- $27 MIKUNI carburetor on a Predator 212
Bought A $27 VM22 Mikuni carburetor and installed it on the Hemi Predator 212. Wanted to see if it would run well right out of the box. Did some small tuning adjustments to the carb.
Engine mods include Mod 2 cam, 22lb springs,ARC Billet .020 rod and flywheel, header pipe,3D Manual Clutch

Awesome sound ,need to build my son's
Thanks! Build it, I bet he will love it. That thing sounds like a beast for such a mild build.
Good job! Mine was made in Japan too 😄. I like the thumb screws that yours came with. Once dialed in my bike is gettin' it now. Keep em coming
I like your bike!
@@Black66 thanks! And likewise. I think it's done. For now. May stretch it in the future.
@@tashatorridYa, You have a nice bike. Perfect bike to cruise up on Route 66! I would like to see the stretch though. That would be a sweet video.
@@Black66 I was just getting ready to do the stretch and then life turned me upside-down. I'm thinking it's perfect for me for now with the new build so may just enjoy as is and when things calm down do it later. About to go run some errands with it. Wish me luck!
@@tashatorrid Ya, it is good the way it is.
Good luck !!
One thing interesting to me was that when I was testing my engine using a drill to start it, it would spin and spin and was difficult to start. I thought something was wrong. After I put the blower housing back on it's a one pull start.
Maybe your drill isn't fast enough? I'm using an 18-volt drill. Also, I use a ratchet at the end of the extension with the socket so it doesn't spin the starter nut off when the engine starts.
I did a step up re drill the primary pilot on the vm22 looks like factory they forgot to do it right. I drill mines close to the ventry. Then adjust the carb float using the 45dgree method. Is instant take off now. 1/8 trottle feels so snappy . I’m using 25 pilot and 105 main altitude 1000 125cc. 1 3/4 out on mixture screw
A $25.00 mikuni is just the thing I'm going to put on my 212 when it arrives but it is a vm22 26mm mikuni.
May I ask what website you use to refer to drillbit and jet size?
I have 5 of them if you tune them correctly they work really well
I love these carbs. It's fun tuning them.
How do you tune them to go 60 plus
@@ramos7735 once I get the carb tuned and engine running good . It’s mainly gearing
@@ramos7735 if your in AZ I can show you it’s something you can’t explain rather needs to be showed so you can see and hear the sounds when tuning
I have 5 of those carbs and if you tune them they work really well
Oh sweet ! I like them . They look like they are built really well.
@@Black66 I noticed your in AZ so am I I’m over by 60 and Ellsworth Rd.
@@clubhousewegotcontent7111 It's nice in AZ. I like the weather here.
Enjoying your content... was wondering if you can tell me the product type of your exhaust and muffler on the go Kart?
Jeff
Thanks! I actually made that pipe out of a generic pit bike pipe.
where did you find that ratcheting socket adaptor for your drill? One of these days i'm gonna be half a second late and break my wrist! I do have a proper Kart starter box for my brothers KT100 karts that i could use, but thats kinda bulky when starting low compression engines that don't need it.
Ah man, I liike the Yamaha KT100. We used to race those back in the '80s. My dad had a kart shop. Good times!! I got the ratchet adapter at snap-on tools.
what would be the appropriate jet sizes for 6,400ft in elevation? bigger or smaller sizes?
We’re did you get the $27 card from ? Thanks
Where is the link for the jet kit?
When would a pulse pump be needed for a kart or mini bike? Other then when there isn't gravity from the fuel tank feed?
I have a kartt like his and the engine is at a downwards angle so the fuel has to travel up to get to the carb
Get the hand held starter plz
Were did you get the adaptors from, are they from go power sports?
No, I didn't get them at go GoPowersports. I left the link for the manifold in the description.
We’re did you get the $27 mikuni?
What do you do when you have a stock predator motor 212 with a stage 1upgrade kit with 22lbs valve spring and .038 jet and it pops and shoots fire out of the header
You got a pipe?
Was this on a predtor 212 Hemi engine?
Do I need a bigger jet
Are these Mikuni style carburetors for heavily modified engines only? I have a trail master MB200 mini bike with a stage 1 kit and was wondering if a carb like this would benefit me.
Yes, if it is a VM22 Mikuni It should work really well on the MB200. We recently put a Mikuni on a stock 196cc Coleman bike and it runs awesome! We added a header pipe and installed a little bigger Jet in it. A 110 jet. Great carb. Easy to tune.
it will work
Where did you get the carb wind cup?
I put the link in the description.
If u hapen to over drill jet size u can braze the hole shut an redrill to last size f jet prices
Have you ever ran that motor on the mini bike?
Yes, check out the mini bike playlist . ruclips.net/video/OOm0Ysd2US4/видео.html
Im sorry to bother you again but I have a slight problem with my bike so it’s a Coleman bike CT 100 X and whenever I turn it on and I try to accelerate or go I kind of vibrates a lot like not normal vibes a lot should I be worried or is it like that I have to try to change the oil or tied up to the chain or something
It suppose to do that the catch can should help
Make sure you lube the bushing on the clutch once in a while. you might have to take off the chain guard. drop a little oil on the clutch bushing. It's where the clutch bolts to the shaft. Change the engine oil, lube the chain, make sure the tires have good air pressure.
How far do you have the Idle needle out or in and mixture needle ? Please help 🙏
1st disassemble the whole carb make sure you didn’t strip the mixture screw. Is so easy to strip. Clean it out good blow compress air in all passages. Take out the pilot and you should see light if not is clogged. If clogged it won’t start 1st kik. Or will die soon.
Look at the pilot and it must be clean . Re set it bearly finger tight. Set your float at 45degree to measure. Don’t press on the float pin to measure. Then based on altitude . Low do 3 or 4 on needle. If on 1000 to 2000 altitude use 2. Main jet start highest then trial error down stepping till you find sweet spot. This way you are not lean.
i just got a vm22 but mine dosnt say japan and it hAS A 90 IN IT FOR MY MOTOR I THINK I NEED A 120 LIKE U SAID IN THE OTHER VM22 VID
Ya, I think so. 90 is kinda small.
Score!
Ya, I like these carbs. They seem easy to tune.
When are you outfitting your fleet, Mr Buddy cat?
@@tashatorrid lol, Team Stock Carb is going hard.
@@fatbuddycat come on. All the cool kids are doing it.
Hey! I just bought that carb for my minibike. Is choke on the switch up or down?
Good carburetor! When the plunger it self is sticking up the choke is on. On this carb when you push down the choke handle the choke is on.
@@Black66 oh so you mean when its up its on. Down its off right? I think you had a typo. I was just trying to make sure because theres not alot of info on these carbs
@@Guido19 When the plunger itself is up the choke is on. Not the handle , the plunger itself. On this particular carburetor ,when the choke lever is pushed down it brings the plunger up. When the plunger is up the choke is on. Now here is the confusing part... LOL
On the style VM22 MIkuni's I run on the minibikes ,the choke handle is set up the opposite. When you pull the choke handle up ,it brings the plunger up. the choke is on. The bottom line is on any of these carbs. When the plunger it self is in the up position ,the choke is on . Not the handle but the plunger. .
@@Black66 ahhhh ok I gotcha thank you!
Also what jet did you drill out?
what carb would fit a predator 224?
Check out the 244 Playlist. I use a few different carbs on the 224 ruclips.net/video/dg5LzzZRvMo/видео.html
I think I saw you got a billet side cover, I got my 308cam port and polished 14cc head with 24mm mikuni running and a lot of oil is going to the valve cover and out the little vent. Will a billet side cover help if I vent my block?i also got a catch can
Oh sweet ! Nice combo!! Yes , it should help. If you dont want to spend the money on the billet side cover you can always run the valve cover I am running on the blue bike . It has an awesome oil control baffel in it.
This valve cover has a really good oil baffle. here is the link dedracing.com/collections/gx-clone-head/products/coming-soon-gx200-clone-billet-vale-cover_-svc
@@Black66 I got a billet side cover and catch can. Do I put the hose from the side cover to the valve cover and that vents pressure? And then valve cover to catch cam with a hose?
@@Exclusv You can do it that way, but the catch can itself should have a vent on the top or a small filter on the top to relieve pressure.
@@Exclusv If the billet valve cover you have doesn't have an oil baffle, that could be part of the problem too.
Since this looks identical to the Mikuni VM22-133, will genuine Mikuni parts fit or has anyone found the proper jets that will?
There are many sellers on ebay that sell the jet kits
@@Black66 Do you happen to have the link? I just got done buying some other clones and a bunch of jet kits and none worked for me on the Firehot VM22, interested in ordering this clone since it looks identical part wise to the Mikuni.

