      What beats it? Dreamcast flopped in sales, but gamers loved it(as I recall). Otherwise, I can't think of a contender.

      Anguel Roumenov Bogoev It was in the same generation as the universally loved PS2, to put things into timestamp perspective.

    • @AdobadoFantastico
      @AdobadoFantastico 9 лет назад +39

      Sarutys999 I know. I'm just curious what he thought was more underrated.
      Out of the other generations, I feel like everything that was "underrated" usually had some critical design flaw that led to legitimate complaints.
      With the GameCube it always felt like everyone was just convinced it sucked, but had no way (nor desire) to substantiate. They were just convinced it was somehow lame. Then in my last 2 years of college it felt like everyone wanted to play shit on the GC rather than anything else.
      Just my own, anecdotal observations.

    • @Shankovich
      @Shankovich 9 лет назад +44

      Anguel Roumenov Bogoev It barely sold to 30 million hardware units which was very low compared to the other consoles in its line, yet it had one of the highest retention rates of all time.
      I remember a lot of people making fun of it, but it had so many games worth having. It should have sold way more consoles than it did.

    • @AdobadoFantastico
      @AdobadoFantastico 9 лет назад +18

      Shankovich Absolutely. I really hope Nintendo recovers from this severe downturn. I don't want them to go the way of Sega, and it's a shame they seem to be losing out because they actually care about making games, rather than piling on secondary and tertiary functionality.

      I should mention that I had nostalgia in mind when I posted my comment. Personally, I will have very strong even emotional memories or ties to games I played from age 7-13. That might just be me. It doesn't mean video games are less fun when you're older.

Then when I was older and bought wii the metroid prime trilogy was one of my first choices to buy and play. I was old enough to be interested in the lore but had the nostalgia aspect as well......

    I remember booting the game very first time and listened the title screen music for like an hour, because I couldn't stop it. It was very dark and chilly winter night, my family was sleeping and I was just staring at the wobbling microbes in CRT screen and felt like I was getting sucked in. There is no words accurate enough to describe how mesmerizing that moment was, how huge impact the soundtrack has made on me and how it single-handedly reshaped my understanding for music. I was already exposed for very different types of electronic music back in millennium, but this shit... for my 11 year old brains it was just absolute mind-erupting revelation.
    Oh, and the game itself is still my very favourite of them all.

      I’m currently in high school with a switch, being mocked lightly by my friends. Nintendo hasn’t changed, and neither has their game quality. Masterpieces like Odyssey, BoTW, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and soon to be Metroid Prime and Smash Bros are only on switch.

    • @robertb5074
      @robertb5074 5 лет назад +3

      eh, you made the wrong choice and are trying to justify it. your friends are all playing games together, while you're alone with your switch playing the same thing over and over and over again. Nintendo fanboys like to use the word masterpiece. Odyssey, BoTW, and ESPECIALLY mario Kart 8 are not masterpieces. I have them all, as well as a switch. But I'm a big boy now so I have ps4 as well. to say Nintendo hasn't changed at all; you sound a bit naive. Nintendo has changed drastically since my years in early grade school.

    • @_strayfer_
      @_strayfer_ 5 лет назад +14

      Robert Belyski I think you’ve got the wrong idea that I’m a fan boy. Trust me, I am far from it. When I said Nintendo hasn’t changed, I meant how Nintendo was viewed. People still view them as a kids company. I am not a fan boy because I aware that they’ve changed. I hated the Wii. Bad console in my opinion. Nintendo appealed to casuals too hard. Bought a 360 and played with my friends. Nintendo is no where near perfect. Take the garbage Wii U and online service for example. But my opinions also valued just quality games that don’t focus on story but gameplay. That’s why I bought a switch. My opinion is that zelda and Mario Odyssey are masterpieces. The switch also conveniently had most of the third party I cared for like Skyrim, Doom and NBA. I have no clue why I said Mario Kart is a masterpiece, but it’s still a fun game. I also own a pc so I still can play with friends. I just think the switch turned Nintendo around drastically.

