After a couple of dry days everything started to dry out, until this morning when rain hit again, and hard.
It didn't take long for the roads around Rosalie Village to flood again.
We still have no power!

It's very hard not to be emotional watching this. I must admit it's just breaking my heart. What a journey. You seem to be very level headed and strong, so don't buckle under the challenge. Things wont be the same again after this and we have to adjust....somehow. Watching your vids and most appreciative of this as it really tells us so much on ground level . Doing a great job ! DONT GIVE UP.

I lived and worked in Rosalie between 2010 and 2012… I have vivid memory of the devastation then. I lost everything at the time (my home and my workplaces were all destroyed by the floods) but I was amazed by the community spirit and resilience. It breaks my heart to see all those people going through the same thing again, just over a decade later.

My son lives in Brisbane, and he got stopped by a police officer because he performed an illegal U turn . He didn’t get fined , but there was an altercation . Tempers are getting lost . Peoples patience is being pushed to the limit . Take care and thanks for sharing .

I feel for everyone who's suffering with this bad weather. I grew up in Red Hill and my friends and I used to hang out around Red Hill, Paddington and Rosalie. My heart breaks every time I see that place go under with the flood.

Thanks for the walk about, I'm on a sloping block at Keperra & luckily the water just passes through before hitting the road out the front & taking a hard left & continuing down the road. My carport & driveway has been like a spillway at the dam for days now but at least the water has somewhere to go, best of luck in your section of the swamp.

The 1 in 100 year floods that happens every 10 years soon to be every 5. The Brisbane city councils answer will be swift and decisive, by raising our rates.

The power grid changes at a point. Eg when Kangaroo Point blacks out about 30 houses have power because those houses or buildings are on a different grid - in that case the hospital grid. That's why you don't have power. It is the location of your property on the grid
Yes. Us and about 400 others are still without power
And this is before the heavy rain started! The rain at the weekend was like being in a cyclone with no wind. Torrential doesn't do it justice. It was like someone turned a fire hose on our boat. You couldn't hear yourself shout.

My laundry and garrage are flooded again and I live on the side of a hill. But it did stop and allowed me to go out and pickup more stuff, this time at Cannon Hill.
Glad you could get out. We escaped to the shops and went to see a movie just to get away from it all for a bit

Yup.. war on us. They call them rain bombs now... cause they are bombing us with for engineering and making sure gutters and drains are blocked.. world wide it's happening exactly the same.. all by design.
Been watching the news everyday, seeing the devastation. It is so hard to watch without tearing up. How do you even recover from this, especially the ones who have experience this many years ago? All i can say is pls go to higher ground. Don't take the risk and be safe 😦😟

A week without power!!! We have been having storms here in New Zealand with flooding and high winds, but no power for a week must be really tough. 💞

4 weeks without power last time. They insisted that all of our ceilings had to be torn out to check for water before they would turn it back on. That only cost $11,500 plus $2300 for the electrician.

Wow sorry to see this happen again to you. I lived in Greenslopes BNE and my block of aprtments is the same as yours, the water just runs down the driveway and we have a pump in the garages too the same as yours..
We have same probs as you, if power get cut, or the pumps fail. And we got flooded in 2019..... Its a problematic design.. And the pump maintenance drive the bodycorp price sky high.... In our block we had to replace the pumps too as they were unreliable and the body corp money stayed super high due to that issue :(

With the electricity.. I know this sounds silly but you have checked the breakers in the power box right ?
Most likely the water submerged the pump and other stuff which blew out the HRC fuse (one on the pole outside your building) . And no, you can't replace the HRC. That's Energex's problem.
Watch those bare feet on the road. Bad things can be found in flood water.

Yeah I was surprised the cop was considering it. Our neighbour was moving his car back out. He put it back in the garage when we had two fine days.
Nature in the raw is seldom mild.
Even just walking in water like this is tricky, because it's easy to trip on stuff that you can't see because it's underwater.

Different weather systems, the last system was a solid mass with no breaks, so continuous rain for 3-4 days. This system is very broken hit and miss, with most showers only lasting 30 mins then a big break. Remember what does not kill you makes you stronger.

We’re in Paddington. Low risk areas are those away from the river.
You guys need a plan b in thr future for the pump system ie. A portable pump (fuel powered) to be ready for the power outages.
We hired a portable pump, mostly emptied the water and then it rained again

5:10 - the water is only running like that because there are still likely blockages in the drains from the rain earlier this week, and because any exposed earth as already saturated, so no further water can be absorbed.
If this much rain was coming down on any other day, it wouldn't have flooded everywhere like that.

this is climate change - this is what it looks like, the usual extreme weather events will be larger and more frequent, so the previously once in a decade events will happen several times in a decade and those once in a century events will be more like once in a decade - this is the best case scenario
there is more water in the sky becasue the climate is warming well beyond anything it was in any time during human existence, and warm air holds more moisture -the warmer it gets, the more water is going to be in the air

Yes more rain on Australia's east coast, more forest, more crops in marginal areas, more overall productivity inland. Rainforest areas expand, desert shrinks.
@@nampam3945 also rainforests are dying back and in more frequent extreme weather their ecosystems get decimated - usually they are climatic systems unto themselves and such things did not affect them but now they are exposed more to these things especially in places where mangroves are dying back , as they would help keep the saltwater out but now that is not happening.
more rain doesnt make for more trees, or crops - it makes the earth unsuitable for sustaining what is there - so you get mudslides, and trees toppling over more easily due to the soft and unstable earth, you also lose alot of the insect and animal biodiversity and combined with all the floodwater mixing with run-off and industrial waste, its a toxic sludge that life takes a while to recover from if at all.

@@nampam3945 well no its not just irregular rain patterns, it is as a i mentioned the die-back of the mangroves , that and deforestation, but also if there is more rain that is not normal for the fragile ecosystem of the rain-forest then yes it can ruin it

09:20 No, Tim. The "world" is emotionless. This is simply cause and effect. We are the cause by raising the level of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, which raises the global temperature, which results in these tremendous effects of inundation by rainfall. Better infrastructure won't necessarily be the cure. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Whilst I don't disagree with global warming. This rain is not a result of it.
We can easily look up rain history data and see that we aren't close to the records of rainfall for 24h period, 7d period, 1wk period or 1mo period.
Global warming will actually reduce rain and the warmer the air, the lower the air pressure and the more moisture can be held in the air before it reaches saturation and rains.

An interesting study into local drainage issues; capacity of inlets, diameter of drains, impact of leaf clutter etc and so on.
Our national standards insofar roadside drainage need work, to 'monsoon' capable:-)
National route motorway construction (M1/A1 dual carriageway lengths), should specify min one in a hundred event survivability minimums, so during floods, the thing stays open. Greater cost per km certainly, and kilometres of elevated roadway, where identified, should be Standard. ATM, some new lengths are one in twenty only.
In NSW at Lismore, the newly elected mayor, himself disrupted by flood, championed improved flood resistance for that town, quality higher levees etc. Take a recorded height, and construct to survive that plus 1.0m. He should get the Insurance Council on board to champion fed and state GovCo's to start that process nationally.
