I love how heroic and hopeful the DPS sections sound. It’s like the instant we can hurt Nezarec, something is telling us “you can do this! take him down now!”
Had a fun glitch the other day where we definitely got him to final stand right as the damage phase ended, but it didn't count, causing the final stand theme to play during the entire next setup phase. And it fucking ruled.
I've had this happen multiple times. His damage phase is one of the shittiest, buggiest things they've ever put into a raid. He just randomly chooses a time when he's going to actually respond to what you did and do the damage phase - sometimes immediately, sometimes after thirty seconds, and everywhere in between - and then it fucks up all the music scripting and everything else too. It's a testament to how shitty this boss is that it even breaks the *music* which is something Bungie generally never misses on.
@@Narfwak Damage phase actually starts fifteen(ish?) seconds after your last completed node -- you can track it by counting the pulsing roots that head into his monolith, which are a little bit longer than a second per pulse. EDIT: With all ads that AREN'T centurions dead (a clear field), the DPS timer quickly hastens to something more like 3 seconds. That being said his ACTUAL movement and activity during damage sucks major balls.

I remember before we even knew what Nezarec looked like, I listened to the OST version of this song and imagined just this...absolutely gigantic, writhing serpentine mass of terror and nightmares incarnate, and when DPS hit at 9:59 it would rise up into the air, coiling around itself as the Guardians would have to shoot at its weak points. Definitely not what we got, but I can never imagine anything else when I hear that part anymore.
@@AzimuthPrime a Disciple of the strongest being in existence was killed by the weakest Hive God. Then proceeded to come back with double the power and die even faster. His dialogue comes off as just being edgy without any of the class Rhulk had. But truth be told, my main gripes are with the higher decisions. Nezarec only has to do with Psions now because someone saw the erroneous helmet connection and made it real. Nezarec never had to do with Nightmares, and they made that a thing based on nothing, but Bungie couldn't even get the right type of nightmare down. Nezarec's dream powers have nothing to do with Nightmare energy. Oh and his Sin is straight up missing even though that's the thing that defined him for several years. A vile bastard with a curious goal to see Light shine anew when dusk falls. Now he's just a lapdog.
Oh man, no no no, i have listened to the original full track that even with the winds missing, I can still hear the entire piece in my head simply off of what the percussion are doing
The female voices during the dps phases almost give this feeling that it’s the traveler calling out because it’s supposedly some of our strongest enemies. Our darkest hours. Just seems out of place but in the good way. Like this small bastion of hope covered by black fog and war
i am so mad they went with the DPS phase that they did. when the track bungie released made it seem like DPS 3 will be the actual DPS theme. this track was ALMOST the best dps theme. so close to greatness. yet so far. just like lightfall in a way.
Reminds me of how they gutted Riven's theme back in the forsaken soundtrack. The phase 2 section of her theme is one of if not my absolute favorite part of destiny's entire soundtrack, and it never showing up in the official soundtrack is criminal.
While I don't *hate* Nez's lore, I...don't really care for it either? Like, I read it, and I'm just thinking "ok, cool, neat" and then toss it out of the way.
According to bungie, not caring is the worst thing they want from players. Apathy. They either want people hate talking it or love talking about destiny
After soloing this guy, yes this track goes unbelievably hard. Unfortunately in game it tends to bug out a lot and not play the correct parts when they should take place, mainly the final stand part. still a 10/10 tho
Maybe if the arena wasn't so clustered. If it was more open like maybe Kell's Scourge's arena from SotP, then yeah, but Nezarec's is too dense for it to work.
A lot of the lore just doesn't make sense. It's established he's a betrayer of the Witness (99% sure it's the Witness) Yet there are statues of him on the Witnesses ship and a tomb made specifically for him. It just doesn't make any sense for it to be there.

What I took away from the story was that SAVATHUN betrayed the witness by assassinating Nezarec during the collapse, and she hid the Veil on Neptune. The Witness kept Nezarec's remains on the Pyramid flagship, memorialized in a chrysalis. When Guardians came to Neomuna, they... Heard Nezarec in the cloud arc somehow? And then they used their desire and paracausality to effectively wish Nezarec back into existence just to kill him, because Guardians make their own fate and thought he was a good villain to face

You mean how the Traveler struck his body with the teraforming beam and unintentionally blessed him with the Light, manifesting him back into the physical world. The Neomuna thing was the Shadow Legion Psions trying to manifest him as an attack, which was the whole thing with the Terminal Overloads at launch. The big thing is them making the Darkness a mental attribute, so anyone thinking about him (particularly in terror, his main focus) gave him strength. It's why his ship on the moon makes Nightmares.