      Feelings of being alone and isolated on an alien world is part of what makes Metroid 'Metroid' ever since the first game. They captured that amazingly and it's a shame they strayed from the formula slightly for the sequels. Fortunately they all still retained that feeling of being a one-woman army playing as Samus with all the tech and arsenal at your disposal. Superb game design all in all.

They abandoned hardcore franchises like Star Fox, F-Zero and Metroid and started to cater to the kiddy and casual audience by making five hundred Mario games and spinoffs, insultingly easy games overall, sloppy Smash Bros. game with RNG in it and streamlined handholding Zelda titles with forced motion controls. They are so full of shit these days. Welp, at least we're finally getting a brand new Star Fox title.

    • @JoshLeitzel
      @JoshLeitzel 9 лет назад +3

      To be fair, I think they're really trying to make up for their past mistakes. But it may already be too late for that. Hopefully not. They've obviously realized that they will never capture the same audience that bought over 100 million Wii's with their current console, because it just doesn't offer the same type of casual and simple gameplay mechanics. And casual gamers could care less about brand loyalty. I've always been a big Nintendo fan, so I can sometimes tend to be a bit soft on them. But this years E3 was just plain bad, no matter how I look at it. At least Fire Emblem looks good. Mario Maker and Star Fox do look interesting as well, but I don't own a Wii U yet so they don't apply to me at all. Splatoon also jut looks like a lot of fun to me, but that still isn't enough to convince me to buy the console, which is a shame. Maybe if we had gotten another 3D Metroid game on the Wii U that would have finally pushed me over edge and I'd buy one. But as it stands, I'd rather just twiddle my thumbs until the NX comes out.

    The feelings this game manages to convey are nothing short of amazing, especially if you consider it has nearly zero dialogue. I don't know about you guys, but every single time I play this I feel like it's actually me who's there and not Samus, probably because she never says anything and you're basically the only living human being exploring these alien planets. It's scary and exciting at the same time. I first played Prime 1 when I was 15, that was nearly nine years ago, and since then I've developed this habit of playing the trilogy at least once a year.

Before this, the only adventure games I played were Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2, DK64, and Luigi's Mansion the previous year. Gosh... I remember being a kid playing this game, my hands were SHAKING when I finally made it to Metroid Prime! It was such a long journey to get there and all I remember was my jaw dropped as soon as I entered his lair... Dang.... Such good memories!!

      I'm worried that we may never get another one, after other M tanked, Nintendo seems to have lost faith in the franchise.

      CornishCreamtea07 after what happened with the atrocity that is Other M, I'd rather see the prime series left right where it is. maybe a hunters redux would be cool.

    This game's music was absolutely perfect. Set the tone and atmosphere so well for a Metroid game. I remember getting this game the christmas of '02 and was scared shitless.

    This game was magnificent perfect from beginning to end, but the opening was so fucking masterful. Walking into that lonely space station with crippled Space Pirates and those eerie logs.
    That hideous Parasite Queen was the stuff of nightmares, and when you finally took it down there's no breathing you. It's a panicked dash to the exit. So many emotions in a single intro sequence

    @ 2:14 I would play it at least 10 mins before I pressed start. I couldn't stop listening. It just literally spoke and still speaks to my soul. How I listen to it is by actually picking out all the individual sounds, from the chanting, to the electronic sounds all that. I'm telling you it is the best music on a game start screen that had me addicted...

    Oh Jesus, this is definitely one of my best memories of my childhood, if not the best. I wish they would release a proper new Metroid Prime game, not like the new one for 3DS... it's called Metroid Prime: Federation Force, I think, and well, 3DS.. Just why? Anyway Metroid Prime has just such an amazing atmosphere to it and the music and gameplay is phenomenal. I just love everything about this game. I mean I love the whole franchise to death of course!

      Honestly as someone who's playing threw Metroid for the first time(I haven't played the others but I'm on Prime right now) I'm really enjoying the experience. Perhaps my favorite game of all time. The only real competition for me is with Dark Souls and the original Doom.
