you Julius for the great work and professionalism. A few questions: Your tripod, what model (and cost) is that? Appreciate the info. Keep up the great work.
Is focus included or is that exrta?
Whats the name of the song in the background in the beggining of the video? Thanks in advance
+donovan little Sorry i just saw it in the discription lol
+juliousfi great review! what kind of slider or stabilizer would you use with a so heavy camera?
Hi what mounting screws doyou use for the base plate at 8:47
Yes but these are flat head screws (countersunk) I can't find them anywhere.
Cool. What's the ISO range?
zoltan902 shoot raw.
is this 4.6 or the 4k
What about the sound recording quality of the URSA ?
you mean, it is okay to plug a good microphone and not use external recorder instead ?
But my question refers about the quality of sound recording... Is it okay to plug a good mike or do you reckon a good external recorder does a better job ??
thank you very very much for your info !
Is ths camera intisrically save for coverage in the oil and gas
Don't look at the Blackmagic cameras if you want a weather/dust sealed camera. But if you really want one, you should look at a rain cover.
black spot is still, as shoot the sun. I think it is big problem. What about do you think? How do you adjust the black spot?
Whats The Name of the this track!!!!???
Friend is better than the ursa mini 4k in low light ?? And another query how to update the sensor?
What do you think about the MINI URSA between SONY FS7 ?
Thank you !!!
How long can consume batteries
not bad holds so ever bit longs
How Much Is It
What tripod are you using? I just purchased the URSA and I know I need a plate but the plate will work with any tripod or specific brand?
Its a VCT-14 style locking system. Its a great system for bigger cameras or rigs. Smallrig makes a good option.
beautiful footage but man your voice sounds like a muppet character. :D
WOCKA WOCKA!
seriously though, that was a pro review.
That's because of his native language. Listen to a french man pronounce all the "r"s like he's struggling.
Needless insulting the creator for sharing his experience.
how much does it coast with the lens and everything to get it start working ( Filming)?
Does it come with the Battery lens or just the body for that price ?
how much total is the one that u using on the VIDEO with the lens and the Battery .Total price in American dollar
Okay thx, and is that Used or New ?
Battery life?

+juliousfi Ho wow... that's a massive power consumption. My (6 years old) shoulder camera give my 3h on old and abused 93Wh battery :o
+juliousfi what's camera is best for lowlight recording with 4K?
I just need to test GPU with footage from this camera