I gotta kind of built engine with pz 26mm carb wats best jet?
That is not a simple one size fits all question because every engine combination is different. Every carb is different. Along with elevation temperature etc. What could be right for my combo might not be right for yours. Because I tune for High elevation. I live at 3700 feet. I would start out with a 120 or 130 jet and tune the carb from there.

How did this carb work for you?
It's ok once it's tuned but I actually like the cheap Knock off Mikuni carbs for basic bolt-on-and-go kind of stuff.
@@Black66 where did you buy your velocity stacks from?
@@Black66 and what jet are you running on the cheap knock off mikuni I just ordered the cheap one
@@alexanderscarreviews442 It depends on the engine I'm running them on. But I usually start out with a 115 or a 120. Each engine is a little different

You think it actually gives any performance gain
Yes, the carbs that resemble the original MIKUNI seem to perforrm the best.
@@Black66 performed the best and what torque power throttle response?
@@initial_boyz Overall power. It adds top speed and quickness. I'll do a video with a direct comparison soon. Nothing wrong with the imitation carbs IMO. They work fine and are a good value for the price but if your talking real MIKUNI versus imitation, the real one will out do the imitation on a Predator. At least with the stuff I have had them on. With that being said the NIBBI and other PWK carbs seem on par with the real MIKUNI with performance.
Sorry to tell you this but that carb is a knock off. It has a lot of differences from the real thing
still works tho
