Three things to know about Deadpool, Ashleigh.
    1) In the comic books, Deadpool repeatedly breaks the fourth wall. It's one of the character traits that set him apart from everyone else in the Marvel universe. He was super aware that he was in a comic book.
    2) In the comic book, he does have the healing ability, but it's not that fast. Deadpool's story is actually very tragic and sad. His cancer actually kills him over and over again, but his healing ability brings him back to life. He's not nihilistic because he always heals, he's nihilistic because he always dies and comes back.
    3) It was actually mentioned in the comic Cable and Deadpool #2, when asked what Deadpool looks like, he said a cross between Shar-Pei and Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds saw that and knew he had to be the one to play Deadpool on the big screen.

When Marvel Studios was making Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, they wrote the script around Ego the Living Planet, but only after the script was finished did they find out that the distribution rights to Ego were sold off to 20th Century Fox years earlier. They had no idea what to do because the script wouldn't work with any other character and they had no backup plan, but just as they were discussing this, they got a call from Fox asking for permission to make changes to Negasonic Teenage Warhead. His mood one day could be entirely different the next day because his brain has healed and re-healed over the day and night, and in the morning he’s literally a different person.
      .
Think of the Doctor from Doctor Who. When the Doctor regenerates, he maintains all of his memories and experiences…. But his entire being changes, which includes his emotions, his perception of reality, his thought process, and so on.
It’s why when the doctor changes in the presence of his companions, he often treats them entirely different. Because he’s entirely different. Their relationship is dead now; even though it’s technically still the Doctor.
That’s kind of how Deadpool works. The cancer in his brain takes over and destroys parts of his brain, then his healing factor destroys the cancer and fixes his brain, then the cancer comes back and destroys his brain, then his healing factor destroys the cancer and fixes his brain. Over and over and over again, all day, all night, every day, every night.

This movie has so many inside references that Ashleigh might not get, the biggest being that the same actor (Ryan Reynolds) played a very different Deadpool before AND played Green Lantern in a notorious mess of a superhero movie (the costume was an all-CGI emerald eyesore). Ryan played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he had his mouth closed up and all-different powers...but everyone thought he was perfect for Deadpool if only they'd done it right. ALL of this is referenced from the very beginning of this film.

You know, Green Lantern was a bad movie. But it DID make sense for his suit to be cgi if it was being made with his ring. In an alternate universe I think the idea of everything created with his ring looking "cgi in real life" to everyone in the movie world could have worked.

So just from the X-Men Colossus cross-over you can see they used Deadpool to check the waters for an eventual linkup of all the Marvel cartoons into one canonic universe.
Previously the studios holding the licenses for the respective characters were all separated and unwilling to cooperate. In Deadpool the hints of cooperative action were clear, but still offered the studios an exit strategy (because Deadpool the character is known as clinically insane) as Deadpool could simply have imagined/hallucinated everything in his insanity.

Having a basic knowledge of pop culture is definitely helpful to get the references that are thrown out in dialogue.
There was also a new movie of Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret that came out this year that was really good. The bulk of the book is about a girl getting her first period, which is why it's referenced during the bloody scene. 127 hours is based on a true event where a guy got stuck in between some boulders and cut his arm off to escape.

Of all the nods, winks and outright references to everything Marvel in this movie, one of the biggest was also the most subtle. It took me much longer than I'd care to admit that the final battle scene took place where a SHIELD helicarrier was being dismantled. Not sure which version of the carrier, due to it being deliberately changed just enough for Marvel to not sue for copyright, but it presence was the first connection between the MCU and X-Men shown on screen.

To me, Deadpool is one of the greatest comedies and superhero movies ever made. It was and is quite an achievement. Everyone swears by the sequel but i think the humor in the original Deadpool is far more timeless and universal. And unlike in Deadpool 2, i can totally get behind Deadpools motivations in this movie.

This is one of my favorite comic book movies ever. It was so well done. Ryan Reynolds nailed the character. It was true passion project for him, and it shows. It's just one of the most perfect comic book adaptations ever made. It, and its sequel, are in the top 5 most profitable R rated movies ever made. And, the 3rd one is coming out next year.

Some one gave him a Deadpool comic because the character it that was similar to Deadpool. In that comic someone asks Deadpool what he looks like under the mask and his response was "a mix of Ryan Reynolds and a radioactive shar-pei". Ryan was instaly a fan of Deadpool.

Ashleigh I remember taking my wife to watch this in the theater and she said as soon as it was over we need to get this on Blu-ray. Deadpool was a minor character when he first came out in the comic books but he gained such popularity that he got his own comic book series he actually teamed up with cable for a while. And he loves breaking the fourth wall that's one of the parts of Deadpool that makes him who he is. And by the way they're already trying to make part 3 they did make a 2.5 which you can skip if you need to. But I have not met any person who seen Deadpool yet give it a bad rating. And just think they wanted to make this a PG-13 movie and the fan said no that's why we got the R rating and we got the Deadpool the fans wanted I take that back needed. Deadpool is R-rated character and that's why I think keeps hurting Wolverine they push restrict him to a PG-13 if they let him be the R-rated character like he should be like Venom should be and like Deadpool is you would have some great movies.

He is effectively indestructible. In the comic books he's been reduced down to single cells and still grown back. You getting some pretty crazy storylines where Death, who is an actual entity, falls in love with Deadpool because he can't die. He's like the one thing Death can't have, which makes her want him more.
