I can see that the tutorial was made a few years ago but I'm so glad I discovered it. Thanks so much for your time and skill in producing such a very thorough production so that a novice like myself finished up with a useful splice. Again thanks from a COVID free Australian. Hopefully, your family is fit and well in these trying times.
This is by far the best double braid splicing vid I've ever seen, including those done by "the pros" (not saying you're not a pro!). Thanks! I've been splicing Spectra on parachutes for 35+ years, and sailing for longer than that, so I think it's high time I finally buckle down and learn this.
Tim, sorry I totally missed your comment, we were in the bahamas with limited internet. Glad you liked it and found it helpful. I have had to do this multiple times now and still use this as a reference.
@@thecaptainandgigi1219 Hey Cap'n, no worries at all, I just now saw your reply! Believe it or not, I just now got around to ordering a fid kit. I need new docklines, and the guy that used to do my splicing retired, so I'm *finally* gonna learn this once and for all! Figured I'd give this another watch (or three) while I wait for the fids ... ;~P
@The Captain and GiGi Got the fids yesterday, and my first attempt actually didn't come out too bad! 1/4" line with a small loop around the bail of a random snap I had lying around. Beginner's luck? I hope not! ;~P
@@thecaptainandgigi1219 after my 5rh try I was able to do it without following your video. So far I've done 8 splices, 5 were practice runs and 3 on my halyards, came out GREAT. THNX again for a great video instructions.

Ron, thank you for the kind words and glad that the video was useful. We are healthy and sailing so enjoying the world...
Maravilhoso vídeo.Estou aprendendo Splicing de outra forma.
Thanks for the video. I’ve done several of these, but picked up a couple new pointers from you. 👍
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was really detailed and so easy to follow!

Smooth competent demonstration. Thanks folks !!
That line is Double Braid, not Sta Set. When taking out the inner core. Fold the line at the removal point
Thanks now I have to practice this ! It looks so clean
Yep, thanks Captain. Great, simple to follow instructional video. I feel confident to have a go myself now. Thank you. Steve
I could not be arsed with all that faffing around. Does the guy who sells the rope not do that for you?
Thanks so much for this, going to splice my halyard tomorrow
Thank you, glad you found it useful.
Obviously you believe in doing it the right way. Both the splice and the video. Thanks.
Steve, thanks for the comment. Yes, it is better to do it once and correctly whenever you can....
You are splicing double braid, not Sta Set
First time for me, thank you I managed it after several playbacks. what fid set do you have? Harry, Wales UK
Harry, I use the Samson Fid set, seems to work pretty good for me.
cheers mate will shop around, keep um comming
Bring the core out about 15mm before you try to separate the outer to remove the inner on your second mark
Great video sir...
Thank you.

Good splice video but shackles in sheets to clews can result in stitches in face, 3 to 10 usually.
Can you share what fid set you are using? Great vid, thank you.
Scott, it is the Sampson Fid Kit
Looks so complicated so I wouldn't do it is better to buy it ready to use it
Not as bad as it seems, but it does take some practice.
Double braid it's easy. I just finish a single braid it's harder
Lots of steps 🙁
I just finish mine splice with a ring.
If you do a double figure 8 knot of your halyard you wound have to worry about your halyard comming undone.
I have seen these shackles fail.
On my loops I thread a price of heat shrink then the shackle. For some extra abrasion resistance.
Thats a good idea, thanks for sharing..
Good video
Thanks
