The composer smashed it out of the park. Theres very few soundtracks that fit the tone of the game so completely, I really couldn't imagine any other soundtrack doing better.
Guess what. When hempuli (creator of ESA and composer for the soundtrack) was doing a talk on one of his other games, Baba is You, he mentioned he “isn’t that good at composing” or something along those lines and like. Dude. DUDE.
@@hiphyro Actually Hempuli did not compose ESA's soundtrack. Baba is You was the first game he composed his own music for. Baba is You has fantastic music though so I agree with your point on Hempuli.
@@hiphyro Thats really interesting to hear. Axiom Verge's OST was also composed by the solo dev and in a interview-short doc video he said it was the easiest part. I think AV is really far from perfect but damn, the soundtrack is one of the strongest points
Swift Mecha goes so hard. Makes every boss fight feel ten times more intense. The soundtrack for this game is just incredible. I replayed it again recently and couldn't believe how good these tunes were. I've been repeatedly coming back to this video for about a week now to have another listen.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 Ahhhh! Thanks man, I'm pretty unfamiliar with the big old-school metroid(vanias). Thanks for clearing it up. If I enjoyed this ESA will I enjoy the older metroid games?
@@videomakertje Hard to say, it depends on what you like about ESA. The first three Metroid games all have controls that are significantly worse than ESA's controls in my opinion, so if that's really important to you, maybe you won't like it. Thankfully, those games are also way easier, so it doesn't create too much frustration. The old Metroid games expect the player to get hit and compensate by giving you more health and letting you recharge your health more easily. Samus has attacks with more range than the robot, so that changes how combat feels. None of them have a postgame, and you get alternate endings simply by finishing the game faster. The optional content is lacking in the first two Metroid games, but quite good in Super Metroid. Metroid 1 is very non-linear, Metroid 2 is very linear, and Super Metroid can be non-linear if you know how to sequence breaks, so it's probably the closest to ESA in that aspect. Where ESA is probably the closest to the old Metroid games is in the atmosphere. The soundtrack feels similar. Its aesthetic is a very obvious mix of Metroid 1 and Super Metroid.
I fucking love this game and its ost, it's so good ! The difficulty is on point in normal mode, challenging enough to keep things interesting but not as difficult as people make it look like
Am i the only one that finds it oddly satisfying that the red bar with the number is right at the spot where the player ui is. Also really great soundtrack, might just buy it.
***** For some reason even adding the 0 worked for you. I dunno why... Maybe they typed in a character that doesn't show up in the view but interferes with parsing the timestamps....
+Alexole Eya I think they wanted to copy the metroid NES style. I would love the game more, if the artstyle was inspired by the Super Metroid/ Fusion Style.
It's really interesting how a game with a robot hero has a soundtrack with such feelings
Its an AI so may not be too far off from human

Spinning Dandelion is the song that got me hook on the game.
Very Boards of Canada feel to it, amazing stuff

This game and this soundtrack deserve so much more credit.
Wistful Departure makes me feel really nostalgic.
The music I listened to the most ingame?
Swift Mecha.
:'(
Those be tough bosses.
Yeah, Serpent 5 is truly a pain in the ass
The Green Room is such a beautiful track, i feel it really captures what i feel for this game.
14:29 Gives me chill. I always look forward to that part when I'm in Maridi-I mean the ocean dome.
What do you mean with Maridi?
@@videomakertje Maridia is an area in Super Metroid which has a very similar aesthetic.

Wow, I didn't realise this game was 5 years old.
it took me way too long to realize the footage was playing in reverse
such nice music
i just randomly came across this stuff, it's really awesome. good job! :)

Reminds me of Metroid
I think that was the idea
When u make a video game, but realize you're a musical savant in the process.
I really liked this game but it's too hard for me to finish. :
i can help you in trade of a small loan of a million rupees
I actually got back to the game eventually and beat it, including all the crazy extra content. gitting gud was acquired.
Went to Serpent 5 with only 14 hp on normal, I think I will be stuck with Swift Mecha for a looong time...
Your timestamp for 6:08 is broken.
+alienspacebat Thanks for letting me know. For some reason youtube doesn't want to convert it to a link.
+Kaikaki By the way, my favorite track is the ship theme, Sigil Summoning. It's so tranquil, like a sanctuary far away from everything else happening.
